We had a delicious meal in a really nice place. I thought it was wonderful. Service was great. It was really cool from the hot temperature outside. Service was great.

Lobster ravioli. Husband ordered the 8oz strip. Both amazing.

Food was amazing. Good service and romantic/cozy atmosphere. Great spot for date night and perfect area to walk around on the UWS.

The Milling Room, located on Manhattan's Upper West Side, offers an exceptional dining experience that seamlessly blends rustic charm with modern elegance. The restaurant's open dining area, featuring a soaring skylight, creates an inviting atmosphere that enhances the culinary journey. At the heart of this establishment is Chef Florian V. Hugo, a native of Provence, France, and a direct descendant of the renowned novelist Victor Hugo. I first met Florian at his other Resturant only on its last night for the best taco of my life l was lucky to have his duck tonight. Chef Hugo's personal engagement with us added a touch to the evening. His passion for cooking and dedication to excellence were evident as he discussed the inspiration behind our experience. The menu showcases Chef Hugo's mastery of French culinary techniques, featuring dishes that are both innovative and deeply rooted in tradition. The seared duck breas was cooked to perfection, offering a tender and flavorful experience. Everything was prepared with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients. The beverage program is equally impressive, with a curated selection of wines and cocktails The service was amazingly attentive. The food was spectacular. This is my now go to when in NY period

Wonderful in evening light. Even more romantic when it gets dark.

Delightful ambiance. Tables have some distance between them so not as loud as other places. A peaceful overall feeling. Excellent service from all who waited on us. Absolutely tasty food: appetizer, salad, fish entree, bread, desserts. A completely enjoyable experience in every way.

Vibe: 8/10 - very cute and quiet; loved the skylight Service: 8.5/10 Value: 3.5/10 - pretty pricey, even for NYC! Brussels spouts: 7.5/10 Potato purée: 7/10 Duck breast: 7.5/10 Pork chop: 6/10 Overall: 6.86/10 (3.43/5) [To clarify our review system: 10 = we'll never have anything else as good as this in our lives (we use 10 very sparingly!) 9 = extraordinary 8 = great 7 = above average 6 = average Anything below 6 is being critical]

We had an amazing experience at The Milling Room. The restaurant is gorgeous! The main dining room is a large room that is bathed in light with the help from skylights. We arrive early to the UWS. Once we checked in at the host stand, we were directed toward the bar. I ordered a scotch, I'm guessing Lagavulin? I ordered it neat and it was smokey, nice starter. We took our drinks and were escorted to the main dining room. We started with a delicious cheese board. The cheese that was chosen was high end, I loved the blue cheese! The roasted beet starter was also a great choice, the beets were sweet, I could eat just this dish and be happy. I ordered the Squid Ink Linguine, another solid dish. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the squid ink pasta has a briny - salty note and the fish made this a treat that was fun to eat. I highly recommend The Milling Room, its a beautiful space with terrific food

The space is gorgeous, I'll give them that. But it was close to sweltering during our visit, where the exposed windows made it feel even warmer inside. Brunch menu consists of various Benedicts and not enough non-egg items. My lox was really great, and the fries were hot and seasoned well. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service was lovely, and I'd consider returning if the temperature is figured out.

I've laterally gone here for birthdays the last 3 years. The service is always soo good. I remember we had a 9:45pm resv. and were literally the last ones to leave , the staff were so patient and went right along with it, made sure I enjoyed my night. That's rare! The food is always yum! I mean it must be the reason I keep going back. The ambiance is beautiful. And I've been here about two times when it's rained and it's amazing sitting under that skylight. Snowing is on my list.. overall, I'm impressed with everything and I will continue to return.

Another 5 star experience! Great decor, food, service, and atmosphere. When you enter the main dinning room you feel like you are watching a movie shot in Manhattan. Warm, sophisticated and our server Kyle was great. Very caring, no time limits here at all. It was a great night with friends and everything went right. We ordered a few appetizers including the beet salad, Burrata salad, the salmon tartare and the risotto. The risotto was so good we ordered one as a side for the table to share. For main courses we had the Squid Ink Linguini with shrimp, the halibut, the Chatham codfish. For desert had the apple tart. Spent about 2 1/2 relaxed non rushed hours here. Great menu, wine and beer and drink selection, great bar. The staff were really awesome and it was a great night. I highly recommend them.

The Milling Room is such a lovely restaurant in UWS. I love the beautiful, open, spacious dining area. I came for brunch with a friend and we had a very comfortable dining experience, with their large tables spaced out nicely and high ceilings. At many other restaurants in the city, tables are right next to each other, so we really liked how the tables were spread out and we could enjoy a conversation without having to yell over other voices. I ordered the Creamy Risotto ($21+), with asparagus, English peas, fava beans and parmigiano. It had a poached egg on top, which was nice. The dish itself was a bit bland, though. I would recommend asking for extra parmesan. I would love to make this one of my go-to brunch spots, but will need to find a dish I really like.

Cocktails and Brunch always make me happy. The Milling Room did not Disappoint. It's beautiful inside. The menu options were hard to choose from. The cocktails were different and fun. Custom flavored ice cubes made them extra! Service was on point. Loved the vibe of this restaurant!

Wanted to try something new on UWS. From The outside, it doesn't appear esthetic but from the inside it's airy and has a beautiful, relaxing esthetic. We ordered: Beet salad: 4/5...the goat cheese was overpowering with the beets in my opinion Salmon tar tar: 3.5/5.... Good but a little too acidic in my taste Pan seared cod: 4/5 perfect flaky texture but was lacking seasoning Brussel sprouts: 5/5 super tasty Server was knowledgeable and professional. Prompt service. I would definitely return and try more dishes

Is there dining downstairs at the bar?

Its all on one floor, and yes, there is a seperate bar with seating. However this place has fallen flat and I would not recommend it. Consider Tasca, its right up the street and really amazing food.

Are the Happy Hour cocktail and wine prices available at tables too?

No. HH only available at the bar or the tables in The Tavern.

Ok at dinner time for babies/kids?

Not really a great idea for babies and young children.

How is the parking in the neighborhood?

It's the Upper West Side of Manhattan which means street parking on Columbus or on the side streets is hit or miss. There are commercial parking garages in the area if you realty want to or need to drive but it's also really close to the 81st Street… Read more

Paper plates, plastic cutlery and pita chips warmed and served in the bags they came in. 2. Service - non-existent. No staff members acknowledge your arrival. You either have to wave madly or go to the bar and ask for a drink. The staff is always closing early with the staff excuse that "we are not busy" yet guests are routinely turned away. The staff is not happy and begrudge being there. DO NOT believe in the hours posted on the website. There is a built-in clientele but the staff can't wait to close it down. I don't know what is wrong with management but they have lost the plot. 3. Ambience - The space could be so much better than it is. The lighting is okay but the seating in the bar area is not appropriate. The adjoining cafe has a better feeling. Ambience has a lot to do with making guests feel welcome - this staff doesn't understand the meaning of hospitality but they should not be blamed. It is clear they have no training and are not held to any standard. If you want to go to a great space, go to the Wallace Hotel around the corner (I am NOT affiliated with them... have just gone there many times). It is so sad to see a place with such potential be so poorly run, especially as they have such little competition. The Arthouse Bar has the potential to be THE leading cocktail/music/late-night bar on the Upper West Side.
