Needed a quick pick-me-up and had a sweet tooth. First time trying mochi donuts since I missed the craze when it first started trending. This shop offered donut hole mochi balls in different flavors, mochi donuts, and a mochi donut and hole deal ($5). I opted for the latter and tried the matcha mochi donut and sesame mochi donut hole. I'd say of the two, the hole had a bouncier mochi chew which is my preference compared to the donut. Both were kinda oily. This place has potential but their donut oil needs to be donut only and changed out more frequently. The oil flavor is overwhelmingly stale and the donuts are saturated in it, disgusting. I was drawn to The Mochi Donut Shop after seeing that they offered daifuku mochi and Thai-style coconut pandan layer cakes (both of which are among my favorite desserts). Unfortunately, both the mochi and layer cakes weren't very good :( The mochi skin on both mochis (red bean and ube) were dry and tough, especially the ube filled one. The strawberries inside were starting to turn mushy and were fizzy when I bit into them, indicating that the strawberries had began to ferment. The dry mochi skin and the mushy strawberries leads me to believe that they were not made fresh that day. The overall ratio of mochi skin to filling was off: the mochi skin and fillings on both mochis were too thick, overpowering the strawberry inside. As for the flavor of the mochi itself, it strangely tasted overly doughy and starchy. The coconut pandan layer cakes looked beautiful, but they were also dry and starting to turn hard/stale. The pandan and coconut flavors were solid though. On the bright side, the service was good, so maybe I'll come again and try their mochi donuts instead. read more

The Fam and I ordered two dozen mochi donuts from the Mochi Donut Shop in the Outer Sunset via DoorDash for my cousin's surprise birthday party. Because we got them delivered and ordered via DD, we didn't get to choose the flavors. That was fine because they all tasted wonderful. They were an absolute hit! The donuts were super chewy on the inside, with a perfect balance of texture and sweetness. They weren't stale at all, like some of their competitor mochi donut makers we've tried over the years. The Little One liked the pink one, which she called "strawberry." Not entirely sure that's accurate. We tried the mango flavor, and with the dried mango topping, it was a dead giveaway, and nice touch! My aunts even tried to stash some away for late. They're hilarious! By the end of the party, the donuts were completely wiped out. We didn't get to take any home, but honestly, it's just an excuse to come back for more! Based on the yelp photos the shop seems to be partnered with or part of Mochi Nut, Orbit coffee, and they seem to serve Korean style corn dogs. Not sure what their exact relation is. Jet To is the nicest lady I've ever met. She always has a smile on her face despite being by herself in the front. The corn dog tasted very good and she even let us sit in her store even though we got food from other stores as well. We decided to go back 10 min later and got wings and a s'mores donut. She even gave us free stuff to try which also tasted really good and makes everything in house fresh daily. Amazing lady and very kind. The place is also very aesthetic and the music is very calming. Korean corn dogs are typically beef hotdogs (or a mozzarella stick) battered in a yeasted dough or a rice flour batter with additional seasoned toppings. Toppings include: panko, potato, hot cheetos, and ramen. Corn dogs were made to order. There were eight donut flavors, including chocolate, fruit pebbles, funnel cake, strawberry, churro, coffee, and plain. This is fun food! On the plus side, their red boxes for to-go donuts were absolutely adorable. Donuts were made ahead, but are still (relatively) fresh. My favorite place for Korean corn dogs and a top spot for mochi donuts!!! Ambiance: Very cute place with an aesthetic neon sign wall and popular music playing. They have Korean corn dogs, mochi donuts, boba drinks, and a fried chicken place right next to it. Service: I've been here a few times and the service never misses! Everyone I've talked to is so genuinely friendly. The corn dogs take a couple of minutes but the breading is so crisp and hot when you eat it so you know it's freshly made! Food: When I came here yesterday I got the dark chocolate, matcha, and mango donuts. The dark chocolate frosting is delectable and sweet. I like how the frosting is thick but doesn't overpower the donut. I just had the matcha today and it mostly held up. Frosting was good but the dough is a bit moist. I'm assuming because of the mochi texture. I can't wait to try the mango one! For corn dogs, I ordered #5 Potato with half cheese