    Welts from this stupid footboard!
    K B.

Rooms small, over crowded with furniture, one of which has a door that's falling off. All mismatched. Bed is very comfy, but has a useless footboard, which projects too far into the crowded space. Getting up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night resulted in a nasty bruise. Broke the skin! Room had wet carpet near the bathroom door, which hasn't dried two days later. Musty, mildewy smell in room. Five lights in room, but still too dark to do makeup anywhere but bathroom. Bathroom is nice and has large counter. Towels small and not absorbent. Hotel towels aren't usually too plush, but these were poorer than what I expected. Buffet breakfast decent, even for vegetarians. Either the folks next to us were quiet, or the walls are very sound proof, which was a nice surprise. Good views on the 10th floor.

Stayed at this hotel for a wedding reception and it definitely has some good and bad things. Pros - The price: $159.00 a night made it one of my cheapest wedding hotels for the season. - Breakfast included with the room! It was a pretty solid breakfast spread as well. - Parking free with overnight stay. - Very centrally located - Free shuttle around town - Clean room with good AC and free wifi - Refrigerator in room Cons - It seems to be the place to stay for weddings and as such there was always a ton of lobby traffic and elevator waiting - Deadlock on our door had been ripped off - Safe in several people's rooms did not work which seems unsafe (no pun intended) - Lack of bedside electrical plugs. I know this sounds weird but no plugs next to the bed so I had to charge my phone in the bathroom - Hairdressers also didn't work for multiple guests so we had to run around sharing driers between rooms - Bridal suite missing a hook to hang the dress on - Alarm clock USB charger broken in multiple rooms - The thermostat is so confusing - I was one of the only guests in our bridal party to figure it out so I went room to room turning it on. That seems like it shouldn't be such a process, right? All in all probably the best place in town to stay for a wedding but they could do with a check of their appliances and maybe figure out the security issues with the deadlocks and safes.

Black coffee. No milk provided. Had to ask for coffee even though it was on the table.
    Daniel V.

Dirty chairs and outdated furniture is the highlight. The food... omg... the food is abysmal. Chicken was inedible as was the ham. Potatoes were meh as was the Caesar salad. Bartenders were great and service was mostly good. No one wanted to serve coffee so it stayed black without milk. Cake was like the Sahara dessert. Not an ideal wedding location. Their sister location Anthony's is superior.

I've never had a bad meal, and the service is always spot-on, with a thoughtful system that lets you signal when you need something without ever feeling rushed or overlooked. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with great music, fun events, and a family-friendly vibe that makes it easy to relax and stay awhile. Whether you're inside or enjoying the outdoor seating, it's just an all-around great experience every time. Easily a five-star spot in my book.

Our day started with a Chinese tea ceremony in the barn and then a catered lunch. About 6:30pm, the ceremony with a live music started followed by passed hors d'oeuvre, fresh oysters, and wood fired pizza. The wood fired pizza was very delicious and I enjoyed the blackened shrimp and the arancini. I tried the cider and the rosé, but they were too dry for my taste. Then at 7:45pm, we went into the reception pavilion. The menu consisted of a salad as first course, a duet plate of salmon and beef short rib for entree, and dessert. The summer citrus salmon with the multi grain pilaf was very good. After first dance, father and daughter dance, mother and son dance, and speeches, the DJ told us to step outside. After a few minutes, the sky exploded with light. It was a beautiful fireworks display from the hillside. The bathrooms were stocked with essentials in the toiletry baskets. Red Maple Vineyard offers a rustic barn and reception pavilion, massive green grounds, and a beautiful garden.

