The Chicken Parmesan is very good. Their sauce has a sweet flavor and their garlic bread is very heavy on olive oil? margarine? butter? The service was very good, and everything was served hot. The problem I have is the price for everything. Long before prices of food got crazy, this place raised their prices to the point that it was not enjoyable eating there. Italian food is by its' very nature is low priced. Noodles and marinara are just not that expensive. We just decided to stay away due to the prices. read more

Ordered the Portabella Mushroom Ravioli with broccoli on top with 1/2 marinara and 1/2 Alfredo sauce yesterday. Mixing the sauces was good; however, the marinara alone was too acidic. Also ordered the Eggplant Parmesan which was tasty but too oily. And the garlic bread was sitting in butter/oil, which made it a bit too heavy for us. We have been coming here since the 80s. We have never been disappointed with the quality of the food. The service was a little lacking which is why I didn't give 5 stars. We had reservations for 6 people. Two of the people had to remind the server that a side salad came with their entree which she brought after their meal arrived. I was here about 15 yrs ago and had a good memory of it. I always thought of the Pasta Shoppe as a great "find". I recently had dinner and was very disappointed. We ordered the ravioli and were required to have the sauce on it. I asked to have it on the side, but they wouldn't. The dish came smothered in sauce and very few ravioli, which were unflavorful...I'm thinking that's why all the sauce. The food tasted like something I would make at home. We didn't taste the meat in them. Spent $80 for 2 meals, 2 sides, 2 glasses of wine & 1 soda. The waitress was very nice. read more

Truly the worst Italian food I've ever had. The alfredo sauce is super bad. It tastes like salty thickened milk. I wish I could express how bad it is. The meatball appetizer comes drowning in mediocre red sauce. The meatballs themselves are a strange and spongy texture. I don't know how this place stays in business. This was my first visit to The Pasta Shoppe as I am from out of town. It's a nice, cozy, family owned business. It's been around for years and even under new owners, it still tastes great (been told by family members). A lot of the original recipes were kept and current staff before the transition was maintained. The food is AMAZING! First of all, the bread -OMG! The words I would use to describe it- Crispy, Soft, Buttery, Lightly Toasted, Warm, ugh it's so scrumptious! And it's somehow double sided! There's no brown bottom. It's white on top and bottom, so it's just as soft on top as the bottom! The Tossed Antipasto Salad is also AMAZING! From the greens they use to the oil/herb dressing to the meats, Emm Yum! I shared the Manicotti with my mother in law and it was delicious! The ambience is nice, not too dark and not too bright. The lighting is perfect! There's also 3 areas to sit and eat including the bar. I was quite impressed. The price point is a little high, but it's a fancy restaurant with good quality food and great portions! read more

I've lived in PORT for over 17 years. It used to be my favorite Italian shop in town and when the newest owners took over The Pasta Shoppe, I've NEVER seen a restaurant go down in flames SO fast! There is no more warm family feel there anymore, the food comes out cold and they are ALWAYS short on waitstaff. I told the new owner my grievances and he simply stated, "I'm sorry you feel that way." I kindly let him know that NO ONE in my family would be eating from the beautiful family owned business that he bought and ran into the ground. We haven't been back since. read more

I have visited the Pasta Shoppe a few times now with my family. By far my favorites are the featured pasta specials on any given evening. They have never been a disappoint. The overall menu selections are very adequate for any taste or mood. I tried the pizza on my last visit. It was good, but as stated earlier, I'm a fan of the featured pasta. This place is so extremely mediocre. For the price, I feel like this place is robbing their customers. We ordered their Pasta Primavera for $21.95 and (I kid you not) there was steamed frozen vegetables you'd get from Walmart thrown on top of the chicken and pasta. The bread was so greasy from all the butter it was soaked in - there was a pool of grease and butter at the bottom of the basket. Whenever I go out to eat, especially for a pasta dinner that I could make at home, I have higher expectations. Save your money and don't come here. read more

