    Fennel Sausage Pie was nice.
    Craig W.

The appetizer come BEFORE the entrees, right? I forgive just about everything that goes awry at restaurants. In my experience, almost every worker at every restaurant tries really hard. Customers should be much more forgiving to workers who try to please them and who also stand on their feet all day long. My biggest restaurant pet peeve at restaurants is the entree coming BEFORE the appetizer or the entree being served just a second or two after the appetizer is served. The appetizer is supposed to "whet" the appetite, right? (Of course, that is kind of a joke. We don't need to eat a bunch of potato skins to feel hungrier for the entree. Stay with me here.) Honestly, I liked almost everything about this place. The meatball appetizer was a little pricey but delicious. The two pizzas we got--the Fennel Sausage (which was fine) and especially the fantastic CLSICS (birria)--were great. They use a coal oven here and you can watch the guy slinging the fresh pizzas left and right. The Mock the Decks mocktail was refreshing but it seemed to be missing the grenadine and it was too pricey for what it was ($13, I believe). The decor is interesting. It is sort of a cross between a pirate ship and an old western saloon. The bar is lovely. The patio is quite the happening scene. Interestingly, they have a wine shop and wine bar next door which is worth checking out. Our server was pleasant enough but we only saw him three times: once when he took our order, once when I flagged him down for some extra water, and last when I flagged him down for our bill. He was pretty much absent the entire time. But hey, he seemed like a decent person and they were busy. And about that meatball appetizer: it hit the table and the pizzas came immediately afterward. That irked me. It happens more than it should at lots of restaurants. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about restaurants to know why it happens. But I can tell you this : it never happens at the very high end restaurants so someone figured it out. Don't get me wrong. This place is definitely fun and the food is high quality and delicious. It's kid friendly, too. I just wish our service was a bit better. We would absolutely give them another chance.

Another deformed chicken wing exactly one year later come on guys in the kitchen take a look at what you're putting on the plates

I've been coming to Privateer ever since the second year they opened. They are always known for a very delicious dining experience. They do have some very unique items on their menu that are very good. The staff is always Pleasant and helpful. As far as Ambience goes I've always enjoyed the atmosphere there. But an interesting story last year when I checked in at Privateer I noticed one of my wings was really warped and dilapidated. I did mention it to the waitress and I took a picture and actually posted it. The general manager was very congenial with his reply. But now almost 1 year later to the exact day I brought my granddaughter there for lunch. I ordered wings knowing that they would be not bad. But low and behold they served me the exact dilapidated wing a year later. I showed my granddaughter and she said ooh gross. I didn't bother to mention anything to the waitress I left most of the Wings at the table. I cannot say I will ever go back to Privateer. But a word of advice have your Chef look at what you put on your plate that's the presentation you're giving to the public. The wings were very dry and not really edible anyways. But then to have that one loan puppy looking so gross just put it over the top. I'm sorry Privateer I can't come back and I also can't recommend your restaurant.

Cozy casual spot that appeals to all age ranges. Saw lots of young families and retirement-aged folks, and everything in between. One side is a bustling restaurant with a bar and open kitchen. The other is a quieter, brighter wine bar and market. We came for happy hour and sampled a variety of items. Caesar salad was overly dressed, but otherwise good. Note to self: ask for dressing on the side next time. Fettuccine with meatballs tasted more like a kids meal not in a bad way, just very basic. Cajun wings were delicious. Pepperoni pizza was also pretty basic, but that's what you want from a pepperoni pizza. Overall, solid spot for a chill night.

Privateer is a cool local spot in a small store complex along Coast Highway. They have three distinct seating areas. The patio with picnic tables, all outside so pups welcome, and essentially a part of the parking lot. Great for the wonderful SoCal weather. The main room, which is loud, lively and very casual. The "back room" which has a bit more of a wine bar feel with wine bottles for pick-up it is more open and airy. The star of the menu is their coal fired pizza. They have so many options from curated selections to build your own. Our first time we each got a pie, the chemistry and I think the cheese pie. This more recent time we opted for the Chemistry again, but did it half without the veggies. We got the roasted chicken wings and the Caesar salad to start. The wings had a really nice crispness and crunch even with the buffalo sauce and I had wondered if they perhaps were fried wings before I reread they were roasted. The service was great. Very attentive and friendly. I need to plan to come for one of their comedy nights.

Privateer Coal Fire Pizza is one of those places you stumble into once and then keep coming back to because it never misses. I found this spot on a trip with an old friend, and from day one it's been consistently solid. The pizza is outstanding--perfectly cooked with that coal-fire flavor--but honestly, the entire menu delivers. The salads are fresh, the wings are on point, and no matter what you order, it feels like care was put into it. This is the kind of place where it's hard to go wrong. Hospitality here is top tier. Friendly, laid-back, and welcoming, with that relaxed Oceanside vibe that makes you want to hang out a little longer than planned. Heads up on parking--it's tight, and this place gets packed, so you may have to walk a bit. But trust me, it's worth it. The food more than makes up for the extra steps. A reliable favorite that continues to deliver every single time.

