    Chicken Tender Basket
    Kelvin N.

After hours of paddling and chilling at the lake, I was craving for some food and a cold one. As a chicken lover, I've decided to try the tender basket. TBH I wished I'd ordered something else because it failed my expectations. The tenders lacked seasoning (why the sides got more flavor?), the breading could be crispier with more texture, and the fries could use a bit more seasoning too. The chicken wasn't too dry out and was still juicy which is good. Located in a beautiful area of the lake, I hope that they could improve their tender basket to match their surrounding uniqueness.

What a great spot! Love the menu including ice cream and drinks while relaxing by the lake and beach. This was our first time visiting Lake Nokomis, and this place did not disappoint. They did only have 2 high chairs available, so if you have children who need one maybe bring along a stroller to be safe. The chips and salsa were delicious along with the fish tacos, yum! They have snacks and something here for everyone with a cold beverage or ice cream fix!

The weather was cloudy but the Painted Turtle's fish sandwich sure brightened up my day! The fish and fries were cooked fresh and perfectly :) there is a large patio area to enjoy the views of the lake and plenty of space for a picnic in the sand or grass. I saw an update that they will be able to serve beer next week too! Great spot to enjoy a day outside and get food and ice cream :) will definitely be back again to try the rest of the menu. There is street parking close to the paid parking lot if you want to skip the $2 parking fees!

We went for a nice late lunch with our almost two year old boy. When we arrived, we ordered at the windowthe gals working were very friendly, and kept the line moving fairly quickly. They give you a number beeper when your order is ready. There are only a couple high chairs and had to have help procuring one, and when we got our food I had to ask for sauce for his tenders and my beer which they forgot, but they were on top of it and very helpful. There's plenty of seating along the lake, nice view, and some seating with cover sort of inside between the bar and counter also. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos with chips and salsa. Everything was really good, the fish was nicely grilled how I like, and the corn salsa and slaw went nicely. Even the chicken tenders and waffle fries I stole some bites of were pretty tasty.

You can't beat lakeside views. Good menu selection for vegetarians too! The veggie Chicago dog was very good. We'll be back.

Chef Pedro took our order (bonus points) and we had a lovely conversation about New Orleans. The menu here has a lot of New Orleans food intertwined. Based on where Pedro previously worked in New Orleans, he has an outstanding culinary background. I was going to order the Muffaletta, which can be served hot or cold, but they were out. When I heard why, I was impressed. In New Orleans, the gold standard of bread is Leidenheimer. Minnesota doesn't have the same bread (Trung Nam Bakery is the closest substitute). Pedro uses Leidenheimer for his Muffalettas. Pedro also makes his own olive salad. I am looking forward to trying a Muffaletta. My husband ordered the Zambon Dip and really enjoyed it. I had the Herb Brooks Focaccia. It was great. Big portions. What is really funny is I knew the North Stars as I worked at the Met Center. Fun memorabilia too. On street parking and some tables outside. What we used to call a neighborhood joint. Stop in and say hi to Pedro. Now I just wish he would make Gumbo with some okra and filé.

It's well away from the beaten path of downtowners, tourists, and suburbanites and I think it can truly represent what locals like in a deli. There are some great sounding sandwich combinations on the menu. Unfortunately, during my inaugural visit, they could not make some of them because they were out of key ingredients. That seems a little lame for a shop that only does sandwiches but it gives me an excuse to go there again to give it a try. What I did taste (a Dino Italian Sub and a North Star Deluxe) were well above average. Maybe not legendary but certainly exceeding a typical sandwich from a chain franchise. The prices were also about 1/3 higher than a typical chain franchise but I guess you get what you pay for. I liked the hockey themed schtick of the place and the young guys manning the lunch rush could all pass for avid hockey stars which fits the theme since the shop seems to be named after the old MN pro hockey team (North Stars). The only thing that was not super authentic about them were the lack of extreme mullets and they all seemed to have a full set of teeth. The sandwiches are fairly large, messy, and tasty. There are some great sidewalk tables to enjoy your lunch on a nice day. They even provide local hot sauce (Cry Baby Craigs) on the table which is very un-Minnesotan due to its spicy kick. What's not to like? If in the area, this is a definite recommendation to change up your lunchtime boredom with the same old same old.

