Looking for a place for tea to catch up with some friends and Night Owl was the spot because they close at 3am! We arrived around 9 and it was packed. There were no seats at all. We couldn't' even stay there after purchasing our drinks. I ordered the hot chocolate and oh my it was sooo sweet. I only drank about 1/3 of my drink and I couldn't finish it. What a great discovery! My friend and I were looking for a late night place to grab dessert. We Yelped up on The Night Owl and headed over to check it out. It is VERY small and seating was limited, even before the club crowd got out. We each got a coffee and split a couple of desserts. The coffee is organic, of course a bonus in my book. Well, if you want to get some expensive coffee flavored water, Night Owl is the place. I asked for a large decaf but the " barista " handed me a small cup instead. I brought to his attention that I wanted a large decaf not a small. He seemed and sounded upset as he took a large cup, poured the small cup in it and proceeded to fill it up. Since he had his back turned to me I couldn't see what he was doing but he was actually filling it up with hot water. Didnt taste it till I was on my way home. 3.89 for a cup of hot water. I rarely leave reviews for coffee&tea cafe shops-if I do that's when I either love it or hate it. Earlier this year, with girlfriends and I just ended up here. Mainly moi, because I was so hungry after bar hopping. I was determined to get some legit food inside me. Okay so there wasn't really REAL FOOD, but they had this cutest and adorable selections of their baked goods. It was delicious - I'm very VERY picky when it comes to sweets and desert. It was good- I guess little bit pricey but heck I was damn hungry. More even better- the staff who were working there were super nice. Not to mention, they were cute :) I think I saw one of my girlfriends eyeing the one of the staff worker as she bite into her chocolate mousse. ... I love this place! I've always passed by whenever i was in Downtown Fullerton and finally got a chance to check it out! This place is small but love the atmosphere! I first thought this place was gonna have expensive things but the price was pretty reasonable! It was our first time and the worker (a girl) was really friendly and recommended us some delicious teas they have! I had Chai Tea Latte & my friend had a black tea! Chai Tea Latte - It's kinda sweet but has nice floral taste to it. It's delicious & has a taste that makes you get addicted to it! Black Tea - not too strong and it's soothing! Love the taste! We were there for 2 hours and loved the music & the atmosphere! I love how Down town Fullerton gets super pretty and you get to enjoy that while having a cup of delicious tea! Explained to me where the coffee comes from. Prices are better than Starbucks in my opinion. Atmosphere was everything I hoped for in a coffee shop. And! There was plenty of outlets! LOVE the fact that they're open so late and that they have comfy chairs. HATE the fact that they drew the line there and said "eh, why try harder? WHO, WHO will ever know?" As of today, The Night Owl has the distinct privilege of having served me the worst pastry of my life. The chocolate croissant I shelled out some dollars for was inedible. Quite literally, one could not eat it because it was rock hard and dry like driftwood (re-microwaved much?). A running theme in my reviews is that I don't give up on food easily and so I niftily turned my croissant into a biscotti, dipping it into some very lackluster cappuccino to re-hydrate my sweet. What a culinary adventure, right?! But, honestly, if this was a place hoping to survive as a coffee shop, I would not hesitate to give it one star and tell it to take a long walk off a short pier. However, their obvious dedication to providing a home for those souls for whom the night time is the right time, makes me hold back a bit. My sincerest recommendation to the owners and staff is to source new baked goods and to learn how to serve them. I should have asked more questions before ordering. I got a dirty chai latte iced (chai latte with espresso). I should have asked, "do you make your chai or is it pre-made powder/liquid?" Also should have asked, "how many shots does it come with?" Because I ended up with her pouring milk and some boxed chai latte concentrate and (maybe?) adding one shot of espresso. I couldn't taste the coffee at all and wasn't sure if she maybe misunderstood what made the chai dirty. That being said, the coffee shop was so cute! The back patio is nice too. I came with a friend and it was a nice place for conversation. The people working there, and the patrons, were really nice. The desserts/pastries looked really good too. I would come back but order something else...I get that not everywhere makes their own chai, and the fact that they're aren't enough hippies in Fullerton to create a demand is really more of a blessing than a detriment, in my opinion. read more

This is my first review, and maybe it has to do with the fact that I scouted out a cafe specifically to write in, but this place is so effortlessly inspiring. Maybe it's the earthy colored walls, or the flowing curtains, or the dangerously comfy sofa chairs, but I feel like I'm crashing at someone's (tasteful) home. It's artsy with a boho feel- there's almost nothing uniform but it doesn't clash, it just makes everything so much more curious. And the lamps! So cute. This place kind of reminds me of Pier 212 in Santa Monica, but smaller. I've only tried one thing on the menu- an iced Hibiscus tea latte with hemp milk (50c extra), no sugar added. Wow. I'm sipping slowly to savor it. As someone who is dairy (& soy) free, my options are usually limited at coffee shops. I've never tried hemp milk before, and thought it would just be a bland substitute to milk, but this thing is its own kind of wonderful. A little on the pricey side, but it's dtf. The baristas are friendly and easy to talk to, and are great with customized orders. Last thing- they have spoken word poetry nights every few weeks. Seriously? It is mind boggling how they manage to keep their 4 stars--- All I can say to start my review is that their coffee hurts my feeling. 