Hotel is nice but needs some work. My window was wet in the morning. One of our other rooms had a broken AC/heater. Breakfast was just cereal, bagels with no toaster and store bought pastries. No hot food at all. There was also 2 fights at the bar when we where there another fight at the Grandview with the same wedding party from the bar fights. read more

PG is in need of a VERY well deserved renovation/face lift! VERY dated! The room that we had wasn't bad the bathroom could have used a good scrubbing with an effective cleaner. The bed was very comfortable. Some of our guest that was invited to the wedding at The Grandview had quite a few complaints. The parking garage could use more lighting. My husband and mother enjoyed the continental breakfast the morning we checked out. Not a fan of the area that it's located at either. It's not inviting to go take a walk. We really enjoyed this hotel. It has a Vegas feel to it. The rooms were nice. Only issue was that the mattress was squeaky like it was as wrapped in plastic. There was an issue with our reservation but it was resolved. We booked through Expedia and had a confirmation but it was not showing in their records. Ana said that there was a communication issue but did not elaborate. They do offer free cookies and breakfast. Parking is shared with the civic center and free. I stayed here after a wedding and had a great experience. All of the rooms looked very nice and had all the necessary amenities....plus a microwave and fridge! They decided to put the microwave and fridge behind a closet door to improve the aesthetic of the room, and it works. I also got to hang in one of the suites with the bride and groom. All I have to say is - wow. So spacious, what a view. The bar on the first floor is open late and will serve pizza late into the night as well. That really came in handy. Friendly, spacious, good breakfast. Checkin staff was friendly asking us about our ride to Poughkeepsie. We had out bikes with us. Of course we could keep the bikes in the room. Ice cold water and cookies were next to the checkin counter. The room was spacious, plenty of room for bikes. From our room we viewed the Walkway over the Hudson right the purpose of our ride. Rooms small, over crowded with furniture, one of which has a door that's falling off. All mismatched. Bed is very comfy, but has a useless footboard, which projects too far into the crowded space. Getting up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night resulted in a nasty bruise. Broke the skin! Room had wet carpet near the bathroom door, which hasn't dried two days later. Musty, mildewy smell in room. Five lights in room, but still too dark to do makeup anywhere but bathroom. Bathroom is nice and has large counter. Towels small and not absorbent. Hotel towels aren't usually too plush, but these were poorer than what I expected. Buffet breakfast decent, even for vegetarians. Either the folks next to us were quiet, or the walls are very sound proof, which was a nice surprise. Good views on the 10th floor. read more

Had a wedding at the Grand View down the street, It was absolutely fantastic!! We stayed here at the Grand Hotel and what a disaster that place is. Horrible service and very rude staff. As unfriendly as it gets. The front desk didn't even handout the welcome bags the bride made unless you asked them for it. The mother of the bride payed for the the hotel bar to stay open late until 12am...they had last call at 11:35pm. Rooms need upgrading and are not worth $200 a night. read more

Pros - The price: $159.00 a night made it one of my cheapest wedding hotels for the season. - Breakfast included with the room! It was a pretty solid breakfast spread as well. - Parking free with overnight stay. - Very centrally located - Free shuttle around town - Clean room with good AC and free wifi - Refrigerator in room Cons - It seems to be the place to stay for weddings and as such there was always a ton of lobby traffic and elevator waiting - Deadlock on our door had been ripped off - Safe in several people's rooms did not work which seems unsafe (no pun intended) - Lack of bedside electrical plugs. I know this sounds weird but no plugs next to the bed so I had to charge my phone in the bathroom - Hairdressers also didn't work for multiple guests so we had to run around sharing driers between rooms - Bridal suite missing a hook to hang the dress on - Alarm clock USB charger broken in multiple rooms - The thermostat is so confusing - I was one of the only guests in our bridal party to figure it out so I went room to room turning it on. That seems like it shouldn't be such a process, right? All in all probably the best place in town to stay for a wedding but they could do with a check of their appliances and maybe figure out the security issues with the deadlocks and safes. read more

