This was not our first time here and I'm sure it won't be the last. The food is great - huge portions and delicious breakfast fare. The service this time around was severely lacking. We waited over 40 minutes for our meal. The place was busy, and they only had 2 servers taking care of inside and outside. They obviously got hit with more people than expected on a Saturday morning. The manager announced to the crowd that no more hash browns would be served as they were out, but they made substitutions and gave discounts on the bill. Overall, the slow service this time around isn't enough to keep us away - we will definitely be back. read more

Not the first time I've had bad service here but decided to give them another shot. I came in today with just my 3 year old and waited patiently without being acknowledged or greeted. A great local spot for breakfast or brunch. Seating is not that prevelant and I had to wait 45 minutes for a 2 person table, but the food was tasty, the service was prompt, and the prices were very reasonable. I had a traditional breakfast with bacon and sausage links, scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, and their homemade breakfast potatoes. It's sad that the new owner passed away last year, just a short time after taking over too. His dad has taken over but treats the staff with disrespect, and has little regard for the loyal patrons. Came here on a Saturday morning. As a group of 8 at 10am. Guess what they say is in 10 mints. All the staff was great, we never had a empty coffee cup on the table. The food came out and it was yummy I had chicken fried steak and poached eggs it was perfect. It's cute place real chill laid back place. Lots of fun old school dinner decor. This place is a gem!! Great menu, delicious food, fun atmosphere, and nice people - what's not to love? It felt like family dinner night because our group kept sharing food - everything was sooo good! The stuffed raspberry French Toast was seriously yummy - get the full size because everyone will want a bite. The food was fabulous. The best home made corn beef hash I ever had. Eggs cooked to perfection. Atmosphere wonderful. Service excellent. Why only a three star review? For the same reason others have critized this restraurant....complete lack of customer service when you come into the restaurant. We came in on a busy Saturday morning and the waitress at the cashier stand was having a personal conversation with a customer who was paying for his meal. Kid you not, we waited at least five minutes while we learned of her friend's addictions, hospital stays, etc. She made no eye contact with us, never greeted us, and when she was done, she quickly turned and walked away. We were stunned, and so was the couple who came in after us. We're were there at least an additional ten minutes before we're were spoken to. Will be be back? Probably. I just want the management to know this appalling lack of customer service. You really need a hostess during rush hours. read more

This is a great little diner serving exactly what you'd expect--nice service, timely coffee refills and a variety of breakfast/lunch options that are reasonably priced. It's a write your name on a list to be seated and pay at the counter on your way out type of set up. The entrance is kind of cramped with not much space for waiting, however, once you go around the counter to be seated, the restaurant is much bigger than it appears. I chose one of their omelets + hashbrowns + toast along with a mimosa, setting me back about $20 incl. tip. The portions here are great for me as they are not as colossal as some diners you go to. I could actually function the rest of my day after eating, without feeling that I needed a nap or simply couldn't move, lol. (Maybe I just need to learn self-control? ....nah) I've heard their cinnamon rolls are the bomb, but sadly they were sold out for the day by the time my group arrived, on a Saturday about 11:30am. Wow was this a disappointment! Last week we went and had breakfast and the food was very cold but tasted good. The waitress was nice but not great. Since the food tasted good we really thought maybe it was an off day and to try it one more time we would get good food, hot food and good service. Yet once again with only two tables filled in the whole restaurant it took her forever to bring our food and it was very cold but yet tasted good again. So this makes me sad because the flavor was delicious. So I really think they could be a great place I just don't want to give it a third try. read more

The service was pretty good and fast enough but the food was meh. The hotcakes had a rubbery texture and an oddly perfumed taste. I couldn't eat it. The hash browns were underdone white, not golden brown, except for the exterior few that were a bit on the burned side. Eggs were fine. read more

We were on the hunt for legit diner food (hash browns, ham steaks, options! And good vibes) and we found it at The Pump! We came at the busiest time of the week 11:15a on a Sunday and after only a few minutes of waiting they got us a table and served promptly. Coffee was fresh and refilled through our meal. The potato pancakes were crispy and topped with great eggs and salsa and the ham didn't mess around with good hash browns and eggs. Our server Chally was super friendly and nice to chat with. She ensured us there was no rush in eating and to take our time to enjoy. I appreciated that they seemed to be managing their seating (left a few tables open) so they could meet everyone's needs in a timely manner. We'll be back! read more