If you are in the mood for delicious coal firing pizza with fresh ingredients and delicious toppings, Privateer Coal Fire pizza is the perfect answer to satisfy your craving. Their menu includes Charcuterie, salad, tacos, vegan toast, chicken wings, roasted cauliflower, mussels, mahi mahi Taquitos, meatballs, soup, various types pizza pie, burgers, sandwiches and more I ordered ; -Margherita Pies 5/5 The toppings were light and flavorful tomato sauce, Fior di Latte, fresh basil, extra virgin olive oil. The crust was perfect. The mixture between rich, creamy and delicate Fior di Latte cheese and the tangy flavorful tomato sauce made this pizza very savory. - Mahi Mahi Taquitos 5/5 It was really delicious, it had cilantro, pico de gallo, shredded cheddar and lettuce. I was surprised when I read that they were selling cookies from the famous Rustic Bakery. It is located in Sonoma County. They serve handmade high quality goods. It was amazing. I ordered Rustic Bakery Chocolate Nib Cookies and Rustic Bakery Pecan Shortbread. They were soft, flavorful and perfectly delicious. It was very convenient to order cookies with pizza. What a fun meal! Privateer is such a great. I was impressed with the quality and the flavorful taste of their pizza. It is the best pizza I have had in a long time.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of pizza, but my husband is, so we decided to try a new place. We came across this spot and ended up loving it way more than expected we would definitely go back. I will say, it's located in a pretty busy area and the parking lot isn't very big, so you may have to find street parking, which can be a little inconvenient. That aside, the location itself is really nice and spacious with a great setup, and they also offer outdoor seating, which is a plus. Our waitress was also very friendly and pleasent. The menu has a good variety of options, we tried the CLSICS pizza which has birria and it was amazing, we also tried the parm fries (not the best). Even as someone who doesn't usually gravitate toward pizza, I was pleasantly surprised. Overall, a great experience and definitely worth checking out.

This is my second time ordering from them. Decided to give them another chance. Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza was not good. The crust in the center 1/3 of the pizza was saturated and mushy. This is due to their rushing adding toppings as most of the sausage was at the center of the pizza. The toppings are not spread evenly across the top of the pizza. Margherita Pie was a joke. The dough on the pizza was very dry and the basil on top was heavily wilted. Tasted terrible. The difference between what the menu shows and what I got was a shocking! I posted picks on my yelp page. Get it together guys. This is basic stuff! You are close to having a great pizza but your team screws it up every time.

Yo! Captain 619 here -- cruised into Privateer Coal Fire Pizza down in Oceanside and had a rad little sesh with their pies. The whole coal-fired idea sounded gnarly in the best way, and while I couldn't actually taste "coal," the crust had a cool, unique char and smoky vibe that set it apart from the usual spots. We tried a small cheese and tossed some pineapple on one for a Hawaiian twist -- tasty and fun, but next time I'm going big with a plain cheese to really see what their oven does. Vibes: chilled SoCal, good for a post-surf feed. Service was friendly, pizza came out solid. Score: 3.5/5 -- would definitely ride back for another round.

This place is my boyfriend's favorite pizza place. We got a basket of garlic parm fries that were good but a little pricey. We tried the new Fig and Hot Honey pizza. Also good, but it was a bit too sweet for our taste. Definitely coming back to try more!

Gluten-Free Cheese Pie with garlic roasted mushrooms
    KayAnna S.

My husband and I love that we can usually walk right in and be seated and served right away. They have been a local favorite for years and can get quite busy, so be prepared to wait. Their parking lot isn't too big, so you can always find street parking instead. Our last server was very welcoming, kind, and attentive throughout our dining experience. We quickly ordered the SurfRide pie and the GF Cheese Pie with garlic roasted mushrooms. My husband and I enjoyed both pizza pies, but the SurfRide definitely stood out. There was just so much flavor in each bite. Next time I will definitely order the SurfRide as gluten-free for myself instead. I still loved the custom cheese pie as the garlic roasted mushrooms were just delicious. I thought their gluten-free crust was honestly amazing as I could barely taste the difference between the regular crust and the gf one. The only visible difference is the gf crust is flatter (as expected though). Honestly anything on their menu is delicious, and you can't go wrong with any order. If the weather is nice, I highly suggest sitting outside as it is worth it!

Came here on a rainy day. The parking for this place is small, but the food is so delicious. They also had an all day happy hour when we came. The pizza was very yummy and service was also good.

My hubby and I have been eating to try this place every time we come to Oceanside and we finally did! The food was so delicious my only complaint would be I feel like my pizza needed more sauce. Strive was great and we really felt at home will definitely be back!

I ended up about three blocks away in a residential area on a busy Saturday night. The cozy atmosphere is warm and comfortable. The staff does a good job weaving among the six tables in the dining room and six on the patio. Conversations are tougher inside. This is a natural wine bar, so some classiciists might not like the styles. Little Victory has a jammed, two-sided wine list (red and white) in incredibly small type. Natural wines often look and taste distinct from conventional bottles. They are frequently unfiltered and unfined, leaving them slightly cloudy with sediment. Expect vibrant acidity and complex flavor profiles that lean toward the earthy, savory. Bottle variation is common. Off-flavors and aromes include mousiness, excess volatile acidity (vinegar notes), or Brettanomyces (wet cardboard). Our waitress was patient and let us taste five whites, which were too funky for most of us (not fruit-driven noses and palates like most California wines). I settled on the Austrian 2024 Wurzinger Grüner Veltliner Früg, $17 BTG. It was cloudy, with some lime, floral, and yeasty nose; tight acids; and a tart finish. We did enjoy a fruity, balanced 2021 Viticultor Goyo Garcia Viadero Joven de Viejas Viñas, Ribera del Duero ($72 bottle; $25 at retail); and a good Temecula red blend, 2023 Lost Ranch Winery Moonshadow (53% Nero d'Avola; 47% Syrah; $17 by the glass). For appetizers, the four of us shared the olives ($8), bread and butter plate ($9), cheese platter ($18), and beef tartare ($25). Other things we shared were the local catch, $33; roasted octopus, $31; and the peach and fennel salad, $22. The octopus drew the most raves. The catch was a bit dry. Service was friendly, very helpful and responsive to our questions about the wines and the different dishes on the menu. The food runners were timely in bringing out our different dishes. Little Victory should do well in this bustling foodie town.
