The donuts here are pretty much inedible. Once you walk into the store, you're hit with strong fry oil smell. Their donuts were soggy, greasy, and tasted like frying oil. While the fruit flavors were too runny and possibly made the donut soggy. I don't remember the donuts texture being soggy and tasting like fry oil. I've had the mochi donuts here, and they are soooo good. Would definitely recommend them! I did, however, recently try the soft serve and was less than impressed. The soft serve was a bit ice-crystal-y and the toppings (ube syrup and flakes) just did not mix well with it. Definitely stick to just the donuts here. read more

Saw the menu walking by and decided to go in. There wasn't anyone in there but I'd like to say come in!! Great service and wonderful dessert. I looked at the reviews after I checked in and honestly I was so surprised a lot of it was based on customer service. The service I got was 10/10, sooo sweet and attentive. I didn't catch her name but whoever was working with glasses and black hair thank you for answering all my questions and giving recommendations. I would totally come back to try the other donuts. Came by around 2pm on a Saturday and the place was completely empty. They had a ton of mochi waffle and donut options, which was nice! We tried the ube and chocolate chip waffles, plus the pumpkin spice and fruity pebbles mochi donut that were all really good. The flavors were on point, and I loved the chewy texture. First time at Mochill Mochi Donut was at the Stonestown Mall location on Sunday, February 25, 2024. Truth be told, while sitting next door at Quickly, deciding on a boba drink to order, I saw Mochill's sign, advertising their Blueberry Matcha. That was it, I was immediately sold and I walked over to Mochill Mochi Donut to get a beverage from here instead. I arrived at 2:25 PM to a clean and tidy tiny store. No seating offered, unfortunately. There were just a few customers inside, so the wait was almost non-existent. Being that it was my first visit, I had several questions. But let's be real here - even if it was my 100th visit, I would likely still have had an inquiry or two because I'm just super inquisitive. No worries, though - the staff was very friendly, informative, and helpful. They recommended that I order my drink with their creamiest milk alternative, oat milk, at no extra charge. Sold again! My Blueberry Matcha Latte with oat milk was delicious. All of my favourites combined in a single refreshment, I knew that I was in for a treat. The fruit flavour really came through the creamy green tea. What a winner of a drink, it's now my official favourite matcha drink. I will definitely return. I've gotta try one of their Donuts and Cupcakes, too! read more

My kids love mochi, and I haven't tried mochi donuts until today. They had a bunch of seasonal ones to try it was hard to choose which I would go with. I went with Chocolate. First time here and will be my last. Came in and there were 2 staff members talking to each other. No other customers in the store except me. Not one of them acknowledge me. I had to grab their attention to order. When the male staff member came to help me, his attitude was bad. He acts like I am inconveniencing him. I've been a big fan of Mochill ever since they opened up their first location in Japantown. I haven't been to Stonestown in a long time and didn't realize they had opened up here as well, so I was excited when I walked by and saw their store. I came Friday afternoon around 5 pm and it wasn't that busy, just 2 folks ahead of me in line. It's takeout only, but they have a nice space you can walk into. Looks like they've expanded their menu so you can get mochi crepes and matcha drinks here in addition to the mochi donuts. I kept it simple and got two mochi donuts to go, the strawberry crunch ($3.60) and the cookies n cream ($3.30). I ate them a couple hours later after dinner. Both were good and had the nice chewy texture I expect from mochi donuts, but I wish the crumbles on top were a bit crunchier. My friends and I all enjoyed them and thought they made for a good post-dinner dessert. read more

yummy donuts!! Not super american sweet artificially, but more of an asian mild sweet! My go to is strawberry and black sesame. I never tried matcha here because i dont like matcha. The parfaits are great and the wafer is extremely sweet. It looks deceivingly small but its a lot in portion and super dense. Service is extremely fast !! I usually enjoy all the different flavors of their mochi donuts so I definitely wanted to try a crepe. Got the strawberry banana chocolate sauce cream crepe. Wait was about 10-15 minutes which wasn't bad. The crepe itself was nice and the glutinous rice in the crepe batter made it much harder to tear so there were no crispy edges unfortunately. I personally think the ratio of cream to crepe was off. There was a lot of cream (think canned whip) and I did feel a little queasy when I got home from consuming so much cream in one sitting. Flavor wise I don't think you can go wrong with strawberry, bananas, and chocolate. In terms of mochi donuts, you can't go wrong picking matcha and glazed. read more

