Excellent service! A small, family-owned business that is very friendly and helpful. My wife and I bought our first guns here and we love the big selection that they offer. Check out their gun basics, concealed carry, and other classes that they have to offer. We didn't know anything about guns, and we took the basics class which was super helpful and took the fear and doubts out of handling, owning, and shooting guns. One of the first places I ever went shooting. My friend wanted to meet there as an alternative to Bass Pro and Maxons in Des Plaines (He said Maxons was too close to me and not far enough for him. yeahhh). haha The range itself is nice- it is big and the gun selection is great. In fact, you can "rent out" different guns to try which is really cool- I am not sure if you can do that at BP. The range is definitely not as clean as BP but not as crowded as Maxons. The location is the negative star- soooo farrrr awayyyy. But the front of the store does have that old "country" feel to it. read more

Great Family business. Friendly and helpful with good prices. I like the personal contact that you get at a place like this. They also have CCW classes which I have taken there. P.S. About ammo prices. Reading some comments here I feel their pain but it's the same anywhere else.. The EPA has closed the last lead mine in the USA and Homeland Security, IRS, Postal Service are buying like crazy. Others are hoarding when they can get it so don't blame the business'. read more

The Outdoorsman is a good gun shop with a friendly, knowledgeable staff. They know what they are talking about and take the time to look up things they don't have. I think the prices are fair. The range is a bit run down but most of the time I have it to myself during the day. There are many much more pricey ranges to shoot at that sometimes are a bit intimidating both in customers and staff. I shoot here every couple of weeks. If you have a membership here you get 10% off of ammo and when you purchase a weapon they add another month to your membership. Ammo prices are good and they have what I need. Its a range and its worth what you pay for using it. The Bow service and selection is good as well. They have helped me out during or right before hunting season promptly. read more

This is my go to range when I'm shooting pistol only, no centerfire rifles here unfortunately. I've been coming here for about 4 years now as they are located close by. Bass Pro in Gurnee mills is closer but more a hassle to shoot at. The range(especially the air filtration) is not as modern as Maxons in Des Plaines but everything works and not as crowded. Also the range is way more inexpensive due to it being pistol only. The staff is friendly and the place has a country feel to it. The firearm prices are surprisingly less expensive then other stores such as Maxons or Bass Pro, the ammo is expensive like any other gun range. There's a good chance you'll have the whole range to yourself if you come here on a weekday. They used to have a table against the back wall to put your stuff on but it was hard to keep an eye on your stuff(pretty sure someone stole a box of .45 from me one time). Now each lane conveniently had its own cart so you can keep eye on your gear. All in all a great place for some trigger time, now if only they'd upgrade their backstop so I could shoot my AR here..... read more

$$$$$ way overpriced. Range is run down, dark, hot, and ventilation is sub par. $25.99 for a box of 9mm range ammo? I paid $14.99 last time I was there. $399 for a $265 lcp? Decent range with good pricing. May actually become my go to range since some ranges think you should pay $20 for an hour. Staff was nice to my group of 7 and didn't run us out as we approached closing time. And we drove up from Northside of Chicago to go there so that should tell ya something. read more

Last year, I bought a speed-loader from the Outdoorsman. I told them what I had, they gave me the box, I unpackaged it, put it in my range bag with the receipt and off I went! Only to find out, they sold me the wrong thing. So I went to return it today since I needed another case of ammo, not a scratch or speck of powder on it (clearly, never used)... same guy I always see is there "Oh sure, no problem, you can return it - I just need my boss to sign off on it." Five minutes later, "I'm sorry, you can't return it without the packaging." Really. Is that so. So, if you need a .45 loader, there's a free one on the counter in Winthrop Harbor. But don't ask their advice because they'll attempt to sell you the wrong thing. And don't buy anything while you're there because they MAY or MAY NOT allow you to return it with a receipt in accordance with their return policy if it doesn't work for you. There's more honest places to shop, folks. read more

