What a wonderfully eclectic menu! Not only do they have the standard bar food but also things like Duck confit pot pie. I had the ground duck burger which was very good with sweet potato fries. We had a event here to try their menu. I like the fruity cocktail Summit 77, containing vodka, lemon juice. There were five courses: 1. Cony island pilsner beer. Appetizer plater: sweat potato nachos with pulled pork. It is covered with cheddar cheese and green chili sauce. Potato Tatars with truffle, in which I do not get enough truffle, and chicken wings. 2. Red wine Asian pear salad. The Asian pear salad has delicious goat cheese and sweet grape, walnut. I like the roster pine nuts in the Tavern arugula salad with aged cheddar cheese. It would be better to add more cheese in there. 3. Tavern bugger, short rib bugger, and chicken burger. Paired with Brooklyn IPA. Chicken burger is crispy like a peamague chicken in a sandwich. The short rib burger is so smoky in a pretzel bum. The Tavern birder is impressive with balanced seasoning and salty taste from smoked bacon. 4. Main dish: Pan roasted salmon with roasted corn. Duck pie is not impressive. Went here 2 weekends in a row . First time was "okay" but service was shaky . This past time the service was terrible and the food was horrible . I'm a chef and I find it hard to believe that servers aren't grateful to have customers in these times . Our server completely disappeared and we then saw him on break eating lunch . The second server checked on us 1 time and also disappeared on break . The chicken cream soup was inedible , was sent back and we were still charged . Welcoming, good food, great service We still feel new to the area and going out (two pandemic babies) - I'm always hesitant to go out with kids, but the entire staff was so helpful and made us feel comfortable (even letting us move to a bigger table to have more room). Extra shout out to our amazing server Alondra - she immediately made us all feel comfortable - from us the parents worried about the mess to my 2 year old and 8 month old. Its not easy going out to eat with kids, but she made us feel like we could enjoy our time. We felt so comfortable we back within the week and appreciated that she remembered our kids and they loved seeing her - made the meal that much more enjoyable. She wasn't even our server but she went out of her way to make sure we were had everything we needed (our server Alex was also great!! Thank you). I don't normally write reviews, but for a tired mom who doesn't get out, I appreciate how the Office staff made me feel comfortable to be out with my kids and enjoy. Very disappointed in my experience here last weekend for my birthday dinner. The Good: Seated Immediately. The food was ok... nothing spectacular. My husband got the riblet sandwich on pretzel bread which was good and the apple wings were also on point. The BAD: Sloooow service, even though the place wasn't packed. The drinks took forever to come and so did the food. We got there around 8 and didn't leave until 11.... The waiter (although not his fault, I think) took forever with the bill. He said the system was "down" and charged all 3 couples cards THREE times until he told us something was wrong. We were waiting for our checks for about 45 minutes.. Everyone else got their bills with no problems.. This experience turned me off and I will not be coming back. read more

I'm giving 3 stars because of the trendy atmosphere, the outdoor dining space and the super friendly hostess who greeted my party upon arrival and the realistic seating time she quoted. The food on the other hand is hit or miss. I ordered the tuna sashimi ahi tuna bowl. Mediocre at best. This salad has the right idea, but the ingredients never blended together as a great salad should. A great salad will taste better and better the more you get into it. The first few bites were delicious, but half way through I was full. The jalapenos should be diced, not sliced - way too much heat. The sliders and french onion soup on the other hand are out of this world. The margarita flatbread pizza is pretty tasty too. The biggest disappointment was when I got my check and realized that the waitress had charged me for top shelf liquor when I did not order such. I ordered two margaritas but I guess she wanted me to have Patron Silver, so that's what I paid for. My impression that by not specifying alcohol, I would get the house stock. I get that she wants to make money, but to cheat the customer to pad your check looks bad on the house. I didn't say anything because at the end of a work week, I am just looking to have a drink and a meal while enjoying my family. I did notice and am disappointed that she did this. I have lived in this town off and on for over 40 years and this was my first visit to the office. It has morphed and experienced various reincarnations but essentially it's a local bar with American fare for commuters at one of the busiest transfer hubs in New Jersey. I have ordered late night takeout several times but I never sat down and ate. The Cornmeal Crusted Catfish with she crab grits and cherry tomato salad sounded good. However its taste and presentation were subpar. The crust on this fish was thick and impervious and the fish inside was small and underwhelming. It had zero flavor. I asked for it to be taken away and I decided to go with pulled pork tacos with guacamole. These were very good. The sweet potato fries were so good I had an order to go. The sauce was very yummy. But the highlight of my meal was my expertly crafted drink by Tyesha. I had the harvest sangria spiced wine, vanilla Stoli, ginger beer, cinnamon simple syrup. My only complaint is I wish it had more alcohol but I'll be trying this drink at home doubling up on the spirits no doubt. Tyesha was a very upbeat and personable service. She took time in making my drink and the presentation in the neat goblet was a plus. Overall, the drink was a 10, service was a 10, fries 10, tacos 7. I'm not sure Is sit and eat here again but I'd order a drink and get some take out fries. George and Martha is a sister restaraunt and their food is phenomenal. I love how every week the restaurant includes a weekly "road trip" menu that has specials inspired by a particular state. The Office also has delicious regular menu options. You wouldn't think it would be so tough to order a simple cheeseburger. Or, far more importantly, to actually order a drink and food at all. Whenever the service is this bad, I blame management. Perhaps my server was covering the entire room, I didn't study it. I only know I sat and sat to get a menu, to take an order, to receive an order, to get a check and to pay a check. I never write reviews, but after a recent stop at The Office, I felt obligated to do so. It was a chilly night and I ordered a Manhattan to warm me up. It made perfect sense not only because of the outside temperature, but it was also $6 on the happy hour menu. The bartender made me a delicious drink that really hit the spot. The manager, Nigel, was very attentive. I told him it was my first time there and he recommended a taco pizza dish. I've had taco pizza before but never anything as good as this! I've been to The Office in Summit several times now and have never been disappointed. It is definitely a step up from some of the older Office Beer Bar locations (many of which I guess have been closed). True to its roots there is a great selection of craft beer, and numerous offerings from New Jersey. The food selection is also a vast improvement from what they had before with a selection that I dare say fitting for a gastropub. In terms of the restaurant itself, it's located right across the Summit train station and is literally a 30 second walk, so easy to get to after work- I live in a different train line but have been known to take a detour to have dinner here. Outside seating is a plus, and there always seems to be space at the bar or community tables. read more

