The walls were dirty. The nightstands and dressers in one of the rooms were covered in dust. Have a seat outside weather permitting. Your paying for the view of the goat planes landing and taking off... plus it's the iconic and historical start of the last great race, the Iditarod. The biggest downer was taking A walk on the path outside outside the property. There was a nice shady spot in the corner where we would have set down and viewed the lake but it was covered with trash from the two homeless people sleeping in the bushes behind the bench. read more

Have you ever been cat fished? Well that's what I felt this hotel did to me...the photos are very deceiving. Sure it's close to the airport, has free parking, a free airport shuttle, and a freezer room in case you need to freeze your fish you caught on your trip, but other than that this hotel is just okay. I booked it for my last night in Alaska thinking I was treating myself to an upscale hotel since that's how their website makes it look, however, it's really nothing special. Maybe I would feel slightly different if I checked in sooner and had time to walk around the lake it's on or check out some of the property it's on but then again I'm still not convinced it's worth the price. The outside of the building is a little rough looking and the hallways inside were pretty run down and also dirty. It was clear they were short staffed since there was trash in the hallways and the carpets looked like they needed a cleaning or at least a vacuum job. The room had a mini fridge, tv, air conditioner, and was pretty large with two queen beds. The bathroom area was a little tiny and the tub could've used a cleaning since it was pretty gross. I didn't feel comfortable walking around this hotel in my socks or bare feet since the carpet was old and looked like it needed to be vacuumed in the room as well. The biggest issue I had was that the top of my bed had some dirt on it and there were two long dark hairs on it which were clearly not mine. I could've said something but with it already being super late when I got to my room and the lobby being honestly a 5 minute walk away from my room I just felt it wasn't worth it. I took that top sheet that was on top of the comforter off and just left it on the floor. However, after laying in bed I pulled the covers on me and had another hair right in front of my face that was also not mine! Needless to say for the rest of the night it was difficult to fall asleep because I was thinking how my bed may be dirty. In the morning I planned on taking the shuttle to the airport because when I called two weeks prior after booking my reservation they told me the shuttle ran every 5-10 minutes...well that wasn't the case now "due to covid" the shuttle only was running every half hour. Luckily I made it to the airport but had to sacrifice some of my packing and getting ready in order to make the shuttle time. I wouldn't stay here again if I came to anchorage, I would definitely recommend the Four Points Sheraton on 325 w Eighth St, since they have things within walking distance and the room I stayed in there was immaculate, updated, super clean, and just exceeded my expectations. I gave this hotel a star for free parking, a star for a free airport shuttle, and a half star for letting me check in later than the average guest and another half star for having a freezer to hold the fish I caught until I left the next morning. read more

My wife booked 2 nights there via booking.com because they had better reviews there. Worst mistake! We checked in late night hoping to kick off our vacation but soon as we walked in the room smelled like feet/mildew. Dust and spider webs all over. We tried to have them change our room but were told they are all booked. My wife kept coughing all night because of the dust on headboards. We tried canceling the second night but the front desk told us we need to contact booking.com. Called booking.com to cancel but the rep there told us she can not help us. I've stayed at the Marriott in downtown anchorage as well and I personally think all hotels in this city are trash. Only giving it 2 stars because the lake is cool and the airport is super close with free shuttle service. The negative is that this place is not super clean. The room was dusty and not much air flow. The carpets in the hallways are super worn out. Def not worth the $360 a night. The aesthetics of the reception area is cool with the dead animals. I wouldn't stay here again. I'd rather just stay at Airbnb and come take pictures with the animals and check out the planes landing. read more

