Found a black speck in my ice cube, was given a dirty menu with food stains all over it and one of the glasses had a chip in it. I get it if one thing is dirty/ broken but 3 instances in one meal is absolutely unacceptable. Had the spicy penne vodka dish. Place looks like a wide open cafeteria. Lacks the warmth and ambiance of an upscale dinner restaurant. Massive bar area but only limited selections. Mediocre wine list. Martini was small and weak. Old fashioned was made by a bartender who doesn't know what he's doing. 60$ steak was bland, had to ask for salt / pepper. Service was so so - our Party or 5 was seated at a 4 person booth with a chair moved over to stick out at the end. Sides were small. Overall portion sizes small. Place looked clean I'll give it that but it's brand new. It just looks like somewhere you would go for a quick lunch. Reminds me of a Panera bread. I would not return here. We skipped desert and went up to Massaria by the Hyatt Hotel. We should have had dinner there. Superior by far. read more

My husband and I really really wanted to love this spot. First of all, the ambiance and bar is spectacular and we would go back just for that (drinks and appetizers). But the food was a big disappointment for us. Nothing to write home about. They should revisit their menu because that will keep a lot of people coming back. And we don't have huge expectations, but overall not impressed and the pricing for what you get is unacceptable. The drinks were however top notch. We don't plan on going back unfortunately. There are so many other options with phenomenal food. Side note: The chairs at the table were very uncomfortable and didn't seem to jive with the rest of the cozy vibe the place had to offer. read more

Had an amazing experience! I didn't have reservations and was able to be seated right away at lunch. The ambiance was beautiful with floor to ceiling windows and tons of natural light! Our waitress was wonderful and we asked for her drink recommendations. The New Slang was so unique including matcha in their recipe! Both drinks were very refreshing. The food was also fresh and delicious! We left full sharing these bites between two people. This farm to table menu is constantly changing! I can't wait to go back and try a different menu! The food here was solid, which makes the abysmal service all the more frustrating. We came to celebrate my wife's birthday and left feeling like an afterthought. We brought our own cake and were told ahead of time there'd be a $5 per person cutting fee, which we were happy to pay. We had one simple request: keep the cake refrigerated and pull it out about 30 minutes before serving so it would be ready to go. That apparently was too much to ask. Not only did they forget to take the cake out, but they then asked us -- right in front of the birthday girl -- whether we wanted it served cold. They followed that up by asking, again in front of her, whether we wanted a sparkler or just wanted it cut and plated. So much for any element of surprise. These are decisions that should have been sorted out discreetly, not workshopped at the table in real time. After all of that, it still took roughly 30 minutes just to cut and serve a cake. For five people. Beyond the cake debacle, we were essentially invisible for the rest of the meal. Not a single check-in from anyone to see how the food was or if we needed anything. We had to flag someone down every time we needed something. It's a shame because the food deserves better than the service surrounding it. A little common sense and basic attentiveness would go a long way. As it stands, I can't recommend this place unless you enjoy being ignored and an afterthought. read more

Everything at Morris Proper was exceptional-elevated food, perfectly crafted drinks, and thoughtful service. The management went above and beyond to take care of us, showing a level of generosity and hospitality that truly stood out. To start we got the scallops to share. Seared to perfection with its creamy corn and spinach purée. Very light and buttery. Was a great starter! For my main course I got the Branzino which was delicious. A very light and flakey, white fish, with its crispy skin. Topped with lemon, fresh herbs and breadcrumbs. For dessert we finished the night off with their classic espresso martini and black cherry amoretto chunk sundae which I highly recommend. A wonderful evening from start to finish. Deliscious. The staff are professional, the food is very good. We started with the focaccia which was fabulous with whipped ricotta, Parmesan and prosciutto. If you want the ambience, this is the best place to be at but if you want good food and drinks, I would give 3/5. I got the short ribs and it needed seasoning. The drinks - couldn't really taste the tequila. Positive - the appetizers of octopus and meatballs were 4/5. read more

Everything about this restaurant was incredible from start to finish. The moment we walked through the door we were greeted with beautiful smiles. Alini, the manager, was very kind and helpful with getting us seated and making sure we enjoyed our time. Alexy was our server in the lounge area and he was very well spoken and knowledgeable of the drink and food menu. We then transferred to the bar where we had some delicious hand crafted cocktails made by the bartenders( Lindsay, Pablo and Alex). We ordered a few food items including one of the best tuna tartare and octopus that I've ever had and I'm a huge critic of those two dishes. The Gulf shrimp pasta was also a HUGE hit. Went here for a wedding anniversary dinner. Everything was perfect. Great ambiance, service, and food. Nice touch was a little "Happy Anniversary" sign at our table and complementary glasses of champagne. Standout dishes: Hamachi, thinly sliced tuna with watermelon, and the swordfish...easily the best swordfish preparation I ever had. I hesitate to write this review, but for a restaurant that touts itself as fine dining, it was fairly underwhelming. Admittedly, I made reservations a day or two prior to NYE. My husband and I got married on NYE and on the reservation I made sure to note that we were going to be on our honeymoon while dining at The Morris Proper. There was absolutely no acknowledgment of that from any of the staff while we were there. Despite arriving exactly on time and to a nearly empty restaurant, we were made to wait for our table. The meal itself was fine, but nothing to write home about and there was a weird moment we had with a staff member who was maybe a bit too excited about shaving truffles onto our salads to even ask if we wanted them. I feel bad even writing this because our waitress was truly trying her best and she was honestly the best part of our meal. But the place as a whole doesn't feel like fine dining (I agree with the airport bar/hotel lobby sentiment from other reviewers). It was not worth the money we spent. read more

