I came here last night with a friend for a quick dinner. I had "The Pinnacle" with pulled pork, lobster mac and cheese, and a few other toppings. My friend had a 1/3 pound angus burger with "The Freak" toppings, which was supposed to include pulled pork, onion ring, etc. but the chef forgot the pulled pork. We also shared a cup of chili. I thought my sandwich was pretty okay. I felt that the pulled pork in my sandwich could've used more sauce; it was a bit lacking in the flavor department. However, as a sandwich, overall it was quite tasty. This was in spite of it being topped with "lobster mac and cheese" of which not a single bite of lobster was able to make it onto my sandwich. Also, I found it odd that in their lobster mac and cheese they used large shells as the pasta. My friend thought the burger was okay as well. She said that it was one of the greasiest burgers she'd ever eaten. This did seem to be the truth. As she bit into it, grease exploded from different directions onto the plate and table. She was also annoyed that they forgot her pulled pork on the burger but they did make up for it. We got free cheesecake for dessert which was absolutely the most delicious part of the meal. I thought the chili was okay. Again, my friend thought so too. Nothing spectacular but decently good. My friend thought it had too much of a tomato flavor to it. I can admit that they used a bit too much tomato, but it was still pretty good. Once again, the dessert of cheesecake really was the highlight of the meal. read more

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner! Tonight, it was John's turn to pick the cuisine, and he (somewhat predictably) yearned for steak and french fries at an establishment that served rum and coke. Scanning Yelp for someplace local we hadn't yet visited, up pops a sponsored listing for The Pines Tavern in Bristol, which we must have passed so many times. We checked out the menu online, and noticed a variety of offerings that would appeal to both of us. Off we went. The restaurant is cozy, with perhaps a dozen tables and an intimate square bar that seats 15 or so. Three televisions provide diners with sporting events. Now comes the surprise for a vintage local bar. The food is not your typical bar fare. It is tasty and homemade, with inventive combinations of flavors and attractive presentation. My beverage of choice is beer. The selection at The Pines is modest, but well thought out. A craft IPA is usually on draft and a dozen or so respectable craft beers are available in bottles, including Rogue Dead Guy, Flying Fish, Sam Adams, & Yards brews, and Ballantine India Pale Ale (the latter, my choice for the evening.) Our friendly server recited the night's specials to us. John opted for one of them - a rib eye steak covered in horseradish and gorgonzola, served with two sides. I went for something a little out of my usual zone and ordered a sandwich called "The Pinnacle:" pork carnitas topped with macaroni and cheese on a garlic-butter swabbed bun. I swapped the side of fries for green beans for just a bit of calorie containment. Everything we ordered was a standout. The Pinnacle was excellent. The meat was lean and the mac n cheese gave it a tangy and slightly creamy boost. The bread was very good (so important). Although the combo sounded like an artery-clogger, it was nicely balanced and not greasy. John's steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare - and it was loaded with gorgonzola and horseradish so the flavors really came out. The smashed redskin potatoes that accompanied them were homemade and totally delicious. Our green beans were perfect, too, with a touch of butter and a fresh snap left in them. We are so glad we discovered another comfortable, modest, friendly, independent, and innovative local establishment. read more

The place kinda looks like a dive from outside but inside it is a humble but friendly bar that btw also has delicious food. The filet mignon tip sandwich is great, their ribs when available are fantastic and the meat just slides off the bone, they have great fish dishes and they secretly serve bangin cheesesteaks. Literally everything there is good and there's no way I can cover it all. The bar is a great place to socialize with random folks and if you want more privacy then you can always get a table. The staff are always pleasant and friendly, this place is a gem. read more

