Finally made it to this establishment. I've tried a couple of times and had been disappointed on Monday at least twice - they're closed on Mondays. Anyway, as much as I wanted to get the fish special of the day, I knew I had to start with a burger since that is what the hype I have always heard about. I had the DATIL BURGER which is a 1/2 pound burger stuffed with a Datil pepper & scallion cream cheese and grilled. The flavors were there but I thought the burger could have been cooked a little more - asked for medium - and I would've liked to have had a little more sear. Still a winner. I had also heard about the pickles so we started with the fried pickles and they were excellent. They were a little sweeter than a dill and I'm thinking they may actually be homemade. I was in the mood for a burger and decided to explore Yelp to find someplace new to try. I found The Press and decided it might be worth the drive in that direction. When I saw "The Conquistador" on the menu I thought "why not, they had me at Datil Pepper". Wow was that a tall burger, and that was before adding the garden to it. It was a wonderful taste combination and I must say that I conquered it. It paired well with the Bell's Brewery Oberon Wheat Ale (like I have any idea about pairing a beverage with anything). And just when I thought I was done...my waitress Nykki mentioned "White Chocolate Bread Pudding" for desert. Who would I be for walking away from that? OH MY!!! I was going to stop at Culver's on the way home and I'm so glad I chose to try this. I wanted to say it was like Flan had a delicious older sister but it's more complicated than that. We just finished an early Saturday lunch at The Press. My burger was awesome, juicy and delicious. The owner was very helpful [I'm from the Midwest], so we had a beff discussion ahead of time. We have been to The Press twice this month. Both times have been fantastic! As an old restaurant guy, I see things most people may not. I have been for lunch and dinner and have seen both crews. Guys in the day, and Ladies in the evening. Both teams work like well oiled machine! With the owner making homemade Hamburger Buns, it's tough for me to order anything else. Seemed like a great place to check out. Not touristy, but looked like the local place to eat. The place was busy, small, had to wait for a table. No problem. Grabbed a local brew and chilled outside. The gossip from those outside was that it was worth the wait. We ordered calamari for an app, it was good, average, not amazing. I ordered their "Conquistador" burger. Apparently it was voted the best burger for a few years. It should be mentioned that I omitted the stuffed pepper because I don't like cream cheese. The burger could have used more cheese and less onion straws. Still delicious but not quite the "best burger" I would think a better burger existed in St. Augustine. My gf and I went to the Press for dinner last night for the second time. I got the conquistador burger and she got the cowboy burger! The conquistador burger was one of the BEST burgers I've ever had! It comes with bacon, chorizo, their datil burger (stuffed with scallion cream cheese), crispy onions, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. This is their award winning burger and it's easy to see why. They cook the burgers to your preference and they do a wonderful job with getting the perfect steak to your preference. (Mine is medium and my gfs was medium rare). Also the dessert is some of the MOST DELICIOUS apple crisps I've ever had. You can tell that the brown sugar ice cream is home made and I could not EVER get enough. The whole dessert is just too good to pass up and anytime we go we will gladly get the apple crisp every time! Also they have been consistent both the times we have gone there! I'm a local resident and pass by The Press most days. I've heard good things about this local restaurant. Granted, we ordered take out -- two burgers, with a side of fries and one order of coleslaw. The told us it would take 25 minutes. We arrived at the appointed time and drove 1 1/2 minutes to home. We found the burgers cooked as we liked it but the burger fries were soggy and cold. The separate container of coleslaw leaked all over the containers in the bag. In the future, if we decide to return we will eat in. But that will be a long time from now. read more

Food is excellent. The issue I have is this year we received a $25 gift card to The Press (actually has The Press and it's address on it) and have tried to use it. We keep getting turned down because it is an "old" gift card that was from the previous owners??!! Even suggesting to go to the previous owners new restaurant for them to honor it!!??? Right off of SR 16 you will find this gem nestled at the end of a strip mall. The Press as the name implies is a burger joint but their menu doesn't stop there! Tacos, fish sandwiches, and flatbreads all compliment a decent beer and wine selection! The Press is a hit with the locals and is always busy. It is a bit small- 8 tables with about 10 bar seats but it is important to note that they do a strong take away business as well. It is also important to mention that in addition to making their own buns( which I can't eat since we are going gluten free) that they make a kickass homemade onion soup. Guys, I don't like onion soup- in fact I usually avoid it but - since my wife ordered it , I had to try it. It was fantastic- hot delicious , not super salty and finished expertly with a slice of Swiss. We got the Pork skewers that had an amazing Asian sesame glazE to them that were a hit. It was a little weird though because they played it on a huge long plate but the dish only took up a quarter of the space on the plate- whatever right?!? I killed that shiz! I had a bun less bacon cheeseburger with fried pickles that was excellently executed. My wife and daughter checked out the bread pudding and I managed to wrestle a small taste..... The freakin' bread pudding alone is worth the trip. What a fantastic end to an excellent meal. Oh- and shouts out to Vanessa - souper server! Thanks for making the night special! This place is too small for its reputation. Went for lunch on a Saturday and had to wait for a little to be seated. It has the bar area seating on the left and some tables on the right. Menu is small with a few appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and salads. The burger is awesome and too big to even bite. The meat has a spicy taste to it similar to cumin and it's pleasantly surprising. I'm going to do something I rarely do. That is to relay my bad experience yesterday at one of my former favorite places to eat. They served my order so overdone, I probably won't find time to return any time soon and certanly won't allow ambush of anyone else with a multi-star review. I was unmistakably clear about my order being cooked only to the point that left it "still moving". My exact words. I had previously ordered it to be something a vet could bring back. And considering the quality of meat they then used on those numerous occasions, boom, they hit it right on the head, almost steak tartar, as preferred. And wait staff said she recognized us from prior visits. It was either the empty tea glass or the char burger I had been pushing around on my plate, but she finally returned table side to inquire if everything was all right. One look and she immediately admitted way overdone and offered to have the chef try again. My dining partner and I were on a tight schedule and didn't have time. I declined and ate a little more but did not finish as it seemed to be even more done in the center. To add insult to injury, the $40.00 plus tab, for two overdone burgers, two teas and tip had been adjusted by $5.00. I have hosted and recommended this place to many diners. I hope they made the most out of my patronage. It took a serious hit with one damn burned $19.00 hamburger and tea, and the quality of beef is hard to appreciate when burned to the point mine was.
