Burger is sooooo good. Great place to DoorDash late night because it's like the only place open! Just good food here

I finished coaching my soccer team at nearby Allen Field, so I came by for a bite. My favorite foods are meat and cheese so a burger specialty place called The Melt seemed right up my alley. Being a little ways from home, lots of local places to try for the first time but this one jumped out at me. I got the Megamelt and a soda. While waiting for my food, I decided to log on to the wi-fi and check my Facebook. To login to their wi-fi, you agree to let them download apps to your device that basically track everything you do in perpetuity, where you are, all the other apps you use and how much, permit them to bomb you with spam mail. I'm not a lawyer, but that just didn't seem like a fair trade-off to me. Not that I NEED wi-fi, but you shouldn't have to give up so much just to use it if a place decides to provide it. I am from Escondido, so the people watching while I waited was interesting. My part of my town is on the "hoity-toity" side, but we get nowhere near the level of self-involved douches and twats you see here, and what we have is balanced by the idiot gangbangers and tweakers trying to panhandle enough for their next gram o' dope. My favorite has to be the early 20's guy in flip-flops with dressy shorts and a really tacky shirt with giant flamingos and banana leaves, halfway buttoned up to show off his scrawny and decidedly unmanly chest. Only in frickin' La Jolla, man! Throw in a pretty large number of moms in designer clothes bringing their spoiled kids for meals they don't appreciate, presumably on their way to buy more stuff they don't need. So the atmosphere..."La Jolla douche" seems like the best description to me! :D Anyway, my little buzzer starts going off for my food. I'm kind of excited because the pictures and descriptions of the food look really great. The Megamelt is advertised as containing 50% more meat and cheese than the regular Melt Burger, which is supposed to be 1/3 pound itself. 50% more is a half-pound. I didn't weigh the thing, but I've had a few half-pound burgers in my day, and this was nowhere even close to being a half-pound! I like that they chop everything up together and mix the meat, onion, pickle, and jalapeño together. The flavor is much better than stacking all of that stuff atop a factory-made burger patty, that's for sure! So it was a good darn burger. However, it ain't no $12 burger and that's what they charged for it. I saw plenty of other burgers and I couldn't see any difference at all between them in terms of the size. It was nice having the artisanal soda, and I liked the Colorado Cola's taste quite a bit, so a good mark on that detail. So back to that "half-pound" burger...that was nowhere near enough to fill me up. Lesson learned, but I can't leave still hungry. So I plopped down another $7 for the 3 Cheese Classic grilled cheese sandwich. The bread was really good, the quality of the cheese and the blend ratio were pretty great and it is really tasty. Again, though, I can't say it was worth $7. Not in a place without table service and with the "modern" open-plan that is designed to make you want to eat your food and go. Overall, the food quality and the flavor were pretty good. I wasn't disappointed with that at all. But $26 for me to eat a filling lunch was not the plan, and if I want to spend that much La Jolla has lots of nice restaurants I would eat in before this one jumps to mind. And that's why I can't give it more than 3 stars. I don't think they earned more than that, and they certainly didn't earn $26 of my hard-working money! If I'm here again in similar circumstances, I won't make this same choice again. Forget that!!!! So that's that. read more

THE MELT! Hands down THE BEST impossible burger in the entire world! Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it's good-I've tried every veggie burger in San Diego county and many taste like crap. The Melt burger has this incredible jalapeño sauce, top notch cheese, all made with love that make this the best burger ever. The mushroom swiss is also yummy. I bring my meat eating co-workers & friends here, order them the impossible and don't tell them. They have no idea until the last bite when I break the news! This place was the best! I came here at 11:30 at night and the food was really good. They have a variety of different things you can get. They have really good melts. Their shakes are fire. I've done walk in orders and curbside pick up. Both of the times, the service was great. Inside everything is COVID conscious - no indoor seating, markers on the floor indicate social distancing. I stumbled upon this place today. I don't live in the area and was looking for something that wasn't a big chain. I have to say, this was hands down the best burger I've had......EVER!! I ordered the bacon cheeseburger , fries and a drink. The fries have some seasoning on them that was so good!! The gentleman that took my order had a great personality and even let me taste the all natural sodas they had at the fountain. Let me just say that blackberry was the bomb! I ordered a bacon cheese burger with lettuce, tomato , cheese and bacon . I got a soggy , greasy bun . No tomatoes , the meat was to raw inside . Now how they managed to come up with this tasteless, bland burger will be a mystery the French fries had some kind of green seasoning on them , I couldn't tell what the green stuff was supposed to be , all I could taste was salt. I have liked their grilled cheeses a lot. Can't go wrong with the Italian job, and today I actually had some red chili flakes on top it was amazing! Sadly this was undercut by another surprise. I like their fries usually and decided to try their garlic Pharm fries. Not what I had hoped in terms of the park- it was just some shredded parm dropped on top. The worst was the huge spoonful of RAW garlic that was put on the fries. Irrespective of what is being made, raw garlic especially in that amount is not the way to do it. I likely will be back eventually since their grilled cheese sandwiches are so good, but I'll likely pass on the fries and it will take some time to get this ga garlic taste and smell to pass. read more

It was cloudy and cold yesterday and HONESTLY it was perfect match. Grilled cheese which is super cheesy (i appreciate the generosity and portions of the sandwich) and i added on tomato soup.. wish there was basil in it though bcos it kinda felt like i was just eating spaghetti sauce. One of the things we've started doing to differentiate "weekends" in the time of COVID is ordering in only on the weekends through Door Dash. It's allowed us the opportunity to explore places we normally don't venture to (thanks to our 2 toddlers). When we came across The Melt, I of course wanted to support a business that was helping healthcare workers :) We've now ordered from the Melt for the past 3 Fridays, and it's always been amazing! I get the Melty Mac and my husband gets the Steak and Cheese and bacon cheddar ranch fries. Unfortunately, tonight my mac wasn't cheesy and came a little burnt. I hesitantly called the restaurant expecting to have to be transferred to a manager. A very pleasant lady picked up the phone and when I explained what happened and asked if I could come pick up a remake, she immediately apologized and told me to come on by and they'd make it right away and make sure it was cheesy! My husband went to pick it up and while he was there, a gentlemen came up and asked him what had happened. My husband explained what happened and that they were remaking it. He then let my husband know that he was a manager and wanted to refund our entire order through Door Dash. When my husband told him there was no need to do that, he insisted and mentioned how important it was to get the wife's food right on a weekend ;) This place represents true hospitality. The person answering the phone was empowered to remake the food, and the manager went above and beyond. My husband also noticed that they were highly focused on cleanliness and sanitizing as they spoke amongst themselves. We will absolutely continue to frequent The Melt, not only because of the yummy food, but also because of the exceptional service and service recovery. read more
