cut on my temple
Andres M.

I travel full-time for work and visit a new barber in nearly every city I visit. In the last year, I have been to 20 different barbers across 15 different states. Some are better than others, but what they all have in common is COURTESY and INTEGRITY. All the rave reviews for this barbershop led me to believe I would be getting an elevated barber experience. It was anything but. I've never been treated as carelessly and disrespectfully as I was by Michael S. From check in to check out, he barely spoke to me, beyond a cursory "how are you," which was the last hospitality I was shown for the next 30 minutes. When I told him what I wanted- a clean skin fade on the sides with length off the top- he scoffed at me, which immediately put me on edge. He didn't offer any suggestions or solutions, but told me that I barely had "enough hair" for that. I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt, and he started cutting. After 20 minutes of silence, he showed me the mirror. I asked him to clean up some things and he rolled his eyes- I was clearly bothering him. Apparently he knows my hair better than I do, but again, he didn't offer any solutions, just silence. I then had to ask him to clean something up AGAIN, to which he once more scoffed. Sure, he might have done what I asked- but he acted as though I was an annoying friend asking him for a favor, and treated me as a nuisance rather than a paying customer. He treated me roughly and actually cut my temple with his razor. He was kind enough to wipe my neck with a wet towel before sending me on my way, without bothering to brush off any of the hair on my face. My haircut is uneven and I will have to find another barber to fix it, as I will not be returning here. The experience was overall unsatisfactory and unsafe.

Disorganized scheduling wasted 40 minutes of my day. My original appointment was cancelled by QG. I was not called but texted. They offered to reschedule over text. I responded with my selection of their date and time offers but no one confirmed. Drove 20 minutes to be told I didn't have an appointment. Next time be more clear and follow up when you cancel an appointment on a client.

The beard trim was clutch

A+ service. I enjoyed my massage and beard trim. Every man must try this spot if you are in town!

I needed a haircut before a wedding and needed to be make sure that it was done right. I've heard good things so I thought I'd try The QG. Not only did they ensure that the cut was on point but I realized there was so much else to do like the restaurant/bar and was able to get a few accessories as well from their menswear department. The wedding was a success!

The massage therapist was great, and I really enjoyed my massage. I wish they gave you a heads up if you are not a member that it is a shoe free space.

TL;DR: Don't buy a gift certificate/card from this place…read more Zen and the City really appears to be set up for members and isn't equipped to interact with outsider customers. Unsurprisingly, most of the negative reviews are from people trying to deal with their gift certificates or gift cards since they are not able to provide reasonable service to people unfamiliar with their procedures. Throughout the process, I had to chase the owner, Gary, repeatedly over text and phone in order to get any information. A list of things I wish I knew before attempting to use a gift certificate here: I was alone in the building, not just the room, with an unknown man. Zen and the City is a therapist-owned establishment that has appointment-only booking for services. In light of this description, I probably should have known that I would be alone with my massage therapist. Except the website contains none of that information, which I only learned about after the appointment, so I was blindsided. My massage therapist was a very nice man who did his best to make me feel welcome and taken care of (Thank you, Anthony. You were the only good part of this whole experience!), but it was hard to set aside how uncomfortable it was to be alone with a strange man without knowing before that no one else would be there. The gift certificates (physical) and gift cards (e-cards) are redeemed in different ways. The website doesn't make it clear (either in the description or during the purchase) that physical gift certificates are only redeemable for a specific service, and that the gift certificates and gift cards are considered two different products. When I got the certificate for Zen and the City, neither my father (who bought this as a gift) nor I knew there was a difference between the two until after I had my appointment and was told otherwise. If you redeem the service-specific gift certificate for the wrong service by mistake, Zen and the City will not inform you of the mistake when you book your appointment and will instead pocket the remaining money without further services or refund, even after their error is pointed out to them. I suspect they would have prevented me from redeeming the gift certificate for something that was MORE money than the one I used, but when I accidentally used it from something that cost LESS, I was only told afterwards when I couldn't fix my mistake, or receive a refund for the balance. The initial confirmation text message is meaningless. It doesn't accurately reflect that an appointment's successfully been made (because you get a text regardless), and it does not result in you being correctly signed up to receive text messages. Instead, they will contact you by email, no matter your indicated preference (which they don't know anyway because they never ask for your preference). If there is a problem with your email address, they will not use your phone number to follow up. There will be no further attempt to contact you. I'll be honest and admit that I made quite a few mistakes in attempting to deal with Zen and the City, and I accept the responsibility of those mistakes. However, I think it's important for future potential customers to know beforehand that this is the kind of business that is happy to take advantage of your confusion, your mistakes, or your unexpected illness (check out their sick policy). It's up to you whether you want to risk giving this place your money and time.

Omg I would give -1 stars if I could. My husband had to go…read moreout of town for a funeral and wanted to plan something special for me for Mother's Day. He doesn't know anything about spas or pricing, so he called over to the four seasons. All they had available was a 20 min hydrofacial (bc it's a busy day, duh). The issue is that they charged THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS (yes, you read that right - $375) for a 20-MINUTE hydrofacial. Aka someone rubbed lotion on my face for 13 minutes. when I inquired about this very exorbitant bill, they said - this was the price agreed upon via email, according to our dynamic pricing. (In a very rude, snide tone, with a fake smile). I called my husband who said - yes, I agreed to that, but I was told you would have access to very nice amenities for several hours. LOL! Very nice? Yes, I know the four seasons name SHOULD have very nice amenities. This locker room was so small and so crowded that I couldn't even walk 1 step without bumping into someone. The person giving us a tour kept apologizing for how messy it was ("sorry, it's a really busy weekend for us") - no towels out, etc. there is a small hot tub - sorry, that's not exactly novel. There are two lounging areas. One with three chairs that look out onto... nothing, just a window with frosted glass that you can't see through. Six lounging chairs, and one small table outside that does have a nice view. (This is the only view in the entire spa). They have a small sauna room also. Nothing out of the ordinary, and not up to expectations for what is supposed to be a four seasons spa. On top of that, every single person in that spa was sitting/lying scrolling on their phones. In what world are phones allowed in a spa, let alone in a "clothing optional" hot tub room??! So I paid four hundred dollars for 13 mins of a facial massage (which WAS nice) and then sat outside at a random table for an hour. left quickly because there wasn't anything else to do to kill time. I just cannot believe that a place can charge that much for a service. Totally inappropriate, waste of money, do not recommend.

I loved the Spa at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore. It's beautiful and very relaxing. The staff…read moreare kind and helpful and they were celebratory when they found out we had just gotten engaged at the hotel. My attendant was awesome and I felt very welcomed. My favorite part is the vitality pool, heated stone chairs, sauna, and lounge. It was great to relax with those amenities. Everything was extremely clean. The vitality pool/sauna area is separated by gender and clothing optional. However, phones are allowed, and while it is fine to have one in a robe pocket, phones should not be out when others are around, especially in an area like that. But that is allowed, so be wary. Our massages were fine, but nothing we would rush back to or pay for again. I'd want to try a body scrub or wrap, my typical spa service. I'd also love to visit in warmer weather and use the outdoor pool. I am very much looking forward to returning.