The staff was friendly and courteous that was the 2 stars. The range is poorly maintained. There are bullet holes in the dividers, the target system is barely functional, there is no distance marked that I saw, and the air filtration system is non-existent. You can smell the powder at the outer of the 2 doors, it is extremely strong at the entry door that has trash and home improvement items stacked by it. Inside it simply reeks, the amount of lead floating in the air down there has to be toxic. Maintenance needs to be done. That or masks need to be handed out. Brass piles up everywhere underfoot on the floor. There is half a broom and no pan or bucket to clean up the brass. So instead you are constantly stepping on spent brass. For the price charged for 1 hour ($15) there are other places for only a few dollars more that are cleaner, safer and maintained properly to choose from. I would go there. I did not really look at ammo prices, the gun prices seemed a bit higher than I would have expected but not horribly so. read more

One of the salesmen was a jerk. Went in to look at 9mm, guy wouldn't listen to what I had to say. All I wanted was a good range gun but he kept trying to sell me a CCW. I'm not sure if its because I was female or not but he kept putting small guns in my hand. He also left me with a gun I didn't want while he walked away to berate another customer who was already being helped. He was rude and kept making assumptions that I believe we're based on the customers race. Over all a bad experience. Only giving it two stars because of the range, which has fair pricing. read more

I came in today to try their shooting range for the first time. It was around 3:15pm and supposedly the range will close at 5 (sunday). The lady over the counter asked me if i came to use the range, i said yes and she gave me a number. At that time, they were serving no. 80 (i was number 83). I shopped for a little bit while waiting for my turn. It seems like the number 80 has been there for a while until finally it moved to 81. So i kept waiting and looked around for stuff that i can use for my rifle since i needed some cleaning supplies (and i was about to ask for help). At some point i saw the lady not doing anything, i approached her and told her that i want to use the range. She then pointed at the number screen above us and said "look we are serving no. 81 so wait for your turn". Then i waited for a little bit more until 4pm. As i looked around, they were not serving any customers and they were just talking to each other. Its already 4pm and the range closes at 5 so there wouldnt be enough time for me to get my full hour at the range. I was so pissed that i returned the stuff that i was gonna buy to their shelves and walked out. Do you know that feeling when youre in a situation where youre about to hit on a lady, then after talking to her for a little bit it turns out that the lady apparently is a b*tch so you lose interest even before a spark was set? Well here you are my friends, if youre the type who wants to go out with a b*tch, then Outdoorsman Club is for you. Im not a business man but let me teach you something about customer retention: if you want your customers to come back, then provide excellent customer service. Besides, the money you use to feed your family and grow your family business comes from the customers. Btw the range looks so cheap comparable to a cheap motel where you bang hookers. And i travelled 20 miles just to try the range. GTR Sporting club in waukegan is waaay better, though more expensive, you get the service for what you pay. For this cheapo place, you really get less than what you deserve. Beast out. read more

Just getting into range shooting. It cost me $16.20 for the hour , plus a target. I did not buy ammo at the shop, but I did see it listed for $14.99 (50) for 9mm. People at counter were very polite. Range itself is OK and as of now, I cannot compare to any other. The purpose is to shoot and you can do that. Outside of the range, I see they plan to open a coffee shop next door. Ive always thought that they were overpriced but i was in there last week and overheard one of there better guys bold faced lie to a customer when he said that the only thing they have raised their prices on was their AR's as he is standing over a case of almost $800 M&P compacts and standing in front of 2 $900 sks's dont help feed the price gougers go down the street to 1st class firearms they are much better read more

i read the reviews left by other people and here is what i think. its a business. if you don't like the price of ammo or the price of firearms, don't shop there. and don't complain that it is too far, its your fault you live too far from the range. I think the range fee is fair, especially if you come with a friend and split the lane. I have been coming here for years and the staff has been friendly and courteous every single time. Don't complain about long wait lines, its a small range so if you don't come as they open or right before they close, most of the time there is no line at all. It can get warm in summer and cool in winter, so dress appropriately for the season. This is an older facility so it is not as technologically set up and cosmetically enhanced as the new ranges. this is how they are able to keep the range fees down compared to other ranges (I've been there too and know their prices).