I've lived in Summit for a few years and was very excited when they revamped The Office. After Beacon Hill Tavern closed we were in dire need off a Signature Burger place. The Old Office was very tired and seemed like it was only busy when the college kids come home. Sufficed to say the new Office is a much nicer environment with a greater selection and what seems to be much better food. I've tried it 4 or 5 times since it opened, with friends, by myself, at a table, in the bar and they have scored a 100% consistency rating of having utterly terrible service. They have plenty of people obviously working there, but they have no idea how to take care of their customers, they don't check-in regularly, they don't notice empty drinks that may need refilling, food takes a while to get delivered, you have to flag them down to get their attention and forget about bringing kids there...they have no idea about getting the kids food out fast. As I write this I'm not sure why I gave them so many chances. I guess I cut them a lot of slack as they have had to hire new people, but the experience has not gotten any better after months of time to iron things out. Earlier this week, I finally had enough after waiting an hour for a sandwich while sitting at the bar. I even checked on it 40 minutes after ordering it and was told it was on the way. I asked for the check and had to request they remove the sandwich from my bill. When they asked why, I said because I ordered it an hour ago and never saw it. In fairness to the manager who heard when I asked to have it taken off the bill, they did apologize and offer to send me home with something, but I politely declined and said no thank you. After all of the money you obviously spent on your renovation, on the building and the equipment, you forgot the most important investment...your staff - they are 100% the face of your business and the ambassadors of your success, or in this case the one consistent ingredient to your failure. They are repelling your customers and every customer you lose is at an exponential cost as you have no way of determining how many checks over a year you could have counted on from them. With me, you've lost a family of 5 with very young kids that was a local customer (and all of the business that goes with a repeat customer) and I decided that you folks just don't know how to train your staff to perform their jobs at par, not even perform them well or be rated as excellent (which I would think you would want). Train your people and you might get me back in there for another try, but until then I'll spend my money elsewhere...Winberries if I have to, Huntley, Committed Pig, even the Hat Tavern does it better. My advice, vote with your wallet. There are plenty of restaurants that know how to treat their customers. I'm an optimist, maybe these guys will turn it around, maybe not. I hear there is a new place going into where Monster Sushi was - maybe they will get it right. read more

We came here all the time before the renovation. The place looks nice now but the new menu is terrible. The lighter options (fish tacos, ahi tacos, etc) are gone and their replacements are really disappointing. The Brussels were underwhelming - way too sweet and syrupy - and while the ahi tuna seemed okay, it's oil left the dish totally bland and flavorless. Had to ask for soy sauce just so there was some taste. Maybe try adding some citrus, or ginger or miso? In general, all the dishes seems to lack flavor balance and don't align well with what The Office is, or wants to be. Also the flow at the back of the restaurant might work better for servers now (does it?) but it certainly doesn't make sense for guests. The back bar area is really strange and has a hidden TV that not even the bartenders are able to see. We really didn't understand that decision... Pretty disappointed overall and don't have plans to come back. read more

The Office was just renovated around the beginning of 2016, and it looks wonderful inside. It's a very inviting atmosphere, that draws you in to have a seat at the bar, and sample their many craft beers on tap. I can also affirm that the food quality has improved. I highly recommend the short rib burger (served on a pretzel bun), maybe some of their housemade truffled tots as an appetizer, and if you're getting their delicious chocolate chip cookies in those mini-skillets, to share, then you should totally pair it with their chocolate truffle stout beer. The bitterness of the stout works so well with the rich, sweetness of the cookies. Now that the weather is improving, and the warmth of spring is finally approaching, you should definitely enjoy this town's great downtown area. I've been to the Morristown location but this was the first time I've come to their Summit location. Different vibe & layout. I actually prefer this layout. Feels more open. We came in the later evening so we were given the option to sit near the bar and we got a corner table. I guess since it was later in the evening & we were in the bar area, our server was one of the bartenders. Though it did take him a little while to come back to take our food order after he greeted us initially, he did also have a full bar to attend to so I completely understood the delay considering we weren't directly at the bar. This location didn't have the cider on draft that I liked from the other location but they did give us an iPad to look at their drinks. Cool feature! Unpleasant experience. Dined there with my family and was seated in the very loud bar area (which was to be expected.). Asked the hostess to move us to the dining area which had at least 5 empty tables but was told "all the tables have reservations." Ok. Ordered dinner which was severely under cooked, both my wife's and mine, and I broke my own rule and sent it back. Waiter - well, I saw him once. Once. No checking on refills of beer or soda, etc. As we walked out I guess all the "reservations" must have cancelled because there was now like 6-7 open tables. Yeah -ooook. Will not be going back.
