I love a good rural grocery/convenience store... they have the best variety and usually have great products and this one was no different. They have a lunch and ice cream counter, they carry the local bakers goodies, nice coffee beans, and all the staples and sundries you'd hope to find in a convenience store. They have seating indoors and outdoors. All items are paid for at the indoor counter. The ice cream window exists but it is not actually in use. I got a scoop of 3 nerds and a red head by 3 nerds and a red head and I ate it outside. It was a really interesting scoop of coconut ice cream with raspberry. I kind of wish I had gotten the chocolate and raspberry scoop - but it was delicious. I regret not sitting in the cow chairs and taking selfies... but I had a pleasant sit and eat outside. read more

We stopped by here on a cold November day to warm our fingers and feet. Once we stepped in, the smell of coffee permeated and the warm table area seemed inviting. We understood this used to be where locals would sell their milk, so of course we had to try some. Being lactose intolerant I was a little weary of the after-effects. However the smooth rich taste of the fresh milk was like nothing I've ever experienced, it actually helped soothe my stomach, and I had no common side-effects. Yes, the prices here are high, but the goods are high quality, and these are local products that are hard to find. The Old Creamery is definitely a place worth checking out for us tourists. Made our trip to Western MA memorable. read more

The Old Creamery is more than ice cream, it is the best little secret sandwich shop in the hilltown, Ma area. If you are familiar with the Vermont Country Store, you know that there are lots of homemade side dishes, both hot and cold, a beautiful large deli, and lots of homemade desserts. This is what the store offers too. There is a little grocery so every type of drink or other side snack or amenity that you could want is also here. I think surprised isn't understatement. When I walked in and saw that vegetarian and gluten free options at the deli, I am most died and went to heaven. I had some delicious unique thing with mushrooms that I can't even remember because I devoured it so quick. I think I was supposed to share it with somebody and can clearly remember they're shocked look on their face when he saw me take the last bite. I would take this side note to thank my boyfriend who ran out into the streets to rescue a binder full of their order sheets that had escaped someone's hands. ;) It was a little bit like watching Frogger while sitting out at a picnic table. I would highly recommend this to anybody in the area. Correction, make it a point to go to this shop, because nobody really comes by this neck of the woods unless something calls you to it:-) read more

Great small market with fresh local produce. Beautiful food prepared in house at the deli. Some items a bit pricey but worth it for quality and convenience. Nothing else like it and membership helps everyone including small discounts. Love this place! read more

Being the only store in town, they are very convenient. The food is great! The vibe is a little off. Not very welcoming and the prices have been high before inflation. Would recommend but would be nice if there was another store in town to give it competition :) read more

Came back here a few weeks ago and its still the same, awesome place. They have changed the layout a bit but the food is still amazing, top-quality tastiness. despite it's rural setting, this place still does brisk business and locals hang out here all the time. besides their amazing BLT sandwiches, another must are their sweets and desserts. Their rhubarb-strawberry pie was perfect. Slightly tart, not too sweet and flaky, buttery crust. Another winner was their chocolate mini cake with vanilla frosting. Moist and light, not so heavy that you feel loaded down afterwards. The guys who work the cash are really friendly and chatty as well. read more

There is nothing like this place for miles around. A community-owned operation, it of course highlights local produce and goodies made from local produce, most recently strawberries and related pies. There's a space for local artists and handcrafters to sell their stuff. The food is excellent, fresh and of high quality. We had a vegetarian sandwich with sundried tomatoes, which was very tasty, and two marvelous sides of dill potatoes and coleslaw. And we snacked on cookies from here all the way back to Boston. read more

We made the trip between Northampton and the Berkshires nearly every weekend for a few years, and regularly stopped at the Old Creamery -- or, as we affectionately dubbed it, "The Cow," so-called because of the large fiberglass (?) cow on the roof. Though they sell gas (for ridiculously high prices), this is way more than just an isolated convenience store in a charming building. Inside there's a largely organic, mostly gourmet market; a robust wine selection; and -- most importantly -- an amazing deli with eat-in tables available for weary travelers. I've had the most fun picking single servings of dishes that appeal to me, though there are more standard sandwiches and hot dogs available. I've especially enjoyed the daily special quiche, the green beans with sesame seeds, and, best of all, the cranberry-almond couscous. The food is simple, flavorful and creative. Everything I've tried has blown me away -- it puts yuppie salad bar/deli institutions like Whole Foods to shame with its superior flavors and cheaper prices (though it's not fast food prices, by any means). If you happen upon something you especially like from the deli case, you can get a big container to take home -- this is, fundamentally, a local market, after all. If you're hitting The Cow during the spring, summer or fall harvest seasons, you may get the opportunity to buy some beautiful local produce as well, either to eat in or to take home. The Cow offers local products for sale, such as ceramics, soaps and the like. This fits well with the crunchy vibe -- also evident in the available reading material while you eat, which includes old issues of Mother Jones and the Utne Reader. Last time I was at The Cow -- and I'll confirm when we're back this summer -- they had a piece of posterboard on the wall by one of the doors listing animals that had been seen in the area. It was always a fun read, with little kids contributing and the local pranksters adding Sasquatch sightings. If it's still there, take a few minutes and enjoy a chuckle before you get back on the road. read more

