Brisket was great. Burger Bun was enjoyed. Ambiance was right next to highway with little protection from vehicles zooming by, wind, but toasty warm from 3 patio heaters. I ordered the brisket, fries, Mac and cheese, and the clam chowder. That clam chowder was okay, nothing I would come back for though. The serving sizes are very large and you definitely get a bang for your buck. But the taste isn't the greatest and the brisket was a bit dry. Don't pass this little wonderful place up. The best food and service I've had in a very long time. You could have cut the ribs with a flimsy plastic fork they were so tender and juicy. Also had the black and cob and shrimp both wonderful as well. The potato salad was very unique and have a little bit of dill in it which was a wonderful surprise. And there are not words to describe the pecan pie I'm going back tomorrow to buy a whole one. The lady who helped us was very friendly and offered wonderful advice on what to order. On our once a year trip to Mendocino County and decided to try The Q. We ordered two different combo plates to try a variety and we were not disappointed. Some of the Best Barbecue we've ever had and we eat alot of BBQ. Beef ribs, chicken, shoulder and brisket. Very generous portions. Macaroni & cheese, onion rings, and chili. My daughter had her heart set on cornbread and they threw that in too. From now on The Q will be our go-to place when in town. read more

I too anxiously awaited the opening of the Q as my family loves BBQ. We stopped for lunch a few days after opening and were pleasantly surprised. My husband ordered a full slab of pork ribs and I had a half slab of beef ribs. Next time, I'm getting the pork! Not that they were bad, but I preferred his. We also tried the onion rings (not many in an order), beans (which we spiced up with the sauce from the table) and cornbread (meh). After hearing from others that the brisket was the way to go, a few days later we called in an order of 2lbs for pick up and devoured it at home. It was wonderful. I've tried the Q three times since they opened first week in business, I tried the wings. They were good, as were the Ribs. The other two times the meat was overdone, with little flavor.The wings were like jerky.Ribs too.The Coleslaw, which should be a no- brainer for someone who owns an upscale restaurant in Mendo.was just boring and watery. Consistency, Consistency, Consistency. I hope they get it together at the Q,because I love BBQ. This is one of those restaurants where what you happen to choose on the menu will dictate your dining experience. The BBQ pork ribs are delicious, I give it a 5 stars, probably some of best I've ever eaten! It's also really cheap and comes with great sides, Mac n cheese, coleslaw, all really tasty. However, They just started serving BBQ oysters, which is actually why we ate there. They were disgusting! BBQ oysters aren't suppose to be slimy! I think they should take the oysters off the menu or learn how to make them tasty. The fish and veggie skewers are good too, so the food's definitely worth a try. As a local, I really like this place. The BBQ is the best in town, slow-cooked and served with 4 kinds of BBQ sauce. Grilled oysters, great sides like cornbread, cole slaw, beans. If you order a full order it comes with 2 sides and you better be hungry, because the portions are huge. I usually end up taking some home. All the traditional BBQ meats available: pulled pork, brisket, chicken, etc. They also serve local salmon when in season. read more

I decided on BBQ for our wedding a couple of days ago here in Mendocino...I was trying to think of food options that everyone could enjoy...(except those pesky vegetarians) Pork was the obvious answer and The Q sounded like the obvious choice....Carlos, the manager was extremely helpful with advice on the quantities of food that I would need for the amount of guests we needed to cater to. We decided to go with pulled pork shoulder and both the St. Louis and Baby Back ribs...He was nice enough to have it delivered 20 minutes away for a fee too! The pork ribs fell off the bone, had a very large meat to bone ratio, were delivered fresh and hot and came with a choice of 3 different sauces; spicy, sweet and tangy (all of which were great) All of the meat had an incredible smokey flavor and was a huge hit with our guests... Sucks. Every time I go to this place they take forever and mess up your order. The last time I was literally the only person and ordered kielbasa sandwich to go. When I got home it was another sandwich with some kind of mystery meat on it. When I called to ask about a credit the moron on the phone had zero concept of how to handle me. He kept passing questions to his manager who seemed annoyed to have to deal with me. I asked if I could speak to the manager and he said no. He took my name and number so the manager could call me back and the little bastard never did. Sorry, I've given these guys so many passes but I'm over it. You suck read more

I'm not sure why this place only has 3.5 stars...we loved it! We rolled in early last Sunday evening, looking for a local place to have a casual dinner with our 11-year-old (we're from the Bay Area). My son had the Caeser Salad with Prawns -- very fresh salad, not overdressed -- and he ate most it even though it was pretty generous. I had the grilled Portobello Mushroom Sandwich, which was surprisingly good. As a vegetarian who hangs with omnivores, I often get the short end of the stick when it comes to the 1-2 menu items available for me, but this wasn't an afterthought -- the mushroom was really nice and smokey and it was served pulled-pork style on a soft bun with slaw and tangy bbq sauce -- yum! My husband had pulled pork and chili beans (which were nice and spicy, he said -- and he likes spicy), and he liked the pork so much that he decided to get some of their smoked salmon to take home (he smokes his own salmon, and he's picky about it, so it says something that he admired the smoker work enough to trust their salmon). The "side" of fries is an extremely generous basket -- we got two because my son is a fry monster, but we still had more than 1/2 a basket left when we were all stuffed. This is a casual "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" kind of place...counter ordering, utensils on the table in a cardboard six-pack holder, along with four sauces and napkins. We had a great service experience -- the young woman at the front desk was very efficient and kept track of orders perfectly, even though there was a pretty decent line of folks coming in, both for take out and dine-in. She also took the orders to the table, so believe me, she was hopping -- and never seemed to miss a beat. If you want a great casual meal in a laid-back local atmosphere, The Q is your place. read more

