The vinaigrette was a little too strong. Carrots - The best carrots i've ever had. Crispy outside and soft inside. Great flavor. Gnochetti - Wow this Bolognese was super good Kansas City Strip Steak - Good, but VERY salty. The crispy garlic potatoes had a nice coating of crispy, but was also VERY salty. Been here several times during the last couple of years and have never left disappointed. The staff have always been excellent, In my most recent visit my table enjoyed: mussels, bread, lobster roll, pork, chicken, crab fried rice, cocktails and wine. The crab fried rice was almost inedible in its saltiness, and the mussel meat was smaller than I am used to but it had a delicious broth. Nothing else disappointed. read more

Sometimes pretentious can be fun. Not this place. I ordered a 'house chardonnay' and Matthiasson Chardonnay was served at wait for it $21 per glass. I have searched the menu online and cannot find prices for this anywhere. I was royaly scammed OH MY I was so embarrassed I picked up the entire tab. My friend and I split the $18.50 hamburger. Which was a MEH hamburger and count them 16 fries...Really Sorry, too much money for a MEH lunch and a MEH glass of wine. The food we had was delicious (if not a bit overpriced), however the rolls came out, then a few minutes later my son's Ranch Steak came out (literally sliced steak on some spinach), then a few minutes later (after that had been eaten) my husband's crab fried rice came out (this was not a shareable portion, this was a one person's dinner order).. and then we waited.. an hour and three mixed drinks later and finally asked for the check because we were tired of hearing the sweet server apologize for my King Salmon not coming out. This used to be our go to place for special occasions, but our latest visit was pretty disappointing. First, the scallops, a laughable portion for $30, literally 3 scallops the size of a nickel each? Next, the overpriced drinks, like $18 for a very small pour.. a $38 lobster roll? I could go on and on.. but after spending close to $400 for 3 of us (not big eaters either) I was disappointed to say the least. My colleague and I had lunch on the patio and shared the burrata with charred bread, halal cart chicken and the crab fried rice, together with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc from Bourdeaux. The burrata was amazing and the halal chicken was excellent. While the crab fried rice was quite good, it didn't hold up to the other entrees, which blew us away. We joked that next time, we will each get the burrata and two glasses of wine. I'm taking my husband there this weekend for a repeat performance. Well done! read more

To give The Kitchen a 5-star review is doing it a disservice. Our whole experience from the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left was exemplary in every way. We came in about 30 minutes prior to our reservation to enjoy a beverage at the bar and were greeted by Riskin. It became immediately clear that he was extremely knowledgeable and a master at his craft. When I couldn't find anything that I loved on the cocktail list, he offered up 2 of his own creations that he made based on my likes and dislikes. I was not disappointed. Once we were seated, thank god we were put in Jaysa's section. She was an absolute angel. She was not only extremely professional and attentive, which is a base line for great service, but she was also so friendly and engaging, which really brought our experience to the next level. Jaysa went above and beyond for our table and really made the night more than just a dinner. As it was our last night in Colorado, our group was out to celebrate and celebrate we did. We ordered dish after dish off the menu and each was better than the last. The food can only be described as a river dance for your taste buds - courtesy of Chef Aaron Boisvert. Each being complex and creative, beautifully plated, and quite honestly hands down the best meal everyone at our table had ever had. We were so obsessed we even requested one of the recipes from the chef, who was kind enough to come out and talk us through some tips and tricks to its preparation. All of the guests in our party have worked in the service industry and have never had an experience as seamless and satisfactory as the one we had at The Kitchen. We were blown away so much so that we might have also hugged everyone on the way out. We were in Boulder for a wedding last week and had made reservations to eat at the Kitchen American Bistro some time ago. We were all dressed up and ready for a night on the town! first off, had difficulty finding the place as it wasn't clearly marked. Finally found it and settled in for a mediocre at best, dinner. took more than a few minutes to get our drink order taken by a slightly surly server. after ordering multiple dishes of various items on the menu, food began to appear. had the roast chicken, ahi tuna and black spaghetti. while it wasn't necessarily bad, it wasn't great either. for the price point, the food AND service should have been stellar. we had to ASK for another round of drinks. WOW! the best part of the meal was the dessert. i caught an eye roll from our server,; what a major turn off! i wont be back that's for sure. We came here for happy hour and loved the people working, the ambiance was great but sadly our food fell short. We just decided to get some drinks and appetizers and sat at the bar. We were really excited to come here and my friend having lived here for a year had this place on his list for awhile. We ordered the hush puppies, fries and the ahi appetizer to start. The hush puppies were good but we wouldn't consider them hush puppies. Coming from the east cost living in a place where hush puppies are religion, these were similar but not right in texture. Maybe this was just our expectation. They were good still, but not what we expected. Almost more like a fritter and stuff with shrimp. The fries were delicious, so good that I didn't get a picture of them, but the ahi was so fishy that we actually couldn't eat it. My friend decided to pick around the dish and eat most of the apples, he complained of it being a very sweet dish. I don't disagree but I didn't mind that part, the fish quality was more my problem. We were both surprised about that with that dish and decided to not order meals and go somewhere else. It could've been an off day, or and item that doesn't have high turn over, but we just couldn't do it. I loved this place! I might be a bit partial towards this place, but it's totally valid. The angels face cocktail just blew my brains. Food wise I loved the gnocchi and the cruller, especially the lava black salt butter. We got to sample really amazing potato leek chilled soup. I hope it makes it's place on the menu. The best part was their take on strawberry shortcake. I will definitely try the sister locations of this restaurant. Good service and ambience for a great overall experience! Wonderful service from the moment we stepped foot into restaurant and even on the phone. Our waiter was great and explained our options . Owner also came by to warmly welcome us and congratulate my parents on their 50th wedding anniversary. The food was incredible, especially the lobster roll, gnocchi, steak. Drinks were excellent. Sooo much food we felt guilty at the end of our team event. 24 team members make for timing and drinks a bit difficult so there is an extra star. The charcuterie was a great spread of flavorful cheeses, olives, mustard, tapenade and toasted breads. Followed by a flavorless salad that was missing cheese and croutons (mostly left untouched). The main dishes were medium rare steak and quartered perfectly cooked chicken. Side dishes of mashed potatoes and carrots that came very late. At the end of the dinner our table alone had over three pounds of chicken and 4 steaks left untouched. We asked our helpful waitress if the abundant homeless in the area would be offended with a food gift and opted to leave the leftover food for staff. It would be a great idea for a local organization to create a food pickup program with the abundant free resource. read more