Recently attended a wedding here and for the most part it was great. Food was good. Managers were helpful and always available. As far as the staff is concerned..... Most of the servers are all smiles and helpful. One server in particular is absolutely AMAZING. Great communication skills, costumer service, a little spunky and attentive. She even sprinkled a little joke from time to time with us. During cocktail hour we enjoyed the salmon cakes(wish they were bigger) and EVERYTIME she brought them out, she made sure to stop by our table and give us a few. During dinner service my family and I didn't need to ask for anything. She made sure our water was ice cold and even gave us coffee with our cake without us having to ask. By far OUR favorite server there. You can't miss her, she's the small one with the freckles! On the other hand there is another female server who looks completely lost and walks around with attitude. At one point she was gone for over 20 minutes. I had to ask another server where she was because my family needed things but she wasn't around. When she was in the room it seemed like she was attached to one male server. Personally, I wouldn't want to be seated in her area. She doesn't look like the sharpest tool in the shed, if you know what I mean. read more

Tied the knot there a couple weeks ago. Food was awesome!!! They took care of pretty much everything which made things so much easier. All our guests thought everything was 5 stars across the board. Even our chef friend figured we paid a pretty penny on the food. We didn't. Only gripe is the cocktail hour wasn't long enough lmao and the food that gets passed around on platters didn't seem to circulate enough as many of our guests didn't get to try or even know about all the food there. Stayed here for one Saturday night. Next door was the Hudson wing fest and instead of driving home drunk, we got the room here and crashed. Room was spacious, king bed was huge (bigger than usual) bit was too firm (not terrible, just needs a touch of soft, lol). Yes the hotel is dated, but not ugly. Best part was the breakfast (complementary) Eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast, bagels, oatmeal, cereal, fruit.....all you can eat and tasted just fine!! We are staying here for a wedding and have over 40 blocked rooms. That being said, I would expect polite staff looking to make us happy. I was able to check in early which was very helpful considering that I have a 6 month old. The hotel would not deliver personalized baskets to the blocked rooms. Each of the other 3 hotels in the area did not have a problem doing this for us. Upon returning from the rehearsal dinner, we found that there was no parking left in the deck due to a costume party that was held and they all parked in the lot. We asked the desk if they would validate for the lot across the street and there response was that the deck us first come, first serve. Paying hotel guests should have parking priority -- The rooms are a bit dated and the air conditioning/hearing system us very dated and confusing. The rooms are a nice size which is nice for our pack n play. Overall, for the price, I would go somewhere else. Coming back late at night, I like to know I have a place to park. The pictures of this hotel online are misleading. I just got gotten on this place (not funny). Refund please! This hotel needs some serious updating. The entryway to the private parking was so tight for our jeep.The elevator has some type of burgundy material and padding on the wall. The bedroom looks semi decent. This hotel is not worth my $200 a night though. The "restaurant" seating area seats about 30 ppl (and I am stretching that number), it's small. The food we ordered at the bar/ grill "restaurant" was about the level of what you'd get at a simple diner. The food service (1 employee) was excellent though. The price for the food was not bad. For 3 meals, 1 order of fries, 1 cup of Sprite, and 1 alcohol beverage the total was $53. The best is yet to come. We needed to wash something and guess what? There is only one dryer and one washer that serves this entire hotel. Seriously there's only one. Not one per floor, just 1 dryer and 1 washer on 1 designated floor. This place is a joke. There is no way this "grand" hotel is one of the best places to stay in Poughkeepsie NY. I refuse to believe that. The bathroom has a cheap coffee maker in it. The toilet has unpainted dated wallpaper behind it. The bathroom was half a** done. The fridge and microwave needs updating. It's stored inside a free standing cabinet. The bed comfort level is okay. I might make it to the free breakfast it is from 7am-10am. Word of mouth around here is the breakfast is awesome. It could be the best breakfast in the world, but my opinion will remain, this is a hotel for a one night stay no more than that. I'd rather sleep in my jeep. The best thing about this hotel is that we only needed it for one night and we are checking out at 8am instead of the 11am checkout time. This was a GRAND FAILURE. read more