We stayed here for several nights on the beginning leg of our Alaskan trip. I agree with the previous comments that the hotel is a bit dated, but we found our room to be clean and very comfortable. I had requested to be on a top floor facing the water and the first night we arrived, we got a bottom floor with a small view of the water. The lady up front was so sweet and told me to check back the next day since we were staying for four nights. We were able to switch rooms which changed everything! Lovely view and we throughly enjoyed watching the plains. The shuttle is a great service but we found the schedule inconsistent ended up using Uber or Lyft most of the time to get around. The restaurant is very good. We had a great breakfast there our first day. All of the hotels we stayed in have adopted this no clean policy during stays. I would have been ok with that but we were not informed we had to ask for fresh towels and coffee from the front desk. Had my niece and her husbands wedding reception here and was not impressed with the staff! Lakefront catered the food and beverages and didn't even get what was paid for. Chicken was dry and beef was tough. Vegetables that was served with meal tasted like frozen vegetables. I didn't even eat my whole plate. Waitstaff were making snarky remarks saying stuff like "they couldn't wait to get the f*** off. Bartender was over pooring to where the drink was unbearable to drink. Although the view is great.. the experience was horrible!! I'm a waiter and I would neverrrr treat guest like lakefront staff did. This hotel is only getting this rating because of the outstanding service from the following staff: bartender Mickey, Food &Bev staff Brittny and Chi, & Teresa. We attended a wedding event on Sunday and although the decor that the family brought was beautiful, the appetizers wasn't out until 330 way after the time scheduled, wait staff working the event was unprofessional and walking around placing silverware on tables saying "I can't wait to fucking get off" which other guest attending this function heard him utter some other things. Does the staff not like working at this establishment? I mean the price they charge is ridiculous. The plated food was either bloody , tough or dry and some baked potatoes were hard. Bathroom sink was backed up, social area was dirty and the purpose of social cocktail hour is to have some drinks but the bar wasn't open until 4. You could tell there was no communication between the event manager & staff working the event. This was the worst experience ever! I'll never host an event there! read more

For $300 per night, one would expect a 5 star hotel. But sad to say, I was disappointed. Considering that the location & the views from the hotel are stunning, the room we got had a view of the back of a brown building. The rooms were large for 4 people but the cost to value is not worth the $300 & more towards the $200 range. If "free breakfast" was available, then maybe would reconsider again. read more

If you've ended up here, odds are: You need to be close to the airport for something boring like your job. OR Alaska Airlines lost your luggage and gave you a free-stay ticket. Welcome, weary road warrior. This place is A-OK. It's nothing special. I was in the 2nd camp. I'm not sure how pricey* this place is. I'm guessing it's significantly cheaper than the downtown hotels. First thing you notice: BOOM, bigass polar bear in the lobby! Time to selfi/snapchat/FB/Tindr/Yelp/Vine with the polar bear! There's also a muskox in the lobby. The lobby is pretty impressive, it feels historic, it feels Alaska. Not cheesy-touristy Alaska either. Real Alaska, real old-school Alaska. That's also how I'd describe the room I was in. Totally fine, but a little busted. A little rusted. A bit rough-around the edges. Like I said, totally fine. I'm not at all a hotel snob, and my stay was free. The layout of this hotel is absolutely insane. Long, long, long corridors to get to some rooms. You'll feel like you're playing Wolfenstein 3D again. Or maybe you'll feel like you're cruisin' 'round in your big-wheel ala "The Shining". Point is, corridors are long. Stick with it, you'll get there eventually. I suppose some rooms may have great views of planes landing on the water, mine just had a view of the parking lot. Oh, they have a free shuttle to the airport, which will save you some cabbie money. I recommend you convert this to beer money. *Why are hotel prices so flakey anyway? It's 2014 and the only things we still can't get straight-up quotes on are: cars, mattresses, and hotels. Hey Millennium.. the 1980's called.. they want all their brass toned fixtures back! Seriously, this is a nice property, but it needs a refresh. The rooms were larger than most hotels that I have stayed (not because the very comfy beds are doubles, not queens) with a nice entry area, in room fridge and close proximity to the airport, The zig-zag pattern that you have to walk to get to them can make ya nauseated so you might want to take a motion sickness pill before making the walk. The lobby is.. well, interesting with all the dead animals on display... (think Elmer Fudd going amuck with his gun). The Flying Machine restaurant is pricy, but the view is probably worth the added expense. I snagged this property thru an online "name your own price" company, so the price paid was significantly less than the rack rate. Parking was free, internet was not. If I were to get this property again, it wouldnt be the worst thing in the world to happen to me... unless the next room has a more Dynasty/Falcon Crest look... yeah, now Im scared! read more

