Solid pizza. There seem to be lots of "create your own pizza places" a lot now and Pizza Press is at the top. Besides Blaze Pizza, this establishment is one of my go to pizza spots. I reviewed Blaze before and Pizza Press is very similar. Instead of putting the pizza in one of those huge ovens, Pizza Press puts there pizza along a line in an "extended oven?" I'm not sure what they're called but it reminds me of the toasters in hotel lobbies that slowly pushes the bread along. I eat here often and I really enjoy the pizza they make. What I do not enjoy is the chaotic order-pay-pick up system. After 10+ meals here, I'm still not sure how it's supposed to work. I've been to quite a few of these customizable pizza places, and The Pizza Press takes the cake (or I should say "takes the pie")! I love the cute theme and ambiance of the restaurant, and the food is great! I've ordered both signature and "publish your own" pizzas, and everything I've eaten has been delicious. Two of the ways in which The Pizza Press stands out are: - The pizzas are sufficiently cheesy! Many similar places I've been to skimp on the cheese, and I've learned to request extra cheese. I didn't have to do so at The Pizza Press. - The crust is strong! When I load up my pizza with toppings at other places, the toppings fell off because the crust couldn't handle the weight. Not here! I was impressed that even with tons of toppings, the pizza maintained its integrity. My dad ordered pretty much every single topping on his pizza last night, and the pizza didn't fall apart at all. The price they charge for a pizza is reasonable ($9-$10). I've only gone here with buy one get one free offers, but I'd return even without a coupon! read more

Hands-down the best pizza I've ever had. Great atmosphere, very helpful staff, and awesome ingredients to choose from. They're very helpful, VERY reasonably priced, and just overall a place you would want to bring your friends. Also, I saw they are open till 1AM, perfect for a late night snack. The whole build-your-own pizza thing has been popular the past couple of years with lots of different establishments opening up. Now that I have lots of experience with others under my belt, I can safely say that Pizza Press is the best for building a custom pizza, though to be clear, it's *not* the best for a plain cheese pizza because it's good, but too expensive for that. Their process and the available ingredients make their pizzas super awesome. First off, under the cheese on top of your sauce you can have them add roasted garlic cloves and grilled onions. Yum! Then they layer on their mozzarella in the form of little tiny cubes that allows them to cover the pizza completely and evenly. All the other ingredients are mostly common, but with little differences here and there. The next big difference is how the pizza is cooked. It's set on a conveyor belt that goes through an oven at a very slow, specific speed, so it'll be cooked exactly the same way every time; no more people pushing it back & forth in a stone oven and popping dough bubbles. At the exit end of the oven you can ask that your pizza be made well done. The employee will just push it backward on the conveyor belt a bit so it'll have a little extra time to get more browned and crispier. (Yum!) After it's out, you have the choice of several toppings to add including some veggies like arugula, but also several choices of sauces. I highly recommend the balsamic glaze and the chimichurry sauce. They are delish! Finally, if you like beer, they have a menu of about 40 different types listed on a chalkboard that changes. And they'll even give you samples of different types if you aren't sure what to get. (Be sure to tip if you do that!) read more

I tired this place for the first time a few weeks ago and it was great. Fast, fresh, and amazing! They off variations of sauces, meats, cheeses, veggies, and additional toppings to put on after it's done. One thing that I really liked was the fact that they run it through a conveyor oven. It makes the pizza crispier which reduces the soggy factor while eating. I have been here with my run club and they are always very welcoming and extremely nice! Excellent customer service. It does get packed but the staff is always in a good energetic mood. They take the time to make sure you publish your pizza how you like it. Never give you that "stare" if you forgot a topping or want more of something. They are always going around making sure everything is good. If you are finished with a glass/pizza pallet, they take it. If it looks like you need a box, they will ask and bring you one. Oh, and did I mention, they have a great selection of BEERS on tap which rotate! Mmm pizza and beer the best combo. *TIP* If you are only getting beer you can jump to the register and order there rather than wait if there is a long line for the people getting pizza. read more

