Had my daughter's wedding here for over $100 a head and we were not impressed with the value, nor the professionalism of the coordinator. I will give you the high, no let me rephrase, the low lights of the reception. After the ceremony we headed into the lounge area for cocktails and hor's deouvres. There were some cheeses, veggys and dip. About 10 minutes later we were blessed to be given some crackers to go with it. The hot items began to come out approx 5 minutes after that with butler service only, no table with chaffing dishes. The trays being offered had 12 to fifteen items, and after a few steps they were empty. They made 8 to 10 passes and that was it, very skimpy and not enough of it. Further as one of our dinner choices we got the filet. We specifically asked about cooking temperature and Jackie told us we would be asked how we liked it cooked. If that had happened I might not be writing this, but as you can guess nobody asked and the beef came out medium well with no pink at all. Finally as an added touch the coordinator Jackie was dressed in street clothes the whole time, certainly not professional attire for a supposed high end wedding. I know she could have done better since the next morning when we went to gather our things, there was going to be another function and she had on a lovely dress, hair nicely done, and make up in place. This has been one of my favorite restaurants in the area for a while now. However, lately it has been hit or miss...mostly miss. Tonight service was no better than Applebee's. We got water right away but server Alysia was far behind. Did not ask for a drink order or tell us about the specials just took our entire order. Appetizer was rushed out waaaay before our drinks came. The calamari was rubbery and the ratio of peppers to calamari had peppers winning by a landslide. We never got bread although other tables did. We had to ask for drink refills they were never offered. The filet mignon was delicious and cooked very well but came a long time after hurried app. We were looking forward to dessert but ended up getting it to go because of timing. Dessert took an additional 15 min after we died the check. I would love to say this is a one off but we have been disappointed in either the food or the service the last few times we have come. We keep coming back looking for the "perfect" meal we have had here in the past and keep getting disappointed. Not sure what changed but I hope they pull it together. We will prob come back in the summer to try their new outside dining. Hopefully they figure stuff out by then. Not worth the 2 person $200 check. read more

My husband and I just had an enchanting experience at the North House. When I made the reservation I mentioned we were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary. Every staff member who waited on our table wished us a happy anniversary, the manager came to the table with two complimentary glasses of sparkling wine, with the appetizers we ordered we were given 6 complimentary oysters, our dessert arrived at the table on a large platter with Happy Anniversary written on the platter, and finally when the check came an envelope was given to us containing a card from the staff wishing us a Happy Anniversary. Our waitress, Danielle, was outstanding and attentive. Food was top notch. We found our food to be flavorful, cooked to perfection, and well presented. I had the half chicken and my husband had the swordfish.For dessert we shared a lemon chiffon cake and for appetizers we ordered ahi tuna with wontons, and a plate of cheeses. If you are looking for excellent food and over the top service, you must go to The North House. read more

We made our first visit on a Saturday at 8. Sat in first room (second room empty). High ceilings and just too noisy. They had already run out of steamers so we tried the mussels, very sandy. Hosted an event here which turned out well. Food was decent, dessert was ok, set up went smoothly and the place was decorated with clean linens. We brought some of our own decor and had enough time to put everything together. However, the planning process was a bit of a mess. Part of that was because most of it had to be done over the phone/email, and there were several times that I reached out and didn't hear back until I called again. Perhaps things would be more organized if I had met in person. The reason I'm giving 3 stars however is the payment process. It states one thing in the contract, but then the planner gives a different payment process. That is fine, although the day of the event when I was supposed to pay no one knew what to do with the check/who to give it to. Then they claimed to have lost my payment. Checking a few days later I saw that it had already been deducted from my account, and they made no effort to contact me to inform me not to write them a new check. read more