Not sure what's so "grand" about this hotel. Pros: The room was clean and spacious, the water pressure in the shower was fine, and the drinks at the bar weren't too crazy expensive. Cons: There are actually holes in the walls and doors of our room, and a lot of them. Some are just spackled up without paint on them, some don't even have that. The complimentary breakfast doesn't have any vegan offerings - not even jelly to go with a dry, stale bagel. I mean, it's probably the best you can get in Poughkeepsie, but I guess I was expecting more. read more

This place is garbage. They market themselves as a conference center, but the WiFi is so bad we could not work. They advertise a continental breakfast, but all there was were terrible bagels, a couple a dry cereals, and coffee (coffee was disgusting and the milk was curdled). They are supposed to be affiliated with a health/fitness center nearby, by ended the affiliation "due to COVID". Someone please explain to me why I am paying full price for 25% service. I just got assaulted by the security guard at the hotel for asking him to call 911. I am filing a police report in the morning because i am a guest and he physically assaulted me pushing me out the front door because i asked him to call 911. Beautiful downtown Poughkeepsie, NY. ha ha. Ok, so when was this motel built? It is 2021 and this motel needs 100% upgrade. From the parking to the food. I was told at one time this was a nice motel. Really? Probably in the beginning when everything was all shiny and new and people had a purpose to be in Poughkeepsie. It's sad to see that whoever owns this motel, really can't see how it's being run. There could be potential given some serious upgrades to everything from food, times of operation and staff. Vivian had everything ready. Very swift check in. No waiting time. The hotel was very courteous and provided me with 2 vouchers which I later redeemed for 2 adult beverages at the bar/lounge. In addition, I also received 2 breakfast vouchers. The next morning, I walked down to the restaurant expecting to see bagels, fruits and pre-packed cereal bowls. However, I was stunned when I saw the menu. The breakfast choices were great. I had a diner style breakfast which was very good. In all, I must have easily saved over $30 with the vouchers. I have to be honest, I am giving this hotel an extra star based on what you just read. The hotel is clean but a little dated. I stayed in room 815. The room was equipped with a 32' flat screen t.v, double queen sized beds, a microwave and a small refridgerator. The chairs and tables were ok. Nothing fancy. The bathroom was clean and the toiletries were not chintzy. My only complaint about this hotel are the bed & pillows. The bed was very firm (if you need to sleep on a firm mattress this will probably not bother you). The pillows were way too firm. Ultimately, I had to toss the pillows to the side and sleep without them. During my stay here, I took a night walk (about half-a-mile) to a bar called Mahoney's. The walk was very lonely and it felt like I was walking through a ghost town. There was a winter storm watch in effect. Therefore, Mahoney's was just ok. All in all, I would stay at this hotel again if I am in the area.. No major complaints here. - HONORABLE MENTION : a) JUSTIN (person working the breakfast hours at the restaurant) was absolutely magnificent. Very attentive and professional. I would hire this guy in a minute if I were a restaurant owner. b) JOANA (reception desk area) was very helpful and answered all of my questions without attitude. There two days ago for a wedding reception at the Grandview. A lot to like about the place, the breakfast the next day in this huge room was great (7am-10am) The service and staff will take care of things promptly if needed. The only two things I was disappointed in was putting luggage on the cart from the room then taking it to the garage (separate elevator area) then return the cart to the lobby and go BACK to the garage to get the car. Very inconvenient. Garage spot on 3rd floor in another elevator bank area. My other gripe was the hair dryer (room 828) in the room did not work at all. Tried all the usual things. Reported it when we left the hotel. Not many outlets in the room to charge phones. Used the bathroom outlet. The views from that room is great. Working the thermostat can be challenging, no directions. Someone came in two minutes to show how it worked. And if unable to find a luggage cart, some guests leave it in the garage to not be inconvenienced. My only request to all guests is, please return the luggage cart to the lobby. Not many around. The trolley service to the Grandview is a mile and a nice service till 1:45am. That was a major plus! The "walk over the Hudson bridge" is less than a 1/2 mile away. A free parking lot is available there. No need to park in the $5 lot for 4 hours. Take advantage of the breathtaking views over the Hudson 200 ft. up. Can walk however much you want and return. Enjoy your stay. There are stands (water-ices-souvenirs) up there and ports-sans. If walking, There is an elevator to the bridge just past the Children's museum near the water. read more