They must be doing well because I just found out they have five locations now. Predictably they appear to be in places that are complete magnets for the Asian population because presumably mochi is like crack to us. More than once, I've been to their original location in Japan Center where they have a tiny space next to the takoyaki shop (review: https://bit.ly/3kPCF3V). This particular shop was bigger, though I wasn't sure bigger meant better. The wall of mochi donuts gave it a surreal Willy Wonka vibe, but let's just say it didn't make me break out in song with "Pure Imagination". I was just dumbstruck by the multitude of flavors displayed in flat boxes on multiple shelves. The multi-bulbous shape of the donut is Japanese in origin. It's called a 'pon de ring' over there, and they're gobbled up at Japan's most popular donut chain, Mister Donut (review: https://bit.ly/2UESiOQ). I was with my pal Carlos, and we decided to split three of them and surprisingly not the safer choices like chocolate and matcha. No, we went for the $2.80 Mango which we found too gooey and sweet to satisfy with the icing still quite wet. The $2.80 Cookies N Cream held up better since the crumbs were pulverized to a drier finish, and the $2.50 Glazed was a no-frills bite comparable to its American raised donut cousin. Now that the novelty mochi donut hype has died down, I see this as an average donut shop. My little one loves donuts so we end up coming here every few months. The air and smell inside is awful. I feel so bad for the people that work there, is it even safe for them to breathe that all day?? The interior is cute, the donuts don't always look that fresh, and the fried oil smell is just unforgivable. Assortment of fun colors and glazes Hmm, didn't notice Mochill the last time I was here in Stonestown Galleria. Apparently, it's been that long ago since I was here. This store opened in September 2021. We used to get them in Japantown and there's always a line. We did a quick stop at the mall to bring some treats home. Fast and easy, there was no line and I was able to choose my donuts quickly. The donuts were neatly stacked and the trays were clearly marked by the flavors of the week including their prices. Some flavors were priced slightly higher than others. I mixed and matched with the following flavors: (3) Cookies N' Cream Donut, (2) Dark Chocolate Donut, and (1) Black Sesame Donut. That Black Sesame was mine. The donut was chewy and moderately sweet. It had flavors of toasted black sesame and the texture of mochi. Now that I know that there's a Mochi donut store in the Stonestown shopping center this makes it convenient not having to go and look for parking in Japantown which can be challenging sometimes. SO good! I am really glad the Quickly next door was sold out of mochi waffles, so we came next door to Mochill where they also have them. The guy behind the counter offered to warm the waffles up for us which was much appreciated! I also tried the matcha donut which was amazing but then the taro waffle was just UNREAL. I can't understand why this place is always empty but I sure hope it stays in business because I want to come there every time we're at the mall. Not as fresh as Japantown... maybe it's the time of day when I visited but honestly I was disappointed biting into my donuts. You can look at my donut photo. I bought a box of six and upon opening the box at home, they looked like they've been sitting out for a while. After reading some of the reviews on here, I tried microwaving for 10 seconds and it did help a bit. I bought two black sesame, one taro, one matcha, one dark chocolate Oreo, and one strawberry. $15 for 6 and $30 for 12! If you buy one I think it costs $2.80 or $2.60 depending on the flavor you get. The fancier the flavor, I think it usually is $2.80 each. The good thing about these Mochi donuts is that it's not too sweet. The variety of flavors is also unique and very creative. I have yet to try the hot Cheeto flavored Mochi donut! The downside is that the donut didn't seem as fresh. Luckily there was no line when I came on a Monday afternoon. The next time I visit I'll be sure to ask for a fresh one with piping hot glaze!!! read more

