Stopping in for lunch on our way up the coast and it definitely hit the spot. The little shop is so cute, simple, and has plenty of seating. The guy working (maybe the owner) was so friendly and very helpful when it came to making a decision. They have plenty of vegetarian options. My sandwich was very good. Very fresh ingredients, but a little too much aioli and I wish they had tomato. I loved the jalapeno cheese bread offering. Next time I would also add pickles.

Love the menu choices. It was hard to decide but I settled on the Russian River sandwich because I'm an eggplant lover. I added chicken and it was delicious! Quality ingredients and a very hearty and tasty sandwich (I managed to eat half and ate the other half for dinner). Can't wait to try the other options on the menu.

Fun menu, killer flavor combinations. Quality of fresh, local food you can taste is worth the price. Only tried their sandwiches (on GF bread that's made locally). Due to sandwiches being made with decent meat portions (thank you!), the GF bread tends to be thinner and so it crumbles easily. Order to-go or grab a seat a one of their petite picnic benches inside. Very friendly welcomed when walking in + when you order, you can see them working efficiently in the back.

Stopped by for a sammy for lunch. Staff were super friendly and helpful with ideas on what to order. Noticed that some things on their menu were no longer available but I found something that was tasty. Ordered the Petaluma. The sandwiches are pretty big so if you're not too hungry, I recommend sharing with someone.

Beef short rib- expensive for not much excitement

Just to preface, I'm at my core not a sandwich person. It takes a lot to wow me about sandwiches because I feel like the bar overall is so incredibly low. Think subway, togos, etc- just mass shredded iceberg, tomatoes that taste like water, and tuna that doesn't even have fish in it. That said, the hype about the local is so oversized, it's surprising. I tried their items when they were located at the active gym, and i thought they were ok, but even that felt like they were really expensive for a very small and just slightly above average sandwich. Once they moved to their new location, I was interested to hear all the write ups they were getting and thought "wow maybe they mixed something up and they're doing something different - let's give them another try." We have now been twice to their new spot, and both times our sandwiches were very pricey and very small, which would be ok if they were equally very delicious... but they were unfortunately not. I felt like for the price, the items were very unimpressive. The flavors were ok, the textures were ok, but the size for the price, not ok. Hubs got the pulled pork and I had the steak sando, both of which I make variations of at home, and the ratio of filling to overall sandwich was dismal. Check my photos, it looks like one of the sandwiches has literally a single slice of cheese. I'm constantly shocked they have sold out signs on the door, it makes me think they are trying to manufacture a demand for a product. I mean it did work on us, we went two additional times after we decided it wasn't worth it, just to make sure we didn't just catch them on an off day. As always, I'm happy to support local business and I'm happy to pay more for something really good and delicious, but this was not that...not the first time, or any times after that. Sad really.

The hype about this place is very real, and very accurate. This is an outstanding sandwich spot in Petaluma serving high-quality ingredients and innovative flavors. Lots of vegan/vegetarian options, and some customization is possible. The only ding is the price - it's a hefty cost, but it really is incredible. I'll definitely go back. Service is incredible, though because they make the sandwich to order, it's not fast food.

Great service and fantastic food! The sandwiches are so tasty! I'm working my way through the entire menu. My favorite so far is The Petaluma. The Pastrami (warm) is a close 2nd. What's going to be your favorite??

A friend and I were in the area and decided we needed sandwiches, after a morning shopping. We saw this place was highly rated, so we went for it! We ordered the Petaluma and the special of the day, which was a toasty beef rib meat with slaw sandwich. Much like a pulled pork sandwich. We shared half of each, and could not decided which one was better! They were both amazing in their own ways! Know we are curious about the rest of the menu! The bread was top notch and the meat was generous! The sandwiches were both seasoned perfectly in my opinion, the beef sandwich had a spicy kick, but in the best way. Not over bearing, wipe my brow, way, just packed with flavor! They serve all our favorite drinks and great potato chip options as well. We got a cute little picnic table in the back and the customer service was kind and quick. Clearly The Local, cares about their clientele! I for one, will be back. Keep up the good work!

A must stop for us now in Petaluma! We are in town from Vegas traveling from the Oakland airport to visit family in Santa Rosa and needed something tasty along the drive. This did not disappoint! We had the Phoenix, pastrami, and cucumber salad. Service was friendly and efficient and the food was top tier.

The food is always fresh and delicious. Very consistent and that's a bonus when it's amazing every time. One of the only places that I'll order a sandwich off the many "as is" even when they are using ingredients I don't like. The chefs have a way of blending flavors that work incredibly together. PETALUMA'S BEST KEPT SECRET!! The bites at this spot, located in the Active fitness center, pack an explosion of flavor! Serving salads, sandwiches, smoothies and fresh-pressed juice, the high quality ingredients are sourced locally! The menu changes as ingredients go in and out of season. The combinations in the sandwiches are nothing you'll get anywhere else! Everything I've had is awesome but my first love with the (vegetarian) kimchi Bahn mi and my current addiction is the "Old Adobe" turkey with havarti accented with pickled radishes, pickled onions, thinly sliced jalapeños and a roasted shallot vinaigrette. Mmmmm The staff is super friendly and make your items fresh to order. I was amazed by this place! I had the Penngrove sandwich, I wanted to try it because it had such an interesting mixture of produce in it The pickled purple cauliflower was AWESOME! It added a really great acidity and crunch to the sandwich. I also had the cucumber salad which was really good as well. All super fresh. I've gotten a lot of salads from other places that you have to pick through the lettuce and pick out the bad pieces, not here! It was all fresh and crisp. Customer service was super friendly as well. Hard to find but SO worth it. Had the Cubano, spicy dill pickle chips & turmeric ginger tonic - winning combination! And peanut butter protein balls for later. Excellent service too - they added jalapeño and gave me a side of homemade hot sauce bc I like it spicy . Will definitely come back for more!!! read more