Friday night stop in with friends. Very chiq vibe yet comfortable. Fireplace lighting one side of the room with the large windows displaying the street below, at the time covered in a blanket of snow. We ate upstairs, and the place was hopping with dinner crowd customers even around 9pm. Staff was quite nice in getting us seated, and was attentive despite the bustle. Between the four of us, we sampled the tacos, the fried chicken, and the roasted carrots. We ordered a round of drinks and a bottle of Italian wine. Every was tasty. The tacos came on miniature tortillas and had a richly spicy flavor with a twangy purple cabbage. The buffalo sauce on the chicken also had a nice kick, but was tempered by a house made ranch. Every dish had a point-counterpoint in flavor that made them that much more easy to eat. read more

Where to start... How about with, this place is amazing! We came here for brunch on a Saturday and got there right when they opened so we didn't have a wait and got to sit down. The first thing you notice is the atmosphere. It's an old building with character and chandelier lights. Then you notice the pastries stacked behind the counter and in the back a wall of stacked bread loaves backed in house each day. They have a sign on the wall thanking all of the local farms they source the food from wench is so neat to see that level of detail. Now on to the good stuff, the food! Brunch was amazing. I got their tostadas and I know what you're thinking..."tostadas for breakfast, what madness is this? " but let me stop you there. This is their take on eggs Benedict. Crispy tortilla, shredded barbacoa beef, poached egg, pickled red onion and topped with a chipotle hollandaise sauce. Pow! Mind blown! It was fantastic! Eggs were perfectly cooked, every flavor was balanced and frankly between you and me I could have bathed in the sauce. My wife ordered the breakfast sandwich, which while compared to my meal seemed ordinary, was delivered with perfection. The house made flax seed sourdough bread was phenomenal! The egg on the sandwich was cooked perfectly so that it was mostly done but just enough runny to make to messy and fun. We will be beck to try more for sure! read more

A nice, higher-end restaurant on Pearl! We went right as it opened to be able to get a table and chose to sit outside on the small patio! While a fun people watching experience, it seemed slightly chaotic with all the passers by and wait staff having to come outside to serve us. Portions are slightly smaller which was to be expected. Had the bruschetta for an appetizer and it was just alright. Slightly bland and very small to share. We had the pan roasted salmon and pan roasted chicken as our entrees. (Be warned that the chicken takes a long time to cook so be ready to wait!) Both dishes were cooked well with flavorful sides. Just not out-of-this-world. The one highlight out of all of it was the ricotta spaetzle that came under the chicken. Perfectly chewy and very rich ricotta flavor. Would have asked for seconds if I could!! If I could do it all over again, I'd try to find a spot inside! Looked like a nice atmosphere. Maybe I'll be back! read more

The only vegetarian meal on the menu that I could eat left me so hungry that I went home right afterwards and had a meal. Surprising in Boulder, where there's lots of good vegetarian food. Also, the service was very difficult. All the other people at our table had finished their meals by the time our meal arrived. I don't know if that was the fault of the kitchen or of our server (Matt). The same thing happened again with our desserts, where our server didn't take our order until the others had been served dessert. At least the desert was very tasty. By the end of the meal our water wasn't being refilled and I just gave up. Also, the gin that I ordered was the stingiest pour I've received at a restaurant. Came here at the suggestion of a business associate for dinner. Nice location on Pearl St. - the retro warehouse look. They are doing the "farm to table" thing - fresh ingredients locally sourced. The wait staff was very friendly and we were seated quickly. Bar service was fast, although they served my martini in a daiquiri glass - I thought that was a little strange. The food is really good, but the portions are tiny. Appetizers too small to share and the entree (Tagliatelle) was great, but tiny - I expect to have a "meal" for $50 a plate, not a snack. read more