and half hot dog and #9 Hot Cheeto with cheese. These are my go-to. They are quite big so I think you can get full from one but I can never choose just one haha. The Hot Cheeto with cheese is the cheesiest indulgence and I like how the potato pairs with the hot dog. It can be dry so dipping it in ketchup helps. My cousin enjoyed her potato corn dog with hot dog, mochi donuts, and ube boba drink as well. The sign says "The Mochi Donut Shop" but it's called "Mochinut" everywhere else. Go figure. Anyway mochi donuts and I go back a ways when I first stopped at a Mister Donut cafe in the Ginza (review: https://bit.ly/3LW0AKN). This particular kind is called "Pon de Ring", and they were sold everywhere in Japan. Back then, I thought they were overly sweet with various frostings and pretty chewy from the mochi inside. Time has obviously mellowed my taste buds because thanks to places like Mochill Mochi Donut in the Japan Center, I started developing a fondness for them (review: https://bit.ly/3kPCF3V). Now there's another mochi donut shop, this one on Irving past 23rd Ave in the midst of all the mostly Asian eateries in the area. The location made sense because Asians are the ones most drawn to sweetened mochi. Besides, Japanese mochi sweets shops are a dying breed with J-Town's Benkyodo the latest casualty. Donuts are definitely the way to go stateside. They have a pretty standard selection at this shop, and their idea of a deal was three for $9. I was going to buy just one, but I was pushed to get three. I still have the fingerprints on my back. Good and just 70 calories each if their website is to be believed. This place has pretty good mochi donuts, but on our most recent visit there were some problems with our Korean hot dog order. We do like the donuts, and each time there's a slightly different selection so there's always a bit of anticipation upon entering. They are pricey though - $3 each the last time we were here, with small discounts with larger orders. These are satisfyingly chewy and sweet, so I can't complain about that. On our most recent visit we were hungry for a late lunch after hiking up in Muir Woods. We placed our order and then waited for what seemed to be an inordinately long time for the food to be ready. When they came out, we couldn't differentiate among them, and asked for assistance from the folks behind counter. Once it was all deciphered, it was clear that they had made a mistake on two of them. When I pointed it out, their initial response was whether we still wanted the hot dogs. Well, um, yes, we would like some hot dogs, but we'd like the ones that we actually want. They seemed to be a little annoyed by this "special request" but did the right thing and remade our order. Of course, this entailed another lengthy wait. But I'll acknowledge that these were pretty tasty hot dogs, and in the end we were happy with our meal. Added bonus about this place: there's a Krispy Krunchy chicken in the same place. I don't think it's affiliated with the Mochi Donut Shop, but is actually part of the seafood store next door. I was searching high and low for a place to treat some of my coworkers and I wanted something that was new, fun, different. Mochinut seemed to check all the boxes of unique, sweet, savory and of course BOBA. They offer mochi donuts with multiple flavaflavs, korean corn dogs with different flavaflav concoctions and milk teas! Treats indeed! I went ahead and preordered a bunch of goodies through doordash to be delivered to my office in Potrero Hill. A box of variety pack donuts, 6+ corn dogs with potato, ramen and cheeto crust and their milk teas (thai tea, brown sugar, coffee, and the classic milk tea). Despite the long trek from across the city, everything was packaged nicely and arrived unscathed. The boba drinks were sealed in plastic cans, the korean corn dogs were well secured in their box and the mochi donuts weren't squished. I displayed everything appropriately, snapped my photos and my coworkers walked into the room and gazed in awe. Yeeee, it was a success. None of my coworkers had hear of this place and they never really had a korean corn dog before, so I was excited for them to try it out. The hot cheetos corn dog was delicious and satisfying. It was crunchy and well coated in the cheetos dust. It was helllaella bomb y'all. Its a must try. I was able to sample all of the corn dogs and they know who to do it right. Not too much batter and it was cooked on point. My second fave was the potato crust, followed by the ramen dog. I was able to snag the brown sugar boba can and it was delishness. It was milky and brown sugary and the boba balls were on point. My coworker who had the thai tea said it was pretty good and better than boba guys! The mochi donuts were 'aight', not