Where to start... One I was excited to try a new place. I am visiting from CA. We walk in and put our name on a list. There are 7 of us. About 15 minutes later a bunch of people come in, we thought we just missed the long wait. Guess again. Another family of 5 came in and were seated before us. Me being from out of town, I didn't want to seem snarky so we still wait as the kids are getting anxious. So 40 minutes goes by as many people get seated before us and I'm livid, hangry, and in great need of coffee. Mean while the hostess realized we hadn't been seated when they sat the other family 30 minutes before but no one is even checking on us or communicating or even apologizing for the wait. Another woman cane and asked if we were on the list and we time her what happened. We could see she was telling the other staff that we should have been seated before all the others. We get seated and it takes a bit for someone to get our drink orders. We finally do and I asked for an iced latte. Which might I add is easier then a hot one as you just pour milk and espresso together over ice. They bring the latte, hot. I even said it to the girl who handed it to me but she just walked away. I had to go to the counter and remind our waitress. As they made the cold milk and espresso drink I could see them mocking it while making it. "Oooh look at me making an iced latte" Really? You poured milk and espresso over ice. Wow. So now in to the food... I ordered the Belgian waffle. Nothing special. The batter had a baking soda taste. My brother got an omelette that was great. Someone else got the stuffed french toast, not my cup of tea but she liked it. Very artificial tasting raspberry sauce. And another the potato pancake, can't go wrong. Now do to the service I wouldn't come back. The food was ok/ really good depending on who you ask at the table. Service is the #1 first impression though. read more

I love this little place in Springfield. You don't often see "love" and "Springfield" in the same sentence, right? My wife was looking for a good breakfast and when she saw The Pump Cafe was famous for its Raspberry Stuffed French Toast that is where we went. We were quickly seated since there were only a couple empty tables. My wife did get the stuffed French toast and really liked them. I got one of standards, Chicken Fried Steak and eggs and found it very good. I was surprised to only get one slice of toast instead of the more common, two, but it was enough food. The coffee was really good, from a local roaster, and well worth it. Service was good, diner level, which is to be expected. We might be back, especially if my wife thinks about the stuffed French toast. read more

A sweet little restaurant in downtown Springfield. I loved the mishmash of tables and chairs. The inside decor is cute; it is full of early automotive Americana. There are old gas station signs, pumps and model airplanes hanging from the ceiling. The staff is attentive and friendly. The food took a while to arrive (especially given the shop was not busy when we ordered) but maybe they weee short staffed due to Covid? My husband had the hog omelette and I had a half order of blueberry cream cheese stuffed French toast. The French toast was amazing: the. I'm down off the McKenzie trail and stopped here for a bite before heading north on the five. Yep it's true it's a converted gas station. You can still see the old garage doors on there tracks in the overhead. They have an old gas pump, signs, photos and other gear. Service is great but it's 9:30 on a Monday. Walking around Main street in Springfield around 7:30am, the town was completely deserted except for the packed parking lot at the Pump Cafe. In fact, the people were parking on the street and in the neighboring Key bank's lot (which hadn't opened yet for the day) Inside is your standard old-time-nostalgic diner decor with tin signs, old license plates, and random knick-nacks scattered throughout- but definitely more shabby chic than country bumpkin. Both servers working the morning shift seemed very nice and attentive, and both had pleasant senses of humor. Even though the main dining room was filled and the adjoining one was getting there, service at all the tables (not just mine) was spot on. Their food seems very traditional and they clearly have some good seasoned people in the back. The salsa that came with my "potato pancakes" (2 McD's style hashbrown patties topped with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, scallions and diced tomatoes) was great- see photo. 5/2/2018 Updated Disappointment is the word for the food here today. The toast was floppy and the omelette smallish and nothing special.... I have noticed that depending on the cook - your food quality will definitely change. I had the special omelette with bacon and avocado. The first time I had it it was so good that the memory of it has kept me coming back. In truth, the last 2 times Ive been here the meal was lackluster. The dish went from a lot of Avocado to 4 tiny wedges, bacon on top to zero bacon on top. Large helpings to small. Whats the point in serving sour cream with an omelette if theres no seasoning in the eggs?? I sent my toast back because it was floppy and not toasted and it came back to me the same way. The server was clearly here for her pay check as she could give a rip about the customer experience - it was so obvious. There are 2 things that will impact my desire to return to a place: (1) food quality and (2) service. Based on today? This breakfast isn't anywhere even close to be worth $15 a plate. Tried on a drive by, and thought name/concept was fun. New server is SUPER NICE and has strong suggestions about what i might like based on her questions for me, very kool. Trying the Cody Burger, basically a super burger with egg, ham, bacon, and fries. Got coffee because today is coooold! Party: Just me in the corner. Mood: I'm cold, and not in the mood for anything particular. Coffee: smooth and hot, cup is thick ceramic and stays hot! Service: 1st 2x visits before meal arrives, Quiet but attentive and knowledgeable, asked refill coffee; Meal arrival, 5min, dropped off by mgr/owner. 2x more after delivery checks, brewing a fresh pot for me w/o asking for it. Immediately, cleared plate. Super-duper nice! Meal: Argh, the meat was super well done, not charred at all but very dry. Egg was over hard, so despite all the parts of an epic burger... fries were crispy and light. I'm definitely coming back for a breakfast. It's a cool place, execution may be off today. The Pump Cafe is a popular place in downtown Springfield & for good reason. They have a great selection of tasty meals for breakfast & lunch. The ambiance is pretty awesome. They have lots of old 50's style memorabilia throughout as well as numerous super cool old model planes hanging from the high ceiling. The atmosphere is one of people chatting, eating, & occasionally even large groups meet in the smaller dining space. The food has never disappointed & the service is quick & very friendly. Went here at 10 AM on a Saturday and was told they were done with breakfast for the day. The hostess told us to seat ourselves so we did and she came over and said "oh not this table" and made us move. Finally got seated and looked at the menu and it's about 90% breakfast - which they aren't serving. It's 10 AM so I clearly do not want a burger. We ask about the soup of the day and they said it was chili but someone placed a large order of chili the day before so they don't have it anymore. Not sure what an order the day before has to do with anything. Ended up just getting a side of fries because that's pretty much the last option. The fries are just frozen krinkle cut fries, so really not worth the money. (The person I was with got a BLT sandwich and again, said it was fine but no better than what you make at home). You can see the kitchen and the cooks from most of the tables pretty clearly, and none of them were wearing a mask during the mask mandate. The waitresses were at least, but I would prefer the people who are cooking the food to be following state protocols. What else are they not doing back there if they can't do something as simple as wearing a mask? The waitresses weren't rude but they weren't friendly by any means also. Overall the entire experience was very disappointing and I will not be going back there. read more

