I have to say that I am an eyebrow feign. The first time I took a stab at doing my own eyebrows I was 13. Yeah, there is no photo evidence of that because I completely screwed them up (think hooks for eyebrows). So ever since then, I don't touch my eyebrows. I've always paid to get them wax/threaded/tweezed. It's always been a struggle finding someone who can handle my full eyebrows without leaving me bald or giving me a weird shape. About five years ago I found someone local who was able to work with my full brows. She had a one-style-fits-all approach for brows that happened to work for my brows. But then I started noticing that depending on her mood, she would take too much hair off or overarch my eyebrows. Then our schedules were hard for me to schedule appointments. So eight months ago I was on the search for another brow artist. I found one through Yelp in NYC close to my job and stuck with her for 5 months hoping that she would be able to one day get the shape right. After 5 months of money down the drain, I searched for another local brow artist on Yelp and found Cynthia. I was praying to the brow gods to help me out. After months of inconsistent eyebrows and not feeling my best (I already mentioned I'm an eyebrow feign), in one session I felt like a brand new woman. I'm so happy I found Cynthia and a bonus is she's super close to my house. I've never written a review for either of my past two eyebrow ladies because I felt that although I liked my brows, something wasn't right about them. They were either too arched or too thin. Natalie did absolutely amazing! I was 10-15 minutes late after she kindly accommodated my schedule and she was still so kind to me and still did an amazing job so for that alone I am so grateful!!! Now let's talk about her work... she did an amazing job! She started without asking me what I wanted but when I asked her what she was doing she did exactly what I wanted anyways AND it was beautiful! This is probably the first time my eyes didn't burn and the quickest full set I ever got! She also reshaped and tinted my eyebrows and that too was amazing. I told her how the last place botched them and she showed me exactly what she would do so that calmed my nerves. THE POWDER ROOM IS AWESOME. My wife has gotten spoiled in the city going to HIGH End Salons with HIGH END Prices. However since we moved further from the city, (out of Hoboken) she has tried a bunch of places around Short Hills, and basically all over Essex and Morris Counties but she wasnt complacent. Each time, she ultimately thought that if she did not continue to search for a place, that she was basically settling. She continued her search because she was not comfortable with mediocrity. Every husband knows (or should know), that when the wife isnt happy, well lets put it this way; neither is the husband... This so-called expedition seemed to last forever (seemingly) until she found The Powder Room and Cynthia, LOL. Thank God! I think I am seriously as happy as she is!!! I went in for a waterfall braid on new year's eve and specified that was what I wanted when I made the appointment. The girl that did my hair clearly had no idea how to do it and redid the braid a number of times. I wasn't shown what it looked like before leaving which I thought was odd and by the time I got home the braid was sliding out and obviously poorly done. I called the salon and they said they couldn't refund me unless I went back. Everybody was nice but I feel somebody should have stepped in and fixed my hair before I left for my black tie event looking like a 5 year old did my hair. I will not go back. read more

I've recently been trying to find a good place for Brazilian waxing and found this little gem on Groupon. I needed to find a place that used wax that didn't irritate my skin. I'm glad to say that this salon hit all the points in my checklist. Jenna usually does the Brazilian and she's pretty good and quick enough with the process. THE POWDER ROOM SAVED THE DAY FOR ME. I needed an EMERGENCY appointment for eyelashes the day before my brother's wedding because another location was completely unprofessional and asked me to go in a day after the event. When I called I spoke to Justin, I explained to him what happened and how I really needed help. He did tell me that due to the holiday weekend they would be closing at 1PM BUT that he could ask one of the girls if they were willing to stay. To be honest, I figured I would get a callback with a "sorry, etc etc" a minutes later, Justin called me and said that one of the girls was willing to stay. I told him I was available at any time and so he scheduled me for the next day (Saturday and the day before my brother's wedding) at 1PM. It was my first time getting lashes and I was nervous. When I arrived Justin was super sweet and very professional. I was offered water or champagne; super cute! I stepped into the...cleanest bathroom over! Decoration an A++! Maria worked on my lashes. She is AMAZING, super sweet, funny, and made me feel comfortable. She asked me how I wanted them and explained how the process was and also what might happened after. (In terms of a few falling out, etc) I felt like I left knowing what I got done, and even though a few have fallen out, I don't feel the need to feel like Maria wasn't transparent/honest because she definitely was. Also, I got amazing complements. My aunts who got their lashes done at other locations loved that mine looked VERY natural. I went here to get eye brow tinting and shaping .. I was actually excited to hear that they used the same product from a mall I frequent in Atlanta ( candy brow bar ) at that moment all my reservations went away. while getting my brows done & making conversation with the employee who was handling me .. she asked how long my tint usually last when done at candy bar & I told her 2-3 weeks depending on how much make I use .. so once leaving I was very satisfied with my brows . . I did not shower or touch my face with any make up product for the remainder of the day ... the next day around noon I bathe & made sure I was extra careful with my brows .. still no makeup .. the next morning I woke up & the brow tint was completely gone from my left brow !! when I called the powder room & explained what happened the rep on the phone sounded as if she didn't believe me but offered to have me come in & have them touched up .. unfortunately the next available appointment wasn't until 3 days later ... a day before my appt they called to confirm & by this time you couldn't even noticed I had any tinting done on either brow AT ALL ! so I declined my appt ! to be honest I was annoyed to the max. I had a appt scheduled for 3 weeks later which I made on my first visit there & decided to cancel that as well .. Just doesn't make sense to me to pay 50 bucks for invisible work .. I had one of my worst blowouts ever and it was at the Powder Room. First, let me say that the young junior stylist was very nice. She had such limited experience she could not style or even really thoroughly dry my hair. I had to tell her that my roots were still damp. Then they charged me $40 which would be okay if I had a good blowout. They should not be charging $40 for a very junior stylist with a lot of learning. I would not recommend getting eye brow done by at the powder room, they girls are not probably trained, they use a stencil for guidance. All the girls working there have the same eye brows too thin and the arches are not in line where they should be. Little on the rude side also. paid 30$ and cant wait for my eyebrows to grow in. They have no clue about customer service. The male owner said many inappropriate things and said you don't need leave "I'll throw you out". And came close to physically touching me. I walked in for a menu and asked about an appt and was told 15 minutes. So I took a walk. Got back and told 15 more minutes. So I waited. Then another 15 passed so I asked said soon. I was frustrated and i guess they don't realize customers waiting for almost an hour will be frustrated.
