I placed an order for a custom cake super last minute. Amanda went above and beyond to accommodate me and give me what I wanted with the time frame she was given. The cake was absolutely beautiful and exactly what I wanted. She made my vision come to my life ! I ended up placing another order almost at the same time as the 1st order. The cake also came out exactly as I imagined. My husband was soooo impressed and shocked !!! He loved it !!! Amanda is so kind and just a pleasure to work with. I will definitely be ordering again! Amanda is very professional all throughout the transaction/conversation. She gave me an expert opinion on the cake/colors I wanted and has shown me genuine concern as to what the flavor of the cake the celebrant prefers. The design is superb, detailed and unique. The price is VERY REASONABLE. And the taste of the cake-it's not your regular cake shop. It is not too sweet and is just moistened enough. It's better than any other cakeshop I've tried. I wouldn't be surprised if anytime soon she'll take over the cake world!
Amanda was so helpful and professional and the cake turned out perfect! I sent her a video of a cake my wife liked and asked her if she could make something like that. Not only was she able to meet my somewhat short timeline, but she make a cake even more beautiful than the one I showed her. The attention to detail was impeccable and the overall look of the cake was spot on. My wife absolutely loved it and don't even get me started on the taste! It was a delicious buttercream cake with strawberry filling and a hint of cinnamon that kind of reminded me of carrot cake. It was so delicious and so beautiful! I would absolutely recommend Amanda and the Pin-up Kitchen to anyone looking for a beautiful tasty custom cake.
Ordered a cake from Amanda and everything was good up until the week of the pick up date. There was no communication on her end, so I reached out to confirm the order and pick up. I even called her because the day before pick up, she was not in any communication. The cake was a disaster, it did not survive a 20 minute car ride. It was a 2 layer cake and the top layer started sliding and collapsed. This was my sons first birthday so I was frantic. When I reached out to her with a photo, she said, 'oh this can be fixed with some buttercream' ?!??????!!! Am I baker? Do I know how to do this? NOT AT ALL. When I reached out to her after the party, she blamed the transportation for the cake not getting there in one piece. I've never heard a cake doing this while someone is holding onto it in a car. Never offered any compensation or even another cake so that my son could have his proper first birthday. All she could say was, I worked hard on it too and this upsets me too. OKAYYYYY, that's a $400 response. I love supporting small businesses. But look at the customer service and professionalism. This was a definitely a mistake.
I had big dreams for my wedding. I wanted a 1920's Great Gatsby wedding and I had everything planned to the T. One of the easiest and best experiences I had with a vendor was with The Pin-Up Kitchen. From the start Amanda was quick to reply, very thorough and very nice. I spoke to her for the first time in 2019 when I started planning my wedding. We set a date for 2020 and unfortunately, Covid restrictions forced us to postpone and Amanda made sure that a year from then, we would be taken care of. At the time when I was to book the cake sampling appointment, I got Covid. Amanda went out of her way, made the 5 samples, portioned them in beautiful mason jars and allowed for my assistant to pick them up from her. It was very difficult to choose which one we wanted because all of them were delicious. It took us days to decide, sampling a little bit each day until we made a decision. We went with the lemon cake with the lemon filling and boy are we glad we did. It was a hit. On the day of the wedding upon seeing the cake, everybody was in awe at how majestic and beautiful it came out. 4 tiers of pure gorgeousness and the tastiest cake ever. People were literally going back for 2nds and 3rd's. I made sure to save the top tier for my husband and I to share on our first wedding anniversary. The cake was in the freezer for most of that year until we purchased a home in another state. There were many discussions on how we would get it there. We decided to keep in it a cooler with dry ice and it withstood not only the test of time, but a 32-hour drive to Texas in the summer. On October 30, we finally got to eat our anniversary piece and it was just as delicious as the day of our wedding. Just as pretty too. Amanda was a joy to work with. She knew her assignment and she truly knocked it out of the park. I highly, HIGHLY recommend hiring her for ALL your custom cake needs.