I'm sorry to say that the experience my wife and I had yesterday morning was disappointing. The waitress was friendly and accommodating and when I informed her that the biscuits and gravy tasted funny promptly remove them from our bill. The food- poor very disappointed in the quality. Hash browns were dry burnt and tasteless. The gravy tasted like it was made with sour milk. The chicken fried steak tasted like vegetable oil. The biscuits tasted off, not sure if it was the gravy or something else. I read a few reviews of this establishment prior to writing this and have a better understanding now of what changed since I was there last. I was really looking forward to our visit and talked it up to my wife. Sadly until the ownership or management changes, we will not be back. read more

I give it a 1 only because the servers were very sweet and the food wasn't horrible. Service was a a little slow but our server was really sweet (seemed very young and new!). When she was taking another order at a different table, the lady cooking in the kitchen was ringing the bell (food is ready bell). The girl was in the middle of taking an order and the bell was consistently ringing, so she (embarrassed) yelled to the kitchen, "I'll be right there!" The kitchen lady then came out of the kitchen and yelled "there is food in the window!!!!" In front of customers I've been a server for 7 years and have managed. I would NEVER tolerate that as a manager or as a server. That poor girl! I gave her a good tip and told her that everywhere is hiring and that she doesn't need to tolerate that rude behavior. Sadly, I think she's either the manager or owner. I will NOT ever return here due to that gross and rude behavior. That's toxic work behavior. read more

We didn't even get to try the food because of a crazy employee. The one star is for the kind waitress that gave me my cup of coffee on the house. She was so embarrassed by one of the cooks. This woman came out of the kitchen and yelled at everybody in the restaurant that it was time for lunch. It was 11:45 when we asked if we could still order breakfast. She stormed back into the kitchen and yelled " YES, BUT I DON'T WANT TO MAKE IT!" It was so pathetic that we thought that she was joking. Then we asked the waitress if the lady was serious and the waitress said that we still could order breakfast. The waitress then went to the kitchen and said that she was going to put in one more breakfast order and we heard the "crazy little loud lady" yell at her that she would have to cook if she takes the order... At this point we didn't want to eat there anymore. The poor waitress apologized as we got up and left. Let me know when you get rid of the woman and I will come back. Cute little place, uniquely decorated with great home-style plates and exceptional service. I had the special, which was a spin-off of their Famous Raspberry Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast. This one included fresh strawberries, banana slices, and a boysenberry sauce. But the star of the show was my server Tiffany. A cheerful smile and personality to match, she helped me with my selection and she was spot on. I had everything I needed through-out my meal, and my coffee cup was never empty. Incredible food. There blueberry pancakes are fresh. They put fresh blueberries in them and you can't take a bite without a blueberry in it. My mom had a biscuit delicious. She said it melted in your mouth. They make scones and cinnamon rolls daily and once they run out they are out. The table next to us got the French toast special and said it was awesome. The place is very cool. It is in an old gas station. Very cool antique items inside. The customer service was the best. I am so glad we found this place. read more
