Stopped in on a Sunday. Planned on brunch, but they don't offer (which is totally ok), and the lunch choices looked good, and the service was friendly, so we stayed. We sat on the patio, which is perfect on a sunny afternoon due to the numerous large shade trees creating a very cool breezy patio. Our server was fantastic and amazingly attentive and engaging. He offered up the specials and we jumped! The shrimp tacos for my wife and the Grouper sandwich for me. We were happy with both choices. The portions were just right and the flavors were fresh and delicious. Our son had the Toasted Ravioli appetizer and they were top notch(had to sample...duh). Prob the best "t-ravs" on Main Street! Started with a drink called 'The Conversation' which was nice. My friend and I then shared the deviled eggs, also good with a great bacon flavor, before our meals. I got the scallop and shrimp risotto special. It was overall good, but the breading on the shrimp felt over done (I took it off). Pricing was on the higher side, my special was $45 (I didn't know that when I ordered) which feels high in my opinion for what was received. The patio area is very nice and had two levels, on a nice summer evening was devine. They have live music on Tues nights, so lucky us. While it is nice that they allow dogs on the patio there were 3 very large size dogs in our surrounding table space that was crowded and a bit much. When your dogs are tripping up servers and guests, it's a problem. read more

Super thankful and blessed to find this establishment open at 10pm Friday night. We were winding down for the evening and were hungry for something other than bar food. Seen this restaurant on the way back to our car with the door open. We popped inside and were immediately welcomed. They were hosting an event but offered us the opportunity to still be served on the outside patio by the fire. Excellent! Not only did we get delicious food but we still were given excellent service. What a beautiful ending to a great day. I would definitely say they created the most comfortable and casual dining experience for quality American Food. Perfect location in the heart of old town Main Street St. Charles for everyone to enjoy great food and drinks. The Main House was a surprise for dinner and the food was really good - served properly and quickly and the taste was extraordinary. Started with French Onion soup that hit the spot with taste and flavor. Had a grilled chicken fettuccine that was tasty and not overwhelming. As an out-of-towner on my first visit to St. Charles, I was asked by local friends to research and pick a restaurant for dinner. At the time, I picked "Tompkins Riverside" and it made us all very happy. My friends reminisced about their visits to "The Mother-in-Law House", an earlier establishment in this historic 158 year old building. A second visit provided me the option to pick a restaurant, that time I chose "The Main House" not knowing until we arrived that it was the same location. Similar experience with great food, service, and ambiance. On a return visit last week, we needed to kill time before checking into our Airbnb. "Lunch at The Main House" was chosen to fill the void! The BLT and fries were great. And the atmosphere and service continue to deliver. Our server "Joe G" was handling both the dining room and outdoor patio with an efficient friendliness. Many times "tourist" areas don't have the best dining options. That's not the case in St. Charles. We were here for a birthday party in the party room downstairs so I don't have any dining room or menu pictures to post but the experience downtown was exceptional. The room coil comfortably seat up to 50 with no problem. There is a bar, dartboards and restrooms located on this level and tables for food . This was such a lovely experience! I was invited to here with a group of friends during the Pumpkin Glow, and it was a definite no brainer for me. Halloween vibes and a new to me place? Count me in! My friend made a reservation for us at 5pm. We parked in the parking areas behind the spots on Main Street near the river. It was a short walk to the restaurant, which was great! We got to soak in all the views and cute shops. We were seated immediately, and I ordered a glass of wine. They have some great cocktails, but definitely went for the wine. It was also served in an amazing, high quality glass. Which, in my opinion, makes the experience of wine even better. I know I can't be the only one :) Our group ordered several apps, including tzatziki, wings, deviled eggs, and the cream cheese dip. All were fantastic, my favorite was the cream cheese dip with the spicy compote on top. I also loved their pita chips! They're fried to be crispy and flavorful. Healthy? No. Delicious and worth it? Yes. For dinner I had the caesar salad with chicken. The dressing was fresh and delicious, and I was able to order the chicken blackened (my favorite). The French onion soup is really good, the deviled eggs are pretty good. My wife's pasta broccoli was not good, they apparently don't cook the Brussels sprouts prior to mixing them into the pasta. My burger came out cold and not good flavor, the fries were cold (caveat my wife has a gluten allergy so her meal took longer to prepare) but the fires did have good flavor. Really good old fashioned, and Natalia (waitress) was very nice and apologetic, but all in all first experience was definitely not a good one. And for