Wandered into this pizza place after trying to find what's open late at night... Stumbled upon this place at around midnight and so glad I did! The pizzas are big enough for two people to share or if you're really hungry, you could probably finish the whole pizza yourself. The concept of building your own pizza has always interested me, but I'm not the biggest pizza fan out there, so I have yet to try out the concept. I love the thin crust allowing you to enjoy more of the toppings and not being too bready. I opted for the Alfredo sauce and was a little worried but it was even better than marinara sauce. I would definitely come back and order to take home. The staff here is friendly and I don't think I could ever go back to Pizza Hut or dominoes again. They should train their employees to know the gluten free options. I asked what toppings were gluten free and the employee looked at me, shrugged and said "I don't know, the veggies?" And they almost cut my pizza using the exact pizza cutter that they used for all the others pizzas. I was lucky enough to be standing there waiting for my pizza so I could ask them to change the knife because I could get allergic eating gluten. Most people go here for the pizza and the beer. I go here for the ice cream sandwich! The pizza is good but that ice cream sandwich is even better. The pizza is not bad but the lack of organization is pretty bad. Anytime that I've ordered a pizza there was a problem. They don't have a great system of telling who's pizza is who's. The ice cream sandwich is something so simple, but is so good. It's just vanilla ice cream between two soft baked chocolate chip cookies. The combination of the two is unbelievable and definitely satisfies this sweet tooth. If it wasn't for this dessert I would probably give the place three stars. read more

I like everything about this place, but it's so messy/dirty. The toppings are spilled everywhere, mixed in with other toppings, and the counters are so dirty. Walking in I fell in love with the theme and everything! They had a newspaper stand holding the menus and actual newspaper! Their pizza dough is lightly spritzed with olive oil and then pressed into a pizza shaper. I picked Pink Sauce which is a combination of Alfredo and Marinara as my base. Topped it with parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese balls. MY! (My pizza came out super cheesy!) anyways... I topped it with pepperoni, pineapples, jalapeños, & zucchini then into the oven it went! I used to work at Papa John's a few years back and standing there waiting for the pizza to run through the oven brought back some fond memories. Terrible. Came in at 11:10 (50 minutes before they close) to the sounds of the lady with the glasses (I'm assuming it's the manager) screaming, "OMG". She started complaining about taking my group of friends and I in. She would not stop speaking to her coworkers about how tired she is and having to take orders this late. I and one of my friends left immediately as we were not going to stay there having to listen to her complaining about us. She also locked the doors as we went out so no one else could go in. As I waited for my friends to come out, a couple tried going in but she told them she would not take them at 11:20. First time writing one of these but something needed to be said. These diy pizza places seem to popping up all over California, and when I saw this one being added to the circle I had high hopes for some really good pizza! I went on a Friday night and there was a line out the door, the set up didn't seem very conducive to long lines, but after waiting 20 min, I hoped the pizza would make up for that. The set up is the same as Pieology and Blaze, you can make your own pizza or order a pre designed one. We ordered "the Chronicle" and "the Tribune", did I mention everything was paper press themed?(Including lots of cute guys in cabbie hats). We got to the end of the line where they offer a selection of Kraft beers on tap, except the one I wanted of course. The pizzas popped out and we scrambled to get a seat. The food presentation was decent, however the pizza itself...so not impressed. I mean pizza is usually pizza, but I don't know if it was the ingredients or what, but my pizza was ridiculously greasy and unsatisfying. I'm really not that picky when it comes to pizza, but for all the hype and long lines, so wasn't worth it. I will say however everyone working was really friendly and worked quickly to clear tables and assist customers. read more

Not like from a person, but a strong sewage smell. Was not a good way to be greeted as i entered from the back parking lot. Food was ready, great pleasant and quick service. However today after we ate something was not right. We got our usuals but this time our stomachs hurt, and 6 hours later I still don't feel right. I just can't anymore with Pizza Press. I've gotten food poisoning here two or three times, as have a couple friends. The pizza isn't that good anyways, just a thin greasy mess. Something that also really bugs me is that adding vegan cheese to your pizza costa $2 extra making the pizza $11.85 before tax but if you get a normal cheese pizza with up to FOUR meats it's still $9.85. Why shouldn't the meat eaters also pay a premium if they want all that meat? If I get a vegan pizza with no normal cheese and no meats it should work out to the same price or a bit more but really, $2? I think the primary source of food poisoning here is any raw vegetables like the basil, also the ranch dressing, and the cookies. But it could really be anything. I will never return. read more

Finally tried The Pizza Press today and I am officially a fan. This place has an incredible array of sauces, toppings, and extra goodies. Not only was the pizza DELISH (see pic for a mouthwatering glimpse of my personally "published" pizza), but the service was awesome! Eddie, a homie, spent at least ten minutes helping my friends and I pick out beers suited to our very different tastes. Great Pizza + Great Service + Great Atmosphere = all around Win Tip: try the pesto or chimmichurri sauce on top of your pizza! So good. read more

