I must say that my experience today left me sadly disappointed. I had high hopes when I read all of the affiliated restaurants, and I believe that whoever curated the menu here has some unique ideas, however the execution was way off. The service was slow and clumsy. Multiple items on the menu were unavailable, and we waited a long time for our entrees (I have a feeling we were forgotten) and they eventually were served to the table next to us. We had to take control of the situation and let the runner know they were ours. Our waiter was confused and brought part of our order back to the kitchen before we could catch it. We had to enlighten him as to the fact that it was our overdue plate. The air conditioning was not on. It all seemed very rudimentary. Here are the list of items ordered and my specific review of each- 1) jalapeño deviled eggs- 3 halves, 1.5 eggs. Very little pepper flavor, and more sweet than heat. As jalapeño fanatics, we were disappointed. 2) scallop app- the thick pork belly was prepared through a deep fry- resulting in a very hard and crispy chunk of bacon- I have strong teeth and it didn't bother me overtly, however I would have much preferred a hard pan sear to enhance the texture. The blueberry horseradish reduction had no horseradish flavor whatsoever. The scallops were cooked to perfection and big and beautiful, However they got lost between the thick pork belly and sweet super intense blueberry flavor. I would have preferred this dish deconstructed. If I were to replicate this I would do arugula lightly dressed in a blueberry vinaigrette topped with one piece of pan seared pork belly and the scallops atop. Even still, the scallops were so beautiful, they deserved to shine through in an even simpler preparation. 3) tavern fries- oh boy. This sounded great on paper however these shoestring fries were fried to death. I mean the mouth feel of a thick cape cod chip crunchy with no amount of tenderness in the center- totally oil logged as if someone had forgotten about them in the fryer for twice as long as they required and topped with cheese bacon and a malt vinegar aioli that BARELY had hints of malt vinegar. 4)KIDS- chicken tenders were out (how?) so we settled on cavatappi with tomato sauce (bland with MINIMAL amount of sauce) and cavatappi with "cheese sauce". The cheese sauce had absolutely no cheese, and was instead a massively under seasoned grainy bechamel. It would have been passable given it contained any amount of cheese or even just some salt- even only if it were the pasta water that was seasoned at all. It was so sad and inedible. Both toddlers wouldn't touch it, and I didn't blame them one bit. 5) Caesar with anchovies- good but not great. "I've had better" [Jim Carey, Liar Liar] The option of anchovies was nice but other than that a very basic Caesar. All in all it was fine. 6) venison rack- this plate saved the entire meal for me- the venison was seasoned beautifully, however I tasted minimal pistachio in the crust, but also cooked to absolute perfection and was velvety and delicious. The beet parm risotto was delightful. I didn't know how I would feel about it but was pleasantly surprised! The beet lended just the right amount of sweetness, and the parm contrasted the beet in the perfect way. It was almost floral but also with deep umami as well. A perfect balance of yin & yang. The pickled radish was a nice fresh touch. Would have appreciated more greenery or veg, but overall this dish was very beautiful and creative. All in all, I'm sad because I see so much wasted potential. Maybe hire some kitchen and waitstaff with more experience and a desire to excel and try again. Rethink some aspects because the bones are good, but the details are way off. read more

We went here once before with another couple a few months ago and it was decent. When we went back this time, it may have been due to understaffing, but after we were seated and ordered drinks, we got the wrong drinks. It took a long time for the server to check back in on us to swap the drinks to the correct ones. We had also ordered the cheese fries appetizer, which came out lukewarm with the cheese not even melted. We did not see the server for at least a half hour after receiving the appetizer. We hadn't even had a chance to put in our dinner order. We finally gave up and asked for the check when we finally did see the server. Very disappointing. I'm really impressed with this place! For a local brunch, happy hour, or dinner spot that's in our area, I like the low-key vibe and the various gastopub-style food choices. The staff are youthful but professional, bright and inspiring. The inside is clean and tastefully decorated to produce a memorable ambiance. Just a quick tip: if you plan to come here for brunch on Sunday, try to get there when they open. This place fills up FAST due to its popularity. I think you can make reservations online, though. Let me just say that the food is absolutely delicious! Their brunch menu offers a great fusion of different styles with choices for everyone. Another huge bonus: THEIR COCKTAILS. This is the first time I have ever had a drink that had GLITTER in it! It's called the "Center of the Universe" & has a purple tint to it (looks pretty!). I also had a jalapeno/spicy bloody Mary which was made very well! For my meal I had the Swiss Frittata - it was a very generous portion & was seasoned very well. They give you an option of "tots" instead of home fries. I went for the "tavern tots" & they were tasty! It's almost like a "loaded" version. Service was unfortunately slow when I went & I was with a party of 6, but I guess their head chef had recently left. I would find it unfair to judge them based on that. Love this place! We were in the area and needed a bite to eat and this came up on our search. Looked at the menu online and the food sounded good. We didn't have reservations so it was just a small wait time (highly recommend reservation if you do come) and we sat at the bar. The food and drinks did not disappoint. The food was slowish coming out, which we REALLY enjoyed because we got to enjoy our drinks and then we got to enjoy our appetizers... So if you are looking for a quick bite don't come here on a Saturday night or get it to go. Come here for great food, great service, great atmosphere. On Thursday July 8, 2021 at The Railpenny myself and my my wife where pressured to leave while we still had our drinks to finish by the bus boy and the waitress. I believe the they where directed to do