Unfortunately, this Firehouse felt more like a fire drill -- lots of motion, not much coordination. The staff looked like and acted like they didn't want to be there and then someone had just yelled "everybody make sandwiches!" and then left the room. Service was slower than boarding Group 9, and by the time my sub arrived, I was halfway through my emotional support chips. As for the sandwich -- let's just say it didn't quite live up to the usual Firehouse standard. More like Smoke Detector Subs -- something was missing, and it definitely wasn't flavor from being too fresh. Two stars because I did eventually get food, and it was edible. But next time I might just grab a granola bar and call it a win. If you're hungry and have time to burn, give it a shot. If you're in a hurry... you might want to bring your own siren.

They actually use the smaller bottles of juice than the small bottles. Until now I didn't even know... to be fair, it does appear all the other vendors have similarly small versions and drinks are more expensive here than other airports. Also made my order after another couple. It should be first-in-first-out at the airport. I wouldn't mind the delay normally but at an airport, time -can- be precious.

Our favorite very old deli in West Palm Beach was sold 1.5 years ago and gone gone gone are the DELIGHTFUL happy charming old staff and the perfect old world flavors, cooking. In Sarasota where we just lived the last 5 years, a new deli closed after just 2 years, and there is nothing left. We've been visiting family in Sarasota every year for 40 years. Gone too in the Twin Ciries is the ownership by brothers Scot and Stu of Hopkin's beloved Crossroads Deli just last year. The new owners, a corporation owning 6-8 other restaurants have CHANGED almost all the recipes for breads, cakes , wonderous cookies and 80 % of all pastries! No more butter, no more fine ingredients and no more of their once " Grossinger's taste/quality" STELLAR seeded rye bread! They even eliminated the lemon flavoring. In their incomparable lemon coconut cake! Their stuffed cabbage is one of their only true deli dishes left. Sandwiches are half their original size...... heart breaking after going there 3-4 times a week for 25 years........ Cecil's of course had to cut back on the $$ use of butter in their pastries. But they have WORKED VERY HARD to still retain their wonderous long long ago heart warming flavors. ALL their sandwiches are AUTHENTIC. Old world New York City flavors! Made with care and love. My husband loves their beautiful generous Nova salmon platte. Noshing away happily! I love their pastrami Rachel's with plentiful half sour pickles lots of Russian dressing and creamy Cole slaw. Mmmmmm. I hope and pray Cecil's owner refrains for a long long time from selling his rare business. We must support Cecil's too.... Or lose it with all the others, and lose part of our joy and heart. Packed the midweek afternoon we visited, and we did not wait for a table. Loved my bowl of Matzo Soup, superb broth and the Matzo was delicious. Enjoyed my BLT on whole wheat and the homemade potato salad was amazing! Had a cherry cobbler for dessert that was incredible. Restaurant has been open for over 70 years, and I met the owner/manager, Cecil, afterward, and he just oozes customer service being a priority. It's a must-visit place.

On one side is a meat market with a variety of cuts of steaks, lamb, and other meats, which all looked fresh and quite nice. They also have a variety of items such as canned goods, pasta, eggs, etc. on the shelves opposite the meat counter. The entire place is quite sunny, pleasant, and cozy. On the other side is the eat-in, take-out deli sandwiches, that are made to order. The quality of the ingredients is excellent. The bread is freshly made (crispy baguette type) and you have a choice of Roast Beef, Roast Turkey, Tuna Salad, Smoked Ham, or Corned Beef. All sandwiches are $16.50 each (including tax) and come with a choice of mayonnaise, spicy stone ground mustard, red leaf lettuce, thin sliced red onion, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, raw grated horseradish, pickled jalapeno, and roasted bell pepper. The default includes all toppings so if you don't want everything, be sure to specify what you do NOT want. Surprisingly, they do not carry any diet soda, nor do they stock any national brands (only local pop). There is a large menu on the wall, and you order at the counter and pick up the order (no table service). The food was attractively presented, and very, very good. My only gripe (besides the lack of diet pop) is that it's on the expensive side for lunch. Two sandwiches, a couple of bags of chips, and a couple of cans of pop will easily top $40, although I'd say the quality is top-notch.

I was on the street in front of Clancy's when one of their customers was mis-identified as an officer of an organization that was terrorizing Minneapolis. It had nothing to do with Clancy's! As I tried to get to my car, people yelled the most obscene and disgusting epitaphs at the couple in front of me. I was just walking down Grand Avenue. They were even spitting at this innocent individual. As a liberal who marched for civil rights and against the war in Vietnam during the 1960s and 1970s, I was horrified. Blaming Clancy's is ignorant, and an integral part of how this country is dismantling. Clancy's Meats & Fish is important to our neighborhood, and represents the kindness and empathy that has been representative of Minnesota for decades. Give them your support.