the price I would expect better. We went to the Main House for the first time last night and it was great. Found out they've been open for a couple years. The ambience/decor was casual fine dining. Our waiter JP was friendly and attentive. We had the blackened chicken Alfredo, two of us had filets, and another had the pork chop. All were cooked and flavored perfectly. The mashed potatoes were amazing. We each had a salad which were a little heavy on the dressing but very good. I also shared a pistachio white chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. We were greeted by a most friendly staff and our party was given a brief history of the building and the restaurant by our server and a gentleman who seemed to be a manager. I ordered the filet medallions and they were cooked perfectly medium rare as I had ordered them. All the sides were delicious. Excellent drinks from the bar. We recently had a delicious dinner at The Main House in St. Charles. The staff were young, but very professional. If you enjoy casual dining in a historic setting, this is a great choice! We opted to be seated indoors because of the heat, and thought the dining room had a comfortable, clean and unique appeal. The wedge salad was scrumptious! I also recommended the beef medallions. The food was amazing! We waited for them to open at 11:00 am on a Sunday and ordered from the brunch menu. We were greeted immediately and promptly seated. I got a pineapple mimosa and my husband ordered a Bloody Mary (his favorite). He ordered the cinnamon roll BBQ sandwich which he described as "interesting" (I thought it was pretty good) and I opted for French Toast with a side of bacon. Outside of Little Dizzy's in NOLA, that was the best French Toast ever! My husband and I ate brunch here and the service was great and everyone was so accommodating. The food was delicious and hot. The patio is so intimate and quaint. There was a nice breeze and the flowers were smelling so good. We decided to book a date for a party of 10 to return after hosting a couples shower for my daughter. We sat a large oak table. Our wait staff was very knowledgeable with all the cocktails and the menu and the special of the day. The inside of the restaurant is just as intimate as outdoors. It is cozy enough for a date night and fun for a party like ours. All of our dishes were served piping hot and delicious, rave reviews were given from friends from out of town. I had a negroni, which was delicious and the campari was mixed equally well. I also had the mushroom risotto, which was creamy, tender and decadent. Every mouth full was heavenly. The bartender, Clayton, was very friendly and made some great cocktails. After we were seated for supper we were greeted by our server, Lisset, who was also very accommodating and friendly. Stopped here during the Christmas traditions celebration on Main Street. We came on a Friday night and sat outside by one of the heaters and it was perfect! The hostess seated us and it took about 10 minutes after seating for someone to come out and greet us. After the wait at first our server came around more frequently to check in so that was nice. The drinks all sounded good and they had some holiday drinks. I got a house red wine and my husband got beer. For food I got the French onion soup. It was the perfect amount since I wasn't that hungry and it was one of the better French onion soups I've had. My husband got the burger and he said it was good. The pan roasted chicken was amazing! Very tender. Almost tasted like they used a sous vide to cook it first. The seasoning and spices were on point too. Service was pretty good as well and great ambiance inside. The only reason why this isn't 5/5 stars is due to a couple small things that could be improved upon. One of our plates came out with giant wipe marks on it where you could tell they tried to wipe whatever spilled on the rim except they didn't do a thorough job of wiping so it left these little rings which was kind of gross honestly. Server didn't tell us her name (though it was very busy.) Minor details like that separate this place from being 4 to 5 stars IMHO. The other thing that kind of grossed me out was how much butter they put on literally everything. More butter doesn't automatically = better food. I'm lucky I remembered to bring my digestive enzymes with me or I would have definitely had an IBS attack. When I got home, my stomach was very upset though and it was a rough evening, I'll just leave it at that. The macaroni and cheese (which I was extremely excited to try) was the worst offender. I decided to get a half portion only which isn't on the menu but they can certainly do that for you if you ask. It was still way too much food so I decided to bring half home. The next day I went to heat some up for lunch and well... It was literally just some noodles floating in a puddle of butter. I uploaded a photo so it's clear what I mean. Hardly any cheese, mostly butter. I think if they reduced the butter or used a better emulsifier, it wouldn't be an issue. Even when I was eating it in the restaurant the evening it was prepared, it was still oozing butter. I would probably come back here again to try other things but the extreme butter is a bit off putting. Also wish they had some non alcoholic wine options (such as Goodvines, Rondel, Bloom, etc.) but they do get bonus points for actually having an NA beer that isn't godawful Bud Zero!! read more
