It's okay. I got the whole wheat pancake an gingerbread. It wasn't as fluffy as the buttermilk but was hearty. My omlettw was a bit too oily. Never had a oily om letter before. Usually brown liquid should not come out of an omlette. But at least I tried something new. read more

When this place was on Burnet it was much better. Now the service and food are lacking for what you pay. I'm not an omelette person but my buddy is and he wanted to go here on a weekday morning. So we loaded up and left South Austin before the traffic could really hit. When we arrived, the wait person quickly sat us and got coffee and water. Attentiveness stopped there... My friend got the house omelette and I got the "egonomical" which is basic eggs and bacon with two pancakes. Eggs were fine and worked well with side toast but the bacon was awful. I was pretty disappointed in this place after seeing how long it had been in business and assuming that it had the food to support that kind of longevity. I got eggs Benedict and pancakes and the best thing I can say about it is the eggs were cooked perfectly and that's about it. I came with a party of 6 or so on a Sunday morning and the wait was over an hour. In all honesty, The Omelettry was not worth a wait at all. I would rather wait at Bangers or Snooze for their food rather than here. I'm not saying their food was terrible, but it wasn't worth waiting over an hour for. The bad: Bacon. Everyone at our table ordered something with bacon, whether it was on the side, in the omelette, or in the sandwich. And everyone agreed it tasted like burnt cardboard. The chances of messing up bacon are slim, but this place did it. I've never seen so many people set aside their bacon because it was inedible. The good: Pancakes. It pains me to report that The Omelettry has seen better days. The Burnett Road location used to be one of my favorite spots to meet friends for breakfast. After checking out the new Airport location, it has become obvious that the charming atmosphere was responsible for 95% of my fondness for the old location. Unfortunately, the new location has none of that charm. The meal: - A hot cup of coffee faithfully refilled, check! Points for...coffee - Homefries, very delicious thank you. - Chicken Salad Sandwich...beware! I'm sure not many people order this, so maybe they were unprepared. I've been going to the Omelettry for years and years. Although I miss the old location a little, I think they've done a good job at preserving the vibe at the new location with Dr. Seuss paintings and a lot of natural wood. Like it! But what I really need to praise is how great the staff have been to me and my kid. A few weeks ago, my 5-year-old got his fingers pinched in the car door in the parking lot, so I took him into the restroom to run cold water over his hand. One of the servers noticed and got him a glove full of ice -- and then a towel to wrap it in too when he asked! There are little cups of toys and crayons available for the little ones. Plus this is one of only a few places in town where my son and I can eat the pancakes -- they have a gluten-free option, and they're moist and delicious too! In general, the food here is plain, but the portions are generous, service is fast and friendly, and everything is prepared well. I looked around to the tables around me to discover that several were battling flies as well. Had driven by the Omelettry to and from work daily but never stopped in before...decided to try breakfast there this morning. When it comes to restaurants, I have one major pet peeve, and the Omelettry does it - you walk in and you don't know whether you are supposed to seat yourself or wait for someone to seat you. Argh, this drives me absolutely NUTS. No sign, nobody at the door, but there is a cash register right there - do I wait? Do I walk in and grab a table on my own? Hey Omelettry, first suggestion - please put a SIGN at the door that says "Please Seat Yourself" or "A waiter will seat you" - is that too much to ask? I noticed there were available stools at the counter and grabbed one, but would have much preferred to be seated by an actual human being - like most restaurants do. Decor is typical hipster Austin...a shabby-chic diner vibe. There are egg-themed child-like crayon drawings all over the wall. I say child-like because upon closer inspection, it becomes cringing-ly obvious that the drawings were done by adults. One drawing directly in front of me was captioned "don't scream in public"...what the heck does that mean? Is that a message to customers for when they get their bill? Food was meh. Nothing better or worse than your standard breakfast fare you can get at iHop or Dennys for cheaper. read more

