I am originally from this town and come back to visit family every year. We always make a point to make a stop at Schu's. It is one of my in laws favorite places and we have come to adore it too. During the summer, sitting outside in a beautiful day while bustling tourists walk by and you look out over the bluff to the lake is about as charming as it gets. Sitting indoors you have a cozy welcoming environment that lends a hint to Michigan's great outdoors. The food is always fabulous and the staff is always friendly and upbeat. Super cool venue with a cozy, low lit vibe. More of a supper club vibe. Fast service, but food was mid. Fajitas were very inexpensive at $14 and they were pretty bland definitely needed more seasoning. My husband got the tequila pasta and he said he would give it a seven out of 10. A casual restaurant overlooking Lake Michigan. Indoor and outdoor seating available but the outdoor seating is along a pretty busy street so it can get noisy. Visited by locals and visitors,their menu offers just about everything from burgers,salads,soups,noodles and chef features. Started with a Michigan Old Fashion and Cider. They also have a huge beer and wine list. I had the Perch sandwich. Lightly breaded and moist. Came with fries and I substituted the Cole Slaw with asparagus. Delicious My wife had the Black and Blue salad with tenderloin. The salad tho was just romaine lettuce with nothing else such as tomatoes,cucumbers or not much bleu cheese. The most perfect, yummy, delicious Reuben sandwich. My husband and I stopped here on New Year's Day while visiting St. Joseph's. When we arrived, the hostess and waitresses were very friendly. I ordered the Reuben and my husband had the soup & salad. The sweet potato fries were delicious. I highly recommend. My family went there on a Saturday after a day at the beach. We were greeted by Remy who was fantastic in getting a seated at a great table. Our server was Brittney and she did an awesome job. We ordered some beer bartered onion rings snd the were perfectly cooked. No onions pulling out in these. Every bite was crunchy and devoured immediately. The perch sandwiches were very delicious and just tasty. The croissant chicken salad sandwiches hit the spot! The only downsides was the dark vanilla porter beer didn't have any type of head on it at all. The bill has an automatic what's going on 20% to 30% tip.... We did the custom tip feature. Before the very constructive critic I'd like to start off by saying the service here was AMAZING! Young lady that took care of us was very attentive, the staff was super friendly, they cleared as we finished and was felt very welcomed! Now the hash part, ‍ Crabcakes, good flavor but for sure we're missing something, lemon zest, definitely a little more panko. Calamari, UFF.. if you're looking for pre-battered frozen VERY heavy breaded calamari with NO flavor this is it. Almost would bet that they were cooked in VERY old frying oil. Or it was just a horrible calamari they order n serve. But for sure if I had to bet the oil was probably just not filtered or changed in a while! (Our fries had that burnt oil taste as well) We than ordered a Wagyu Burger with additional toppings, WAGYU burger. Hard to mess it up. But for sure lacked seasoning. Sadly! Now keep in mind. I do work in the industry. Blessed to say I run a million dollar catering company n we strive to serve the best to our guest. Had a Flatbread n Boy! If ur looking to get a soggy greasy flatbread. My husband has been talking for years about how he has never been to Schu's. I was super excited that he decided to take us here to eat instead of just constantly reminding me he hasn't been here. We came in on Wednesday April 26th and our servers name was Tina. Tina was a great server for our dine in meal and was the cherry on top of a wonderful night. Checking in on us regularly and generally being helpful. She got us our food quickly and our order was correct. Tina also is super funny and while usually with my anxiety I don't love extra interactions, she was absolutely wonderful. My husband got an angus burger with a side of french fries. I got the bucatini pasta with meatballs, which comes with a bread stick and a salad with choice of dressing (I got ranch). Our food was great and my husband was already talking about coming back to enjoy the outside seating. We had also discussed coming by Schu's to sit by the bar so we can watch a sports game on one of their televisions. Before heading out I used the restroom really quickly and it was clean. Our server was very helpful and we enjoyed sitting out on the patio on such a beautiful Mother's Day. The drinks were served to us quickly along with ice water which was appreciated. The chicken dinner special is a good deal here. Chicken is good, sides are just ok. Green beans, coleslaw, and mashed potatoes. Coleslaw did not seem fresh and the green beans were cold. The swiss burger was ok but came with items I said I did not want. Not sure if that was a server issue, because nothing was being written down, or a kitchen error. The salt and pepper shakers were really dirty and