Our first trip to OR & of course we Yelped to find a good breakfast spot! This place is about 15 minutes from the University of Oregon. It is quaint and reminds me of eating in my grandma's kitchen. The menu is decent with lots of options. They upcharge for a lot of those options tho. Water already on the table, which is a plus! We ordered an omelette and biscuits and gravy. The food came out quickly considering they were pretty packed when we arrived. The waitress brought an extra plate without asking, also a plus! The omelette was good! The meat and peppers were great and the cheese was also sprinkled on top, another plus! The only negative on our dish were the home fries. They just didn't taste good. The MEGA BONUS PLUS was definitely the biscuits and gravy. Admittedly, I am a bit of a biscuits and gravy snob (I blame my mom ) so most of the time I am super disappointed. This time, however, I was happily surprised! The biscuits are light and fluffy, not dense and overcooked. The GRAVY was PERFECT! Not too salty, not too bland, awesome balance of sausage bits. Got here early for breakfast, knowing the wait can be looooong. But this morning it was just my husband and I and one other couple in the entire place (8:30am). I guess it meant the cooks were not quite awake yet either since it took some time to get our food. My husband had the stuffed French toast with cream cheese and homemade blueberry jam, with a side of bacon, this was 5 star delicious. However, my eggs Benedict was the worst I have had anywhere, and I have had them in a lot of places. One of the eggs was not done enough with the white still runny, the other was ok. The english muffin tasted "off" but the whole thing got probably a pint of creamy lemony congealed "Hollandaise" sauce poured over it. It was drowning in it. And it was NOT a good sauce either so it kind of ruined the whole dish. Despite having some excellent ham on it. So I scraped off the sauce as good as I could, and it literally took over half my plate. The place is cute. The coffee is ok, no decaf available. The service was slow but friendly. My original first impression of this restaurant was I felt it was a hidden gem that people needed to find out about. My last two visits have been subpar by comparison. Originally, I would've put them on par with McKenzie Cafe for ambiance, customer service, and food quality. Since the virus changed everything. . . .so did they. They lack in all aspects of a quality dining experience. The staff argues in front of customers, complains about going home and closing the doors, and the quality of food has gone down too. It feels more like a fast food restaurant atmosphere then a quality sit down restaurant now. My wife and I were very disappointed. I gave them a second chance and that experience was worse so I'll not be keeping them on my list of fine mom & pop pleasurable dining experience. Time to find another hidden gem. read more

The service is excellent. Friendly and warm, our server was a delight. Great ambiance too. My patty melt was hot and very much a good patty melt. The chili left a lot to be desired and tasted canned. If I could give zero stars for our experience today, I would. We have always loved this sweet little breakfast spot, and have visited many times over the years... unfortunately, under the new ownership this restaurant is floundering. We arrived for a quick breakfast at 9:45 am, and were told that there may be a 20 minute wait for breakfast (which was reasonable and fine). We sat for 55 minutes waiting for our food, and then when we went inside to check on the status the cook rudely informed us that we should have come in earlier to check with the kitchen (instead of asking the host what the ETA would be)... and then the same cook literally scooped up a handful of the scramble she was preparing WITH HER HAND AND PUT IT IN HER MOUTH, then returned to cooking!!!! Inappropriate, unsanitary, and quite frankly disgusting. In the age of COVID, with local businesses struggling to make it I highly recommend you give your business to anyone other than this. Our server was sweet, apologetic, working so hard to try to accommodate patrons while being completely unsupported and understaffed... truly hope she finds employment elsewhere in a better managed environment. All 4 of us have worked in the restaurant industry in the past and for many years... this experience was shocking and beyond frustrating. The Pump is an epic FAIL. read more

We stopped by here on a Saturday morning. We originally had gone to Addi's Diner, but because they had a wait list, I called Pump and they said there was no wait and to come on by! We were driving through the area and I wanted a fast bite to eat, so we headed over to Pump. This place's space is bigger than Addi's and we got seated right away. We ordered: - chicken fried steak - corned beef hash - single pancake - coffees Overall the food was delicious! We should've just stopped in here first. They have their own parking lot, but it was full so we parked on the street. Service was prompt, and our coffees were refilled multiple times. I enjoyed my corned beef while Cody cleaned his plate of the chicken fried steak. I would definitely comeback here for breakfast again! Prices were reasonable as well! read more