Cozy would be the best word to describe the atmosphere. That is to be expected, however, in a downtown location. Be prepared to sit quite close to your table neighbor, but that adds to the family feel rather then detracting from it. Despite the closeness of the seating the restaurant is not overly loud. You can still carry on a conversation with your table and not shout. The restaurant takes up the 1st and 2nd floor of what seems to be a converted row home. The staff is very friendly and the decor is appropriately Italian without over doing it. Service was quick and the food was hot. My table was on the 2nd floor by the kitchen area so it was a bit 'busy' with all the servers coming in and out. Also since it is an old building the floor moved quite a bit with everyone's footsteps and I found that to be a bit disconcerting. I tried the House Chianti, which for being the house wine was rather pleasant. Not too harsh or acidic although the glass was very small (see picture for comparison to a normal sized water glass). I ordered the 1/2 order of Spaghetti with Marinara and added a meatball. It came with a basket of garlic bread. Total with tax and tip came to $15. Everything was very good. The spaghetti was thinner more like angel hair but the sauce still stuck well to the noodles. The marinara was chunkier but still with enough sauce to coat. There also was plenty of sauce which I was pleasantly surprised with. Often times with 'authentic' Italian restaurants they can skimp the sauce. Not the case here. The meatball was dense and really well flavored. The garlic bread was well flavored but a bit oily (ask for extra napkins). The bathroom is through the server area which is a bit odd but clean and well appointed. Overall a great 'special' dinner out in the Downtown area. read more

Homey Italian atmosphere, excellent food and an adorably inexperienced waiter made my first trip to the Pasta Shoppe memorable. We were seated in the quiet upstairs dining room with a nice view of the town street. The mozzarella sticks and house salad were good, but the special meatball sandwich on garlic bread was delicious. To finish it off, the raspberry gelato ball dipped in chocolate was quite tasty. The food came quickly, not giving us much time to draw on the paper tablecloth with the crayons provided at each table. The only thing worth passing on was the Midnight Martini, which was navy blue and tasted like Nyquil. Stick with traditional cocktails here. I ordered dinner for pick up tonight. 2 of the 3 dishes were incorrect. The manager argued with me saying the chef said he made the 2 dishes correctly.  I ordered 2 dishes of jumbo shells. The sauce that came with both dishes was a mixture of Alfredo and marinara sauce. It was clearly 2 separate sauces mixed in together, now we order from this establishment all the time. I have ordered this MANY dish many times. It is NOT what they normally serve. I was hung up on mid sentence. if I could give a 0 star I would. Very disappointed in how I was treated. read more

Not a good thing when they run out of all fish by 6:15 pm on a Friday night! Reservations and despite being seated twenty minutes late it took another 30 minutes after we were seated to be waited on. My husband and I are on the hunt for Wisconsin's best mozzarella sticks, and to date The Pasta Shoppe is our winner! The breading is crispy, the cheese is always melted and not to greasy. The sauce is really what makes it though! We also usually share an Antipasto Salad which is perfect for two, and then finish with the cheese ravioli. It comes with verrry buttery garlic bread perfect for dipping in the great sauce. The prices are average for an italian place, but the food is worth it. It's owned by a local family and their pride in the place really shines through. I also have their facebook fan page added and they always run great specials! read more

A good feature of any Italian restaurant is their garlic bread and unfortunately their bread was terrible... We ordered two sides of garlic bread and received one giant piece of toast and one piece of soggy oil bread. As a resident of port Washington for more than 12 years it's sad to see such a nice place go downhill. I had high expectations for this place because it came so highly recommended from a long time resident of Port Washington. Our visit was, without a doubt, one of the worst (if not THE worst) dining experiences I have ever had, and I eat out at least 500 meals per year all over the US. The service was terrible. We were treated like second rate citizens from the moment we walked in. An example was when we ordered the bruschetta appetizer, we never received it. When the server brought out our entrees, I mentioned it, and she said that they had run out of it (how an italian place runs out of that, I'll never know. Okay fine... until a few minutes later, we overheard the table next to us order it and (surprise) they brought it right out. This was just one of about 5 separate things that occurred during the meal. The food was average, and could not make up for the terrible experience. Overall, the food was average to below average for italian. The most egregious error was overcooked pasta...in an italian restaurant. What a sin! read more

