Came here on a rainy Saturday evening during a trip to Seattle and was so pleasantly surprised! The inside was still decorated for Christmas was great, but also had other decorations that definitely are kitschy and perfect for the history behind the Pine Box (aka the open standing coffin between the bathrooms). Plenty of beers and cocktails to order-- the cocktails are very alcohol forward though. There is a happy hour special I think for each day, and we were pleasantly surprised when you get a charcuterie board with the adult capri sun during HH! Will certainly come back again next time I'm in Seattle! read more

Loved the drinks, and the prices weren't bad at all. Thought the "roll your fate" shot for $6.66 was pretty fun. Only issue my boyfriend and I had was the service; both bartenders were noticeably agitated for 0 reason. We ordered a grand total of 4 drinks the entire night. One shot, one cocktail, two beers. The man who took my card to open a tab (that has a sticker cover on it) was aggressively shoving it into the reader and making dramatic "ugh!" gestures and scoffing / huffing because it didn't fit the first 30 seconds. then, when handing me my card back, told me "that sticker SURE makes it difficult to pay!" all flustered-like.. relax dude lmao. My bf and I just watched him and his emotional outburst in awe, and said nothing. Then later the lady who served us was super chipper when talking to all her coworkers, to which we waited to order something until she was done (so that we weren't rude), but even when she spun around to check the bar and saw our hand raise, she immediately dropped the smile and served us like it was a massive inconvenience. We ordered one single beer from her lol. It was like 9:45 pm on a Saturday. So it wasn't like we were there near closing. Anyways, while the drinks and prices were amazing, unless you're willing to take awful service on the chin, avoid this place. guys why are we still going to frat parties as 20-something working adults. joking. but all jokes aside the pine box did have me feeling like i was in a frat house at times and not in a good way. genuinely the best way to capture the ambiance here is frat house, as the bottom floor (at least when my group went) smelled vaguely of puke and the area was a little musty from how many bodies were in here. as for drinks, i would definitely recommend the beers and ciders they have on tap over their cocktails, as i thought my cherry cider from the slightly furry beverage company was quite tasty, but my friends' adult capri suns and mai tais left much to be desired as the alcohol taste was very sharp in those and the drinks felt sweet in a more candy way. (reminiscent of drinking vodka or tequila and chasing it with hawaiian punch at a college party.) overall, the pine box is a good option if you can't get into any of seattle's nicer bars and speakeasies or if you want to relive your college days, but otherwise it's a pass for me read more

The Pinebox serves some decent cocktails, pizzas, and brews in a space full of history and macabre charm. The history of the building dates back to the 1920s when it was a mortuary. One of their claim to fame is Bruce Lee. His funeral service was held in this exact building. Now, the space has transformed into a gastropub perfect for group get togethers. This gastropub offers 4 seating areas, the loft, main dining, bar top, and outdoor with picnic tables. My favorite spot is the loft area overlooking the whole Pinebox. The main dining area has booths and tables perfect for large groups. The Pinebox is known for their pizzas. I do recommend their meat lover pizza, cheese, and pepperoni. For drinks, they do carry a large amount of beers on tap. They also have ciders, wines, and liquors. Their cocktail list, though small, is interesting with their eerie elegant names. I stuck with my standard drinks of old fashioned and manhattan. Both were properly made. This space can get busy and orders tend to take longer. We had a corporate event here, an unassuming classic building that opens into a dive bar like ambience with lots of beer/ciders and some cocktail options. This place is mostly American food, with a nice happy hour and a decent selection of pizza and other American fare. We booked the mezzanine where we had a dedicated section of the restaurant with a nice view of the whole restaurant. I personally got a few drinks and also tried some of the pizza here such as the pepperoni, special (spicy pepperoni), and meat lover. The pizza is cooked decently, thin crust, but it was a lot heavier and heartier than the pizza I am usually used to. The crust is good but the flavor is a little off. We also got the wings which were decent, a bit filling. The cocktails here were strong and inexpensive. There were some on par with nicer restaurant prices ($17) the blueberry sour which was okay, but there were some like the adult capri-sun that had a fun presentation and inexpensive ($11) and strong and that was a fun drink that I see myself ordering again! Overall, I love the vibe of the place but the food is a bit underwhelming. If I come back, it will mostly be for the drinks. read more

Wow, wow, wow what a cool venue!!! so much cool death decor. And I like that they call it "the pine box" such a nice play on words. I have not been to this venue since it was The Chapel, but definitely prefer the pine box with its cool theme and decor. The bar which was formally in the middle of the room under the previous business is now up against the South wall. Great drink menu with so many different options for cocktails, mocktails,beer and more. Some of the names of the cocktails are hilarious! Bathrooms are still the same as they always were, unisex and kind of dingy looking, but outside of the bathrooms everything else is great. Service is phenomenal. They have a great layout. They have both an upstairs, the main floor, and then a side room. Once it gets busy, it can get really loud though, and it could be hard to hear people. At times we had to take the conversation upstairs to the balcony (where it was slightly quieter or outside. The entrance is a flight of stairs outside, but there is also an ADA entrance in case you can't navigate stairs. read more