The venue came into new ownership very recently and their communication with our bride was terrible. After finding it nearly impossible to get in touch, many details were left unconfirmed until a few days before the wedding event. They are assured by Jordan, however, that things would be smooth after an apology for going awol. This did not occur. Upon arrival, The groom found none of the tables set up and that their video slideshow and playlist (which had been discussed and confirmed with Jordan) were not set up or playing either. He had to spend the beginning of his own event setting this up. After the guests had arrived, there was a delay with the selected passed hors d'oeuvres coming out and the ones passed out were not what were selected ahead of time. When the bride inquired to the delay and mistake, she was cursed at by the staff member, Demal, who raised his voice and said they were "fucking coming!" and that she needed to relax. It was completely inappropriate and made our bride cry and miss out on time during her special event. The actual dinner food that eventually did come out was almost entirely different from what the bride and groom had selected and included no vegetarian options that were also preplanned. One of the guests actually went to a pizza place to pay for pizza for the rest of the vegetarians. It was absolutely unacceptable and made the couple deeply disappointed. The literal only positive was the server, Angel. She went out of her way amidst all the chaos to check in with our bride and to make sure that everyone was OK despite all the challenges. It should be noted that while everyone else had a cold or quite objectively mean demeanor, Angel was exceptionally warm and apologetic. I would absolutely not recommend this venue to anyone looking for a smooth event that matched their planning. The staff both ahead of time and at the event were poor communicators, unprofessional, and downright rude. Definitely take your business elsewhere.

Please also know we have never left a poor review before. We booked with the Keepsake for our rehearsal dinner when Dana, the sales coordinator, was our contact and she was incredible. When the new owners took over, it became an absolute nightmare. We reached out to them with multiple emails and voicemails weeks before our event until finally receiving a phone call back. The same situation occurred days before the event when we were unable to reach them again. This made an already stressful time even worse. Then the day of our rehearsal dinner was an absolute disaster. They were in complete breach of our contract in every way and form. The groom had to set up the chairs himself upon arrival (or else it wouldn't have been done), and other things we were assured would be ready (our video slideshow, a staff greeter, our playlist and more) were nowhere to be found. Only some items from our menu were served, while many were completely left out. We had hungry guests traveling from long distances and were left waiting for food that was served an hour after the agreed upon time. So many food items were wrong and missing that one of our guests had to run and get pizza so our vegetarians would have something to eat. This was especially shocking since our menu and timeline was clear and even created during a meeting with Damel and Dana. Jordan was not present at the event due to family emergency. But Damel, instead of being apologetic and attempting to fix the problems, was rude, aggressive and defensive. He accused the groom of yelling at the staff (he did not) and had the nerve to scold the crying bride to "calm down". He then cursed at us saying "the f'ing appetizers are coming out" (they did not). As for the buffet, some food was cold, serving utensils were missing, and refill trays weren't filled for 20 minutes. The night before our wedding, we were made to feel like the bad guys for simply wanting our agreed upon event and bride spent most of the evening crying. The only bright spot in the horrible night was Angel, the catering manager, who had only worked there a week. She was apologetic and kind and attempted to put out every fire she could. She even downloaded Spotify premium on her own dime to get our playlist playing. Thank you Angel! The rest of the staff were also working as hard as they could when being put in a terrible position by terrible management. The owners excuses were insufficient and their behavior was inexcusable. They were, unprepared, downright cruel, and completely mishandled our event. We cannot warn you enough to never book at the Keepsake, at least while Jordan and Damel are in charge.

After dining at Shadows on the Hudson, we were elated because we had a beautiful dining experience and were ready for the next day. Came here for dinner on a Friday night and the place was lively and busy. I loved how there were different vibes throughout the restaurant. There was the main dining room that over looked the water, where we dined, a more chill lounge type area as well as a private room - all stunning in their own right. Our server was Nico and he was great - giving us his honest recommendations - from my mocktail to my friends choice of port wine. I had the ginger mule mocktail which was 10/10. To eat, I opened for the classic Caesar salad with crispy chicken which was soooo good and the portion was absolutely massive. A bunch of my friends got the filet in addition to the salmon. We all loved our meals and were the last ones in the place - as the place closed relatively early for a Friday, at 9. All in all, we had a beautiful experience - I only wished it was day time for a view of the bridge - but we were lucky enough to see it next day for the wedding next door. Thanks to Shadows on the Hudson for an amazing dinner!