This is my new spot - the sandwiches here are on point. They got that fresh bread, some amazing custom sauces...super fresh. Grabbed a sandwich on my way up to wine country. The Local delivered an amazing sandwich, I got the dirty bird, great fresh roll with Turkey, Pickled slaw, pesto, hot sauce, the flavors really jump at you, Im already craving another!!! One of the, if not the, best Vegan sandwich I have had... The Helen Putnam...I also had the variation of the sandwich as a wrap. It was good, but the Della Fattoria bread on the Helen Putnam really makes it go that extra distance... They have various vegetarian options and meat options as well as salads... Inside the gym by Kohls and there is some seating if you want to sit and eat. You do not have to be a member of the gym to order there read more

Hands down one of the best sandwich and smoothie shops in Petaluma! The sandwiches aren't your typical deli sandwich, they are way better. The ingredients are always fresh and local. These craft sandwiches are delicious and every bite explodes with flavor in your mouth. The smoothies are made with fruit and oat milk; no added ice or any unnecessary ingredients. We were unsure when we first located the business, as it's inside of a wellness center, but the minute we walked in, it was easy to find. The guys working there were nice and helpful. There was an open space with tables, making it a comfortable place to eat. We ordered the Boulevard and the Sonoma Mountain. Both were delicious and I highly recommend either. There is the option to add turkey, ham or salami with the Sonoma Mountain but I didn't see it at the time. There was so much flavor between the pesto and chili lime aioli that i didn't miss the meat! I would love to try other sandwiches on the menu and will hopefully be in the area sooner than later to do so. read more

Had the NY special delivered from Petaluma food taxi and it was absolutely delicious. Nothing I would change about it, flavors perfectly balanced, crunchy bread, tangy sauce, not greasy delicious meat, cheeses, and veggies. 10/10 would recommend and this special needs to become a regular because it's absolutely delicious. Found this hidden sandwich spot next to the hotel. Ordered the Cubano hot sandwich. Was delicious but would be more stars if they added pork to it as a real cubano. I missed it when ordering. Order was to for pick up and when I got home, it was basically a hot ham panini sandwich!! Please add pork to it!! Staff was friendly and busy making other orders. Was in Petaluma for the day visiting friends and stopped in for sandwiches. Was located inside of a gym so wasn't sure what to expect at first. Was blown away - all of the ingredients tasted so fresh and high quality. Owners were working behind the counter and explained their farm to table approach which was really cool for a casual spot like this. Lots of good veggie options which is always appreciated, and gluten-free bread for sandwiches which is a lifesaver. We got a cubano, a veggie wrap and an amazing soup. 5/5, will come here for lunch every time we're in Petaluma. read more

Probably the best sandwich I've had. Seriously. The flavor profiles were amazing! Service was friendly too. Location is inside a rec type center so at first I thought we were in the wrong place. I wish I had taken a photo but we took it go and ate it before I even thought about it! We had the boulevard and the Petaluma . The Bread though!! AHHHmazing. Can't wait to go again! read more

We feel fortunate to have The Local in our gym and in Petaluma! Magical smoothies that are filling, delicious and healthy. Creative sandwiches with all of your favorite local ingredients that you could never make at home! A ton of options to try from hot, cold, vegetarian, wraps etc. that I've never ordered the same thing twice! But the best part is the personal care that put into every interaction. My kids love "The smoothie guy" because he is happy to see them and makes them yummy berry smoothies and "pink hummus" but mom loves it because they drink up every sip of their healthy smoothies. They go above and beyond splitting a smoothie for them in two cups, making them a custom sandwich and cutting their straws so that they aren't too long for toddlers to handle. I could go on and on but this tired mom truly appreciates the joy and love that everyone at The Local puts into their work. I have a feeling this is just the beginning of great things for them! See you all later when these kiddos inevitably demand a smoothie after kids club! read more

The absolute best grilled cheese sandwich I have ever eaten! A generous addition of ham to this sandwich made with grilled Della sourdough, pepper Jack, cheddar and pesto made it exceptional. I got the Boulevard sandwich got my husband; he's going to go crazy when he gets home! A Tropics smoothie made with fresh fruits was the perfect addition; and for those curious, its dairy free! read more

Pros: Super fresh ingredients, friendly staff, clean tables. Cons: Few options, high price, wait time I wanted to like this place more, just average sandos. My friend got the Tahini bowl, which had brown rice, chickpeas, pickled cauliflower, cucumber, sweet potatoes, pickled carrots, spinach, and tahini. She also loved it! They were delicious but the serving was pretty small. What seemed odd to us was that the potatoes that were served as a side with the hamburgers were not the same as what was served as the starter. The starter was clearly made from fresh cut porates and were well seasoned. the potatoes with the entree seemed like run of the mill food service fries. The beet salad and entrees were also very tasty. however, we asked for the mustard aioli on the side with the hamburgers but that's not what we got. I have already eaten here twice in the quick few weeks it has been open! Always a good sign if you're quickly craving to go back!! First I got the standard turkey sandwich and then I came back for the Dirty Bird, a warmed up turkey on jalapeño cheddar. Both were melt in your mouth good with cool contrasting styles that I could see myself wanting either on any given day. The sandwiches are everything you would want in a sandwich. PERFECT bread, FRESH ingredients, DELICIOUS sauce, GREAT size. It's amazing how far fresh ingredients will go, the flavors really do vibrantly jump out of the veggies, cheese, and meat.
