His steak was amazing- perfectly seasoned, melts in your mouth. The mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy. My tuna special was delicious and fresh. The berry cheesecake gelato was also delicious. And surprisingly to some, steak is right up there as well. Now, I am sure I could cook a solid steak. I have in the past. That is where The Lost Fire comes in. My wife stumbled across this place when we couldn't get a reservation at Earth at Hidden Pond for our anniversary 2 years ago. Decided we would give it a go, as we love the Kennebunk area, and have rarely had a bad meal down that way. I am so glad we did. At this point we have been a few times. And it is always top notch. The old fashioned? Amazing. The steaks? Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The sides? Let me put it this way, I would kill a person for a serving of their creamed spinach. That's right, the creamed spinach is that good, and its the worst side dish. Let that sink in. For steaks I have had the Filet, the wagyu tomahawk, and the ribeye. I cannot say enough good things about how fresh, high quality, and perfectly cooked these steaks are. Every. Single. Time. My wife always goes for the fish, and while she has thoroughly enjoyed every one she has had, she is always sad she didn't go beef once she has a bite of mine. The desserts have always been amazing as well. Flourless chocolate tortes, bread pudding, gelato, just everything here is simply divine. You won't leave here hungry, or disappointed. The only downsides have been a couple grumpy or less than helpful staff members, but we all have bad days. Not gonna ding them anything when the overwhelming majority of staff are pleasant, attentive and kind. So go, eat, enjoy. And of course, on the way out, pose with the Giant Metal Cock (chicken). Small thin portion...and Tough Tough Tough....flavor was fine, tried cutting it several different directions..TOUGH TOUGH TOUGH in every direction. A few minutes after serving the server asked how it all was...and I told her and showed her the skirt steak...eww...next another woman came over - no idea who she was, asked how the skirt steak was, told her and showed her...she walked away never to be seen again. No offer of ANY KIND to fix the situation. $54 for a skirt steak that was NOT edible. They should take it off the menu...yes, it was that bad. So needless to say, we won't be going back. We ordered the Mixed Grill, which came with a variety of sausages, steaks, half chicken, and sweetbread. It was all phenomenal! The menu said it served 2 people, but could easily serve 3 or 4. We were very impressed with the amount of food we got for the price. This is NOT a restaurant for families. They had zero tolerance to noise and normal (but annoying!) kid behavior. There was one employee in particular, who had nothing to do with our table, who was audibly talking badly about our family, saying things like "this is out of control" and continuously getting the manager for unnecessary intervention. This resulted in an altercation between us and the manager as we expressed our discomfort and disappointment. Needless to say, I would not recommend this restaurant to other families. An employee actually had the nerve to come out and ask us to move his motorcycle to the back of the parking lot with the rest of the employee motorcycles to "maximize parking space". It wasn't even a parking space, the chef had us park in front of a trailer. Our motorcycle was worth more than half the cars in the parking lot. Our meal was good but the way we were treated to begin with set a bad tone for our dinner. I would not recommend based on how snobby this place is. This place has been on my bucket list since as early as I heard it existed and I wish I had known about it earlier. Thankfully time finally allowed for us to make it here and it met every expectation and exceeded them! My fiancée and I came here to celebrate being together for 4 years and we had such a special dinner. This is the perfect spot for a special date night or even just a catch up with family or friends. After listening to all the tempting specials we decided on their beef empanadas as a starter and my fiancée got their porterhouse and I got their pork chop. The empanadas were so tasty and perfect taste before the meal. Both the porterhouse and pork chop were cooked perfectly and the pork chop was by far the biggest I have gotten before. Based off how tasty everything was I imagine everything on the menu is phenomenal. We got another round of cocktails and the Aperol spritz was a solid choice too. Sitting at the bar we had a couple sat next to us celebrating their 52nd Anniversary and they were gracious enough in celebrating to get a round of drinks for the entirety of the bar! Had great conversations with them and all 20+ people at the bar were so thankful. I got to visit The Lost Fire on my last night in Kennebunk for a work trip and wow! After a conversation about how I don't like pork, I was informed that this pork chop would change my mind. I went out on a limb and resisted ordering a steak to try the pork chop and it was a great decision. I didn't know it was possible to have pork be so tender on the inside while maintaining a perfect crisp on the outside. The grilled provolone was other worldly and I will absolutely be attempting some of the chef's recipes from his cookbook including this and the chimichurri. Our waitress was sweet but not