The Old Creamery is an oasis in the middle of an empty stretch of Route 9. I often go this way from Pittsfield to Boston, take a break here and I am amazed that the place is always packed. And, I mean always. I did not know that there were that many people who lived in the area and who could support a place with "ah-hem" premium prices. It is far from the typical small town general store. The Old Creamery has a lot of natural and unusual items. It is filled with plenty of things from local farms and dairies. It makes great sandwiches and has wonderful local ice cream. I would not think that it should replace your weekly trip to the supermarket -- especially at these prices -- but it is a nice, upscale spot that could find a home in trendy parts of Boston or New York. You should definitely come here, have a cup of tea and a piece of pie to revive you during your trip. read more

Live close to the Old Creamery, and usually hike the trails in Cummington, so I appreciate this bright spot in the middle of the hills for a good meal and fantastic local goods. I am amazed at how busy this spot is on any given day, which says allot for the place. Some locals and some tourists. The lines are never long and the waiting time on your food is never long. The folks working there are usually kind, and very hospitable. Hit this place for lunch, sandwiches are really good!!! read more

Definitely the place to stop if you are between the Berkshires and Northampton/Pioneer Valley area. I stop almost everyday to get coffee and scones, or other delicious morning treats. I found the grill cheese incredibly good, as well as bagels, and other fresh made snacks. The grocery is well stack with local organic products (veggie, fruits, and cheese) as well as all sort of necessaries. Everyone is really nice and welcoming. Cute little grocery store with local produce and a HUGE selection of sandwiches. Definitely a hidden gem! Got lots of fun unique snacks here for our trip to Mass Moca. My corn chowder was delicious and so were our two sandwiches. Definitely worth getting lunch here and there are tables to sit inside. read more

Stopped by not knowing anything about the place when out on a scenic drive in Hampshire County. We were absolutely pleased with our great lunch, the coffee, home-made ice cream and the bag of coffee beans I brought back to our little cottage a few towns away. While we live 3 hours away, we have family out here and come to the Creamery 4-5 times a year because I love their breakfasts. We also come during Fair weekend because it's the last stop for "real food". If you are looking for cheap, you are in the wrong place. If you are looking for ethical nutrition and yummy tastes, you have found it. For $25 we both had a coffee and our creation of a bread-less bacon/egg/cheese on top of fresh vegetables. I'm a huge fan of the roasted portobello, peppers, and capers over spinach lettuce tomato onion. My partner got the sautéed kale and garlic. We are both happy. (He thinks he will be hungry again in an hour, but I know I won't) Side note - the eggs are the yellow rectangle patties, but it's forgivable. I've also had the Reuben as a salad - and that was heavenly. This place is also a general store and had a great selection of groceries, herbals, bulk spices, and other sundries. read more

I love supporting local businesses and especially coops but this place misses the mark. The deli foods seems extraordinarily expensive and the wait is extremely long. The final straw was last week when I went in with my kids to get muffins for a friend whose father had just passed. She requested blueberry so in an attempt to find a blueberry muffin I had asked the younger girl behind the deli counter w glasses and curly dark hair if they had any other muffins in the back. Without looking up she gruffly said, no. So I asked her what the flavor of the muffins out were (red berries, maybe cranberry or raspberry and no sign in sight?!) and VERY rudely and again, without even looking at me she said, "Read the sign". Wow. There was an older woman who had witnessed the exchange and came out from behind the counter to politely tell me the signs are up so high that most people miss them. I appreciated her trying to be nice to make up for the rude employee but we were so uncomfortable that we just left. Such a shame. read more

We visited mid afternoon on Columbus Day, so I don't know if it was just the crowd but we found the service to be a bit spotty and indifferent. We'll probably make another visit though when in the vicinity as we took home a couple of vegetable dishes from their small deli area and found them both to be excellent. read more

Decent place for some groceries, with a moderate markup due to being quite a bit in the hilltowns, so it's entirely understandable.