Very disappointed! Even after a huge renovation this place is still last on my list. The new beds were very firm and kept me awake and I had back pain for two days after. The pet policy is appalling! I have stayed in many hotels with my dogs, but this place was ridiculous. $30 Per pet, per day! Not a deposit like most play, but a fee. I paid $120. for my dogs to sleep on the floor for two nights, as they don't even supply beds for them at this crazy cost. So this is my 3rd time staying at the Lakefront so I wanted to leave newer review. 1) Cleanliness - so the first time I stayed here was during COVID and it was immaculate. However, this recent stay (2 years later) it is definite need of a deep clean. The carpets are dirty, there were cig and blunt ends just chillin on the rugs in the hallways. I was staying on the first floor and it definitely had more of a "pay by the hour" feel to it now. I assume this is all the dog friendly rooms so maybe it's just shabby bc of that - idk. However the lobby was clean and inviting. And my second room (scroll down for more info on that) was obviously better kept than my first one and was on the 4th floor. So definitely down from COVID but for a single night or two nights it will be fine. Would not recommend for a lengthier stay. If I came back I'd probably ask for a room not on the first floor. 2) Safety - single female traveling alone with her dog. I want to preface I live alone and am independent and rarely scared in new places. I arrived at 1am and was put in a room at the very end of the first floor. That's fine - but it was right next to the exit into the parking lot. Again- objectively fine. But, the hotel was "busy" for 1am and people kept coming and going from the exit. Every time, my little dog thought we were about to be murdered. At one point, an unknown male sat outside my hotel room and was smoking(?) and drinking a beer. He just sat there for a bit and seemed out of it. Let's just say my dog was not happy and I was nervous as hell at this stranger just chilling outside my door. Which - I should also say the locks leave something to be desired. I was glad I have one of those hotel locks you can buy off the internet. When I moved to the 4th floor - it felt objectively safer and there were less people coming and going. That being said they do have onsite 24 hour security and require key card access to the hotel entrances. 3) Shuttle - 24 hour shuttle to the airport; only about a 5 minute ride. Amazing if you have an early flight or late arrival. I called the desk and within 10 minutes I was on the shuttle headed to the hotel. 4) Convenience - like I said very close to the airport so everything it lacks it does make up for in convenience. It's on Spenard so easy access to all of Anchorage 5) Alaska Esthetic - the Lobby is filled with taxidermy Alaska animals (bears, sheep, fish, etc) so it gives a lovely Alaska feel. In the summer it's on the lake where float planes land and its beautiful. Very dated but has a nice feel to it. 6) Food - never eaten the food so I can't comment. But they have for-purchase wine/beer to be waiting in your room upon arrival which is lovely. They have two restaurants on site with a large menu option. One is a dinner place and the other is breakfast only. No room-service, but coffee in each room. 7) Other Amenities - fridge in each room; safe in each room; WiFi for purchase and WiFi for free in lobby 8) Pet Friendly - $25 pet fee per night and a $50 refundable incidentals charge. The hotel website references a $250 pet cleaning fee but when I called they said that wasn't correct. Wondering if it's just if your pet gets out of control. I wasn't charged any fee like that. 9) Other - I ended up having to change rooms this trip. I got in at 1am and it was about 5 degrees outside. I got into my room and it was FREEZING. The thermostat said 56 degrees F. I blasted the heat and after 20 minutes realized - heat is not working. I thought I could tough it out and I just could not, so I went to the night manager who came and checked it out and agreed it wasn't working. He asked if I wanted a new room and I said yes, I'm from Arizona and am COLD. He obliged and got me a new room with working heat (and it was a nicer/cleaner room). He was very helpful and accommodating. 10) Cost - I paid $119/night. Decent price for what I got. However, I think $99/night is probably a more accurate reflection of what you get. You're definitely paying for the convenience of the airport and 24 hour shuttle service. They obviously cater to the incoming tourists. Overall - this hotel is a good place for a night or two if you need a good location and airport service. The staff has always been friendly and helpful so absolutely no complaints there. And the fact it's pet friendly is super great. That being said - if you're looking for a longer stay I would probably go elsewhere. read more

9/19/14- I stayed here for the night. I noticed the hallway floors were lumpy?? How crazy is that...the room, furniture, etc are all old. This place is run-down, that's an honest statement. I will remind out-of-towners that this part of town is know for "hourly" girlfriends if you catch my drift. I literally watched an episode of Cops where they were arresting "John's" and prostitutes from this hotel. To each their own. I will say the staff at the checkin counter were polite. read more

