The lantern is one of my favorite places to hang out with friends! It's got a nice patio area and they've also recently renovated the inside. The waitresses are always super on top of things, but also relaxed and super chill. Their rosemary fries are my favorite thing on the menu. They also have great fried pickles. On Thursday nights they seem a bit under-staffed due to trivia night. My recommendation would be to eat before you go if it's a Thursday. Otherwise it will take upwards of 45 minutes to get your food. Also trivia starts at 8 and it's hard to get a seat inside after 8 on Thursdays. I still love trivia night. 10/10 would recommend. read more

We stopped going to the Lantern Tavern for several reasons. First off I enjoy a good Guinness beer and on several of our last visits the Guinness tasted off, old and bitter. I complained about it and though the bartender agreed with me, nothing was done about it. Their food was ok, but you didn't get very much and it was expensive. My wife and I would have a couple of beers each, and a couple of appetizers and somehow the ticket would be $60. Adding a good tip for good service and we are at $70 for a very light meal. We always tried to support this bar because we loved that they bucked the trend and made it non-smoking but it is just too expensive. We won't be going back. read more

Cool atmosphere, very poor service. We waited over 30 minutes before we were even greeted. It wasn't that busy compared to some of the pictures I saw on yelp. The cocktails were good, I had a Moscow Mule. The kitchen closes at 10pm but still offer chips and salsa to buy. Our waitress did check on us and we ordered a second drink, after about 20 mins she came back with our check. We reminded her we had ordered more drinks, she apologized and said she's too busy to continue to help us. So, we moved to the bar and the bartender was awesome and very tentative, made our drinks and checked in. Some of our friends met up with us and we moved to a table. Again, about 30 mins passed, no one came to serve is so we left. One of the waitresses ran out and apologized. I appreciate the apology but honestly it wasn't that busy for a Friday night. Overall, I understand things happen and the servers were struggling. The bar was great and the ppl getting served seemed to be having a great time. This little place has some good stuffed jalapeno peppers. Wrapped in bacon and baked instead of fried good choice. Many cocktail drink options and a good selection of draft beers. I like this place. It's non-smoking. The food is good- those mozzarella sticks are super tasty but man, could they have better happy hour prices for drinks or something? The beer selection is good but it isn't cheap. And honestly for the zero ambience you get out of this place I'd rather pay that much for a beer that's half priced. read more

Honestly, I've been coming here for years and it used to be so great up until the past year. Service has just completely plummeted. We've been trying to stick it out, still coming weekly, hoping things would improve. Unfortunately, the amount of times we have waited 45 minutes to an hour for food, had mistaken/forgotten orders, and waited 30 minutes+ for our waitresses to come back to check on us is insane. The worst part is that the mistakes are rarely acknowledged or apologized for. This level of service has just become the norm. Our friend group have all worked in food service, so we're pretty understanding, but this is just par for the course now. Giving two stars because the food and drinks are genuinely good, but it is really disheartening to be disappointed nearly every time we come now. Hope things turn around, would like to see this place continue to do well, but we're gonna stop coming. read more

