Chicken gyro on plate with fries

Stopped here for a quick dinner with family, and had a lovely experience. Service was great - friendly and quick! The food was great - the gyro was terrific, and the crab cake sandwich was quite nice. If you're looking for a fun, casual, comfortable diner experience, Legacy is great!

Easy 5 stars. I live in the area and have been a few times over the years. If you're looking for a great Jersey diner, this is it. I was most recently here on a Saturday night around 6:30. Was seated right away. Our waitress was super friendly, warm and welcoming. She told us the kitchen was a little backed up and there might be a wait for our food but it only took about twenty minutes. My son ordered the Mac and cheese from the kids menu and loved it, and I appreciated that it was real Mac and cheese and not just from a box like we've found in other restaurants. I got the patty melt, and I can easily say this was the greatest patty melt I've ever had in my life. Perfectly cooked, juicy, tender, swimming in perfectly melted and gloopy mushrooms, onions, and Swiss cheese. There is nothing quite like hearty diner comfort food that just touches the soul. BYOB and can provide wine glasses if you bring a bottle of wine. Not open 24 hours, but at least open until midnight if you need a a late night fix. This place is warm, inviting, filled with friendly staff and customers, like stepping into a slice of Americana.

The food was delicious, the server was attentive and very personable. Ambience was perfect for a diner. Will definitely be returning

Denise is a mind reader!! Such wonderful service ON Thanksgiving day and an unforgettable warmth that we were hoping for. Legacy Diner sets a new bar for diners for me. It's the best diner I've ever been to and the food was so beautiful in flavors. More than that... the decor was unforgettable and the parking was easy, the bathrooms were clean, and the the environment was very family and friends, casual and comfortable. I am so THANKFUL for this spot and I plan to, like Denise said, come back and get more!!!

chicken quesadilla - huge AND good!

REALLY REALLY GOOD FOOD !!! I wanted a different diner for a change. I hadn't been here in probably ten years. I recall how good their chicken gyros were. Tonight I had crab cakes and a salad. Really yummy - no filler. The man, a chicken cheese steak that he LOVED! Not crappy chicken and a super soft roll. He had my sides - string beans that he flipped for! Our waitress was very attentive and sweet. We will absolutely be returning!!!

The Legacy Diner has a decent selection of meals that are served up in a timely fashion by their friendly wait staff. They setup outside seating with umbrellas in front of the diner during the pandemic, which was a great option for those wanting a meal out of the house but not quite ready to venture inside. Recently due to limited staffing they have not used the outside seating area unfortunately. All in all you can get a decent meal at a fair price, friendly staff, and they have a private parking lot available.

The owners and staff are really nice. This is your authentic NJ diner. They have a large menu with all the staples you could ask for.

When I got the bill everything I ordered was 2 dollars more than what was listed. That is either incompetence or a scam. Now the food. Got the calamari, clam chowder, steak and eggs, and shrimp with cheesy grits. Calamari was overly greasy and the breading was barely sticking to it. Clam chowder was the only thing acceptable. Steak was totally fatty, cooked to medium/medium well when medium rare was requested. Grits were completely undercooked and disgusting. No cheese. They just took the grits from another dish on the menu (fish and grits with greens) and threw the shrimp on top of that. Wasn't even the correct dish and the dish that was provided wasn't even cooked properly. Server and host were very nice. That's about all the positive.