I have stayed at the Lakefront twice in the past two years for one night each stay during a layover between a flight from Minneapolis to Anchorage and a next day charter flight to Iliamnia for fishing. The Lakefront is located on Lake Hood with great views of float plane take offs and landings. It is very close to the airport and they have an excellent free shuttle. The lobby is decorated with big game mounts if you are into that. The two restaurants are not bad. On the down side the rooms are pretty basic for the very high cost during tourist season but I suppose the demand for rooms in the off season isn't large so they have to make their expenses when they can. The staff appears to be mostly seasonal and aren't too well trained although they are generally friendly. My last stay I arrived before check in time as did a number of other guests. They did not have a system for taking our names and letting us know when our rooms were available. Consequently we had to re-check with the front desk many times before being assigned a room. All in all an ok place for a layover. read more

I stayed at the Millennium Alaskan Hotel Anchorage for four nights during the 2012 Iditarod, where I served as a volunteer. I choose the hotel because it is the official Iditarod race headquarters and, hence, the location of many volunteer meetings and event activities. Before and during the race, the place is a bit of a madhouse; on the other hand, you feel as if you are in the heart of the action. I saw Lance Mackey a few times wandering around the hotel and parking lot. As well, I talked with Jeff King as he signed books at the Winter Conference for Educators. You can view mushers' vehicles in the parking lot and easily observe and interact with handlers as they tend to the canine athletes before the race. Race operations such as logistics and communications were conducted in hotel rooms just down the hall from mine. After booking my stay, I read the online reviews of prior guests. This led to some concern as most reviewers gave fair to poor ratings. Overall, the hotel was fine, but definitely not what you'd expect in terms of the four-star rating I saw on some Web sites. In short, it's the kind of place where you do *not* want to look too closely at things. Service was consistently inconsistent. When I arrived at Ted Stevens International Airport on 1 March, for instance, I used the courtesy hotel phone to request the complimentary Millennium airport shuttle. The person who took the call assured me that the van was on its way. It took around twenty-five minutes to arrive. When he pulled up, the shuttle driver was surprised to see guests waiting on him and explained that he had not been informed. When I got to the hotel, I was in a bit of a rush because I had only a few minutes to check in before a scheduled volunteer meeting. As it happened, the lobby was incredibly crowded, loud and chaotic as a bunch of local school children had just arrived to perform a song for the Iditarod guests and spend a bit of time after their (sweet) performance lingering in the reception area enjoying cookies and a warm beverage before caravanning back to school. There was only one staff person in the reception area during this time, despite the fact that there was a growing line. The front-desk staff seemed overwhelmed and frazzled. Though not rude, the front-desk staff was far from solicitous and seemed a bit put upon, at best. Upon getting to the room, I actually checked the bed for bed bugs, which I have NEVER done before. (One online guest review mentioned bed bugs, prompting this behavior.) The bed passed this test and I did not have any negative experiences on that front. As many prior reviews note, the hotel furnishings and decor are worn and dated. The room was reasonable clean, though. The heat worked well, which is of primary importance in Anchorage in March. My one notable experience occurred on 3 March: That morning, I left the hotel at around 7 a.m. Upon my return at approximately 5:30 p.m., exhausted from a long and fun day of outdoor activities, the room had yet to be cleaned and there was no housekeeping cart in sight in the hallway suggesting that it was on someone's short list. I was looking forward to a hot shower and quiet night in the room and was irritated to have to request and wait on housekeeping. Since my hotel room phone was not functioning for the duration of the stay and my cell phone did not have service in Alaska period, I had to go back downstairs to talk with the front-desk staff. I was unapologetically told that the hotel was very busy. A representative from housekeeping responded to the calls from the front desk promptly and cleaned the room quickly. Thereafter, I made a point of placing the "service-requested" sign in the door when I left for the day and did not have any more problems. Before arriving in Anchorage, I called the hotel to ask about transportation downtown. The person who answered noted that the hotel shuttle was the best option for this. What was not clear: The hotel charges $25, not including gratuity, for the trip downtown. You can easily catch the People Mover bus for $1.75 (for adults). It stops across the street and there is a schedule at the well-marked bus stop(s). As for eating options, the hotel operates two restaurants, the Fancy Moose Lounge and the Flying Machine Restaurant. I ate twice at the Fancy Moose Lounge because I was too tired and hungry to go elsewhere. The more economical of the two restaurants, the Lounge has a casual, rustic atmosphere and lovely Lake views. Servers were genial. Food took a while to be delivered, was mediocre and pricey. Not having a vehicle, I often hoofed it to nothing-fancy nearby establishments on Spenard Road, including Subway, McDonald's, Gwennie's Old Alaska Restaurant and Village Inn Pancake House. These are all an easy - if potentially cold and slippery - walk from the hotel. Watch out for random moose nibbling on greenery along the way! read more