the best I've had and I was sad I couldn't choose the flavaflavs. They put in flavors that I didn't care too much about like strawberry, funnel cake and the cinnamon sugar. The corn dogs went faster than the donuts I'll tell you that! Overall, Mochinut was a winner for my team. They loved the corn dogs and the boba. Some of them even wanted to keep their boba cans because it was new, fun, different. The items were reasonably priced for the city. Corn dogs ranged from $4.5 to 6.5, milk tea $5 including boba and mochi donuts 3pc for $9. My suggestion is that they add in some fruity teas in the future and better mochi donut flavaflavs. I'd definitely come here again, in person. Or maybe to one of their other locations. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile, so I went here over the weekend on Saturday around 3:20pm recently and there was no wait. When I arrived, I noticed there weren't a lot of flavors to choose from under the glass case and most donuts were already gone. I was a little bummed about that. The menu here says you can order either a box of 3, 6 or, 12 donuts. Now, I knew I didn't want a box of donuts, so I asked them if I can only order 1 donut. I ended up choosing the Funnel Cake flavored mochi donut. I was a little worried it would be too sweet for me since I usually don't like donuts with syrup, BUT this donut wasn't too sweet! I really enjoyed it and the donut had a slight crisp to it. It reminded me of the syrup used for strawberry pancakes. I'd recommend this place! Most mochi donut places I've been to have been too sweet for me, but this one wasn't. I liked how the donut has a slight crisp to it, which is different. Came on a Saturday around 5pm. They were running low on mochi donuts, so I waited for a variety box of 12 fresh donuts. Just paid ahead of time and came back around 10-15 minutes for when the donuts were said to be done. The variety box had that days flavors of original, churro, matcha, funnel cake, chocolate, fruity pebbles, and guava. For most of the donuts, I thought they were on the sweeter side. I wish the matcha and guava flavors were stronger in the respective donuts. My favorite was the chocolate, not too sweet. Churro and original were okay. The fruit pebbles was just a regular glaze with cereal. I didn't think it was mind blowing. The donuts were so good fresh. It was still so crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside. After work Friday night, I was picking up an order at a nearby restaurant, and I was surprised to see that Mochinut SF appeared to be open. As I passed by, I was offered a sample and got to try out the Churro flavor. It was hot and freshly covered in cinnamon and sugar. I didn't really need that kind of sweetness so late in the day, but I was so happy to be at the right place, at the right time. It was great to try the Mochinut. I really liked that it was not too sweet! Also, I would have thought mochi to be a bit dense but the Mochinut was pleasantly fluffy, warm, and chewy. I will be back for more. The owners are really nice and they're working hard to get things ready for the opening, Friday, October 15th. Parking will be hard to find I'm sure, so be patient and let the Mochinut be your reward! Not sure yet how they're going to fill the orders, but if there's a bit of a wait after the purchase, check out the nearby restaurants and markets! There's so many good places on the same block and in the surrounding area that are walking distance. read more

Their Mochi is really good. However, their corn dogs are really really bad. The dough on it is extremely thick it's nearly two inches of dough on top of the sausage, I could barely eat it I had to just throw the batter out and eat the sausage because just eating the fried batter tasted bad. While introducing the in-laws to the Sunset district for the first time over the weekend, we walked by The Mochi Donut Shop. So we decided to give this place a try for our collective first time. I'm not sure if they just don't stock a lot of options and flavors in general, or if we just came during a busy time and they were mostly tapped out, but there was only less than a handful of mochi donut flavors to choose from in the middle of the day. We opted to try one of each of the 3 flavors left (ube, matcha white choco, and dark chocolate), for $9. The mochi donuts were really delicious, very fluffy, and with just the right level of sweetness. The box it comes in is very aesthetically pleasing, and would make a great presentation box if you are buying some donuts to give to friends or family. The inside is very clean, and shared with a fried chicken shop on the other half of the store. There is a bench for sitting, as well as a nice backdrop for some great IG snapshots. read more