1. Space: Many reviewers said this place is a hipster place. I think NOT-- unless "hipster" means "dirty". I think they keep this place dark for reason--to hide their dust. Kitchen didn't look that clean either. Very very noisy. 2. Coffee: I know we all have different idea of what's good coffee and bad coffee. So I would use the term "Offensive" to describe their latte. I went there a second time- the AC was on! What a huuuuge difference, omg.. But why doesn't the owner install CEILING FANS inside? Central AC makes no sense in such a small business with so much traffic constantly going through the front and back doors. That would make such a massive difference, and ceiling fans cost almost nothing in terms of energy use.. I really enjoy this coffee and tea haven. First visited due to a burning curiosity. People were lined up outside, on the Amerige side, when there was some live music playing from within. Intriguing! I came back when it was it's usual quiet, dark little hideaway. I ordered ice tea, unsweetened. Was pleased by the fragrant peach, passion fruit mix. Lately I've been ordering iced coffee, unsweetened, with soy. A staple! They have a ton of baked treats. Some vegan! The decor is owlish. Chairs are mismatched, worn, and comfortable. It's a bit dark to read or study, for my taste... But I tried reading my (physical) paperback! Everyone's on a computer nowadays. So it suits the college crowd it supplies with legal addictive stimulants. Sometimes there's only one person behind the counter, which makes for slow turnaround. But I'm so relieved to get my drink in hand by that point, the waiting just adds to the general anticipatory effect. Outdoor patio is always popular. Music suits me! I enjoy this place. The Night Owl is a beautiful hideaway for the student that needs to study or the late night that you need a delicious drink with the backdrop of an artistic scene and good conversation. The coffee is great for a good price. The staff is always accommodating and wonderful. (Moe in particular is amazing! A great barista who works super hard! ) The owner (Joe) always has a very active presence and is quick to greet his regulars. I've been going consistently (at least once a week) for almost a year and I don't think I could find a place more welcoming and beautiful. The live music nearly every night is an added bonus to the artistic vibe this beautiful little coffee shop puts out into the community. The Owl is definitely my go-to spot for the best coffee, tea, snack, or smoothie in town. (I recommend the Lavender London Fog, the blueberry tea, or the strawberry peach smoothie! The Night Owl is one stinkin' cute coffee house, and is a nice place to chill out on a cold evening. It's smart to have a coffee shop that's open so late in DT Fullerton, and they do it well here. I didn't check out the big patio in the back, but I can say that the inside is adorable, and they had your quintessential musician playing guitar and singing for the Saturday night crowd. I opted for hot tea, and they have a nice selection to chose from. They had some flavored green tea, and I went for that one. We didn't try any of the treats on our visit, but I was content enough with my tea and the vibe. The tea was served in a cool eco-friendly paper cup thing, and it was a cool cup; it had a whole bit on it about why using this cup makes you a good person, even if you're not. I got a kick out of it. And the tea was seriously HOT, like so hot I had to let it cool off for several minutes. This was a good thing though, as it was chilly for my So-Cal bones outside. I came here last night to do some work and meet up with a buddy. It happened to be open-mic night which was fun and interesting. This place is the epitome of the trendy, small business coffee shop. Being open late, it attracts more of a hipster, college-student, starving-artist, and the occasional-old-man-with-beard crowd. The inside of the venue is about the size of your average coffee shop with various vintage looking furniture. It also has a relatively large fenced off patio area if you're into that whole coffee and cigarettes thing. I ordered a delicious black tea that took about 15 minutes to cool off sufficiently. This place would do well with a couple of heat lamps outside. It was also too crowded for my taste on this particular night. The drinks here are so much better than Starbucks despite same price. Cool study atmosphere but at night it tends to get loud with all the outside noise. HIPSTER ALERT! This place is awesome. It is open super late to fulfill your late-night coffee needs. They have small venue shows and barbecue events. Cool place to chill out and watch all the drunk dumbasses leave the bars. Go at 130am and hilarity will ensue as they walk back to the parking lot, I promise. You'll love the outside back of the place if you're a smoker, and they have a small fire torch thingy to keep you warm. If you like to hangout inside they have a nice comfy couch to relax on. The coffee at best is average, but I just love the ambiance, hangout, and shoot-the-ish. That's why I go here. This is a great little coffee shop with a lot of character. The drinks are great. Any place with a good chai tea latte gets a stamp of approval from me. Everything is reasonably priced and the hours are fantastic. They've recently added more pastries, like this bear claw I'm currently munching on, that is a nice little treat. The only downside is that it's a bit cramped inside. Probably wouldn't be such a big deal if it weren't busy pretty much all the time. Then it just gets insanely warm and stuffy. I don't like my things sweetened so I am always looking for a place that has a great tasting base, this place here is it! The inside is comfortable, eclectic, and welcoming. They always play great music. The baristas have all been friendly and knowledgeable. The outside patio is huge! Lots of shady places and