The hotel itself is decent, and my room was comfortable, clean, and pleasant overall. However, the service was very "local" as a friend of mind hysterically described it, and for the price we were paying given it was peak fishing season, I expected a bit more. So, a few small to minor infractions: 1. I checked in at 3:15 (check in time is 3:00), and the front desk person awkwardly stuttered out that no rooms were ready yet, and just tapered off. No timeframe of when one might be ready or offer to wait at the bar and have a complimentary drink and a call when a room was ready. 2. I asked for extra boxes of Kleenex (get your mind out of the gutter--I was extra congested!) the first night at the front desk, and it never came. Had to ask again the next night. 3. I ordered room service one morning (having to leave a message at the restaurant), just for myself, waited over an hour, and it never came. I had to leave for the airport so called back to cancel (again, leaving a message). 4. There is a small vanity facing the door that is all you have for toiletries. I would hate to be staying with additional people because there just wouldn't be enough room, and there is the accompanying risk that someone could open the door while you're standing there in the buff! 5. The front desk told me the airport shuttle left at every hour and half hour. I got there a few minutes before 10:00 and nada. Finally, the guy rolls around at 10:20, and spirits me away. I guess their policy is a bit lax, and they're willing to take anyone who's waiting there without waiting for the top of- or half past the hour. Not a good practice. read more

Would not recommend this hotel!! We did not get what we paid for. We paid for a lake view. We got a roof/parking lot view right next to the road, which was very noisy. We arrived about 11pm. I attempted to call the front desk regarding the location of the room and after 3 attempts, walked back to the front desk. After speaking with Ron, he told me to speak with the front desk at 9 am the next morning and they would be able to accommodate our move as well as the party with us. I arrived back at the front desk at 8:15 am and spoke with a lady at the front desk. I explained the situation and the conversation I had with Ron the night before. I explained that we were told we would be accommodated. Our request was refused and we were told that we would not be moved. We were told that they could not move anyone. A few hours later, I overheard the lady telling Ron that they had infact moved another party at 7am that very morning. When Ron had asked her if our party had inquired about a room move prior to his arrival that morning, she LIED AND TOLD HIM NO WE HAD NOT. I immediately spoke with Ron at that time after hearing her lie and told him what she had told us that morning. She did not realize that we had overheard her conversation. Unaccomadating and you will not get what you pay for! We are, unfortunately here for 2 more nights. We will not return and will not recommend this hotel. I dont appreciate being lied to or being charged for somthing I did not receive. Very poor business. read more

This place was great! We arrived for a conference and stayed 6 nights. The staff was great, so friendly. The rooms were clean and the beds were so comfortable. The restaurants are simple but just what you need in the morning and great places to relax when you're too tired to site see. The views on the lake are great. Not many lake view rooms but you can just walk outside and enjoy. The gyms are very small and the treadmill room ran hot while the other room was freezing. The only bad thing was that my room reeked of cigarettes when I got back on the 2nd day. Don't know if it was coming through a vent or what but phew! Told the front desk and the next day housekeeping must have done something because the room was good. I would definitely stay here again. read more

A few nights ago at around 2am someone with a key to my room opened the door and tried to get in. Luckily, the door jammer was on which prevented entry but the person continued to slam the door into the jammer attempting to break through. My door had been deadbolted as well so the fact that they gained entry is quite suspicious. I reported this to the hotel manager and they gave us a refund but I still am very shaken up. To make matters worse, there were no cameras at that part of the hotel and the staff isn't able to give me any information on who did this. Another worker told me that staff members have access to the master keys for lock outs. I can't say who did this but I think the staff should be investigated immediately. Thought I was throwing down on a nice place. The room was ok but residual smoker smell, and I have a service dog but was put in a regular dog room. Then I walked a great distance with my bags and service dog to the room and the door key didn't work, they said the batteries in the door are likely dead. So I was given another room, had to walk back and forth twice. The outside at the nearest door had a smokers area with tons of trash and cigarette butts everywhere on the ground. Seems they don't maintain the grounds or door lock batteries very well. Can't imagine if the batteries died after I got all my stuff in there too. read more