I have to say, the service is decent, nice atmosphere to just sit and hang out with friends after work over a few beers, etc. However, this would be the THIRD time within the last year in which additional tip gets added to my check. Two of the times I tipped leaving cash on the table in addition to leaving a tip using my credit card, thinking it would be nice for the waitress to have cash immediately. But it's frustrating when an additional tip gets added to my bill when I have my receipt that states otherwise... one of those days the total "tip" I gave turned out to be 35-40%... Most people may not catch a few bucks here and there, but I keep all my receipts and reconcile my expenses every week. I enjoy this place, but it really is VERY irritating when I have to worry whether the bill would be correct or if my check gets added additional/altered tip, especially if I tip via cash but additional tip gets added on my credit card... I have been here a few times. Each time it was really hard to get the waitstaff's attention, even on a slow night. They were just hanging by the bar talking to the bartender. We had to literally wave our hands in the air to get them to come over. The food is hit or miss. One night the tatchos were on point; the next week they were bland a flavorless. Not worth the trip, imo. The beers are inexplicably expensive. Almost $6 for an average draft beer! Too much for a college town. Their beer selection is nothing to brag about either. Came here for the first time for my friend's Birthday with a group. Walking in we were delighted by how cute and classy the place was! Not very many people at first (around 8 on a Wednesday) but later more people started coming. Little did we know that it was open mic night for stand up comedy!!! My friends and I have never been to any type of stand up comedy, so that was a neat experience. Great environment, delicious food, awesome drink selection, and the service was great too. We always have a great time here. The service is friendly. The ambiance is hip, comfortable, and inviting. The patio is great. The wine and drink selection are pretty middle of the road. I could see this place do well hitting up a more expensive market with better wines, cocktails and beers but at least the price is right for what they serve. Anyway, I guess they're not interested in going for that segment. It's just my opinion that they could succeed and bring on more money in that segment with the right management. I asked the bartender his recommendation for food and ended up with pulled pork nachos with black bean dip. It was awesome. A little spicy for my taste but if you like spicy you will love them. If you have a milder palette just ask for light jalapeños. The service is a little slow but otherwise this is a great corner bar/restaurant. read more

Nothing too special here. As another commenter posted, tons of taps but not very many really good ones. The inside isn't really a great atmosphere or anything and thus far it has been far too hot to sit outside. It's non-smoking as well. I generally don't give a crap if I go into a smoking bar, but it's a deal breaker for some. Nevertheless, all ratings are relative---this is a go-to bar here in Lubbock since it's a) a bar for adults for the most part, b) has some ok beer on tap and c) My sense thus far is that Lubbock does not have very many good, relaxed pub style bars at all. read more

I am so disappointed in the Lantern! I live out of town and was so excited to come back and drink and dine there, specifically dine, but supposedly there is a new cook who doesn't know how to put ingredients on nachos! Their nachos are my favorite out of any place I have ever eaten; however that was when the ingredients were placed on the chips! Seriously, my friends and I were practically eating just chips. We had to order more queso to put on it, so that there would be something on it. We wanted to ask for more beef and pico, but you never know if people are going to spit on your food if you complain... So we had queso chips instead of nachos!! So sad Lantern, so sad! Nachos are my go to lazy food... If I can make nachos lazily with just cheese and that's more than you have then something is wrong!!! The lantern is a good place to have a drink and a meal. The food is pretty good. We usually get the sliders..they have a thanksgiving slider that's great. And recently added a sloppy joe slider that we're gonna try this week. The interior is clean and classy. And the staff (in their weird gray outfits) are always super cool. Also they have a dog friendly porch! But most importantly is the liquor selection. It's great And they pour nice. It does get crazy packed on weekends so keep that in mind. My favorite bar in Lubbock! Good food and service. Drinks are drinks to me. The clientele isn't rowdy and its a nice place to hang and talk. The cheeseburger sliders might be the best burgers in Lubbock. The chicken skewers with peanut sauce are great. The pork rinds are freshly fried with a sriacha seasoning, excellent. Great patio! The bar is smoke free inside, so I only go when the weather is warm enough to hang out on the patio.

Good bar with good drinks a good food. Definitely more of a place for a mid-20s+ crowd which is nice.

Came here with our dog for dinner when we stopped in town on our way to Colorado. The patio was very nice and didn't feel like you were right on the road with the set they had and the server was great. Decent beer and liquor selection for Lubbock Texas. Atmosphere was dark and bar inviting. Dark seats and an open bar area. Good was typical bar food. We had the meatballs in lemon sauce and the meatballs were obviously frozen but the sauce and crispy crostinis were very good and garlicky. I had a french dip and the bread could have been toasted. The meat tasted very good and the cheese was melted. Loved the au jus and horseradish sauce. I cannot for the life of me remember what my husband got but he absolutely loved it.
