I asked for chicken enchiladas with green chili. Friend asked for a chicken burrito and fries. It took 45 minutes for both of us to get our order, and then only because I went to complain. I was told they were making it. Several times. For half an hour. For a burrito and fries. And when we got home my enchiladas had red chili, not the green I asked for. The food was pretty good, probably the worst service I've ever encountered. I was patient but waited over 40 min for my food and didn't get an apology or even an acknowledgement of the mistake. The new building is nice but VERY unorganized! I ordered one burrito to go and they gave me a number, I asked 'don't I need to pay you?' The lady says you pay when you pickup food. What? Even Burger King charges you after you place the order. So they are only operating on one register and food is coming out of the kitchen quick to then just Sit on the counter to get COLD while one person calls numbers and takes payment! Why not take payment when order is placed and then give the person their HOT food so they can leave? The menu is huge but the font is SO tiny and barley readable from a distance. This place could be raking in the dough like the old location but they seriously need to hire customer friendly front of house people and implement some basic procedures to get people in and out quick. BEST CHILE RELLENO I'VE EVER HAD! I was taken to this place from a Denver insider. It is the BEST I've ever had. I've been to Phoenix, San Diego, LA, Texas, New Mexico, pretty much everywhere. What makes it so great is the idea of "smothered", a bunch of cheese, pork, fresh GREEN CHILE, and pork rinds. It is the perfect amount of crunch and spice and chile. I have been going to Chubby's since I was a little girl. I'm 29 now. Since they opened the new location right next to the old one the food is different. I got my usual chili cheese fries with chicharrones the fries taste burnt the chicharrones had no flavor and the chili wasn't even hot. As I'm reading these comments, I'm thinking all these people complaining about this place can go back to their city's or towns they came from... To give this place a one star is very sad. This restaurant is really good. Their recipes are real unique to what us Denver born and raised ones love. The green chili is the best in the north side. All these stupid fusion restaurants that are all trendy and upscale don't have nothing on chubby's. And if you get food poison, you probably had to much to drink and you can't handle green chili. I have been a loyal customer of Chubby's for 15 years. I have always raved about their food to anyone that would listen. Today I had an online coupon from restaurants.com and presented to the cashier/manager and was told I needed to print it out. The sites terms and conditions stated that I was to show the coupon to the cashier and press the validate button. I am a restaurant manager who has had merchant accounts with Groupon, living social, restaurants.com and yelp advertising. I am also an avid deal seeker. I have have been on both sides of this situation and have never been told or told one of my customers this. My food is on the counter and my wallet is out. She refused to take the restaurants.com coupon or make any effort to rectify the the situation or keep me as a customer. My issue isn't the 5 bucks. It's the fact that I have been such a huge supporter for years and I feel like like loyalty was thrown back in my face. I let her know that she had lost my family's business for good. She said "that's just fine... anyone want a free bag of food?" (To the crowd of customers waiting for their food) Worst service ever. This is an add on: I was contacted by a Denver police officer responding to a call from chubbys management alleging that I threatened to blow their restaurant up over this ridiculous coupon situation. My only regret with Chubby's is that I was not aware of it until just a few years ago. I was taken there in the wee hours on a Sat. night to try out the smothered green chile burrito and the tamales. The waiting area.... I felt like singing loudly, "One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong!" I'm the tall pale Irish gal who will ask for extra chile and every time they will look at me and raise an eyebrow and say, "You sure about that?" Yes I am sure.. bring it! The smell that hits you when you walk in-- oh god this is what heaven must be like. It's got that greasy, spicy quality to it that leaves you feeling like you need to wash your face when you leave. It's awesome. The tamales are by far my most favorite thing on the menu. Just wow. Soft and moist and steaming hot, they're sold by half dozen and are absolute perfection. I've gotten dozens upon dozens of these by now and not once have i been let down. I have to eat one on the drive back. Have to, can't help myself. The smothered deluxe burrito is packed with meat and cheese, lettuce, tomato and sour cream... It comes sandwiched between two stapled together paper plates. An interesting way to serve it, yet it keeps it hot and steamy and there's no need to worry about trying to unwrap anything. I haven't had any decent green chile in at least a month (I've been on a Pho kick lately). It's time for another trip to the Original Chubby's. Being almost a native of north denver (Smedley, Horace Mann, North class of '72) I've been eating Chubby's for a long @ss time. I can remember buying vegetables at the fruit stand/market that used to be next door. My memory has really gotten bad but I think that we used to order from the sidewalk through a little window? I think back then they even had ice cream cones and gringo burgers. Enough old-timer farting noises. Walk in and say,"Gimme a mex smothered deluxe with cheech and a half chile cheese fries with cheech too". and learn to enjoy the feeling of your arteries clogging cause you'll probably be saying that same line again. Their chile is the same as it has always been. Too thick with very little meat or solids but still very tasty with a kick. This is one of my favs for Ameri-mex food. (note 12/4/07 had to edit this since I ate at the Thornton Chub's last night) The only other Chubby's I will even think about eating at is the one up in Thornton on Washington (and even that location is hit or miss).