Because if it's 2:30 pm and you're craving pancakes for lunch, you should have options that don't come from the freezer aisle. Solid brunch spot. My friends and I were seated quickly and nestled in a cozy booth. Place is pretty casual, so expect a fair amount of bustling and noise. Our waitress was attentive and funny, and quickly resolved any questions or concerns (like a lil smudge on a water cup that needed just one more pass through the dishwasher). I ordered 2 pancakes (yay whole wheat chocolate chip and gingerbread!) and a bowl of yogurt. The pancakes were phenomenal, and also the size of the plate. The gingerbread flavor was strong, but not overpowering. The chocolate chip pancakes were decadent, and they even put extra chocolate chips on top, so I was more than pleased. I couldn't finish. The yogurt was very clearly plain and a bit too tart for me. The once-frozen blueberries did their best to jazz up the bowl, but having had many outstanding parfaits in my day, I was turned off. For the price, I would return for pancakes and to continue eating my friends' omelettes for sure! And to prevent other newbs like myself from waiting for a check - you pay at the counter before you leave. Have an eggcellent meal! read more

Don't waste your time. We received our drinks and placed our food order. After placing our order and approximately 20 minutes of waiting and no check in from our waitress on how are doing and an update on how long our food will take. We stopped our waitress to ask how long on our food she says they are really busy and let her check. She comes back from kitchen and says they have started our order while walking away she says we are busy so.. as if we need to have patience and she said some other things to us which we could not hear. At that point I asked for our check and she then finally stops and says I told your food is coming we are really busy I told you we are busy. So we asked for our check again considering it was not getting any better and I had a flight to catch. I was looking forward to trying them but the poor service ruined my appetite. read more

My wife and kids have never been here before and we were very excited to eat here. First, there were 4 of us and there was a large booth that was open that would accommodated a larger party. It was given to a party of two and offered us a table (4 top) that we politely declined. We said we wanted a booth and waited until one was available. The woman who sat never greeted us or asked us if this was are first time here, your server is so and so, you know the normal things severs/hosts/manager's day when you first come to a restaurant. The food was ok, but the coffee was really bad which was strange for Austin. The place was clean and had a cool decor. I've been here before during the busiest hours of a morning rush. My girlfriend and I decided to come around 3pm and have a late brunch. The service was mediocre and we had two separate waitresses that made us both feel like we were an inconvenience from the moment we sat down. I'm unsure if they both were having a bad day so we both waited and observed how others were being treated and greeted. Unfortunately, it was different and seemingly more pleasant encounters that in involved smiles and "what can I get for you today". At this point you can help but think you're being discriminated against, or worse. These servers both women care more about talking to one another then making sure we both were assisted. My admin told me she was coming here for lunch and asked me if I wanted anything. Thinking they only served breakfast I told her no. After I looked at the menu I changed my mind. They have a nice variety of items to choose from! I choose the Chef's salad with turkey. Super yummy and HUGE! Packed with veggies, packaged neatly with mashed avocado served on the side. I used to eat here about 4 times/week because it was so convenient for my work schedule :) Sadly, with my new job I never make it over there. I miss those fluffy cakes and perfectly cooked eggs. I remember coming to the Omelettry back when Austin felt like Austin in 2009 for a visit with friends. It was at the lil hole in the wall old location with all the awesome art on the sides of the building and on the inside of all the different art works of eggs which I thought was hilarious. The food was really good so I thought now that I live in Austin, I wanted to take my boyfriend out to a place that I was glad to hear is still open and a nostalgic experience for me. Well sadly the old location was bought out by another company from what I understood from the cashier. We went on a Sunday about brunch time and the line was long as I expected. There was some cold water offered to the people waiting outside. I'm sure that the Soup Peddler which is right next door hates the crowds as it flows onto their patio area for their guests. Anyways, yes the new location is larger than the original. I like the big windows, and there is more seating. There are some of those funny egg art works over the bar area, and an interesting mural with Dr. Seuss characters on it. The waitresses looked over worked and exhausted, the feeling of them being understaffed is very heavily noticed. There's also a "hiring" sign at the front door. I felt bad for them. We were seated at a dirty table which the hostess had cleaned off right then and there herself (whoever buses the tables is either non existent or works at a snails pace). Menus were placed and drinks were ordered. I had the feeling if we didn't have our order up as soon as our waitress came over that we were doomed to be there for an hour more than I wanted to be. I picked the Burnet Road Benedict, my boyfriend got a House Special with no bell peppers and we got a overly priced side of bacon. First mistake... don't get a Benedict at place that specializes in Omelettes. It was done right.. but omg their queso is awful. Just .. no taste.. seriously is this cheese? I didn't want to finish my meal because it was so gross. Luckily my boyfriend let me have some of his omelette which was ofc yummy. The bacon was $5 with tax and these little brick hard pieces of pencil thin bacon was laughable. I would've taken a picture but me typing this review has already become a book. I feel bad because obviously this place has taken some hard knocks. Burnet Road isn't what it used to be, and neither are the businesses. Will I go back? Probably not to be honest. Too far from where I live, over-priced, and not the happiest of atmospheres. It's a nice place, just very lack luster. Best advice I can give anyone is the lesson I learned: Don't get something different at a place that specializes in a certain food, like Omelettes. *shrugs* I hope things turn around for the place. I had a pretty miserable time here this last Sunday. We arrived at 11:05 with a group of 6 and based on asking around, it looked like an hour wait which seemed reasonable for our size and time. After an hour, we were only given the option of splitting up (they had small booths and very few movable tables) or waiting longer, so we decided to split up. We immediately placed our order, but then had to wait another forty five minutes before getting our food. Our entire brunch took two hours just to eat omelettes. The worst part was at the end, we got our bill and paid and left. After leaving, the guys at the other table asked us if we had paid as well because they ended up getting charged for both our tables. We paid twice for our meal, so we called to get it sorted out but the restaurant claimed that our table *never paid*. We explained that we could see the pending charge on our card and that we clearly paid, even referencing the exact amount and tips. So far this still hasn't been resolved. read more