Great drinks! We were recently there around Halloween, and they had a couple of drink specials -- the Witch's Brew, which was a tequila-based drink served in a little cauldron, complete with some vapor and a blinking LED hidden in the drink; and a Pumpkin Espresso Martini, with a cool spider made from cocoa powder on sprinkled on the foam. Both were delicious and really stiff! Bartenders were cool and friendly. As most people know, the venue is a former funeral home, and is where Bruce Lee had his memorial service. I also had some of their pizza, which was quite good. Pepperoni was really tasty! If you're looking for a landmark bar in Seattle, this should definitely be on your list. read more

Wow. I actually really loved this bar. The beer list is extensive and excelled in variety. The bartender was knowledgeable and very friendly/quiippy which me and my partner appreciated. Cool and eclectic assortment of decorations. Any time I'm in Seattle I'll be sure to come back because they made that much of an impression on me. Can't wait to see it during Halloween! My friends and I visited Pine Box on a Tuesday night for a casual hangout. The space is great--plenty of room, a heated patio that's dog-friendly even in winter, and friendly staff. The drinks were solid, and the overall atmosphere was inviting. However, the food service was unexpectedly slow. The bar seemed moderately busy, but we waited ~25 minutes for our big pretzels and then a full hour for nachos that, unfortunately, weren't very memorable. What made it frustrating was watching several personal pizzas come out before our much simpler order. I'm not sure what was happening in the kitchen, but the pacing felt off. That said, the staff was kind but frazzled and I understand that some nights just run slower than expected. If you're coming for drinks and a laid-back atmosphere, it's a solid choice! Enjoyed taking in all the ambiance that this former funeral parlor for the Bruce Lee funeral and all the pictures and memorabilia. This spot has an excellent happy hour! Really good discounts on drinks and food. We loved the Adult Lunchable option. We ended up with a snack tray due to a kitchen mix up so we tried that as well. I had a pint of beer as well. And then my partner got a pepperoni pizza that he was impressed with. The service was solid and food came out pretty quickly. The ambiance was really interesting and fun because it's in what was formerly a funeral home/chapel. The Pine Box is one of my go-to bars in the neighborhood! It is a converted mortuary turned into a bar, which makes it an interesting spot to bring visitors. There are still elements of the mortuary left, including the columns of front, vaulted seatings, organ, and seating. I normally order the pizzas, which all have great morgue themed pun names. You can purchase pints of local beers and other drinks at the bar, and food via a QR code on the table. There is plenty of seating on the weekdays I have visited, and also patio space for days with warmer weather. Service has been quick and friendly in my experience too! read more

Drove by this place on the way to the hotel - loved the exterior and the sign that said 'BEER' hung outside. Always one way to catch my attention.. Inside is an old church, which is super interesting from a history perspective. Food ranged from better than average pizzas, to unique sounding appetizers that ultimately fell a bit flat for us. Our meals were good when they were simple - anything that sounded a bit wild didn't live up to our expectations. Service was..mediocre. Bartender was fairly unhelpful discussing their large beer selection, and mildly impatient. Food came out staggered with some waiting a long time near the end. Love this place! been here a few times and service and drinks are always good! Was here recently with a friend getting drinks and food. I ordered a blue drink from the Pride menu and it was delicious! Reminded me a lot like yogurt soju. My friend and I split a margarita pizza. It was so good, each piece had a round knob of mozzarella. He mostly had beer but he said they had his favorite on tap so that's a plus. We'll probably be back. He's like a neighborhood over. We sat upstairs and the QR code to order virtually wasn't working so I had to come down and put in the food order for the table. Went in on a Wednesday evening. We sat outside and had to order by the menu. One person from our group was able to order food and the other couldn't. It kept erroring and they had to order up at the bar for food. The person who ordered at the bar ended up getting their food first before anyone else who had ordered via the QR code at the table. The person who did the QR code, their food was just sitting under the hot lights for 5-10 minutes until finally they just got up and grabbed it. I typically don't like when people do that but they weren't getting their food and they were on a time crunch and had to be out pretty quickly. The food wasn't very good. The soup had a bitter note at the end, the brisket sandwich was like jerky, and the pot pie had a weird taste and the middle of the crust didn't seem cooked. When we first got there, it wasn't that busy so we were surprised the food took so long. By the time we left, it was more loud and busy with groups outside. I don't think we will be giving this place another shot for food. It may be good place for a cocktail or beer though. I will say while the food wasn't to my liking, I was happy that they had non-alcoholic options for drinks. read more

This is a VERY cool brewpub! They have about 30 craft brews on tap (most of them local), wine, a full bar, and basic pub food such as pizzas, etc. But the food seems to be made in house, and not from a frozen bag like some places do. The Margherita pizza is $13 and a decent enough size to serve two. The mozzarella cheese was soooo ooey gooey, and the pie had plenty of fresh chopped tomatoes on a light thin crisp crust. The tomato sauce was sweet but not overly so. The only thing I didn't care for was that there was too much basil topping it. The crust seemed to be cooked over an open flame because it had just a slight black char to it but not too much - it was perfectly crisped and had a slight smoky taste to it like it was cooked over an open flame. Now, on to the building and the atmosphere. The Pinebox was a former mortuary and was the place that Bruce Lee's funeral was held. Steve McQueen, and other celebrities were in attendance. Architecturally speaking, it's quite striking. The upper balcony can be reserved for private parties. I sat at the bar on my recent visit and as far as the service goes, I was really taken care of. Beer refills and food orders were handled promptly. It's located just far enough away from the downtown area, so they have lower beer prices. Draft beer is $1.00 off during happy hour. read more
