The ceiling fan over the coffee bar area has about 3 inches of dirt and dust on it. Last week we mentioned it to one of the workers and yesterday when we were there it had still not been taken care of. Really bad for being a food buisness especially with all the exposed breads out and open food. Finally called and complained to the manager and told they would take care of it tonight after closing...just not good business, especially for being in such a high class area as St. Helena. read more

First, the English muffins are the bomb! Then it goes downhill. Ordered the banana bread and got the dry hard end piece. Ordered the Carmelita and the crust was so hard that the plastic fork broke off in it. Imagine finding it in the next bite :( My daughter's poppy seed muffin top was OK but the bottom was crumbly and dry. Had the apricot bar and broke another fork. Well I must first start off and say that this is my first review on yelp as I don't typically spend time to do this. However I felt compelled to write a review considering my experience. I live in San Diego and was flying up to Calistoga for my nana's 80th birthday so I wanted to design a cake that had a picture of her on the front. I found The Model Bakery on yelp and decided to try them out because they had good reviews. Sarah from day 1 was awesome she made the process simple and easy for me. I am a business owner too and we tend to critique other business' we run into because we instantly want to be treated as we treat others. All I did was email the pic talk briefly about what type of cake I wanted and they did the rest. I had the restaurant pick the cake up right next door to them and when we sang happy birthday and the cake came out it was the most beautiful cake I had ever seen! Not to mention the best tasting! Both locations are great. The english muffins really are amazing (expensive though), but so are any of their other fresh baked items. The staff are always friendly and seem to really enjoy what they do. Kind of odd - at the Napa location when we ordered an english muffin with cream cheese and avocado, it came ready to eat. At the St. Helena location it came on a plate with a tub of cream cheese and slices of avocado. No big deal- just different. (I liked it being ready to eat better). read more

I tend to drag my half-asleep self here every other morning or so. I love their coffee, and the service is pretty good. There have been several times where they have messed up my drink, but they are always happy to fix it for me. We were going on a winery tour but stopped in St. Helena to enjoy shopping and for lunch. We went to Model Bakery and had a grab and go chicken sandwich that was yummy. I love salad and they had a Kale salad that really was excellent and has become a favorite for everyone here. I asked the girl what was in it and she told me. I have made it but instead of the lemon dressing I have used a champagne dressing, golden raisins, walnuts and white cheddar with the kale. I have also made it with mixed greens and baby spinach. It is my contribution at various parties, and showers and is always a hit. What a lovely little place for a casual lunch. I checked pricey but feel it was worth it. Loved it! read more

Went there on a recommendation for the sandwiches and as you enter there is a cooler of pre-made sandwiches, just beyond that a line of 6-7 people that appear to be ordering custom sandwiches from a register. There is a second register off to the left of the store with a girl standing there doing nothing. I walk over there with A PRE-MADE sandwich and after she ignores me for 2 minutes she tells the line is to my right to order the sandwich, to which I said well I just want to buy a pre-made sandwich? Well sir you still need place an order the PRE-MADE sandwich. Really, I say you want me to leave this register and go stand in line to place an order for a pre-made sandwich? Yes sir she replied. Walked out immediately. Why have pre-made sandwiches in a rack at the entrance if I am not allowed to buy them without waiting in a Line?? Called my family member to complain about the recommendation where she proceeded to tell me she no longer goes there because they refused to substitute ham for turkey in her sandwich.