First timer here requested a custom cake for my sons birthday this past weekend. Communication, accommodation, and expectations all met 100%. It was a pleasant experience and my son absolutely loved his cake. We very much appreciated and loved the whole design and tasted delicious, we got compliments over it and took pictures. It was fantastic and would absolutely recommend and order again!

If you're looking for a delicious custom cake... look no further!! Amanda is extremely talented. I asked her if she could make a red velvet cake with the Space Needle sky scraper on it. My boyfriend and I are moving to Seattle and I wanted to surprise him for his birthday. I sent her a couple of pictures. She literally nailed it. Not only was the cake adorable- it tasted amazing. Amanda was amazing! Not only was she very responsive and kind, she was able to take a picture I sent her of a CDJ and make it into a work of art! I appreciated that she reached out to make sure it was even personalized with my husband's DJ logo. We've worked with Amanda on two occasions now and both times we were extremely happy with the cakes. Amanda is very easy and pleasant to work with. She was able to bring to life the vision we had for my brother-in-law's 40th birthday cake based on a theme (heirloom gold coins) that was important to our family. We simply cannot recommend Amanda enough to any family and friends who are in need of a custom 3D cake. Words of advice: during the consultation process, be as thorough as possible with your request and provide sample inspo photos. But also make sure you have realistic expectations as well. We made sure to put our requests in advance to make sure Amanda could fit us in her schedule. We also requested a vegan cake for my son's 1st birthday and his little cousins said it was the best cake they've ever tasted. This baker is just rad. I wanted a cake for my husband's birthday. She worked with me and came up with a design that was absolutely perfect. I wanted a cake that incorporated a Negroni, which is apparently hard to get done. This baker did it, and it looked INCREDIBLE. And, since I can't have dairy (boooo), she made the cake vegan! My husband and I were looking for a super small celebration cake for our wedding and we stumbled upon Amanda via Yelp. She responded quickly and had a great idea based on our cake topper and photos of cakes I liked. After hearing what her ideas were, we decided to put down our deposit. Upon notifying her of a friend's allergy to nuts, she ensured that our cake would be baked away from them. We picked up our cake on the day of our wedding and I was amazed by it! Amanda, The Chicago Cubs grooms cake was a BIG hit!!!! My new son in law was surprised, and then a bit awe struck, and finally happy and excited! It was perfect! He was reluctant to cut it because, he said, "It looks too awesome!" When my daughter told him it was a carrot cake, which is his favorite, he relented and cut a small slice (on the back side of the cake)... His verdict, "It tastes even better than it looks!" I honestly cannot come up with one negative thing to say... not one! The cakes are beyond delicious and Amanda is a true talent. I don't think there is any decoration she can't do. She takes your ideas and makes them an edible reality. She is attentive, detailed, NICE, understanding, and patient. I'm not the easiest customer to deal with and Amanda never made me feel like a burden or like I was doing too much. She is great at communicating to make sure I get exactly what I want. For the amount of work she puts in, prices are more than reasonable. She is even willing to accommodate dietary restrictions and that is greatly appreciated. I'm so happy I found her! read more

These cupcakes that Amanda made were AMAZING! I contacted other cupcakes places to make a special order for my mom and sister in law. They never responded so I looked for a local place near me. When I called Amanda she immediately responded and was so nice. I requested it a week before and she was able to do it! I texted her a couple days ago to make a change of color for the roses and Amanda had no problem! Receiving the cupcakes I was so impressed with how they looked! I only send her 1 picture for Fendi & Dior and she did 2 pictures each! And it looked so great! She went above and beyond. The flowers were beautiful and you can tell she takes her time with them. Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! I needed a cake last min. I'm talking less than 24 hours notice. I called a ton of places! Emailed more! No one was able to accommodate me which was understandable. I Almost didn't message The Pin Up Kitchen and km so glad I did. She was prompt to respond. See what I wanted and let me know with such short notice she could do something simple for me. Wait what?!! Did she say yes?!!! I was sooo happy! Needed a baseball Smash Cake for a 1'st birthday Party! Cake came out amazing! I asked Amanda to mqke a replica of my son's car for his 18th birthday. The details were amazing...down to license plate and the "metal sheet" that the car was on on. Not only did the cake look great, it tasted very good as well. The fondant ( I think that's what it was) was very edible and soft, unlike the other ones I've had. I ordered a white cake with mango buttercream filling. Yummmmmm!!!! Unfortunately, My son was involved in an accident a few weeks ago, and car's front bumper was smashed. So, during the party, he smashed the front bumper of the cake to add humor to our stressful situation. His friends got a kick out of it. This cake was the highlight of our celebration and truly made my son's 18th birthday memorable. THANK YOU VERY MUCH Amanda for helping us make great memories!!! My daughter wanted a "Beatles" cake for her 13th birthday and let me tell you that Amanda went way above and beyond! Exceeded our expectations. The cake was amazing! Amanda was prompt in responding to my inquiries about having a cake done within a few days (short notice). I got a 6" cake that fed about 12 people for 90$. The details to the fondant work was so amazing. I loved the way the frosting looked like waves of the ocean. Definitely an artist. I loved it and so did the birthday boy (he's 25). We wanted to incorporate an acropora which is type of coral but that's an intricate type of coral so I commend Amanda for even looking into it and trying. However, the acropora wasn't able to make it on the cake, but everything that did was awesome! The marble was so moist and the frosting was good. I definitely recommend Amanda! read more

I bake myself, unfortunately I was unable to take a cake on the flight to LBC. My opinion and the rest of the people at the party agree, the cake was precooked put in the freezer then icing the cake at a later date. I hate freezer stored cakes!! Freshly baked is my choice! read more

The most arrogant and most incompetent baker out there. She will refuse to follow the direction a customer gives her. She will do her own thing without any regard for the customer. And then she will argue with you that it was your fault. I am attaching screen shots of texts as a proof. I ordered a cake that I asked to be light gray with different shades of gray flowers that would say "Happy Birthday, Erika." I received white cake with purple flowers and the gray nametag that says Erika (see pics). When I told Amanda that this is not what I ordered and asked her to write Happy Birthday Erika on the cake, like I initially requested, her response was (see screenshots) "since it's your birthday, I am sure everyone will know." She never acknowledged that her design is not what I requested. Furthermore, she made the mistake sound like it was my fault. She argued (in a combative manner) via texts until I stopped responding and was forced to block her (look at her response, you will understand why I had to block her - it was the only way to stop her from harassing me). My husband witnessed the entire thing, showed the texts to three of his friends who wanted to order from Amanda. They backed off, shaking their heads. I could make a book of all the texts that Amanda sent (one after another, explaining how I was not clear about what I wanted - again, check the initial text about how "unclear" I was.) Absolutely, I mean, ABSOLUTELY unprofessional, incompetent, labile, and inept baker out there. I do not recommend her (unless you do not care what your $100 cake looks like.) Yes, $100 just to be harassed by Amanda via never-ending texts and now here on Yelp via messages. PS: (after Amanda posted her response): Texts are NOT edited unlike Amanda claims in her response. Furthermore, Amanda claims this review is fake because it is under the name of Gina. Gina is my middle name, and this review, unfortunately, is very REAL based on my very unpleasant and disturbing experience with Amanda. This is also my only Yelp account, so no fraud here. Additionally, no one, absolutely no one was verbally abusive towards Amanda. Amanda made a mistake that she NEVER acknowledged. I pointed the mistake out to her and she did not like it so she became defensive and combative while lying about the actual event. (now Amanda is claiming in her response that I wrote a review of an unfinished product.) Lies, lies, lies again - please, see pics of the cake, the color, and the "Erika" plate - the product was very finished and so I politely asked her to write the sign I actually ordered. And that is when Amanda all of sudden became verbally aggressive and very defensive because she knew her finished product looked nothing like what I requested.) In my culture, the cake that only has a name on it, is meant for a Nameday (celebration of a name) and not a birthday. I even explained that to her. She disregarded that and my culture completely. I was helpless with her. Even my husband was shaking his head looking at Amanda's unjustified defensiveness, lack of co-operation, and cultural insensitivity. read more