Incredibly overpriced, and I've gotten better service from the staff at a Motel 6... for instance, the ice machine on our floor was broken; when we called down to the front desk to ask for some ice, their suggestion is that we go floor-to-floor to find one that is working. Seriously? The room is clean and nice, though a bit dated, more like what I would expect from a mid-range Holiday Inn than a place purporting to be a high-end hotel. FYI, there is no gym or pool on location, but they do offer free use of one of the local gyms/pools which is a few blocks away (shuttle available). read more

Never again. I remember when this hotel was built in the 1980s as the Wyndham. At the time, it was pretty upscale for Poughkeepsie. Nowadays, it's tired, run down and not worth the money. We stayed here one recent weekend night during a quick trip to visit the area. Our room for one night cost more than $210 after taxes (2 double beds). Though the room itself was clean, it's clearly not up to the modern standards you'd find at a Hilton or Marriott. The TV was an old tube clunker, not a flat-screen. The bathtub/shower appeared to be an original 1980s molded plastic type rather than tile. On the floor of the bathroom I could see worn areas of tile and molding. Same thing in the main room. The windows were filthy, not that the view of downtown Poughkeepsie is anything to gaze on anyway. Speaking of which, downtown Poughkeepsie isn't exactly restful at night, and neither was the hotel. Some idiot on the floor got into a screaming match with someone else, and we had to call the desk, which apparently called security on them. And what is with the Medusa-like glass light fixtures in the halls downstairs? The only redeeming aspect of our stay was the buffet breakfast included with the room, particularly the two cool dudes making omelets. Otherwise, this is a memory best forgotten. read more

The grand hotel ain't so grand. The hotel itself is fine. But the service is painfully terrible. The staff is incredibly rude! We were there for a wedding along with basically EVERY SINGLE PERSON AT THE HOTEL so I know almost all their business that weekend was our party . At check in staff had given the grooms brother attitude because his mother had paid for the room and proceeded to tell him he's a "grown man who should afford his own room." They had last call at the bar at 930 and YELLED at everyone to go back to their rooms. We asked if we could just stay in the area, we did not need them to serve and they continued to yell. The following night when we all returned to the hotel from the wedding at The Grand View the bar was roped off with "sorry we are closed" while people were still on the other side enjoying the area. The same doofy blonde boy that yelled at us the night before was standing there watching to make sure we didn't go to the bar. There was no hot water in the bridal suite so the bride had to shower in someone else's room. The ice makers on the floor do not work. Basically the place is a mess and the LEAST they could do is be pleasant. I was mind blown by the way the staff treated guests that spent WAY TOO MUCH MONEY to stay in Poughkeepsie. We were on the road and it's name made it appear as a nice place. We try to pull but empty hotel vans blocked the driveway. The hallway leading to the room had room service trays from breakfast on the floor outside several room. Once we got into the room it was like going back to the 70s and not in a good way They offer breakfast but it is all process food with a disinterested staff. They did not even have knifes to spread jelly. The botten line is a Thursday and Friday stay cost $560. When we left we went to a diner for breakfast. read more