My wife and I went to the North House last night to celebrate my birthday and were sadly disappointed. We had a reservation for 7 and arrived early to enjoy a drink at the bar before dinner. We checked in with the hostess and went into the bar where we waited a good 10 minutes to get our drinks in a fairly busy but not overly crowded bar. At 7 we paid our bar bill and checked back in with the hostess and were told that they had overbooked and were running late. We were offered eating in the bar or waiting a bit until our table was ready, and we chose to wait. Back to the bar and by 7:35 had heard nothing from the hostess or management and we were beginning to wonder. The hostess appeared at 7:38 and said they were clearing a table and it would be "just a couple of minutes." By 7:50 there was still no sign of a table, hostess or manager so we left. My wife and I dine out often and really try to understand that everyone has a bad night now and then, but I have never seen this amount of pure disregard for a customer. This was our second visit to the North House, the first for cocktails when they opened, and we were hoping for good things and to enjoy what looks like nice menu offerings. We had been given a gift certificate to use there for Christmas, but I think I will regift that to someone I don't really like. My wife and I will NOT GO BACK. read more

Heard good things about the restaurant so my wife and I got out for a long overdue just us dinner last Friday night. Place is wonderfully renovated, exuding New England charm and would definitely be a destination on a cold night in the winter. Hostess - great, waitress absolutely terrific. Service is top notch here and you are made to feel welcome and valued. Wine list is very good - a bit price heavy but you can find something to work in most budgets - we had the Justin Cab for $68 and started with a very nicely made martini. I had the raw oysters, very good, and my wife had the shrimp cocktail which she also said were good. We both had steaks, she the strip me the ribeye. We normally don't like to order steaks unless we are in a steakhouse like Ruth's or Michael Jordan's but we were persuaded by the sommelier who told us they would be terrific. They were, indeed, good but not comparable to a great steakhouse steak. Then again, at $34 and $36, respectively, we felt we got what we paid for and then some. Certainly better steaks than The Barn or Abigail's if you want reference points. We elected to split a artisanal salad - very skimpy and not worth it. Each steak came with broccolini which was almost non-existent on the plate. They gladly substituted fries for the potato croquette on my plate and they were great. We were too full for desert but ordered Bailey's on the rocks. We are normally used to a good pour on those, at $10 each. My wife's was two fingers and mine was perhaps one as if they didn't want to open another bottle. Very disappointed by that but wasn't motivated enough to say something (should of, I'm sure they would have rectified it). All in all, we had a very nice night out, driven by our great waitress, the ambience and the good food. read more

How I would love to love this place. Anyone who has lived in this area for some time knows the vintage New England charm of Avon Old Farms. Remember the brunch they served in years gone by? Well the new owners have gloriously restored the quirky maze of hallways and old wife floorboards that made the place lovable, complete with a few booths that should be reserved for EXTREMELY thin customers-the quirks of a several hundred year old inn! There's great stuff coming out of the kitchen and the staff is well-meaning if completely bumbling at times. I had an amazingly delicious pork belly appetizer and delicious duck breasts, while my friend's short ribs came out frosty cold..twice! We were left with no utensils a couple times, and the entire table was given a single dessert menu. Let's get an experienced manager and train those cheerful staffers to run this place like the lovely restaurant it is. The space is charming and the food is very good though very inconsistent. Some attention to detail and training would make this place a wonderful destination. If they Keep up the current wackiness, they're destined to the same mediocrity that has closed the last few attempts at resurrecting this beautiful building. read more

Absolutely delighted to eat there every single time my office orders lunch. My provider and my staff absolutely have raved about their food and they have proven It time and time again. Conveniently located at the intersection love Route 10 and Route 44 at the base of Avon Mountain you almost missed this location as you're driving by but it is beautiful outside as I have heard it is inside. I have not had the pleasure of eating at the restaurant itself but every time we order food for take-out it is quick it is accurate and it is delicious. Never a long wait and I have found that their salads are absolutely amazing. The Boston salad is my favorite the lettuce was gorgeous and the chicken cooked just right if you add it to the salad. I'm looking forward to the next time my office orders food from this location just to impress the people we eat lunch with the next time. This place is not for anyone who's light of the wallet so the prices are up there but completely worth it. If my husband wasn't so scared to try expensive food I'd bring him there on a dinner date but that's to be continued.... read more