That the man ahead is the "last customer " because she had a couple online orders. There were maybe 2 or 3 people ahead of me and the employees didn't seem to have many orders. Why have your hours listed as CLOSED at 12am if you're not going to accept customers that walk in beforehand? I've had a long day and all I wanted was your pizza and now I have to go somewhere else! This is poor customer service. I have been a loyal customer for quite some time and I see lately that your employees are what's driving your business to the ground. I work in the restaurant business as well and I understand the hardship of these difficult times, but these kids don't care about their job or your business. I hope this gets better. read more

A lot of places are doing the fast gourmet personal pizzas. I've been to many of them but j haven't been to one who does it as well as the Pizza Press. We went to this one in Orange and these guys nail everything. The decor fits their 1920s newspaper press theme really well, the service is awesome, the ingredients are so fresh and they do not skimp on there toppings (so many places do). The prices are awesome and they play great music. And the free wi-fi is a great touch to keep the place a favorite with the young crowd (although I don't think they have any problems with that - the place gets really crowded). Wow. I think I've found my new "make-your-own" pizza place. I've always liked Pieology, and recently started eating Pizza Rev because of its proximity to my house, but after coming here for the first time, I must say that this place takes the cake. Upon walking in, I immediately noticed how white and airy this place is. The way it's set up could not be nicer. We were greeted by the gentleman behind the counter when we walked in and we were off to create our pizzas! The choices of sauces & toppings are pretty much about the same as Pieology more or less. At least, there isn't something that I noticed that stood out from the toppings. I do kind of wish they had spicy bacon cause some other places have it, but the spicy red sauce and jalapeños made up for the spice I was looking for regardless. I ordered my pizza with quite a few toppings whereas my friend ordered his with just pepperoni, sausage, and jalapeños. When we paid, we decided to get a flight of beer. They have a very good selection of beers here, so if you're looking for pizza & beer, this is a sweet spot. I can't remember all of the beers we ordered in our flight (there's 4), but they all tasted pretty damn good to me. One of the employees let us try a few samples of the beer first before we decided to go through with them. He seemed very knowledgable of all of the beers and what we might be looking for based on our preferences, so kudos to him! We were transferred to a really nice girl who took our payment. Our total came out to no more than $25; not too bad. The prices here are pretty similar to places like Pieology & Pizza Rev. I really wish I had ordered an ice cream sandwich cause they looked delicious - maybe next time. Parking here may or may not be troublesome depending on the time, but this time we didn't have an issue; we parked right in front. No meters at all which is a huge plus. Old Town Orange is a very neat area; it's close to Chapman University so expect some college students in the area. Overall, this part of town had a very "small town" America feel. The traffic circle is nice to walk to and there's plenty of bars and restaurants around here so if you're looking for somewhere to have drinks after your visit here, you wont be disappointed. read more

The main differentiation between Pizza Press and the others are the ingredients they use!! They have a wider selection of ingredients. Pizza press is really solid. I've tried quite a few different pizza places set up this way and I may have found a new favorite. I hate to give it to a place after one visit but I'll be back and I'm sure it will be just as good. So the positives: they offer white sauce unlike every other place I've been to like this. They have roasted garlic and onions that you can put on under the cheese which was amazing. They have tons of different drizzle options which are nicely located at the end of the line before the register. Lots of desert options, and good beers on tap. Cons: it's extremely packed so seating is very difficult to find. I wish the work line was longer so they could operate quicker like pieoloy does but they are fairly new and can increase the speed in due time I'm sure. It was worth the 25minute wait to try this place out and I will certainly be back. Great, fresh tasting ingredients and tons of options to add on your pizza. read more

Stopped by The Pizza Press last night around 9:00 p.m. and the place was a mess. The counter and condiments were littered with scraps. I ended up having a lot of extras on my pizza because of this. The worst part is several pizzas got backed up because there was only one register open and that person was also handling the taps, and handing out boxes for leftovers. The pizzas were 8 deep out of the oven and waiting for their person, then waiting some more. When we got our pizzas and sat down they were warm at best, mine had sat awhile and was mostly cold. The staff were yelling back and forth at each other, then started to make a game out of it. I was pretty bummed out about the whole trip. I hope they can get some quality management on site to work out these glitches and gripes. read more