I simply love this pub. Old fashioned pub grub, friendly service. When I was there, live music was going on which provided a nice touch. Sometimes simple and good is enough; no bells and whistles needed. If you offer good service, good food, serve good beer... it's hard to go wrong. We stopped in on Sunday for lunch and arrived a little earlier than they were open. Ashley at the bar welcomed us in anyway, and after several hours on the road we were so grateful. Yummy bloody Mary's with a fantastic lunch was just perfect. Everyone was friendly and you could tell this is where the locals eat which in my opinion is always the best place! Small, local bar with excellent food!!!! I had The South Philly (bunless) it came with a side of chips. It was full of flavor. My husband had the Homemade Meatloaf that came with mashed potatoes and green beans. He said it was awesome, he highly recommends! As an appetizer we had the asparagus cappocola which was a special. It was delicious!!!! The music was at a very nice level, you can hear it but also have a conversation without yelling!!! Rosemary and Ashley were excellent!!!! We sat down and Rosemary made eye contact and came over quickly. She was very attentive and helpful with the menu and specials. We ordered takeout for six of us and everything was awesome! Ordering from their menu on Facebook was super simple and they had everything ready for us when we arrived at 6 PM. Update: I had a thin 10oz pub steak over cooked, drowned to death in a horseradish mayo sauce and a muddled, mostly black, Black and Tan. I asked for fries and instead got the mashed potatoes which were default. I've never been here when it was busy, my mistake? Or maybe just a fluke. At any rate, 5 stars were ambitious it seems. ------- 5-stars? 5-stars you say? Yes, 5-stars. The bartenders are all wonderful. Nicole, Holly and the one this evening whose name escapes me. Service with a smile. But that's nothing compared to the food. I came here for the burger legend that had been tossed around, but came back for the: homemade chips, the short rib dishes, the BBQ ribs, the fries, the sides, the Soprano, the beer battered shrimp, the pork roll fries, the French onion soup, and tonight I try the 10oz boneless ribeye with Cajun shrimp and a side of veggies and potatoes. Sure to be a winner if all these other dishes tell me anything. There is something good for everyone here. As a guy who lives in Manhattan, take it from me, as good a dish here as anywhere. So friendly, so good on the basic foods. Not very big but great on the food and the service. The bartenders don't miss a beat and are great for this neighborhood bar. Definitely coming back. If I could go negative I would ...terrible terrible terrible. Unless you're a regular... the bartenders don't give a crap about you. I've been there twice. The first time was fine the food was good the one bartender was pleasant. The next time we went you can't even get your drink refilled and the bartenders leaned up against the bar and talked to only specific people for periods of time. Very disconcerting. Which is the reason we've lived here for six years and never have been there. My husband and his sons used to come in there and we're treated the exact same way years ago. Came down to The Pines Tavern on Radcliffe Street in old Bristol Borough to celebrate mi cumpleanos the other night. Yelp reviews were very positive, and it had been a while since I had anything more than a cup of great coffee (Calm Waters Coffee Roasters) in this old river city. The bar/dining room is small, with square bar and perhaps ten to fifteen stools and equal number of tables. The room is dark with several HDTVs for sport enthusiasts. The crowd was a mix of octogenarians and middle aged folks, who all seemed to get along smashingly. Drinks were very reasonably priced, and the custom beer list, while limited, had enough for us to be satisfied. Service was prompt and friendly with black T-shirted smiling servers always available to bring what you needed. The kitchen feels mostly homegrown talent. They know what they are doing, especially in the realm of American or ethno-American cuisine. The plates are full to overflowing, while still being dusted with herb and sauce for that new-American high end look. I came for the Meatloaf and was lucky enough to discover it was "Meatloaf Night." Saved a buck or two. The meal was very good, with Garlic Mashed and fresh Steamed String Beans. Liked it a lot! My companions ordered Lobster Mac and Cheese, which came in a low baking dish, topped with Bread Crumbs and melted Cheese. It was tasty, but to my tongue, the cheese was too strong for the Lobster and hid much of its flavor. The third entre, a Chicken/Shrimp Thai Curry with Brown Rice, was weaker, as we knew Thai food too well to find this imitation close enough to experience and expectations. The curry was a little off as if they might not have had all the ingredients needed for authenticity. Plenty of bird and shellfish. We also ordered the Buffalo Cheesesteak & Fries app. It was huge and plenty hot between the Buffalo Red Sauce and semi-melted Blue Cheese. Our twenty year old inhaled most of this. It was a big hit. All in all, we enjoyed our evening at The Pines. This is far more than your average neighborhood tavern. A real effort has been made to polish the kitchen and bring in people who want more than just bar food. In this they have succeeded, even if not perfectly. We applaud the effort and love the atmosphere. We will be back. read more

I was in the area with a family member in the local hospital. The reviews drew me in. Things started off okay with a friendly server. I ordered a tall gin and tonic and when it arrived it seemed a bit strong (more on that later). I perused the expansive menu and selected a grilled cheese which included short rib, but learned they had sold out of short run earlier. I then selected the Cowboy, but asked for the horseradish sauce to be left off. When it arrive at the table...you guessed it, horseradish sauce. The plate went back to the kitchen and it looks like they dissembled my sandwich in an attempt to remove the sauce. They got about 90% of it off. When my check arrived, I noticed that my drink was coded in as a double, vice a tall, explaining why it was extra strong. When the check came back, my credit card was missing, requiring a thorough search by the staff until they could find it, which took about 5 panicked minutes. So, all in all, I'd say the Pines Tavern was barely average. But it seems like a very friendly place with a clientele of regulars who are obviously very fond of it, so maybe my visit was out of the ordinary. read more

I've started coming here because the Dog and Bull has become way, way too popular lately and I can't even get in. I need a place to go to kick back with good company and some beers! Luckily, the Pines is just right down the street and has a full menu, full bar and is full of decent people, too. A nice crowd. Late 20s, 30s+ is what you'll find here. The food here is okay! It's not all your standard bar food. They have spicy shrimp in thai peanut sauce over brown rice. It wasn't bad. They have wings, meatloaf, flatbreads...a nice variety. I'm not really a huge fan of their beer selection, but that's probably because I'm a craft beer snob and that's my issue, not theirs. I recommend it here. read more

I had drinks and dinner at this place and I thought the experience would be a tad bit better but it was average. I ordered the meatloaf and it wasn't anything special like people have boasted about. It was just plain old meatloaf I wouldn't order again. My husband ordered the Pinnacle sandwich and it sounds better than it tastes. You could barely taste the lobster in the lobster Mac and Cheese and someone left it toasting or in the broiler too long as it hard some dark toasty black spots. We got the short rib quesadilla for an app and that was okay. Place is clean. Staff is nice. Drinks were good. All in all I may come back but would order different things as the dishes we had were average at best. I like the places concept though! Covid friendly environment. We made a reservations. We were initially seated in the dining area at a reserved table, but they moved us to a 2 person table right next to the bar. It was noisy as some of the bar patrons were a little drunk. Was a little surprised since we had a reservation. The food- I ordered the burger and my wife ordered a chicken Parm sandwich. The burger was juicy, but not seasoned. The fries were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The chicken parm sandwich was good. Drinks- Moscato very good, Jack and Coke was light on the Jack. Heard so much about the pines and the great food. Went last Sunday with Daughters. Ordered the special Thai Chili Shrimp & vegs over brown rice. $15. Shrimp was OK to many carrots and they never put it on a bed of brown rice. Ate half the plate and realized the rice wasn't there. No roll, no salad just a small plastic plate with incomplete meal.