Worst hotel I've stayed at. Don't get a room facing the road, otherwise you'll hear every car passing by and people talking through the AC unit hanging out the window... Also had to call the front desk twice to complain about someone playing their music excessively loud past midnight in their room and music never stopped. read more

Don't book here if you actually want a room. We booked and paid for our rooms month in advance. When we got to the hotel (after taking a cab because the shuttle that was always 3 mins away never showed) they said we didn't have a room (even though she confirmed our reservation on her computer) and it was first come first serve. We finally relented seeing there was nothing we could do and were leaving to go to another hotel when another woman came in from the airport and got a room without a reservation. RESTAURANT AWESOME.. ROOMS NOT SO MUCH Almost all of the rooms face a road. The Air conditioning is almost nonexistent, but it is usually nice at night so you can have the window open. The problem is the road noise, plus the fact that in the summer, it doesn't get dark at night! By far though is the casual restaurant out back on the deck. It overlooks the lake, and you will see seaplanes zooming right over head. read more

Not worth the money. Here is my list of why; 1. The layout of the hotel is ridiculous. It is a confusing maze that never seems to end. Unless your in a lower number room, you will be walking a long way. 2. The hallways have an unpleasant odor. 3. The pillows are the most uncomfortable pillows I've ever slept on, and the beds are pretty poor as well. 4. I was in the far corner of the hotel and did not pick up the free wi-fi. The only plus to this hotel that the staff was friendly and helpful, otherwise I would have given them one star. read more

The room itself was fine and comfortable. However, you have to request a microwave for the room. There is a window unit for the air conditioning. The problem is when you close the curtains, it covers the window unit. Therefore, blocking the air. During the summer solstice, it doesn't get dark at all so it's frustrating to have to choose between a cool room or darkness to sleep. Thank God I have an eye mask. read more

Five stars because every time I come my room is clean, never had a problem with sheets being dirty & the beds are comfortable. Breakfast can be pricey depending on what you get but it's actually worth it. Rooms are quite spacious. Food is around walking distance. It may take forever and a day to get to your room though depending on what room do you have because the hallways are super long. read more

Very disappointing with how much this hotel charges a night you'd think it'd be a 5 star hotel but their lobby was nice with a cozy little fireplace and several animals on the walls and showcases but overall honestly that's about all it has going to them. If you plan on arriving early morning be assure you'll have to wait until 3 p.m. to check in and get a room. Room: We had the deluxe room with 2 queen size beds. Upon entering the room it had a smell of smelly feet. My husband's side of the bed had a urine stain on the mattress and the scent penetrates through sheets. Let front desk know but didn't seem that they fixed it because it still smelled. He ended up sleeping closer to my side where it was clean. The mini refrigerator doesn't work so don't plan on buying beverages to keep cold in the refrigerator. A/C works but just doesn't blow out cool or cold air it's more of a warm breeze coming out in a room where it's already warm. Window opens which we attempted to open but to see that it's broken so unable to open window for some natural air to come in. Bathroom tub floor felt uneven and just poorly constructed. By the window pane had several dead insects that no one seem to clean. Housekeeping we tipped each morning before we went about our day just to come back to the hotel to see they hadn't vacuum nor dust the tables. Laundry room only has 2 washers and 2 dryers with a detergent dispenser but no coin machine to get coins for your laundry. You would have to go to the front desk to request for some quarters. Overall, we had a great trip just very disappointing to pay a lot and knowing we could've stayed at the Sheraton or Hilton for what we paid here. We plan on coming back next summer to Alaska but we won't be staying here again. We've stayed at a lot of hotels that were worth the money sadly The Lakefront isn't worth it and it'd be better to stay at a hotel and know it was worth every penny and would return to that hotel than to pay big bucks but to get a 1 star experiance. read more

Great food. The halibut was excellent. We sat on the deck and watched the float planes land on the lake. Great place !!