Once we were seated at the bar (always our preference), I noticed that both the bar and dining areas are beautifully appointed. The bar's lounge area was very welcoming and the chairs looked like we could stay there for hours. We just might when we come back!! Our bartender greeted us with a smile and menus - from there, we ordered a Juice Bomb (IPA), and the Martini Rinaldi (vodka-gin martini). Let's just say I'm ruined for martinis forever and will ALWAYS want this martini. It's a perfect martini ... and I will fight anyone who tries to convince me otherwise. As far as food goes, we shared the Zucchini & Eggplant Chips. SO much food for just an appetizer (highly encourage sharing). Really flavorful chips, served with smooth tzatziki (nicely done!). Husband had the Bourbon Burger (lunch special). Properly cooked burger (med rare), juicy burger, good flavor, great ratio of burger to sauces/toppings, not overly messy but just right, and the fries were double-fried so they had that perfect crunch quality. I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich (also a lunch special), and I have to say (again), the BEST chicken sandwich I've ever had. Beautifully crisped chicken, cabbage slaw, homemade pickles, chipotle mayo were perfectly flavored, seasoned, and balanced. It's like the perfect bite in an entire sandwich and doesn't leave your hands super messy. The sandwich is typically served with fries but I chose the house salad and it was a nice burst of freshness from a rich sandwich. That dressing is delish!! Overall... this was the kind of lunch that's WELL worth the 90 minute drive (because that's exactly what we did... haha). The Executive Chef (John Malone) is a talented individual and this place is a true Diamond on the Hudson. As a side note ... the real show-stopper is the views of the Hudson River. I couldn't get a proper picture - you'll just have to trust me. Can't wait to come back!!

The location itself is breathtaking, set in a beautifully restored historic mansion right on the Hudson River. However, the real highlight was getting a behind-the-scenes look at their distillation process. Charles was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate as he walked us through their production of rye, bourbon, gin, and vodka. A must-try is their vodka, which Charles proudly explained is distilled a remarkable 12 times. I can confidently say it is the best vodka I have ever sampled--exceptionally smooth. I was also impressed by their other spirits: Northwest Passage Gin: This gin stands out because it uses naturally soft water sourced directly from their artesian wells. Black Creek Bourbon: I was fortunate enough to sample a limited Founder's Batch of this bourbon. It is truly hand-crafted, made using limestone-softened natural artesian well water. The depth of care and quality put into every bottle is evident, and the personal details shared by the founder made the spirits taste even better. If you have the chance, I highly recommend asking for the tour--it provides an incredible appreciation for the craftsmanship at Hudson House Distillery.

Toning down the color scheme and upgrading the finishes lends the space to a multitude of tastes and purposes from corporate gatherings to private social affairs. The staff was attentive, but would benefit from a team briefing about the menu and ingredients. I spent decades in hospitality management and understand the benefit of staff tastings before serving. That practice elevates the experience for attendees by assuring that the staff is well-versed on the ingredients and preparation before they interact with guests. For example, readers of my reviews understand that I have food, allergies. It's important for me to be discreet about asking what ingredients are used in the preparation at a past hors d'oeuvres event. On two occasions within the same half hour, I asked the server if there were any alliums used in the preparation. They did not know what alliums were so I explained that garlic and onion family is something I was not able to eat safely. Both times, the server did not know what ingredients were used and offered to check with the kitchen. That's a great back up plan but unfortunately, that server never returned to me, presumably he was intercepted along the way by other guest who wanted to sample what was on his tray Preparing the staff in advance of an event is crucial. This was the only failure that I could see. My experience would have been elevated to four stars had the servers been better trained. The view and tasteful renovations resulted in the additional star for a total of four stars.