I've tried Mochill's other locations and generally like mochi donuts although they aren't my favorite way to consume mochi - I prefer non-fried butter mochi or just plain steamed mochi! This location did not make me want to try the donuts--immediately upon walking into the store there was such an old fryer oil smell. Indeed there was an employee freshly frying the donuts behind the glass counter but the donuts looked VERY oily and not being drained of oil when coming out of the fryer. They do have a selection of mochi muffins but they aren't great either--they have kind of a spongey texture and the icing on top is too thick. Highly recommend Third Culture's mochi muffin if you're looking to try one. This review however is focused on the drink. They have premade jelly "latte" drinks--coffee, black tea, and matcha. I opted for the black tea. All they do is pour 2% milk to fill the cup and add whipped cream on top of the cups of jelly on the grab & go display case. The jelly had no flavor at all. Not even a generic sweet grass jelly flavor let alone tea flavor. It just felt like sucking up crushed plain gelatin through a boba straw, with an overwhelming flavor of dairy milk rather than the jelly. I would skip this for almost $7 and rather opt for one of the countless boba options Stonestown Galleria has to offer. Two stars because there was no line and service was very quick on a weekend afternoon, but the drink alone was 1 star unfortunately. read more

Glutinous chewy mochi is one of my favorite textures in dessert, so I already knew I would like these mochi donuts. I frequent the the Japantown location because the donuts are always freshly made. The only thing that really caught me off guard at this new Stonestown location was the insane smell of the donuts frying in the oil. The strong oil smell completely engulfs the inside of the store & permeates out into the mall. I honestly found it pretty hard to breathe inside the store to the point that I started coughing. The smell is probably the only thing that would deter me from coming back, because it left an oil stench on my clothes & on my mask. I am also sensitive to strong smells so do keep this in mind! The actual donuts tasted just as I expected, but they also smelled heavily of oil too. The donuts had a nice bouncy chew and I love the shape because it's satisfying to bite off each ball as I make my way around the donut. I did notice that the frosting was poorly dipped on the matcha donut because it seemed the frosting was too thick or cooled at the time of dipping, so it didn't leave a smooth surface. I'm still grateful to have a new mochi donut in the neighborhood, but I would probably have someone else to pick them up for me next time to avoid the oil smell LOL! read more

Whenever we're in J-Town, we pick up Mochill Mochi Donuts so we were exited to see that they had a location at Stonestown during our visit. Unfortunately, we didn't like them. First, the guy in front of us purchased a glazed donut, and the cashier picked one up whose glaze hadn't even settled and made a gooey mess in his box. Not a good sign... We were still excited to purchase half a dozen and decided to take a nibble in the car, but we were so disappointed. I had a matcha donut, and it was m greasy and tasted like old frying oil. Oil was all over my fingers. My daughter had the glazed donut, and the glaze was overly sweet in addition to the excessive oily taste. We probably won't return here again, but we this won't stop us from going back to the Japantown location! They are not made to orderbso subsequently by tye tine you get them home they have the taste and texture of Old Wheaties cereal. The coffee jelly drink had way too much milk and cream and they tried to make it unto a drink except that the coffee is solid on the bottom and almost impossible to break up all of it with that lame cardboard straw. Super fresh mochi donuts. I'm not a fan of mochi donuts anymore. I was before, but I guess it comes with age. Oh yes, no surprise here. Adulting is hard. Your body starts to take a toll from those careless mindless eating and drinking all nighters of your younger days. Anyhoo, I think I'm taking myself too seriously over donuts. Lol. So here's my attempt at being objective for this review. The donuts are obviously chewy. What I liked about Mochill is that the donuts are not overly sweet. I like the contrast of sweet, yet tangy flavor of the fruity ones. The fried dough itself is very fresh and not one bit oily. It's so fresh that I think I'll love it plain or the Kinako maybe. The display window looks amazing. Anyone passing by the first time would want to take a closer look and pick up a box of the perfectly glossy glazed mochi donuts.
