Most of the food we had was good or very good. Our server was very nice and provided great service. She even handled the issue that makes this a 3 Star Review very well. The Manager did too. But if you're a respected chophouse, you can't get a steak wrong three times in a row. Frogtown offers a signature mixed grill experience that has a 16 ounce strip, a lobster tail, a crab cake, a few sides (whipped potatoes, long strips of carrots and delicious garlicky mushrooms). It's over $100, but really a pretty good value with all you get. My wife and I decided to split this. I ordered the steak medium rare, which is important to the review. The lobster tail was very good. The crab cake was meaty and good. The carrots were a highlight. The whipped potatoes were good. As was the creamed spinach the table shared. The calamari app (which was a bit heavy on the batter) and burrata app (needed more tomatoes) were both decent. The strip steak was the issue. As our server delivered the plate, she said "when you get a chance, could you cut the steak open and make sure it's done to your liking." I've never had a server in a nice steak restaurant ask me to do this before. It's not a good look. They should already know. I assumed she was concerned it was undercooked. I pressed my knife against the steak. Because I grill steaks, I knew that it was medium well or well done. I said "well, I can tell it's not underdone." I cut the steak down the middle. And it was medium well or well done. I very, very rarely send food back. But at a respected chop house, and at that price, I sent it back. And frankly, it wasn't a big deal at that stage because we had plenty of other food. A manager came out with a new steak. She apologized. Again, I was asked to cut it open. I pressed my knife against the new steak. I knew even before I cut it, because the steak squished as I pressed it. This time -- it wasn't even rare yet. So I had to send it back again. The steak came back. I cut it down the middle of one of the halves. It was a little more done, but it was on the borderline of being rare and undercooked still. I wasn't going to send the steak back a third time. So I ate the parts closest to the ends and sides. The steak was too chewy and underseasoned. I don't know what was going on. Maybe a regular chef was out and an inexperienced person had to step up. In any event, if you're famous for your steaks, you can't have those kinds of misses. Also, the plating of this experience could use a fresh look. Everything was put on the same plate and it was really crowded. 3 Stars

We decided to order the Deluxe Grill Mix ($175) which came with a variety of meats on top of some grilled vegetables and salad. There were a variety of steak cuts and were all well seasoned and tender. Their fries were closer to a thick potato chip but still tasty and crispy. The Deluxe Grill Mix came along with a large platter of hummus along with a bowl of chopped salad and pitas. Hummus tasted fresh and had a great smooth texture which complemented well with the pitas. The chopped salad was refreshing but needed a pinch of salt. There's also a little trail in the back along the creek that was great after our meal. Overall, I really enjoyed my lunch here and would recommend this place to anyone looking for something a little off the beaten path. Tip: You might miss it if you drive too fast and not see their sign.

They took it back, but brought a Black Russian with so much Kaluha that it was way too sweet and dark. They tried a third time and finally got it right! So, while we had a few issues, the staff was all friendly. The bar had to be cleaned off when we got there, even though there was only one person there, but they did it without our asking. They did their best to make things right.

I read "twinkie" and think some form of cake/bread with a filling. What we got was more of an egg roll. The outside was either a wonton type wrap or a tortilla then filled with brisket, cream cheese, cheddar cheese, jalapeño, and BBQ sauce. This was very delicious but definitely misleading in the name and the menu didnt really describe the item, it only give the name and listed the ingredients. I bring this up because we also ordered the traditional pizza.... what we got was more of a flatbread and pretty bland as well. Super basic bread with a lack of flavor marinara sauce and cheese. Also the sauce to cheese ratio was sad. You can tell this because all the cheese on the slice would come right off with 1 bite. We would not order this again based on the price and what was served. I also had the French onion soup. This was pretty well done. Not to salty, no crazy cheeses added. It was well balanced and was worth getting. My partners entree was the barley creek whiskey BBQ sauce on chicken tenders. These were just ok. The sauce seemed more tomatoe based then normal for a BBQ sauce and again just wasn't what one would expect from the name whiskey Bbq sauce. I am sure people do like this place but it wasn't very impressive to us. 3 out 5 stars is a fair rating as service was good for the most part, the place was clean with a decent amount of menu options, but the execution of the food lacked and the menu names are definitely misleading for the items we had ordered.