No. It is simply a reliable hearth for hungry souls who adore breakfast food, lunch food, and dinner food in equal measure. And it is my dear mother's favorite diner in the area, which feels like a credential earned through decades of careful eating and limited dietary options thanks to a gallbladder that decided it had seen enough of this world. Service here approaches that shining ideal of Americana. The wait staff seem genuinely invested in your continued existence, keeping coffee cups filled and orders moving with calm efficiency. You are not rushed, forgotten, or treated like an inconvenience. You are treated like someone who came in hungry and intends to leave better than you arrived. The food is dependable in the most comforting sense of the word. The menu is typically Jersey diner broad and familiar, offering breakfast all day, sturdy sandwiches, omelets that know what they are doing, and classic diner dinners that arrive hot and generous. I've had the meatloaf with mushroom gravy, the French onion soup, the prime rib, and the French toast. Nothing is fancy or experimental. Nothing is trying to impress you. It simply aims to be good, and usually succeeds. The dining room itself is clean and comfortable, with the reassuring atmosphere of a place that has seen many regulars come and go and remembers them kindly. Families, couples, and solo diners all seem equally at home. You can order chicken croquettes or a country omelette and know exactly what you are going to get, which is a small but meaningful luxury in a world that so often overpromises and underdelivers. So I give the Black Horse Diner four stars. Not because it is extraordinary, but because it is steady, sincere, and reliably satisfying. Sometimes a solid meal served by capable people in a place that knows itself is more than enough.

Strong start. I ordered one of the mini meals. I really loved the cream of mushroom soup of the day. Deep flavor and a nice complement of mushrooms, better than usual. The initial appetizers with the mini meals came out right away. I would say an average wait time for dinner. And the food? My chicken croquette tasted almost like lobster. Plenty of sauce to dip the beans. I tried my friend's fries and those are also outstanding. Excellent meal through and through. And mini meals include a dessert! Homemade pudding - tapioca is delicious. Highly recommend. I'm not a diner guru, but this hit every angle I'd want. Come check it out!

Inside, the food was fresh, plentiful, and delicious. We chose side salads instead of fries and they were a great size to start the meal. I had the open‑face Turkey Reuben and the portion was definitely shareable and very good. My husband had the fish and chips and the cod was fried perfectly, 4 nice fillets, crisp outside and tender inside. He swapped the fries for a baked potato and it tasted like it came straight from the oven, hot and fluffy. They offered a long list of specials for 16.99 that included beverage, soup, salad, an entrée and dessert. The cakes and pies looked fabulous and many were ordering dessert. We were too full this time, but next visit we'll save room. Our waitress, Lala, was wonderfu, attentive, friendly and always checking in at the right moments. The manager greeted us warmly when we arrived and again when we left, which added to the friendly atmosphere. Plenty of parking and easy to get in and out. We would definitely recommend this diner and would happily return.

Soup came with - my cup of Chicken Pastina was very good and tasty. The salad was pretty good but the steak needed more flavor. The 1000 Island didn't taste homemade like at most other places I dine. They had a decent crowd for a Wednesday night. Their dessert case looked amazing and I heard two tables ordering cake and Oreo cheesecake!!! I hit the bathroom before heading out. Nice decor but dirty and a fly was hovering around. Sweet server named Emma was probably the highlight . One and done for me - sorry.

I had the Power Breakfast, and my wife enjoyed the California Omelette. Both meals were fresh, flavorful, generously portioned, and beautifully prepared. We would absolutely order them again. Our server, Benjamin, deserves special recognition. He was friendly, attentive, checked on us at just the right times, and never made us feel rushed. His service was outstanding and added to an otherwise wonderful dining experience. The only disappointment was the beverage pricing. I'll admit that we typically don't study the menu prices before ordering--that was probably our mistake. After eating in restaurants for more than 70 years, however, I can honestly say these beverage prices are among the most outrageous I've encountered. We were charged $3.99 for a single cup of black coffee and $5.99 for one glass of lemonade--nearly $10 for two beverages. The coffee was simply one ordinary cup of black coffee, and the lemonade was so incredibly sweet that it was almost undrinkable. Neither beverage came close to justifying its price. It's unfortunate because everything else was excellent. The quality of the food, the atmosphere, and Benjamin's exceptional service make Silver Diner a place we would gladly visit again. However, management should seriously reconsider charging nearly $10 for one standard cup of coffee and one mediocre glass of lemonade. Prices like that leave customers feeling taken advantage of and detract from what is otherwise a terrific dining experience. We'll definitely be back--but next time we'll probably skip the beverages unless the pricing becomes more reasonable.