sticky, like just not getting wiped down at all. It wasn't cleanser sticky either. French's ketchup is also gross. The service was very friendly. Lunch for five this afternoon was delicious. Quick service. Had the Reuben sandwich (great corned beef, not fatty), Michigan Cherry Salad (generous, tasty, fresh greens), and chicken salad sandwich. I was pretty set on a steak and potatoes for dinner. I called several restaurants in the area and they were closed because it was on a Monday. We looked at Schu's Grill and Bar and they had a Filet and Rib Eye steak. I ordered a LIT and it was great which is mostly a hit and miss at some restaurants. My wife order a Bloody Mary and it was pretty good also. I order the Filet, baked potato and green beans ( they no asparagus) The steak was a little under done for medium rare but it was still very good, the baked potato was very flavorful for a baked potato and the green beans were some of the best I have had. My wife ordered the Tuna salad and enjoyed it very much. My wife ordered the Creme Brulé for dessert and it was just awesome. Overall a 5 star because it was one of the few restaurants in the area that was open. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Monday night in St Joseph MI. The rest of the restaurants in the area pretty much cater to the Chicago people, but there are some people that have an appetite on Mondays and are local. read more

I had the Grilled Tequila Chicken, which I really enjoyed, but it was really lacking chicken. lol It had a nice kick to it and I enjoyed it, but having to dig for chicken and not finding much was a bit of a bummer. Decent lunch spot in downtown St Joseph. Both indoor and outdoor seating was available, and there's a varied menu of American eats, though my friend and I both got burgers. There was the problem of the waitress not writing anything down and then things being wrong. She asked how I wanted my burger cooked; I said medium, and it was way beyond that. Was it a communication issue or just poor workmanship in the kitchen? Don't know, except I had also ordered sweet potato fries which were also forgotten. Really, there is no shame in writing things down! The food tasted good overall and the setting was nice, on one end of downtown, with a parking lot behind. We got to the restaurant right around 6:30ish and it was pretty busy but we got right in and was seated in one of the best tables. There are lots of windows which have a spectacular view of the sun setting over Lake Michigan. Low lighting with candles on the table created a warm and inviting feel on this fall night. The ribs you can pull apart with a fork and the barbecue sauce is really good. Not too spicy and not too sweet. The Panini was overflowing with meat and was perfectly warmed. The fries were super crispy and not greasy at all. My only negative would be that the bread for the panini was not large enough for all the meat. Cute place in St Joe's not to far from Lake Michigan. They offer outdoor seating, but you may have to wait. We are inside, and staff was friendly and masked. I had the bleu cheese steak salad. It was Romain, steak and blue cheese with Caesar dressing. It was quite hearty salad. Tasted delicious, but if you're looking for more veggies, I suggest getting one of their summer salads or a quinoa bowl. The theme of St. Joe restaurants is this: Awful to mediocre food for Chicago high-end restaurant prices with service that's at or below average. This place didn't sway far from the theme. Lobster Bisque was cheddar cheese soup with imitation lobster. $38 was the special for rainbow trout. It was....edible. Ahi tuna salad - tuna was overcooked and salad was over-dressed. Staff were very friendly and the food looked great, but I was pretty disappointed. My fault for not realizing perch had such a fishy taste, but the signature potatoes were cold and the cole slaw was very bland. I did pair it with their white sangria and it was delicious. I'd be willing to give the restaurant another chance but will steer clear the fish. read more

Dinner last night was really appreciated. Our server Victoria was professional, quick, attentive and very pleasant. The meals we had were really good. I had the scallops which are new on the menu. My husband had a new item on the menu as well. He had the filet and wedge. Everything served was fresh and yummy. The inside seemed crisp and inviting. Almost, they were the only restaurant open around 7pm in front of the silver beach beside ice cream places. The staff were super friendly and very welcoming. Nice and helpful. We ordered 2 grilled salmon sandwiches to go along with fries and lobster soup. We ate in front of the beautiful view of silver beache hills. The salmon was fresh, cooked well , melted in the mouth and tasted very good with their secret sauce. I just felt it might need to be seasoned with gralic or lemon 9/10 The fries were seasoned right and coated with bread crumbles. 10/10 The lobster soup was interesting! Creamy and delicious. It tasted sweet like tomato sauce and creamy with lobster pieces. 10/10 Prices were reasonable , the total was 37$ for 2 person.
