This is a hidden gem along the shore. When we arrived there were no cars in the parking lot and I was actually unsure if they were open. After parking and going inside, it was clear they were and there were a few parties dining (who presumably walked). Our waitress was kind, although I will say the service was a bit slower than I would have imagined. I believe it took over 20 mins to receive our food. The jalapeño burger was great. I was surprised to find the jalapeños were fresh and not from the can. The burger was well cooked and one of the better diner burgers I've had. In all, I liked the Northfield Diner a lot more than I anticipated. I will say, they definitely need to modernize the diner. It feels a bit outdated and many the booth seats have tears. Other than that, it's a great stop and one of the better Shore diners I've been too. read more

Came for Thanksgiving and will not be coming back - limited menu due to the holiday ... which was fine. However food came out cold ... all 3 platters were cold and required 2 reheating ... The stuffing was a ball of mush and the steak was extremely overcooked. The waitress was friendly but not attentive ... overall not a great experience. read more

We've had breakfast and lunch at Northfield diner and it was great both times. Very friendly server yesterday who was great with our picky 8 year old. My buffalo chicken wrap was delicious in a grilled tortilla. Husband's burger had a brioche bun and he was it was perfect. He's had the Greek salad before and said it's one of the best he's had. It's dated inside but it should be busier because it's really good. Take a chance! read more

I ordered the western omelet. The omelet was pretty bland. The only flavor was from the ham. The potatoes were not bad. Service took a while but server was nice. It's ok not bad not great just ok. We have been coming here for years but something is different. Not the same vibe. They lose the 1st star for letting people park smack dap in front of the door. There is like 40 spots, but they park at the door. Anyway my wife had the gyro and she said it was "very good". My son had the Northfield burger he said it was one tasty burger and he would get it again. I had the meet omelette with home fries and a side of scrapple. I like my Home fries deep fried with onions. (I can feel your eyes rolling, I can eat crappy if I want)! They did them perfectly just the way I asked. Hostess and server very nice. Im writing an update. I have not been here in a few years. We came in about two months ago with a party of 4. We were told to sit wherever we wanted which we selected a table towards the back. The food was good. I'd like to point out constructive ways to improve service. None of us were asked if we wanted a second cup of coffee or how our meal was or did we want anything else. The owner waited on us. She was pleasant as I remember her from the last dining experience. I had French Toast which was good but one of the ladies at the table had home fries which were far too overcooked as if they had been sitting on the grill too long. That's my only criticism. Please ask customers if they would like to have their drinks/coffee/etc refilled. I do recommend this diner as its prompt service, extremely clean and good meals. read more

Knew this place was closed for awhile saw it was open so decided to stop in for dinner. Was greeted by the hostess (who may be the owner) and escorted to a booth. My companion and i got drinks and looked over the menu which included several specials. I went with my diner standard, a roast beef club- my companion ordered a cheeseburger medium rare. Food came relatively quickly, club was perfect, and large had to take half home. The burger was cooked to perfection and we both enjoyed the fries which were standard jersey diner fries hot out of the fryer. Was offered dessert, we passed, but saw a neighboring table got pie ala mode and ice cream with whipped topping. this place gets my highest recommendation, classic jersey diner, food was great. the only i would change the music piped in was country which i'm not a fan of. the place lacked ambiance, felt new and in lived in. needs something decoration-wise to make it feel more like diner. read more

Excellent family breakfast! We are always in search of great breakfast shops & we were surprised to find this hidden gem in a not so hidden spot. Honestly the place looks closed, odd parking lot configuration but once inside, looks like a clean diner setup. All the breakfast items we tried were tasy, homemade & well cooked. Omelettes, pancakes, Nutella french toast, homemade corned beef hash. Fresh squeezed juices is a big plus for me. Almost all local breakfast shops sell the cheap stuff for high prices, but this place sells the real juices for a fair price. Who we assume to be the owners are very nice & friendly to our kids, and are very attentive. Great hidden gem! read more

My parents love this place. I occasionally join them. I usually get the Greek salad or turkey platter. Both are great. They have good chicken orzo soup. Very clean dining area. Returned tonight with the fam. Split the chicken fettuccine Alfredo with mom and we were both full. Was a very good dish, the Alfredo was mild and just perfect. Friend had the Greek salad platter with chicken and rice which looked superb. Overall service was good, we've known the waiter forever because we frequent this place so much. read more