knowledgeable about the menu and had worked there for months; so I would recommend that the management train the staff on the menu and not assume they are know the menu and wines. Also we're we're a table of 8 and our entrees came out in drips and drabs... like 5 minutes separating the first from the last and my steak was not hot by the time I got mine (which was last) so I think it just sat in the kitchen. The Lost Fire has been on my to-do list for quite some time! Finally - thank you to my husband's birthday, I finally had a reason for booking a table. Plus, several friends have shared such positive feedback - and menu suggestions. The reservation process was simple and easy. I used their online portal via Resy vs calling the restaurant directly. I did note that we were celebrating a birthday for this visit. Maine had experienced a snow storm the day before and the snow was still clinging to the branches of the trees, creating a magical winder wonderland. As we pulled into the The Lost Fire, the lighting of the exterior blended with the brown and reds of the building and it looked so cozy! Our table was ready when we arrived at 8:15pm and we were lucky to have a table tucked away on a busy Saturday night with a note wishing my husband a Happy Birthday. -The service was excellent! Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. We had a chance to view the menu prior to visiting and he was able to answer our questions and make suggestions. He took our drink orders, coffee and an espresso martini and promptly delivered with fresh focaccia bread and a carafe of water for the table. -Starters were grilled provolone and grilled mushrooms. The grilled provolone had been suggested by a couple friends and the server recommended the mushrooms. The grilled provolone was really good! A thick slice of provolone that was crisp on the outside and creamy and melty on the inside, sitting on a bed of arugula and topped with a thick slice of grilled tomato, topped with their house pesto and microgreens. The mushrooms lacked flavor and fell flat. The dish really needed a bit of acid and salt. I asked for some lemon wedges and this addition, with a bit of salt helped. I would skip the mushrooms next visit but get the provolone again. -Entrees were Long Bone Short Rib and Ribeye steak and we both chose the creamed spinach as a side. I had originally ordered the Porterhouse but they were out. No big deal since i do love a ribeye cut. The short rib was tender and tasty and my ribeye was cooked perfectly. We were given two sauces to the beef dishes; a red salsa and a traditional chimichurri sauce. Now I LOVE a good chimichurri however, I really loved the salsa! It had a full bodied flavor with some zip and really went well with my ribeye. The creamed spinach was perfect and I would gladly eat this side again and again. While we would normally indulge for desserts, even shared, we were far too full to even consider this an option. Overall, we were very pleased and we will return. Last minute decision on a rainy day where we were too lazy to make plans. They were able to squeeze us into the bar. Beautiful, rustic decor and a vibrant ambiance. After delicious cocktails, we shared the special salad of the day which were blanched asparagus with avocado, micro greens and a lemon, cilantro and oil dressing with a special tingle that was fantastic. We ordered the meat platter for two, two fish special dinners, 1st chicken then grilled shrimp. The favorite were the most tender cuts of meat from the meat platter. The roasted chicken was sent back as it was very undercooked which we found surprising. Unfortunately the same for the shrimp. Flame grilling is touted as mastery here. So we found it confusing that the most basic of menu items were not cooked properly, hence the three stars. For dessert the crème brûlée was a stand out classic hard as glass caramelization and it's ultra creamy interior. read more

I will start by saying this, I'm not one to write a review unless I had the worst possible experience or an outstanding experience at a business. I've written very few reviews in my life but the experience my wife and I had at The Lost Fire in Kennebunkport exceeded every expectation imaginable. From the moment we walked in and were greeted by the host and hostess, walking to our table taking in the dark but romantic ambiance, all senses were heightened. The view, the smell of wood fired food, the anticipation of the experience, it was all unreal. We were seated and quickly greeted by the best server I've ever had in my life. Jennifer was kind, charismatic, extremely knowledgeable and had a passion for her work. She made some great recommendations and they did not disappoint. We started with drinks from the bar, me - a maple old fashioned, and my wife an extra dirty grey goose martini with stuffed olives. Our meals were amazing. We have eaten all across the world at some of the finest restaurants and the 10oz filet mignon that grill master German prepared for me was cooked perfectly. The Chimichurri sauce served with it was the perfect touch, although not remotely necessary. I also had their twice fried French fries. My wife had a tuna, rare with a side of creamed spinach. And for my birthday dessert we split an incredible bread pudding. I cannot recommend this entire dining experience enough. It will be our special place to come for any celebratory dinner, even living almost an hour and a half away.
