We visited this location on "very hungry" status. Parking was easy as they are located inside a plaza;however I also thought it's due to the time w got there. Which was around 11 pm No wait time. Restaurant is very similar to a chipotle but with a mix of Mediterranean and Mexican food, and flavors are more unique. I recommend you order the baklava and the churros for dessert(I liked the churros better) definitely complement the meal No popular sodas such as coke or Pelai, instead they have a brand that only contains natural ingredients, very similar, taste is sacrificed a bit but it's ok. Five stars for service, taste, quality, and portion size! Since my mom is a recent vegan, we have been having a hard time finding places but I stumbled upon this on Facebook so decided to try it out. The place is similar set up to your typical assembly line quick service (re: chipotle, blaze pizza, etc). It's a very interesting combination of Mexican and Mediterranean. I decided to opt for the half lentils and lentil rice, and half shrimp and half fish as my protein. My mom got the lentils and falafel so she was happy she was able to get a bit of protein instead of just veggies. We ended up putting a lot of difference toppings but one thing that stood out was the cilantro garlic sauce. It was so good! The service was also very attentive and the employees were so helpful. The fish was made fresh, the falafel was made fresh, the roasted veggies were made fresh to order. They really went out of their way for us. I'm so glad I found this on yelp and was able to bookmark it for when I was in the area. This place is legit 5-star all the way. As it was my first time here, the super friendly and patient employee explained to me they're like Chipotle in the sense of how your food is put together. But let me tell you they are 1,000 times better than Chipotle. I made a bowl with the a super delicious lentil/rice base, then the toppings kept coming. I won't bore you with all of them, but they included the barbacoa chicken, lamb kabobs, pickled onions, tabbouleh, harissa, feta, tzatziki, and some pinto beans. The sauce added at the end was this fantastic garlic and something else I couldn't figure out, but delicious. Everything in it was super tasty and I particularly loved the chicken, lamb, and lentil/rice. The bowl was humongous and I couldn't eat but half of it. The quality shines through here, the flavors are complex and developed, and the portions are generous . This is a great bargain for all of those three things. Customer service that rivals the Ritz! The folks at the counter picked up that it was our first time and made some suggestions without being pushy. They even gave us baklava on the house since we had never been there before. This place is like Chipotle where you order or build a dinner at the counter. We happened upon this halal fusion place near our hotel and are so glad we found it! The ingredients were super fresh, and the environment was cute too. My husband appreciated being able to build his own bowl as well. The salsas are probably the most flavorful so get as much as you can. If you don't mix well, your bowl won't be very flavorful at the end. The person working called the chicken tinga spicy, but it's really not. Definitely safe for someone with a low spice tolerance. This place is awesome! My boyfriend and I had been putting off trying this place for almost a year and boy do we regret it, definitely should've come sooner! The gentleman who greeted us was very friendly and helpful with any questions we had, I believe his name was Achmed. We mentioned that we are vegan and he happily informed us of the many vegan options they offer but also informed us we could build our own meal to our heart's desire. The best way I can describe this restaurant and it's cuisine is it's like Mexican and Mediterranean fusion Chipotle BUT much, much better. They offer not only delicious vegetables but vegan mock meat options which I am a huge fan of, with their own flavorful seasonings/marinades. I got the Vegandilla, which was beyond meat quesadilla with a pineapple corn medley and sides of housemade creamy chipotle sauce and green camel sauce. My boyfriend got the shawarma vegan bowl which had I believe yellow rice, lentils, grilled veggies, chickpeas, cucumber salad, pickled veggies and topped with white camel sauce. He also ordered a side of pita to eat with his. We both enjoyed our own meals but ended up swapping halfway through. We decided we wanted to try their churros and when we went to order were pleasantly surprised that Achmed had already placed a complimentary order for us. When it arrived we found that he had also included an order of baklava. Everything was absolutely delicious and especially for the vegan mock meat options, we felt very much worth the price. I have officially found my new lunch spot! *que mouth watering* This Mexican-Mediterranean fusion restaurant sparked my interest last week because I couldn't really imagine how these two cuisines could combine smoothly, but I'm always up for something interesting. My fiancé and I decided to stop in before work today. I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly the staff was and the awesome service we received. So here's the deal: the set up is 'build your own' style. The options are a pita pocket, burrito, bowl or tacos. For the base you can choose lentils or rice (there may be other options but these are the two I noticed). Then you can pick your choice of beans and meats. What I LOVE is that each type of meat (seafood, chicken, beef etc) has two versions- a Mexican and Mediterranean style! I went with Mediterranean Fish and white rice base with black beans and med. veggies. Eric got the lamb kofta kabobs with lentils. We then moved on to an outrageous amount of fresh, delicious toppings and sauces. They are divided between Mexican and Mediterranean, and the mix that I ended up throwing together was SO. YUM. They encourage you to choose from both sides of toppings and I'd have to agree!! I would definitely suggest the harissa and jalapeño sauces. I also loved the fresh cabbage slaw, it really pulled my whole bowl together. The staff was so friendly and took their time to let us know what each topping was and what their favorites were. You could tell by their service that they are passionate about the food they serve. We ended with some heavenly churros and all natural soda. At first I thought the name The Mexican Camel was just a cute name for a restaurant but it honestly perfectly describes the harmonious blend of flavors they were able to create between Mexican and Mediterranean cuisine. I had a rice bowl with white rice, black beans, chicken Barbacoa, mild salsa, corn salsa, lettuce and cheese, topped with cilantro garlic sauce. The setup is almost identical to Chipotle which is awesome because it's familiar and very easy to navigate through the menu. Everything thing is so fresh and tastes as fresh as if it was made as a single portion even though it is off a steam table. I always recommend a rice bowl over a burrito so that you can taste the individual flavors however they have a pita option if you want to create a gyro. They basically have all Mediterranean and Mexican staples you need to make a incredibly flavorful plate. Was in town for a conference and was looking for something near our hotel on I-Drive. Not one to turn down the opportunity to try anybody's lamb or pita, I quickly took the opportunity to head to the Mexican Camel. They've got a great concept with Mexican-Eastern Mediterranean fusion, and the menu reads amazing. Rather than build my own item, I rolled the dice on the lamb pita and an order of falafel. After I made my order, I paid and then got my food quickly but without much of an exchange with any of the staff beyond their asking me what I would like and how much to pay. I was there for a carryout order, so I can't complain about that. However, 5 minutes later when I was back at my hotel lobby ready to eat, I found the lamb was between lukewarm and cold. The flavor was still great, and the rest of the ingredients made the pita much better--not great but better than average. The falafel were OK in terms of flavor but nothing noteworthy. I'm glad I visited and got a chance to try the fusion idea, though others seem to have had a better experience, so maybe it was just an off day. read more