I feel really bad writing this because I think sometimes it can be just bad timing and I love to support smaller businesses. However, that being said the breakfast was very very bad maybe the worst I have ever had. The eggs Benedict was very salty, the hash browns couldn't be eaten because they tasted like a very dirty flat top as well as the toast. The biscuits and gravy were very dry and the gravy was not good. The service was great and they have really nice people working. While I was there for breakfast the staff that was working and some others who had recently walked out (suddenly quit) got together and had an intervention with the new owner accusing him of mismanagement, misdeeds, etc. etc. Not sure how it turned out as I left before they were done but the gist was "treat us right or we all walk." From what I heard, the staff had some legit complaints. The food and coffee were tasty and the staff were cool to me. They were just obviously distracted and upset by what was going on. I really wanted to love this place- super charming atmosphere. Walking in- we just stood in the main lobby- waiting for someone to great us- searching for a sign saying 'seat yourself.' One other person in lobby, waiting, no one showed. The kitchen chefs could see us but said nothing to us or telling staff they're guests in the lobby. Just odd. We finally walked around the corner to search for someone and was noticed. Not that big of a deal I suppose, but when your interested in a new place and hungry, it was a frustrating first impression. Very pricey for food that was not great. Food: The only star of the show was the Basted Benes- he thought the eggs were cooked perfectly and seasoning good. Vegetarian omelette (From The Ground Up!) report was just ok, liked the cheese, not much seasoning but the tabasco helped. Normal eggs and bacon w/hashbrowns was a let down for me. Eggs cooked well but cold, bacon so greasy I went through two napkins to blot it and still couldn't eat it all. Hashbrowns were crispy on the outside which was good but mashed potatoes on the inside. As if they had been frozen. Toast- how do you mess up toast? It was perhaps grilled-slight char on just one side. Soft... mushy on other side. The butter didnt even melt as it sat there. I dont splurge much on bacon time for many reasons but when I do I look forward to it, so this was definitely a bummer. Try it, you might like it- other dishes perhaps really good. Perfect Sunday morning breakfast spot. Driving through town we noticed most of the breakfast places were too busy so we swung in & it didn't deserve to be our last option! The country fried steak was delicious topped with their homemade white gravy... I only had 2 bites left I didn't want to leave any left but the plate was so filling! Recommend for everyone but especially families with kids that might love airplanes and nostalgic decor. read more

If you are looking for a good meal this is not the place. We walked into a very dirty restaurant. All of the tables had dirty dishes on them from the previous customers. Normally I would blame this on Covid staffing issues, but the waitress was walking around with blinders on. She did one thing at a time and only that one thing. I watched her walk back to the kitchen many times with empty hands. So we ate amounst the dirty dishes, not appetizing. The food took a while to get out of the kitchen and my pancakes were under cooked. Yuck! I didnt get my beverage until after I had finished my meal. And again long wait to get the food. Food is mediocre at best. Last visit there were only 3 other tables with people. No food for anyone. Took almost 20 minutes just to take our order. 1st table to get their food took one bite, got up, and walked out without paying. Idk what that was all about. Always horrible service with 1 or 2 waitresses. I have been here twice. It takes forever to get an order in and they do not come back to check in and see how the food is or anything. First things first, tables sticky; You would think with how we all went through 2 years of COVID that businesses would be more diligent on cleanliness but when your cell phone sticks to any place you set it on your table, that means they're not clean at all. We were in Eugene for a long weekend visiting our son that moved there a month ago. We said that each time we visit we will check out a new place (to us) to eat. We stayed at a hotel in Springfield and after two days of their breakfast they offered we decided we needed a really great breakfast! Pump Cafe did not disappoint! My daughter had the stuffed French toast, delicious. I snagged a bite and glad I did. I had their corn beef with hash browns and two over easy eggs. Their corn beef was so good. I was so happy that the portion was plenty that I had enough to take back to our hotel and put in our mini fridge. Guess what I had the next morning? Happy girl the next morning. Coffee was great, way better than the hotel coffee we had for previous two days. The restaurant inside was clean, decorative and had fun wall decor (old license plates) to check out. A breakfast gem!! This place is so homey, you immediately feel like you're having Sunday breakfast with the family. Sat down within 10 minutes of arriving, and was pleasantly surprised with how many tables there were inside. From the outside, the restaurant looks small, but it seats quite a lot. My group ordered chicken fried steak, and I had the potato pancakes. Chicken fried steak was delicious, might be the best CFS in the area. The potato pancakes were delicious as well! Only wished there was a little bit more salsa on the side or even some apple sauce. read more

I've always wanted to try Pump Cafe.. today was super disappointing. Arby's makes a better French dip and my side salad was nothing but some lettuce and 3 tiny tomatoes with watered down ranch. My husbands Killer Cob salad was a huge plate of lettuce with overcooked bacon and rubbery chicken. I've heard no ownership so maybe that's why. read more

The facility: I appreciate the "pump" theme and all the gas station memorabilia but DUSTING or wiping down the cooking grease that adheres to most everything in the café including the tables and chairs which are filthy is enough to ruin your appetite and experience there. The food: 45 minutes before we got our order. Which is not even acceptable if it was edible when it arrived . Explanation was a problem with an employee and we were given free coffee to make up for our wait. The coffee is only mediocre and not worth $3 a cup anyway. My scrambled eggs were floating in butter/oil. I had to prop my plate up on a spoon so the grease wouldn't overtake my home fries which were undercooked, I also prefer my eggs actually scrambled without big hunks of egg whites floating throughout. Sausages tasted like Jimmy Dean freezer sausage and the biscuit was dense and tough. My husband ordered a ham omelet that looked more like my scrambled eggs with a meager amount of ham chunks tossed in. His English muffin and hash browns he described as mediocre.