I have gone to the Kitchen for a couple of nice dinners in the last few years and found the food to lacking for the price. The ambiance is great but it has gone down hill. I went tonight and had such an awful experience with the hostess that I will not be returning. She was rude and was an extremely poor host. So dissatisfied and disappointed that I just left. I prefer to support restaurants that still believe in kindness and customer service. There are other restaurants with better food and service, don't be fooled by those that think they are too good. read more

We had lunch here on Monday, March 2, arriving at 12:10. This is one of my host's (a Boulder native) favorite restaurants. She loves the Pasta Bolognese; I had a bite and agree that it was outstanding. I had the Shawarma Steak Salad, which was cooked to my specificiations and was quite good. I was not pleased with either the service or the ambiance. We were seated at 12:10, ordered soon thereafter, and our entrees did not arrive until 12:50. The restaurant was at no time full while we were waiting, and we certainly didn't order complicated dishes. The music was annoying and exceedingly loud; I had a hard time hearing my host's conversation. We asked at least 3 times for the music to be turned down. At one point, I saw our server point out our table to someone (the manager?) who glared in my direction. The sound did not diminish. For that reason alone, I'll be avoiding the Boulder Kitchen, and its fellow establishments, in the future. Memo to restaurant managers: People go out to lunch to eat and talk. Never mind the conversation, it's hard to enjoy your food when the music is dominating the atmosphere. read more

Its my first time to boulder and this was my first restaurant I came too. I had an amazing experience thanks to the great service by all the staff, and will definitely be back. The food was great, I had the Savory Cruller, Tiradito, and Black Spaghetti. I discuss the food below, but even better were the drinks. This is my first yelp review, and I made it to especially thank Abagail, my bartender for the night. She was excellent at creating cocktails to capture the flavor profiles I was looking for. I generally like dryer/less sweet cocktails but still like to experiment with different flavors etc. Every new drink/combo I got was well balanced and had great flavor. I felt like i was part of the process to figure out new drinks, and the experience made my night! I came to the bar early in the night, but even when the dinner rush started to come in on a Friday night, she was able to balance the high influx of drinks from the bar/tables and also help me to figure out a new cocktail combination. But in hindsight, I definitely recommend coming early to the bar if you want to explore different cocktail types. Foodwise... The savory cruller is covered in parmesan and once you add the allium butter, its the perfect balance of savory with a touch of sweetness. If you like sour cream and onion chips, you'll love this dish. The Tiradito had very fresh and tender tuna with a perfectly ripe avocado in the best stage of ripeness, the dressing of yuzu and cilantro helps balance and brighten the dish. I was hesitant to order the black spaghetti, since i thought it was squid ink based, but i dont think it is. The njuda, fennel and citrus make for a great combination. Its the type of dish when you finish it, you want another plate since the flavor is so good. read more

This used to be one of our go-to spots in Boulder for a higher end experience. Unfortunately our past two visits have been disappointing, this time mostly service-wise. Today we came for bruch at 1:30. We chose to sit at the relatively open front bar as the dining room was pretty busy. The bartender was friendly and provided menus and water after seating, but then disappeared for well over 10 minutes. We almost left or alternatively asked to be relocated to the dining room. We should have... I ordered a latte and crab-cake benedict, my wife ordered a mimosa and the Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich. Also tried the side bakers biscuit. The (very) good: Bakery biscuits/toppings, drinks. My poached eggs and hollandaise were great as were my country potatoes and my wife's fries. Biscuits were supposed to come out in advance, but everything showed up at once. No biggee. The "meh": Crab cakes had good flavor but consistency was "soupy" (not sure how else to describe). Southern fried chicken sandwich was way over fried, to the point that the breading/coating crumbled off. Chicken was very dry - guessing it was left in the fryer too long. Reverse of our last visit where my wife's salmon was raw - (not rare, raw). The ugly: Our server/bartender spent most of her time with her customer friends at the far end of the bar. Our food was delivered by the kitchen staff. Even if I wanted to comment on any concerns, I couldn't as we were completely neglected Based on what we could hear from their discussions and language, I almost appreciated it. When we finished, after dropping our check off she disappeared again. 10 more minutes before we asked another server to close our check. Guessing she was on break? I get that it is New Year's day and the top staff likely got the morning or day off, but this service was severely lacking in both attentiveness and professionalism. I guess for a restaurant of this quality we simply expect more. Again, bummed as this used to be a special spot for us. read more

We picked the place based on research we did of Boulder. It seem that everyone had great things to say about this place and it definitely did not disappoint! The chicken was juicy and soft on the inside and the skin was super crispy. It was season to perfection. The fried in bone marrow butter where to die for, I could have lick that plate.
