We just ordered 3 meals (almost $100) via Uber Eats. I ordered the Sheppards pie for $20 and received a CUP filled with mostly potatoes (cheap) and there was hardly anything else in it. About a $4 meal is what I got. I never complain but we actually had to call thinking we were missing a meal as there was just a small cup of potatoes. Turns out, the one mouthful of meat was at the bottom. Come on Onion... DO BETTER. This is a TOTAL RIP OFF and with all the choices in restaurants, we will not order from here ever again. My husband and I took our family out for dinner. I was looking forward to it as I used to love the Onion and it had been about Five years since I had been there. The service was lacking. It took over an hour to get our food. When we did get it, it was luke warm and the absolute worst meal we have ever eaten. Our two children didn't eat their meals and my husband ate his fries as that was the only thing edible on his plate. mind you his meal was $31. I ordered the baked spaghetti and added chicken to it. It was like eating a microwavable frozen dinner from the grocery store. Just awful. We also ordered mozzarella sticks and they weren't even hot. The cheese was like a string cheese unmelted on the inside. Just such a disappointment, especially when your bill comes and it's almost $140 for two kids meals, mozzarella sticks, and two adult dinners that didn't get eaten. I was seated near the door and asked for $1 of quarters for the parking meter. Not a problem, my server said. Most people need those. I ended up getting the Mega Platter, enough for 4, for my little ol' self, because my daughter was at the doctor's up the road and would be very hungry when she got done. Great place to meet. In fact, they've got a "secret" room in the back where groups can meet, mostly closed off from the general restaurant. I met with about 30 friends there. The organizer asked them to bring us a variety of interesting things to nibble, and most of us made a meal of it. I'm not sure how the server kept track of the first beer included with registration and the rest on a tab, but she did. My bill was correct, even though I bought the occasional drinks for several others. She was amazing and efficient. We also enjoyed a variety of tasty ales. So, the hostess was wonderful! Incredibly welcoming and we were feeling good about our choice for lunch. My husband and I both ordered Moscow mules, which we have had many times at other establishments and know the difference between good and not. One sip and the drink was terrible. My husband starts digging under the ice to find an entire lime cut up in it. There was hardly any drink and it was awful. Picture shown below. When we told the guy who made it and also happened to be our server, he claimed he was trying to make it more limey since the lime weren't juice. By the looks of this place is looks to be a great spot to have dinner, happy hour drinks etc. after booking a reservation and arriving we continued to have a wait to be seated. The service we received from my waitress was interesting and very disturbing. We conversed with myself and my mother in law but acted very differently towards the people of color we had with us. Such as tossing their drum coaster at them like a frisbee. Took several reminders to grab their refills etc. it wasn't a great experience going through that while visiting from out of town. We arrived late afternoon and after walking around for almost an hour in downtown trying to find a place that's open, we finally settled on this place. Waited 45 mins before getting seated, which was fine because we wanted a cooked hot meal. I ordered the Pepper steak and so did two of my friends, one of us ordered medium and the other medium rare. After we got our plates, they were so over cooked the knife could barely cut through the meat. The onion rings were fat bombs. None of the food had any flavor. We spent a lot of money for bad food. The reason I'm giving them 3 stars is because the fish and chips that I order wasn't very good. The fish lacked any flavor or seasoning, and the breading was a bit much for me. The restaurant is nice and cake AZ n the service was great but I just did like what I ordered. But I'll probably give them a second chance if I every return to Spokane. read more

Super fast and our waitress, Mikayla, was great but that's it. I honestly would have rather ate at McDonald's. We stopped after a show at the Spokane Arena, it wasn't busy and we got seated quickly. The mozzarella sticks were lukewarm, needed another minute or 2 in the fryer. The marinara that came with them was like water. My kids orders spaghetti and fish & chips. The spaghetti had so much water in it I had to drain it onto another plate. I had fish tacos, and the fish was over cooked and not seasoned at all. Same with my sons fish & chips. Even the fries were not cooked all the way through. Juice for 2 kids cost $7.50 with no refills. Kinda ridiculous. $75 and it was not good. Beer selection is nice and a flight is a good way to try out a few before committing to a pint. Appetizer and main food options have all been good so far. The burgers and sliders are classic options. The staff is always energetic and welcoming. This point was particularly pleasant when we fell back on the Onion after a walk-out-after-receiving-a-cold-shoulder-move-from-the-wait-staff-at-Ruins experience. ...but I ramble on. A very tasty meal this evening with just a couple of misses. The house made bacon tots are out of this world good and are alone worth a visit. The Cougar gold dipping sauce is, well, extraordinary. My wife enjoyed the turkey club sandwich and was full enough that tomorrow's work lunch is taken care of. I enjoyed the mushroom burger with fries very much. It was cooked exactly as ordered (medium) and was super tasty. The gravy comes on the side so you can add as much as you like, or take the alternate route of dipping. Our waitress was very friendly but we started off the night sans silverware and napkins and ran out of ketchup right out of the blocks. It took a bit to get these items, thus the loss of a star. When walking out the door with a $50+ bill, you kind of hope they get these small details right. We'll certainly be back to enjoy some well prepared food though as the misses were small. read more

Granted, it was graduation night so waiting an hour for food is somewhat explained. However, the food was served cold--all of it and most of it barely edible. The pea salad was devoid of any flavor, even after a heavy hand with salt and pepper. Spaghetti was room temperature and "garlic bread" was a hot dog bun with a little butter on it. The Onion has been a family favorite for 3 generations. A special place for a terrific post game meal. So, to top off our reunion with dear friends who live out of town, after the game we headed to The Onion. Not as crowded as usual, quiet other that the sound on the TV's turned up a bit too high for undistracted conversation. Comfy booth for 4 by the window. We love the ambiance in this historic building that houses the restaurant in authentic decor, warm dark brown wood trimmings, tile floor, pressed metal ceiling, vintage lighting, spectacular bar, lots of fascinating historic photos covering the walls, many portrayal of characters in Spokane's role in the story of the old West. We were seated right away, and as we followed the leader to our booth the receptionist spoke of the day's specials on the menu. Intriguing options. Happy to know we could sample the beer if needed to make our selection from the extensive list. We ordered the onion rings, a house specialty. Perfect as usual. Hot and delicious! Then we ordered two Big O cheese and bacon burgers and two French dips as well as cups of French onion soup, each and all are The O's specialities. The soup was served with the sandwiches, so one or the other would cool down, which they did. In fact, neither the sandwich meat nor the soup was hot, just barely warm enough to eat. Actually, a bit embarrassing based on our enthusiastic recommendation about the food and service we anticipated. We finished up the meal without voicing complaint to each other or our server. Our family tradition is to top off our meal at The Onion with deep fried Oreos, a very uniquely delicious experience. They were perfect as expected. So, the starter and the grand finale were excellent. The meal was a disappointment. If the management works with the cooks and the servers to get back to the excellence we remember, The Onion will once again be a big hit it use to be. read more