Was visiting from out of town and had dinner here based on a recommendation. It was busy on a weeknight which I felt was a good sign but we were not impressed with either of our orders. I got the spedini and it was dry and flavorless. The penne and sauce that accompanied it tasted like it was from a can/box. My wife got the braised beef ravioli which was better than mine but left a lot to be desired. The garlic bread was good though! Went here with a friend for a special occasion. The service was excellent, the waitress was very attentive to our needs and kept our beverages filled the whole meal. My meal was pretty good. I had the mushroom ravioli and definitely recommend it. The garlic bread is also perfect. My friend just ordered spaghetti while he said it was fine, he does have a dairy allergy and it was served with cheese when the menu stated it was just pasta and marinara sauce. First of all, the food is great as always. But, here's my carry out experience. Poor organization and lack of team work. I called at least 16 times for takeout- non-stop busy signal, so I walked there and found a half-filled restaurant. The hostess greeted me and I explained the reason for being there and she referred me to the bartender. The bartender was overworked, covering bar, drink orders from wait staff, and all of the carry out orders single-handedly. My order took 1.5 hrs. Poor management. Rude waitresses, all but 1. I witnessed all of this for the 1.5 hrs that I waited. I overheard one waitress say phone was turned off for half an he so bartender could catch up when others complained about not being able to call in order. If all the team worked together, perhaps 1 person wouldn't be overloaded. I don't expect the bartender to want to stay there... read more

We had a pretty nice server who was polite and funny. Awesome! They have a wide variety of wine and a full bar. Awesome! The place is really clean, so that's cool too. So far so good. Then, the food comes out. Each entree comes with a side of garlic bread, which should be called butter bread. It is dripping in butter and not very garlic-y. I went with the cheese tortellini for my entree and the noodles were overcooked. Gross. The sauce they use is nothing to write home about. I've driven by the Pasta Shoppe many times, and was always intrigued by the attractive facade and huge red tomato over the door. I rarely stay in Port long enough to go out to dinner, but on a recent occasion we were there for the weekend and decided to visit. The inside was as charming as the outside, and the menu held promise. Pasta primavera was featured on the otherwise vegetarian-unfriendly menu, and my wife found an interesting chicken dish among the daily specials. Their claim to 40 years in the restaurant business was also reassuring. Primavera is one of my favorite pasta meals. The traditional and almost universal recipe features a good amount of fresh and lightly cooked vegetables piled on fettuccine or similar pasta, lightly tossed with olive oil and garlic, with a Parmesan finish. Hard to go wrong when you follow the recipe. I was quite surprised when presented with a plate bearing more than a cup of rather cloying red sauce poured over limp pasta, with a scattering of vegetables on the top. When I say 'scattering,' I mean maybe 8 1" broccoli and cauliflower florets and a couple snow peas. I had more vegetables in my omelet at Harry's, the nest morning. If the pasta was firm, if the sauce had character and the vegetables substance, this would pass as an "Italian-style" dish at Perkins. It might even make the menu at Olive Garden. But calling this Primavera at a true Italian restaurant is a cruel misstatement. My wife's meal was a large soup bowl with another huge helping of the red sauce, poured over some flavorless gluten-free pasta,. There were a few pieces of overworked chicken in the sauce, and maybe four artichoke hearts. If there were more, it was not worth the exploration. The gluten-free pasta was also an additional $2, which our waitress had failed to point out. When I spoke to the owner (not the manager - the owner), her only offer was to prepare new meals for us. I can imagine if there was a one-off fault in the dish this might be a fair response. But when both meals are fundamentally flawed from their conception, I do not hold out hope for much else on the menu. And there is very, very little available for vegetarians (outside of pizza, I suppose). I do not understand the mindset of a restauranteur who will only fight with a customer. We were profoundly dissatisfied with our meals, with good reason, and the prospect of more of the same was not at all attractive. After I mentioned Yelp, she reluctantly allowed about half off the entries, since, she claimed, we had eaten half of the unappetizing dishes. There's all kinds of ways to do that math, I guess. A weak 2 stars for the food, less one for the uncongenial host. read more