Underwhelmed. Used to go to the old location and liked it. I've tried the new location twice. The atmosphere and layout better at the new place, but the service and food were not great. Today the host who sat us was very glum and not friendly. Someone at my table asked what had happened to the big window, and she replied flatly, "It got broken," and then walked away. Ok, gee, thanks. Then the waitress came and took our order. She was fast and responsive but also not friendly - no smile. Seemed somber. The food came out fast - nice. Ok food comments: Eggs over easy were perfect. The toast was nice and crisp. The sausages were YUMMY! The pancakes were HUGE - fine but way too big. The bacon was a crying shame! The thinnest bacon I've ever seen - it looked like a toy - and tasted blah. Not sure if it was real, hardly ate any. The coffee was dreadful - weak and watery. New location, old menu. Sometimes, character comes through perseverence, sticking to what you know. You would be hardpressed to find more than a handful of establishments in Austin that stick to American (perhaps, Tex-Mex as well) classics... with no sign of fanciness and unique menu items. The Omelettry falls into this camp. Here you will find classic omelets, my favorite being the cheese option... smothered with none other than Velveeta queso. Furthermore, you receive two sides, one of which I would highly recommend to be their over-cooked home fries. Large chunks of potato boast a burned one or two sides of the oddly-shaped starch. Black beans sit pretty high on the priority list as well. Aside from omelets, you can have a good ol' turkey sandwich or perhaps some granola and yogurt--with refined sugar, of course. The Omelettry sits in the good balance of straightforward diner fare but keeping prices low to bring in the masses, loyalists to this Austin institution. read more

No I didn't order eggs, but leaving here I couldn't help but be reminded that I'm a little more sunny-side up than scrambled. And not much of an omelet fan. The Buttermilk pancakes are top notch. Maybe the best I've ever had. That earned them 3 stars alone. The rest of my experience? 0 stars. The Special Coffee? A buck more and the promise of a roast that's darker and better than the regular house blend. Not so special. Still watery and a disservice to the quality coffee that Anderson Roasters roasts. 85 cents per item per pancake? Want bananas, pecans, or chocolate chips on your pancakes? That's the price. Almost too expensive if you want more than one item. Home fries? Make them at home instead. Never been to the old location, but the interior of this is very nice. But not the restrooms. They are dumpy and should match the restaurant interior's quality. The syrup was good, but I prefer warm syrup than it just to be sitting on the table. The butter is out of this world and helped make the pancakes the real star of the show. Side Rant: If a place this average has an hour wait for brunch, we're beyond comfortable capacity in Austin.