you can bring your dog! Please only bring friendly dogs, since there will most likely be people sitting close to you. They have live music but I have not been for that definitely on my to do list. Where do people go to study in Fullerton? I'm honestly not too sure. But I looked up some cafes in the area and I was glad I came across this place to get some work done. Parking was a breeze as it usually is in Fullerton. I found a parking structure in the back that allows for 2 hour parking. I then went inside and they had just opened for the day. As they were setting up, I enjoyed looking around the cafe and its interior. After just a few moments, I was helped. I ordered a Cafe au Lait and the lady asked if I wanted the wifi password even before I had to ask. It was great. There was also a little boy in the cafe with her and she was keeping him company. It was adorable. Not sure if this is a family business but it definitely had that vibe. I'm sure I'll be back here again. I've been to The Night Owl late at night during the middle of the week and it was hard to find a seat. I also came on a Sunday afternoon and it was hard to find a seat. Luckily they have a patio and heaters, but very limited seating inside. I was really excited to find this place. They're open really late and there is plenty of parking. Usually what I'm looking for in a coffee place is a nice environment with some comfy seating. I'm not too concerned with the taste of the coffee (If I want good coffee I'll just make it at home for free). The prices are pretty much what you'd expect from any other coffee shop. This is the perfect place to just hangout and have a decent cup of coffee late at night. I'll definitely be back. Also, the service is way better than McClain's down the street. Came here Saturday evening after exploring the area, got their ice blended mocha which was pretty good but I was really surprised the place was dead on a Saturday evening in July. I immediately loved the interior and their little patio area. However, the barista looked miserable and was unfriendly. I asked her if there would be any live music that night (there was a sign outside that said there was live music on Friday & Saturday nights) & she then said with an attitude, "There's a sign there that you can read." Woah, a simple no would've suffice. Just her overall attitude made me feel unwelcome as if I was the one being rude. I thought it was just me but my friend told me she was just plain rude when she ordered her drink while I used the restroom. She didn't like her drink at all (iced caramel coffee), said it didn't taste like caramel at all. With my lactose-intolerance I opted to try their hemp milk in my iced lattes: a good choice. 3.5 stars This place always seems to be busy.. I passed by a few times heading to Burger Parlor, thinking it's just another coffee shop.. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place after we "tried" to go to Disneyland on leap year (yeah, never again lol). I wanted someplace to go buy coffee but because it was already 10:30pm, Starbucks was bound to close in half an hour, and other cafes were already closed. I honestly wasn't expected a nice little cafe that you'd see in those indie movies, but to my surprise it actually was. The menu consisted of "gourmet" coffee (Fair Trade, mind you) and teas, little sweet fixes (like macarons!) and ALSO provided hemp milk--never tried, but I will sooner or later. I ordered a large sized cafe au lait with non-fat milk (for like $3 =___=), and my boyfriend had one of their peppermint teas that felt like you just rinsed your mouth with mouthwash. I would think this place is great to just chill with a friend or significant other, or to come to when you can't sleep during the night. The guy who was playing last night had a great voice and played very well, so I'm hoping/assuming that they have good artists that play all the time. Props for free wi-fi as well! read more

This place is adorable. Its a small, comfy cafe that resembles a friends living room. Though I havent seen any live music, they have a corner with a mic and a barstool. Its a little tight when walking through to the back and it tends to get packed after 8. The pastries are nothing i have ever tried. They're rich chocolate desserts are very unique and delicious but I suggest sharing with a friend. Ive only ordered the chai tea latte, which is yummy! I hate this coffee place. I've had the Americano and the Red Eye, and the beans always come out burnt. I had a surly-looking Skrillex as my barista one time, and he merely scowled as he took my order and gave me the frothiest, obviously "from concentrate" masala chai I've ever had. Yummy coffee drinks and pastries? Yes, please. Cozy, rustic coffee shop atmosphere? Oh for sure! I love coming to the Night Owl when I feel motivated enough to skip the Starbucks drive-thru and walk into a cafe. This place is great! A lot of specialty coffee drinks, some with floral flavors that are almost reminiscent of teas. I am a mocha freak, so I always order mocha. Ask them to make a Mexcian mocha-they don't have an official one on the menu, but the staff is more than happy to add the spices. It is awesome! There is plenty of outdoor patio seating, but the inside tables can't accommodate too many people. I also don't think it is a good studying spot because it is pretty dark inside, and the outdoor patio area is quite LIVELY with conversations. It is definitely more of a hangout spot, but that's just my opinion. Parking isn't terrible because there is both street parking and a parking lot right behind the cafe. read more

This is such a quaint coffee shop! I loved the ambiance inside. I got the vanilla lavender latte which was one of their specials and it was so delicious. I love how late it's open & that it's in a really prime location. The baristas really know their stuff so ask them questions if you're stuck on something! It's really hard for me to pick something but the guy I was talking to was really helpful. Best part was that pricing was really good too!