Service was good, liked how I got clean plates and utensils between courses without asking. The space is clean/new/beautiful but the chairs felt very small and they were all rounded/with an open back. Saw a lot of people with their purses on the ground because of this. Mains were good when they got it right. My salmon was delicious but one persons short rib arrived cold and another's pasta with lobster was pasta without any lobster. The waiter replaced both but at these prices those were basic errors that suggest they are not The Fully Proper yet. read more

Went for dinner a bit after 5 pm on a Sunday, the webpage said no reservations were available but don't let that stop you from walking in, especially a pair. The hostess did ask if we would be OK with leaving in 90 minutes and we said of course. There were many empty tables before, during and after our meal, and I don't really think they would have asked us to leave, but I appreciate the heads up just in case. Seating: there are high top seats at the central bar, and low seats around the open kitchen (maybe for lunch folks? Some had charging outlets at each seat). There are also some lounge/living room type chairs with coffee tables along the front window wall, and it looked like you could get drinks there as well and sit and relax. It is very roomy overall, and the restrooms are super nice! We were seated in the back section, and there were very few tables for the size of the rooms - lots of space in between, which was great, but not sure if that will stay that way. Music was very low and lighting was great, lots of sun coming through the floor to ceiling glass panels that opened to the back patio. There did not seem to be outdoor seating or service yet, but maybe that will come later! The decor is quite nice, clean French bistro feel but lots of open air and high ceilings. The large central bar in the middle of the restaurant was already about half full at 5:15 pm. There is currently no lunch/brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Drinks: cocktails were excellent, we had the freezer martini (I chose Gin - very fun and STRONG! It is pre-batched and comes in a pop top bottle sitting in a small Bucket of crushed ice with garnishes), and the dirtiest martini (SO delicious with the olive oil wash). Appetizers: we shared the foccacia and the fried pickled green tomatoes, both were very good, especially the accompanying cheese, olive spread and tomato confit with the foccacia. There is no bread served with the meal. Entrees - my husband had the rotisserie chicken, which came with some greens, pickled jalapeños and sauce - it was excellent. I had the branzino, which did not have much flavor and had a sprinkle of croutons on it. All of the sides have to be ordered separately, but it would have been nice if something came with the 2 slabs of fish. There were 4 little bones left in the fish, and unfortunately that entree was the low point of my meal. Dessert - we had the chocolate mousse and the cake, both of which were very good, and excellent, strong drip coffees (the true test of coffee making!). Service: the service was a bit intrusive, but I think they were just working on training people - we had 2 separate waiters ask to take our drink order, and in total, 5 different folks checked on us throughout the 90 minutes. I am sure this will be worked out in the future, and we will return - the menu has a lot of variety. Prices are a bit high for some items, but the quality and freshness of everything justifies them. Cocktails are $15-20 each, but are inventive and very good (Better than some high end cocktail bars in Manhattan). Highly recommend! read more

Been following the buildout of this place so made sure I made a reservation for a date night the week they opened....and I couldn't be happier that we did. The service was on point, the food (house baked focaccia, breaded tomatoes, Caesar salad and rigatoni) all outperformed and the drinks (get the new slang!) were delicious. While we loved the menu, two things in particular stood out: 1) the ambiance is amazing - it's a large impressive space but feels homey and comfortable; 2) the desert (chocolate mousse) was absolutely incredible - cannot wait to order that again. Stopped in for lunch the first time on a cold, rainy day. As others have pointed out, parking is a challenge. We did manage a spot in the small lot reserved for retail in the garage - only about 24 spots. C'mon! The space is large and open, attractive, but lacks any character. My dining companion and I both opted for the squash bisque. It was fine - a bit too sweet for my taste and too much pumpkin pie spice. I had the beef and pork ragu. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was good, just way too much of it. My friend had the crab cake sandwich and enjoyed it. I had the chocolate and salted caramel budino for dessert. The budino was too compact and there was too much salted caramel. So, overall some good; some not so good, but nothing great, except the pour of the barbera - very genrous for $14. read more

Such a disappointment considering I heard this is the "It" place in Morristown. We had a reservation for 4. The table they sat us at should be for 2 not 4. Waitress did not get to the table for 10 minutes and it took another ten minutes or more for our drinks to arrive. Twenty minutes is fifteen minutes to long for drinks. We ordered four appetizers and it was impossible to pass them around the table . Foccacia was excellent. Carpaccio was ok and would have been much better without pesto hiding the flavor. Traditional Carpaccio would have been better. Meatballs were fine but nothing spectacular. We ordered a bottle of wine and the server opened it and poured a full glass to the person who ordered it and then put the bottle down. We had to tell her to pour it for the rest of us. No taste was ever given. There were different menus given to us and we needed to ask which menu was the correct one. Service was slow and management didn't really seem to care when I spoke with them. Our entrees were fine but the pasta dishes were no more than an appetizer size. The short ribs were a bit dry. There are too many good restaurants in Morristown to spend this kind of money and have atrocious service an adequate food. read more

The decor is modern, service is alright, food is good enough. Nothing really notable or memorable. It's a O-K. Avoid the valet parking ($8 plus tips) if you can. The price for the portion size is outrageous, but if it was good I could get behind that. Unfortunately it is just not good. Apps that were good were the fried tomatoes and the bread. If I could've left it there maybe it would've been a satisfying experience. Out of scallops, branzino, and the ribeye the scallops were by far the best, but not mind blowing. The ribeye doesn't even seem like a ribeye, the flavor is like licking an unseasoned grill and the texture was unlike any ribeye I've ever had. The crudos (tuna and snapper) were unimpressive-flavorless, and strange texture as well. The drink list and the drinks themselves were also nothing special.