We ate at The Q in Fort Bragg Ca on 10/15/15 and we will be back!! I had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and it was fabulous!!! My husband had the Wild Boar hamburger and he loved it!! They both came with French fries which were just ok but the pork and boar were so darn good. The place is small and you order at the counter which is just fine with us!!! Don't let the looks deceive you... These guys know what there doing!! It will be our go to place every time we are in Fort Bragg!! read more

I took my Grand daughter for a night out with grandma. Was not impressed with service, girl that took our order decided to chat with someone in the back instead of us. Floor was dirty. Great Portion Size and reasonably priced. A family of 4 ate for under $50, this included a Boar Burger and Two orders of Brisket with sides. The Yukon Gold Potato salad was fabulous, just like my mom used to make. The 4 of us had to waddle back to our car because we were so full of great BBQ. Was looking forward to trying this place again but was extremely disappointed! When we entered the restaurant it smelled like old oil and fried fish. The customer service was very slow and very poor. We were placing our orders and wanted to substitute some of the side orders and were told we could not (even though they were on the menu!). Restaurants don't run themselves. Counter workers with a couple of months experience can't be left in charge without a penalty to the customers and most of all the owners. The reason that restaurant managers exist to keep a level of consistency in the running of the restaurant. The owners spent a ton on remodelling and decorating and buying very high end equipment. We went on opening day and met one of the owners and have never seen anyone in charge since then. We have bought food to go and eaten there about 6 times. My husband is a bbq aficionado and we kept trying to find if they had quality control on any food item. Pretty much they don't . In a small area here, restaurants have to cater to locals. We don't have enough tourists to have them support a restaurant. The food has been pretty good to grisly and very tough. It is disappointing that the owners of Cafe Beaujolais have left this restaurant to take care of itself and the empty parking lot speaks for the success of that move. read more

On September 6, 2014 we came into The Q Fort Bragg to try their bbq. We ordered pork short ribs and grilled blackened rockfish. The ribs had good smoky flavor and tasted better with the addition of the various bbq sauces available. The fish was seasoned nicely and cooked to perfection. But after taking one bite of the fish I smelled ammonia coming out of its flesh. This is the smell of fish when it begins to go bad (looked it up on the internet). I brought the fish back to the servers and told them it was NO good. After waiting 10 minutes the store manager decides the fish was OK to eat, that he couldn't smell the ammonia and that I could complain with the owner by leaving my phone number. The food was un-eaten so any reputable establishment would have replaced the food or refunded the cost. Not The Q of Fort Bragg, you get nothing! I left my phone number to explain my experience to the owner, never got a call back! If you're an establishment selling prepared food and you can't tell if the fish you serve is going bad, then you have no business serving food to the public. Let this be a notice to future diners. read more

The Q was some what of a disappointment for us. We love BBQ and could not wait to try the food. We ordered the Pulled pork sandwich & a half order of St Louis Pork Ribs for lunch. The service was fast & efficient. The sandwich arrived luke warm with only a very small portion of pork, a little to over priced for what we got. What we were exspecting was a hot sandwich with more pulled pork. The St Louis Pork Ribs were also luke warm & very dried out (over cooked I believe). You should really be on top of what comes out of the kichen & how it comes out. The Q being a new place to eat, every body in town will try it once, but that dose not mean they will try it again if the first time was a disappointment to them. We realize you are very busy with the new opening and some times the most important things are over looked. We wish you much sucess. It has been 2 months since we ate at The Q and we are kicking ourselves for not Yelping back then. Just returned yesterday from FB after having dinner, then lunch the next day. The staff now seems to have settled into a well-oiled flow. They are young but they know their stuff when it comes to answering any menu question to the spot on service. You still order at the counter and the line is still long (for good reason) but the service is fast and the food is oh so good. There were 5 of us and we ordered all over the menu. I had bites of everything but these were the stand outs for me: the Blackened Rock Fish with a spicy rub crust was so moist inside. I ordered it the following day over the Caesar Salad...now my personal fav! The pulled pork sandwich was piled high with hot smoked pork and cool cole slaw. The complexity of the flavor combination was amazing. The bun was hardy enough to hold everything in but was never too much bread. I had a side of warm cornbread dotted with kernels. Moist and delicious. I only got 1 bite of the Wild Boar Bacon Cheddar Burger from my brother-in-law. WOW!...enough said. Just look at what it's called. Other sides included the Wings! Spi-cy until you dip them in blue cheese then it's just smokey goodness. The ribs are fall off the bone pieces of heaven...but they should be!! It's a rib joint folks! Everything is served in cute plastic baskets lined with waxed paper, the utensils and sauces on the tables. The place is homey (and dog too friendly, I think) but the food is upscale BBQ baby! read more

I went there this evening with some friends. The cashier was very helpful, although she did not give one of us any change back. The food was alright, the pork was decent but it did seem as though the food had been reheated as it was a little old and dry. Agree with a previous poster about the slightly stale taste of the meat but the sauces were decent. However, my friend found a hair embedded in her baby back rib sauce. We asked to show it to the manager, according to the business cards by the cash register his name was Carlos, and he came out and started an argument. He said it was her hair and that his cooks don't have hair etc...I said why are you arguing about this, you should just apologize. He started arguing with me!! Extremely rude, I would never treat a customer that way. It's not like we were saying we wanted the meal for free, but I don't think expecting an apology was out of line. Sorry Q, I would rather eat my food at a restaurant where they know how to treat a person who spends $20 for a plate of Hairy BBQ. Disappointing. read more
