You have a huge assortment of hot teas and fruit! Hot tea comes with an additional metal cup with a lid of hot water. Not something you see at most breakfast places. We also got the house special, granola with yogurt and fruit, French toast (6 triangles of toast) with a huge dollop of butter with a side of pear. Everything came out so fast! On a Sunday afternoon, place was buzzing, but we got a spot within 5 mins. Service was quick and polite- they even dropped off small toys at the table for the kids. But, food was very mid. For a place called omelette, the omelettes weren't anything to write home about. We got the Spanish and vegetable omlettes and they were pretty boring in flavor. We doused them in hot sauce to add flavor. Similarly, the buttermilk pancakes tasted like a standard mix. The home fries were tasty though. Someone called this place an "Austin institution" and I don't know what's there except for the leftover history. I paid $18 for an omelet and got this. Runny mess. The chicken tasted stale and had a gross smell. I asked to replace the bacon in my omelet but they cannot replace it. Charged $3 for chicken and served me this. The first server who came to us for water and coffee had a rough morning. The Omelettry is one of those iconic Austin gems that was an essential part of my teens & 20's. The portions are generous, the prices are "old Austin" and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. It's got the same vibe as it probably did back in the 70's--"when you're here, you're family". Our favorite Omelettry menu items: Their omelettes are huge and AWESOME. We love the Popeye's, Broccoli Sour Cream, and Spanish omelettes. Their pancakes are huge, fluffy and delicious. Queso is spot-on and good with everything (you can order a side of queso with anything and it'll make it significantly yummier). We also love their soups, and they'll have several soup options every day. A couple of other fun things worth mentioning: --Notice the colorful aprons hanging in the windows as window coverings. These are all the aprons from all the waitstaff from the past ~45 years. --Look for the paper mache fried egg on the ceiling; it came over from their original Burnet Rd. location and has lived in the restaurant since its start. --See if Kenny or Jesse are around! They're the super sweet and friendly owners; Kenny opened the Omelettry in 1978. read more

I have been eating at The Omelettry for over a decade and I can honestly say it's simply good food. Nothing fru-fru that I couldn't make myself, so I go for the ambiance. The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff have improved. (Shortly after the pandemic they chapped by hide a time or two.) But times are better and the staff are back to friendly efficiency. Food was decent even though gingerbread pancakes are extremely dry. The problem we had is the only person that was friendly was the lady who sat us at the table and got our drinks. The blonde waitress didn't even introduce herself and it took some time for her to take our order when we noticed others who sat down after and ordered. When paying at the register that young lady had absolutely no business being there... she didn't not speak a SINGLE WORD, not a smile, not a "kiss my ______". Cannot believe I have never published a review. Been coming here intermittently the last 5 years during my visits to see my brother in Austin. Definitely my top 5. The staff is so cordial and friendly to everyone. First, their coffee is my ideal of perfection. Not too bold but not bland or indifferent. The seating is comfortable. Doesn't feel like being in a cafeteria or food court at a mall. Think cozy, classic diner. The menu has something for everyone. My favorite is the gingerbread pancake. Wish I could take them back home with me. I had a cheese omelette on the last day here. The home fries it came with sealed the deal. Good food and lots of it! Love this place. Great, nostalgic atmosphere. All the tables are covered with oilcloth (aka colorful, thick, plastic-coated tablecloth material). Waist aprons hang in the windows for fun sun blocks. The food was delicious and the portions were more than ample. We tried banana pancakes, huevos rancheros, and a vegetarian omelette. All yummy. The service was good, not exceptional. Everyone was polite. And to be fair, we probably came at the end of their busy time. Come visit this place and bring a big appetite. read more