The food was honestly the best part of the night -- a solid 4.5/5. Unfortunately, the overall experience was nowhere near what we expected from a restaurant at this price point. We started with the calamari, which was excellent. The giardiniera with it was an unexpected flavor combination that I loved. They also brought out an enormous loaf of fresh-baked Asiago bread with butter -- way more than two people needed, but damn, it was good. Both came out within minutes of ordering. We also ordered the cherry-smoked Old Fashioneds, and they were fantastic. Probably one of the best things we had all night. The presentation was really impressive: instead of simply smoking the glass, the cocktail arrived inside a glass box filled with smoke. The server placed it in front of us and we opened the door ourselves, letting the smoke roll out around the drink. Really cool presentation, and the cocktail tasted every bit as good as it looked. The problem? It took nearly 30 minutes to get them. They were so good I absolutely would have ordered a second round, but after waiting that long for the first one, we weren't willing to chance it. That's a missed sale and, more importantly, a missed part of the experience. In fact, we had finished our calamari before our drinks ever arrived. From the time we were seated, it took close to 10 minutes for our server to return for our drink and appetizer order, and then nearly another 30 minutes for the cocktails -- even after we reminded her. Our server was very sweet, but the interaction felt extremely scripted rather than genuine. We heard essentially the exact same questions and phrases repeated word-for-word at the tables on either side of us. She was also very slow getting back to us throughout the meal. For dinner, we shared the ribeye and Caesar salad because we were hoping to save room for dessert -- it was my birthday. The steak was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. At $60, it was exactly what I expected it to be. The Caesar was huge and very good. Everything we ate was delicious, although the food presentation felt surprisingly basic for the type of restaurant Double Cut positions itself to be. The bigger disappointment started before we even sat down. When we arrived, there were several people waiting and no host anywhere in sight. Multiple employees walked past carrying to-go orders without acknowledging anyone or even saying someone would be right with us. Because the entrance also serves Red's Piano Bar, we actually started wondering whether we were even in the right place. When the host finally appeared, there was no hello, no smile, no welcome. Just, "Do you have a reservation?" We gave him our name and were told, very matter-of-factly, that we would have to wait a few minutes. Five minutes later, he returned and led us directly into Red's Piano Bar. That was not what we had reserved. We specifically made a reservation at Double Cut for a quieter, elevated birthday dinner. Instead, we were being seated in a loud bar with red lighting, TVs on the walls and a table just feet from the bar. When we explained that our reservation was for Double Cut, we were told it was the same menu and that if we didn't sit there, we would have to wait considerably longer. So we sat. And frankly, that pretty much took the air out of the evening. Brian had planned a nice, romantic birthday dinner for me. Instead, we were sitting in a bar booth while he tried not to watch the baseball game playing on the TVs. It felt more like sitting in the bar area of a Chili's -- except without the Chili's hospitality or Chili's prices. Even the person who delivered our steak simply asked us to cut into it, said "enjoy," and walked away. No smile. No warmth. Completely transactional. Needless to say, we didn't stay for birthday dessert. We ate what we had ordered, paid the bill and left. The frustrating part is that the kitchen and bar are clearly doing a lot right. The food was genuinely very good, and that cherry-smoked Old Fashioned was outstanding. But at this price point, you're not just paying for a steak and a great cocktail. You're paying for hospitality, atmosphere, pacing and an experience. That part missed the mark by a mile.

When the entrees arrived, everyone at the table received their meal except me. The server asked if everyone had their food, and I told her that I was still waiting for my Steak Frites special. She checked her order book, said something, and walked away. Unfortunately, no one returned to update us. After waiting another 10 minutes, I encouraged the rest of my family and friends to begin eating so their meals wouldn't get cold. When there was still no update, I flagged down another server, who said they would check with the kitchen. A few minutes later, they returned and said they weren't sure what had happened but that my meal was being prepared. After another 10 minutes passed, I asked to speak with a manager. I was told there wasn't a manager available and that they understood my frustration. By this point, it was nearly 9:30 p.m., my entire table had nearly finished eating, and I still hadn't received my dinner. When my steak finally arrived, it wasn't what I had ordered. I had ordered the NY Strip Steak Frites special but instead received a 10-ounce sirloin. Again, the explanation was simply that they weren't sure what had happened--perhaps another guest had received my order or there had been a mistake in the kitchen. To the restaurant's credit, they removed my steak from the bill. However, what disappointed me most wasn't the mistake itself--it was the lack of communication and customer service. Throughout the entire situation, no one came back to provide updates, apologize directly, or offer a meaningful resolution. In fact, my server never spoke to me directly about the issue after realizing there had been a problem; I learned my meal had been removed from the bill through another member of our party. Mistakes happen in every restaurant, especially on a busy night. What leaves a lasting impression is how those mistakes are handled. Unfortunately, while the food we did receive was good, the customer service fell well short of what I expected.

When we asked where he was from, he shared his story -- traveling far and taking risks at a young age to pursue his happiness.