It's funny, my experience here was the exact opposite of the other two reviewers. I had excellent service for the 2 days I was at the hotel, and everyone was extrememly nice. Servers, desk staff, and even the late night crew were exceptional. I had several occasions to work with staff, including the complimentary breakfast (which was excellent), cab requests, room service, and reccomendations on local businesses. The ambiance was pretty swanky, with a cool lobby and nice function rooms. The function food and the aforementioned breakfast were extremely good. A breakfast can be judged by the coffee and the waitstaff... both were perfect. Esteban and Stefan were great! My only knocks were the room... the shower suffered a lack of hot water on morning two, and the bed was not the coziest king-size I've been in. Aside from that, things were great. I'm not familiar with other hotels in this area but I'd imagine one might do better for the price. The staff was very very nice but aside from that, not the most convenient in terms of amenities or comfort. The restaurant as well as room service stops breakfast very early, not convenient if you've been traveling and have had a late morning but also want to relax and not venture outside. Also - not the cleanest. We noticed multiple room service trays on our floor outside the doors that stayed all day long without being picked up. Then we ordered food around 11am and the tray was literally still outside our door when we checked out the next day. Gross. Further, the room was not serviced when we left for the day even though we did not leave a "do not disturb" sign. read more

Very nice hotel. Customer service was great. Rooms were nice. Normal hotel layout. Pros: *Free Breakfast. Mostly Buffet style. One day they did a "sit down" breakfast where you order and have a server. *Staff was very polite and would make small conversation with you. *They don't have an "in-house" workout center. So instead, they will shuttle you to a FULL gym where you can workout everyday with a guest pass. The shuttle ride is only about 5-6 minutes. Just down the street. Cons: *Lack out outlets in the room. I had to use the bathroom outlet to charge my phone. Coworker said found an extension cord to use. Apparently there were outlets installed alongside the desk that I was unaware of. * If you are on-the-go for breakfast, and would like it to go, sometimes they will charge you $3 for a to-go box. Hotel seems decent actually probably one of the nicer hotels for Poughkeepsie. There's a hallway that stinks really bad as you head down to the parking garage. Room is clean and nice. Heat/cooling has been temperamental in my opinion but it could be operator error. I'm guessing if you hit increase in heat it should heat up though. Overall it's a good hotel, I'd stay again. Decently short walk to the train station if you don't have a lot of luggage. read more

Stayed one night after going to see LILIAC at The Chance Theater. Nice room, bed was big and comfy. Towels were nice and fluffy. Only real issue was they were replacing the carpets in the floor above us and started at 7:15 in the morning, so much for sleeping in but they did give us a bit off our room rate for this. The employees at the Poughkeepsi Grand Hotel do not understand that they are in the hospitality business. My daughters wedding took place this weekend at a nearby venue and. 29 rooms were reserved at The Grand for guests. Checking in was a horror, the employees had no idea what the checking in procedure was; they were rude and as the mother of the Bride I received 4 phone calls from Guests not being able to check in. I was told that the bar and lounge area would be open until midnight - after getting back from the venue and having a night cap with my guests, I was told at 11:15 that it was "last call " and we needed to leave the area..When I explained to the manager what I was told prior to booking ... he agreed to keep it open, but then my guests and I were treated horribly by the bartender and the "security " person...do not stay at this hotel...I am sure you can find better in Poughkeepsie! read more

Went here for a wedding last weekend, which was fine....but I'm giving it 1 star because apparently in October they cut off the air conditioning to the hotel rooms. After a night of drinking and dancing we came back to a room that was nearly 80 degrees. I called the front desk to find out, nope no air, the only air we get is from the fan blowing around hot air and the itty bitty opening of the window. So not only was it hot, but the room was ridiculously loud from the window being open. Of course the hallway was freezing from the air being on. Logically, if you need the air conditioning running in the hall- why wouldn't you have it working in the guest rooms? read more