I don't know why Magnolia and Kerbey Lane get all the glory as being Austin's OG diners, because the Omelettry gets everything right. My parents always request stopping here when they visit. The food I ordered and was served was edible and wasn't disgusting. That being said, it was very bad and a complete gimmick. I ordered a grilled cheese with avacado on sourdough. I got a few slices of avacado on lightly toasted bread that was so cheap it tasted much closer to plain white than genuine sourdough. Inside my "grilled cheese" was one single slice of cheese. Since the sandwich seemed to have barely been heated the cheese hadn't melted; I was able to easily take it off my sandwich and split the square slice in two hard pieces, not in any way melted. I was not served a grilled cheese but instead a cheap avacado sandwich with minimal unmelted cheese. It was $12 and was something I could've easily created in my kitchen for a few dollars and I likely could've made it better. The side of bacon I ordered was clearly pre-cut poked low quality bacon slices. $4 for four pieces when a 12 slice pack of the same bacon costs $5. It was probably the most overpriced and underwhelming bacon I've ever been served. The home fries that came with my sandwich were dreadful. Not only was it an unattractive stack of potato, it took up most of my plate to compensate for the very lackluster sandwich. The "home fries" were essentially just a blob of sliced potato poorly cooked and with absolutely no seasoning, incredibly bland and gross. My girlfriend ordered scrambled eggs and waffles. She said the eggs were cooked right but tasted cheap and the pancakes were clearly made from a cheap mix, the opposite of what to expect from homemade fresh food. The bill for two people came to $35 when seemingly about $10 worth of ingredients were used and the quality was so low I almost got a bit sick. One of the worst breakfast spots in Austin, I absolutely regret giving this place my business and will never return to eat their poor food again. I went here for breakfast with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. I got the Popeye's Favorite which had Fresh spinach, crisp bacon and sauteed onions inside a cheese omelette topped with sour cream but I opted to skip the sour cream. She got the Black Olive omelette which came with Ripe olives and tomatoes with lemon sour cream sauce and cheese. For omelettes, you have the option to choose one side from fixed options or 2 smaller sides from a different set of options. I chose a salad as my side while she chose buttermilk pancakes. We enjoyed it all! The salad was pleasantly surprising because I was expecting a Caesar salad but their side salad had sprouts, black olives, tomatoes and lettuce - it made me very happy. The eggs were also delicious but to be honest, not filling at all. It didn't feel like it was made with 3 eggs (the menu states that all omelettes are made with 3 eggs). After my eggs and salad, I had to top up with a little of my friend's pancake to feel just right. That said, staff were friendly and the restaurant felt like a casual place to grab a meal and catch up with friends. I would recommend going there and would certainly get a side of their salad the next time I go. read more

I have been eating at The Omelettry for decades. I used to be there several times a month when they were still on Burnet. I don't get to go as often these days since their Airport location isn't as convenient for me. Regardless, the food and service is ever bit as good as I remember. I almost always get the #1 which is a plain cheese omelet. I choose the option that comes with 2 buttermilk pancakes. Both the omelet and the pancakes are some of the best I've ever had. I'm a geek and usually sneak in my own maple syrup since I'm no fan of regular table syrup. I usually get a side order of bacon too. Prices are reasonable and while wait times can be high at times, this only shows how good it is. I'll be back again and again. read more

The home fries where excellent and my friend could not stop eating them. I went ahead and ordered pancakes with a veggie omelette alongside a glass of grapefruit juice. The juice was my joy. Oh my! The portions are huge and can probably be shared if you want to do family style. My first time here and would definitely come back!! I arrived around 11:45, and the wait time was about 45mins (which i would expect on a Sunday). Once sat down, we were immediately offered water or a drink, which was nice. I ordered the veggie omelette with ham added, home fries, buttermilk pancakes, and bottomless house coffee. The veggie omelette was good. Only thing I didn't like about it was the avocado that was more like guacamole. Other than that, it was great. I also got a side of salsa to eat with it. Home fries were AMAZING 10/10. Buttermilk pancakes were amazing as well. The restaurant itself is cute and quirky. The staff is super nice. They weren't too attentive (which I'm totally fine with), due to them being short staffed and it was super busy. The servers were, however, refilled our water and coffee pretty regularly. Love it! I got the Popeye's Favorite omelet with pancake side, banana added and my companion got the egg breakfast, over easy with bacon and pancakes. Both of us got coffee with our meals and neither were disappointed with anything. We got a table right away, everyone was really nice. The place was charming and clean and smelled yummy.