Took my dad here for his birthday on a whim. Glad we did. Had a great meal with attentive service and were pleasantly surprised by the entire night. It's a huge place and it got very busy while we were there but they handled it well. We sat in blacksmith room (one of several dining rooms I believe) which was memorable. Will definitely be back. This was our first visit. We weren't crazy about the potatos in the mussel appetizer, otherwise it was rather good. For dinner I had the Char, which was very good. My wife had the pot roast, which was not. The meat was unusually tough and chewy. The service was excellent. My wife Tara and I were married at the North House last month and cannot recommend it highly enough! Born and raised in CT, my wife and I have been to over a dozen weddings in the area and did extensive research on comparable venues. Compared to nearby options, the North House had by far the best location, flexibility, customer service, food quality, and overall value. We first looked at the venue a couple years ago when it was Belle Terrace. We loved the location, on-site ceremony option, and proximity to Avon Old Farms hotel for our guests, but had some initial concerns about management, catering, and service. These concerns were alleviated immediately during our second visit when we learned the Chabot family (Farmington Gardens owners) had purchased the property and taken over management. We met directly with co-owner Nick to discuss the space and choose a package that worked with our budget. Nick and his staff went out of their way to address our concerns, customize the menu, make exceptions to our package, recommend vendors, accommodate a rehearsal, decorate the space, and help us with all planning aspects for our big day. The family-run feel was pervasive before and after we signed our contract - a feature of the North House that stood out from the other venues we considered, which felt more like rigid wedding factories. We worked with coordinators Saleesa and Tori who were honestly as valuable as wedding planners. They met with us on weekends, took countless phone calls, kept us on task, collaborated with our vendors, stayed late the night of our rehearsal, and made sure we were calm and fed on our big day! After the reception, we invited guests for cocktails and late night snacks at the North House's classy new restaurant, which was a quick walk from the ballroom. It was a great way to end the night and definitely a better option than the crowded hotel bar across the street. After our big day, guests raved about the food, drinks, servers, staff, venue, and overall experience. We cannot thank the North House and their staff enough for an absolutely perfect wedding day! read more

My husband and I went last night for our anniversary. We had reservations for 7:30 but watched two parties get seated before us. When we asked the second time what was going on, the hostess walked us to a table minutes later for 8!!! We said this is not intimate table for an anniversary couple as we're looking around at the 2 parties that got sat before us in beautiful booths. So there was a tinier table next to it and we said can we sit there? And she said it's not cleaned yet. We're like, we don't care we're starving! Anyway....the staff and service - CLUELESS but the food was fantastic. Since we drove from Newington I doubt we'll go back - there are plenty of restaurants (ruth chris for example) for special occasions and great service much closer. read more

The food was mostly good. I was very pleased with the steak. We ordered a lentil soup as an appetizer. It was extra extra salty. The waitress was very nice and took it back to the kitchen and removed it from the bill. The restaurant has some charm, an especially inviting place on a cold winter evening. And, the restaurant is so spread out, it's not a typical noisy event. That makes for a more relaxing atmosphere. read more

I hosted my Baby Shower at the North House this past Sunday and I couldn't believe how all of it came together - it exceeded my expectations by far! The manager, Dylan, did an exceptional job working with my Husband and I on all of our wants and needs for our special day. He definitely went ABOVE AND BEYOND and we cannot thank him enough. Our wait staff was just as lovely, attentive, and kind, Beth and Mike, who made the celebration very special. Not only is the service at The North House amazing, but the food is to die for! Been back twice since OG review, once for happy hour then dinner. Both times sat in bar. I will say the happy hour menu/tavern food is really good. It was crowded both times. The service and speed with which he food came out was fine, maybe too quick? As in we ordered the steamed pick buns and they came out 30 seconds later. Kinda lite on the pork but tasty. When wife ordered them 2 weeks later there was a lot more pork, so maybe consistency? The wings were tasty as were the deviled eggs. Fried chix/waffle was super, and the wife likes the salmon. The hot dog was enormous, chili on top was nice. We will go back, won't sit in dining room though... read more
