I have been coming here for years, but I'm really disappointed with the new "social club" aspect starting at 6pm. Apparently you are no longer allowed to have devices after 6pm? I come to pour choice to have a nice spot to do my homework/work and have been for almost 10 years now. People come to the Pour choice to get work done and enjoy a brew and maybe a meal. If the WHOLE restaurant bans you from using YOUR device anywhere both on the top and bottom floor, what happens to those of us who utilize the nice environment to work in? This is honestly ridiculous and I guarantee you will lose business this way. Looks like I'll have to take my business and my unfinished work elsewhere that doesn't have such ridiculous rules. They now kick you out at 6 pm Thursday-Saturday if you're on a screen :( this was my favorite place to come in the evenings to do schoolwork, with working full-time it was so nice to come here and get loads of work done on evenings I had off. Really sad there isn't anywhere in the area that stays open this late and allows people to get work done on the computer, and that Pour Choice now implementing this! Thought they'd be more accommodating to students but I guess not. Also, considering I paid for my two beverages and had ordered my 2nd one approx. 15 minutes before being asked to leave was a frustrating aspect. The Pour Choice was the greatest choice I made on my trip to Auburn! My friends and I visited Auburn State recreation area and after our hike wanted some coffee. The shop was relatively close by and I'm so glad we went because it was some of the best coffee I've ever had. I've got a dirty chai iced and It was amazing! Their chai is made special by a local company and it was different than any other chai I had before, and was unique! I also loved the decor and ambiance of the shop. The inside was very packed when I visited, so I was unable to get too many photos but I assure you that it was beautiful. Another plus was the baristas positive attitude, they were more than willing to help me select a beverage and navigate the menu. When in Auburn, take a moment to stop here for coffee! read more

Thats because while I waited for the bathroom, I saw no less than probably 70 flies everywhere, in the bathroom, in the hallway, in the food prep area, literally even sitting on the food! This is a really cute little spot. It has a laid back and kind of hipster vibe with seating both on the main floor and upstairs. The parking can be a little hard but it's downtown Auburn. It is doable. I went with my mom for a little lunch and some tea. The tea was great and there are some good options. I can't say anything about the coffee since I didn't have any but I do want to try it. I was bummed because when we got there, they were out of most of their food. I really wanted the avocado toast but decided to get a seasonal salad. I wasn't exactly happy with it. It had butter leaf lettuce that came in the full pieces, so you would need a knife to cut it up and it had a weird and maybe non-rinsed taste. When we were about to leave I looked at another table and someone had avocado toast lol so I guess I happened to come when they were out of some of the ingredients but it looked good. Coffee bar staff were nice and knowledgeable. You wait there for your drink and they bring you your food. read more

Amazing coffee, food, customer service, and ambience. The line was out the door, and on the stairs! That's how you know a place is good. The wait was definitely long, so don't come here unless you have a lot of time. Add the waiting for food on top of that, which took about 25 minutes. They're busy so that's what happens. There was plenty of seating to accommodate all the customers. We sat outside on the third floor which overlooked downtown Auburn. The second floor had beautiful outdoor seating too! My boyfriend enjoyed his quad shot vanilla latte, as well as I with my lavender latte. It was absolutely perfect. We ordered one Sweet Pear-fection which has honey ricotta, sliced pears, with wine drizzle, and it's served open faced on challah bread. Seriously so good, with the perfect amount of ricotta. The grilled cheese was also delicious but the only complaint I have is I wish they put a little more cheese on there, but it was still so good especially paired with the herb butter. I traveled home to visit family and friends so I called ahead to make sure the cafe/bar was open with seating for a meet up with my friend and I was relieved to hear it was and did! My friend and I ordered with a polite and fully masked staff at the counter, walked around and were enamored by the style in the Cafe. We couldn't help ourselves but to ask to take photos during the slow hours. So when we got our drinks, we got permission from the amazing gal who was so pleasant on the phone the night before, waited for the perfect natural light and got some adorable photos to share for the cafe and bring it business! The worst experience I've ever had at a coffee shop. The baristas are incredibly rude, the coffee is awful, and the lines are unbearable. It's clear that this place only survives because of its location on the way from Tahoe to the valley. With such an attitude towards customers, I honestly hope they close soon. I've loved the pour choice ever since it opened several years ago, but it has been less and less welcoming the last few times I've been there. We went there for breakfast on a Saturday morning, it was crowded but we were able to find a spot to sit. Coffee here was absolutely delicious, breakfast on the other hand not so much. There was 3 of us and we all ordered avocado toasts, with an added egg (+$2.00). Our food came about 40 minutes later, only 2 avo toasts had an egg on them, only 2 utensils were brought out. It was over salted , over seasoned and not an avocado toast I used to always enjoy. It's also very dirty inside, crumbs and appliances everywhere. Not too mention, a whole bunch of items on display for purchase add into the whole mess. I'd say it's a great place to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee but don't come here for breakfast or to get food for that matter. read more

Found this place because a friend told me that I HAD to check it out when I visited Auburn. It's a gem. It was packed when I got here, but the line moved pretty quickly. Good sign. The guy working the counter was incredibly nice and made me feel like a genuine guest. Great sign. Being from Kona, I judge a coffee place based on their regular brew. What I was served had just the right amount of balance of coffee berry and acid. It did not taste over-roasted at all. Another great sign. We also ordered the avocado toast with bacon and the New York toast (lox and cream cheese). Absolutely delicious. The flavors were on point and the bread was bakery perfection. This place is a solid winner. I would make The Pour Choice part of my regular routine if I lived nearby. read more

I have gone to The Poor Choice a handful of times and found it very trendy, nice on the inside as well as outside, but cramped due to the historic building they reside in. However, it is very expensive for a coffee place. Of course, one could argue The Poor Choice could argue that their coffee is handcrafted, resulting in a higher price, but the coffee is just okay. If you're expecting starbucks or dutch brothers, you're not gonna like it. The food itself at the restaurant is quite tasty but again very pricey. The staff at the counter that serves you are kind and knowledgeable in their products. The poor choice is a great place to take visiting family friends or newcomers to the area. Overall, if you're looking for a nice place to take a visiting friend or family, it's a nice place to go. Well for as small place as this, they do have good business because The Pour Choice is always packed. I think that they have trouble with the parking because you have to find one on the street and let me tell you that the street is pretty tight. One time we got invited here all the way from Sacramento. Imagine, People go there all the way from Sacramento it's that good. So when we arrived in Auburn, I was pretty surprised how active this little town was. We barely found a parking lot. When we entered this place, it was pretty packed so we had to find a place to sit outside. I like that they have those big gas warmers. it was warm and cozy. They serve coffee drinks with nice art on it. Note, they bring only food to your table, coffee however you will have to pick it up yourself. Well, I had a great time with my family.
