I am mad that I never tried this place before today. I was the anti-health food guy until a few months ago when I started watching what I ate. I literally drove by this place 5x a week and never stopped because they had "carrot" in their name. It's not a complete vegetarian menu but pretty much with only chicken and tuna salad as options outside of that. So I go in, super friendly staff, four ladies, just cranking out some seriously colorful and good looking food. So I ordered the hummus wrap with vinaigrette. This thing was amazing and all the vegetables were fresh. The hummus was made in house and wow did it hit the spot. After the meal I saw an amazing looking cake that I somehow refused, but got this vegan popsicle instead.... it was almond butter and banana and was outstanding. Holy Green Sauce! I don't know what they put in this sauce but it's amazing and I wish they would bottle it up and sell it. If I have to pick a favorite pita it would be the tuna - it goes so well with the green sauce :) Everything here is fresh fresh fresh! The amazing smell of fruit hits you on the way in and then entices you to order one of the smoothies which are just the bomb! They put a smile of your face for sure. Happy to say that I can grab lunch under the $10 mark which isn't that easy to do anymore so I appreciate that this place hasn't gone nutty and jacked up the prices like other sandwich shops in the area. It is a super casual local spot that gets a lot of regulars. I enjoy the tuna pita for lunch but you can get it to go or eat it there on the counter. I do recommend using a fork since it can tend to fall apart when you eat it. Wash it down with a veggie drink. Most options are around or under $4. This is an iconic little restaurant that has been in business since the times when Coconut Grove was a true hippie village. Somehow it has remained true to form and is still a low key laid back place to get a veggie sandwich, fresh juice, or for meat eaters even tuna sandwiches. My friend had just that. He had a super stuffed pita bread with tuna, sprouts, carrots all fresh. I had a carrot and orange juice. The juice was fresh, as they juice to order. The part I liked best was that the juice has pulp. It isn't super finely strained liquid but rather a thicker juice with all the goodness of fiber and pulp. The service was as expected. Friendly, casual and quick. This is not a place to expect table side service if you sit at the table. When your food is ready, you can stand up and reach over to the counter where you will be handed your meal with a smile. I loved this place when I was a teenager and I love this place now as I approach my senior years. I hope I can take my grandchildren there so they can fall in love with it too. read more

We started off with a glass (small solo cup actually) of freshly juiced carrot juice with ginger. I've had carrot juice before--this was entirely different. The ginger adds a touch of sweetness to the carrot juice that makes it good. Nothing like juice from the can. For lunch I had one of the few items with meat--the tuna pita. As with the other pitas it came jammed full of veggies galore, a tomato based dipping sauce, and another green dipping sauce that added taste (and probably calories) to an otherwise dry pita sandwich. For dessert we had an oatmeal cranberry cookie. The cookies are all vegan, but it still tasted fine to me. Came by this restaurant during lunch. Parking is a nightmare, so you are better off parking elsewhere and walking over. Food was good but portions are way too small. The service wasn't great either, the guy took forever to attend us even though he noticed we were standing there for about 15 minutes and aside from the fact that he didn't notice, when he came up to us he wasn't the friendliest. This was absolutely a pleasant and simple surprise. With all the construction going on in the Grove I tend to avoid the area a bit or go to my usual spots. We were looking for a lite bite when we went to The Last Carrot but wanted to satisfy our hunger as well. Their unique pita sandwiches really hit the spot. The veggies are clearly fresh as the crunchy cool feel resonates with every bite. We had a couple fruit smoothies as well that helped satisfy that sweet tooth. There is no table service, you have to order at the counter and bring it back to your seat. I love the baked tofu. The green sauce here should be bottled and marketed immediately. It resemble a diner but the food is so amazing fresh you feel like you are eating at the farmer market on Saturday at the grove. I also had the pineapple wheat grass juice. Let me just tell you how amazing this juice is! I usually have a hard time with wheat grass that I have to have a chaser but the pineapple juice is so sweet and refreshing that the wheat grass taste amazing with it. Ooooohhh and how can I forget the carrot cake. The most delicious soft and perfect amount of sweetness. I could have ate 5 pieces and the best part it's vegan! I always enjoy lunch at the Last Carrot! My favorite thing on their menu is the avocado melt spinach pie when it is in season. I definitely recommend getting a sauce with any meal! Unfortunately I don't know the name but they have a green sauce and an orange sauce and I always make sure to ask for a side of the green sauce with my melt. This menu's probably been the same since they opened back in the 70s... which was probably the same time they gave the interior a facelfit. The bar stools with the ribbed cushions - you may call it kitch and cute, but this is the way its been since I was coming here 10 years ago. Maybe it's time to pour some new life into the cafe? Looks aside, the chicken salad pita is a winner. The shreaded white meat doesn't come bathed in mayonaise (yay), and the pita's bursting with shredded carrots, sprouts, tomatoes and cucumbers. There are only so many Subway veggie sandwiches I can eat - for real! Anyway, The Last Carrot is a wonderland of options for someone like moi. From peanut butter and banana pitas to spinach melts and delicious spicy hummus. It's so incredibly rare to find a restaurant where I can eat EVERY item on the menu. Yay Last Carrot! The pita sandwiches are delish, I had the hummus and the BF had the tuna. The homemade vinaigrette they serve with it is to die for. I want to eat only that on every salad I consume for the rest of my life!!! Can't wait to try the variety of juices - carrot, cucumber, wheatgrass. I may even be back tomorrow, who knows!