So, on the way to the shore, my husband and I passed this diner and decided to give it a try. We were seated immediately by a pleasant hostess. The place was pretty empty for 11am on a Saturday at the shore! I don't care for waiters who are overly friendly, but our waiter could have smiled once in a while. I don't think he even introduced himself. The diner, including the bathroom, appeared pretty clean. Automatically earned one of the stars for that ;) I had "Joe's porkroll omelette" which was pretty tasty. It had porkroll, tomatoes, onions, spinach and cheddar cheese. The homefries left a lot to be desired, although my husband liked them (he has a pretty bland palate). I thought they were dry and pretty tasteless. A few bites and I decided they were not worth the calories! Interestingly, when we were finishing up, one of the waiters said to a coworker, "I'll be back, I'm going out to get something to eat". This is our favorite place to eat. Everyone in our family loves it, even my fussy eater 8-year old niece. We go for breakfast most often, the omelets and pancakes are huge and really good. My favorite lunch/dinner is the Chicken Souvlaki (not sure of spelling) which is a huge portion of grilled chicken over rice with Greek salad and Tzatziki sauce (had to Google that one!). Their Gyros are also really good and their soups are excellent. My mom always gets fish, which is always fresh and well cooked. A lot of food for the price and excellent very friendly service. They remodeled and did a really nice job, it is very bright and clean, including the bathrooms. As a former resident of Northfield, I would frequent this fresh and fabulous family diner. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, they explain menu questions and are always attentive. I enjoy the counter on my own or a table/both with a guest. The COFFEE is full and rich, I had 3 full cups. The food is always tasty with visual appeal. I truly enjoyed my 20 minute drive past 3-4 other Diners to reach this establishment. Thanks for making a single traveling customer feel at home. I hope my travels bring me nearby soon. read more

We have tried a number of diners in the area and like this one the best. The clam chowder was delicious, not too starchy with fresh vegetables. This is what they say about themselves and my wife and I have to agree We offer American-Italian food, with a little bit of Greek. We're focused on value, family dining. We have a large menu, with early birds, daily specials and chef's specials. An early bird might be chicken stir fry for $11.95, which comes with soup or salad, beverage and dessert. Or lasagna, for 9.95, or fresh turkey breast for $11.95. Early bird specials are served from 3 to 5 p.m. Daily specials are from the regular menu and come with soup or salad. We pick 10 a day and reduce the price on them. For example, today was chicken marsala for $10.99 with soup or salad, or chicken and broccoli alfredo for $11.99. Chef's specials are dishes he chooses to make fresh that day, and every day there are a couple of them. Today we had beef brisket for $12.99, and stuffed peppers for $11.99, both as complete dinners. We are already famous for our stuffed meatloaf, which we've been making since we had a diner in northern New Jersey. It's stuffed with cheeses and onions. Everything is baked on the premises. That includes specialty cakes, pies, eclairs, napoleons, muffins, cinnamon buns and jumbo apple turnovers. Breakfast is served all day. We have breakfast specials daily, such as two eggs, home fries, toast and coffee for $3.95, or a western omelet, home fries and beverage for $6.95. A workman's special with pancakes, eggs, meat, home fries, toast and beverage is $8.50. We headed over to the Northfield Diner for an early Saturday dinner. We called and confirmed that their "21 Early Bird" dinners were valid until 5:30 PM so we arrived at 5:10. We were seated immediately as the diner was quite empty. A waitress came over and saw we had wine so she took the wine, uncorked it and brought out chlled glasses (a nice touch).. We then proceeded to order our dinners, 3 out of 4 being early bird specials. My husband asked a question about early birds so she knew we were interested in those. About ten minutes later, when bringing out our salads, she informed us that the chef would not prepare his early bird special. At this point, it was just before 5:30 which we told her and also told her that there were 2 other early birds. She went back in and came out several minutes later and said the cook would make DH's dinner. We then reminded her that the dinners that my friend and I ordered were early birds. Again, she headed back into the kitchen for about ten minutes. Finally she came out and informed us that the cook, who is the owner, refused to make our early birds. AT that point, we walked out the door NEVER TO RETURN! Why would an owner be that crazy and lose diners who come in on a semi-regular basis. This was not our first time there, but it will be the last time we EVER set foot into that diner. He is not the only game in town and he is very foolish to turn away business over a few dollars. Most restaurants will allow you to order the early bird if you are seated by the deadline. What a dummy (I could use other words, but I'll allow you, dear reader, to fill in the blanks). If you want service with a smile and an accomodating owner, this is DEFINITELY NOT THE SPOT for you; I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND this establishment, One last comment. We patronize a certain casual seafood establishment in Somer's Point where even on a weeknight, you will wait for at least 60-90 minutes to get a table. Our order came out and it was not as expected, but still good so we ate it anyway. While we were eating, the waitress came by and said that's not what you ordered so I'm bringing you each a whole new dinner. Also, they didn't charge us for one of the dinners. When I saw the owner who had been off that night, I told her about the incident. She said "that is why we are so crowded" and we value every customer. The owner of the Northfield Diner should take a clue from that establishment because his place was 80% empty on a Saturday night. read more
