This 5 star review is for Tori who came from another location to assist with the reopening of the iIrvine spectrum location. We had some issues with cold Tomato soup and fries and asked a staff member to replace them We continued eating our sandwiches but no one ever came back with the fries and soup. My husband went back to find out what happened and Tori overheard the conversation She immediately came to our table to find out the situation and showed her concern. She made sure to rectify the situation. After the second round of soup was still cold, Tori went in the back and brought it out herself and it was hot and fresh Tori handled the situation with genuine care as if it was her own restaurant. My husband and I were shopping and we saw the melt! I love grilled cheese! They are my weakness...we walked in and we're greeted immediately....my husband got the garlic Mac and cheese. I got the Mac and cheese grilled sandwich with a strawberry lemonade! I bit into the sandwich and it was plain. The noodles didn't really have any flavor to them and then there was another slice of cheddar cheese on top then they grilled the sandwich. I was a little disappointed! I love the queso de mayo, which has avocado, bacon, jalapeños, and lots of cheese. I had to dock stars off though because they give out plastic water cups. I had to skip water during my meal because of this. Service is fine and I like how they have iPads that you can order from. Food typically comes slow, maybe 15+ mins for one sandwich. Ideally, a place like this wants to combine a reasonable price with a novel idea that's cute and draws the business lunch crowd as well as hits it off with "millennials". This place did the opposite: it's an OK idea, with a sub-par presentation and bad service, and it's overpriced. So... basically the opposite of that cool hip joint I want to take my friends to. After visiting the the melt in sf I decided to go to the one in Irvine since I was in the area. The croutons on the ceasar salad were not good, it tasted stale. The Mac n cheese was okay. Fries were okay. I loved the impossible burgee and grilled cheese could've been cheesier. We left with stomach aches. It's a little heavy and salty but overall okay. Do yourself a favor and don't come here! There are many better establishments to get something to eat at the Spectrum. It is a grilled cheese restaurant, but don't expect to compare it to the Grilled Cheese Truck! My mom and I came in last night and ordered the mac daddy, the classic, and sweet potato fries. After waiting several minutes our buzzer lit up signifying our food was ready. I went to the counter and the two girls both had their backs to me and after a long 30 seconds of not being acknowledged, I just placed the buzzer in the basket and took my food. The grilled cheeses looked pretty good, but they ranked average at best. I got the mac daddy and it was pretty bad. It did have macaroni and bacon inside as promised, but the macaroni inside was cold and seemed to just be plain macaroni. I never send things back at restaurants, but this sandwich was bland and cold inside. No thank you! I took the sandwich back to the counter and asked if I could exchange it for a classic. Robert was helpful and said he would bring the replacement classic out to our table, which he did. He was the main redeeming factor of this visit! The classics were ok, but nothing special are better than I could make at home. The sweet potato fries were good. I loved grilled cheese sandwiches so I frequently order them. I have also visited the Fig at 7th Melt location and wasn't impressed there either. To top off the the below average food experience, the drink station was unkempt and the eating area was kind of dirty. This may be because it was around 8pm and they close at 9. Open during COVID with outside patio seating. The staff were really friendly. Periodically came outside to check on guests to see if we needed anything. We got the patty melt and the Spicy Mission Meltburger with mini Mac and regular fries as our sides. All the food was delicious. Mac isn't super creamy/thick so don't expect that but it was good nonetheless. The beef is really good! We liked the pickled topping on the burger, and as stated on their menu, it's not very spicy. So far I have tried (and highly recommend) their Mac and cheese (just had the one with chicken and bacon-yum!), burgers (either wrapped in lettuce or with a bun) and MALT shakes. My kids love their regular fries and I get the Parmesan fries or sweet potato fries depending on the mood I am in. I spotted someone with a Mac Daddy sandwich (grilled cheese with Mac n cheese and bacon) and plan on trying that next because it looked amazing! Great options for kids. It also helps cut the massive sodium intake too with some tart acidity. I really like the efficiency of their ordering system. They call out initials and you can see it on the order board so you're not left wondering if you're next. You can also use your phone app to order but you show it to them at the counter to scan so your sandwich is made fresh. The soda fountain is pretty cool too. I like the old fashioned handle with the modern buttons. They serve cane sugar sodas here. The salads come with grilled cheese croutons! Our sandwiches were grilled with a nice crisp. The cheese was definitely melted. The short rib was a tiny bit disappointing in terms of flavor but for the price, you can't beat it. I really love grilled cheese and nothing screams comfort food like what they serve here. It's reasonably priced but with add-ons it can get expensive.