so by the owner Kate McGrath of The Railpenny. The Railpenny was one of (until now) three restaurants in Epping NH that we will go to where we live Epping. This was our second visit in the month of July. In the month of June between us and six of our family members combined visited The Railpenny 11 times with the average bill being $140. The bill on this occasion was $110 for a party of two. This is the first time I ever changed the tip and the first time I ever tipped under 50% of bill. But based on the actions of the owner Kate McGrath and staff in treating us in such a way forced me to do so like them forcing us out. To the owner Kate McGrath of The Railpenny before you start having your staff force people out maybe you should talk to the customer and see if your staff was attentive to the customer. In this case you would have out that waitress was not. I had to flag the waitress down multiple times for drinks and a dessert menu. We were greeted with smiles from every employee we met. Our waitress was without a doubt the best part of our experience. She had a great, bubbly personality and was very well mannered. Asking us, at the right moment, if we had enough coffee or if our meal was satisfactory. Honestly one of the best waitresses my wife have ever had in our travels. The portions were good and tasty, made with a few extra spices that made it above and beyond the local competition. What an absolutely incredible experience! This place was amazing from start to finish. I've driven by several times, but I always imagined more of a pub-like atmosphere inside, so I was hesitant to visit for a nice dinner. I could not have been more wrong. The decor is modern, rustic farmhouse- both charming and inviting. There is water and glasses already on the tables, as well as linen-wrapped silverware. This may sound insignificant, but they were small touches that I appreciated. The service was outstanding. We were greeted almost immediately and never left to want for a single thing. Each dish was served as it became ready, and we had several people taking care of our table- each delivering our meals with a smile, each genuine and attentive. The mussels I ordered were the best that I have ever had in my life, and I am a mussel fanatic. The raw tuna entree was absolutely spectacular. It simply melted in my mouth. I had white wine, but my boyfriend ordered the Railpenny Punch, and he said it was delicious. His son had the kid's mac and cheese, and although we thought the serving looked too large for his small frame, he finished every single bite- and also his dessert. The prices were hard to believe. We were there during happy hour, so the mussels and drinks were specially priced. Even at full price, they would be a steal. The owner, Kate, stopped by our table to say hello and could not have been more gracious and pleasant. This place is the real deal. I was excited to try this place. We were meeting old friends and had a 530 reservation. The food was good, we had a deviled egg with maple bacon to start and I was happy to see a sour beer on the beer menu. My husband and his friend ordered burgurs, I had a chicken sandwich and my friend ordered a falafel wrap. The bill came and my friend still had some of her drink left and we paid. Then our server told us we needed to leave because they busy and wanted our table. I have never been asked to leave unless it was closing time. We all were shocked! What a lucky find for us. During our kid's 3 day soccer tournament in NH, I decided that I was done with kid food. Looks are deceiving here! Once inside, the ambiance is that of a cozy gastro pub. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. My waiter snapped at some patrons when my sleepy four year old aggressively climbed on me and pushed my chair back so fast that I ended up on the floor. The oysters were gritty and I had mouthfuls of shell. I have never had that happen any where before. The bartenders were more preoccupied with making large jugs of pre-made drinks that dealing with us, the only couple at the bar. To be fair, the other food items we ordered were good but the experience was far less appealing than our previous visits. I understand we are dealing with uncommon circumstances right now but I think every establishment needs to try extra hard to bring their customers the same experience we spent $90 on pre March 15, 2020. Although priced moderately, the food was mediocre at best. Medium rare steak came medium-well, and the sauce they topped the steak with was lukewarm at best. I had high expectations and that might be why this didn't meet them. The service was good & the atmosphere was very rustic/modern but it was as if Covid wasn't even a consideration. Three of us came today for Easter brunch. Upon arriving the hostess who was also our waitress was very nice and friendly. We were seated at a cozy little table by a sunny window. Our initial impression was very positive. Unfortunately after this the experience went downhill. The coffee was awful. Two of us had the coffee and both of us were in agreement it was the worst coffee we had ever had. Our food arrived about 40 minutes after we placed the order. Seemed a bit lengthy but it's Easter and it was busy. My husband had the chicken and waffle. I would like to preface that he NEVER complains and said the "waffle was hard as a rock and cold". I had the egg sandwich and tater tots. The bottom of my egg sandwich was completely wet and soggy. I think if it hadn't sat for awhile before I received it, it would have been delicious. The tater tots weren't cold. But they weren't hot either. my son had the yogurt parfait and waffle and also said it was just "ok" This was our first time here. We left disappointed. Just moved to Barrington and found this place. Gorgeous aesthetic, the food was amazing, wicked cute bar and great service. Our server Hannah was killer. We like a really spicy Bloody Mary and this is the best. The only other Bloody Mary I can talk up is Franklin oyster house Clamato and that's it for the seacoast area. Went in with three others and had a pretty easy order. Calamari-average at best. Sauces were horrific so I ate them plain. Meals were: Steak-ordered med came rare but was edible. Mac n cheese-decent, not your moms, but ok if your hungry. Swordfish-Garbage! Served cold in the middle. Sent back then came back after being microwaved. American burger ordered med/well-absolute garbage. Delivered raw. Sent back. They microwaved that and brought me the same burger back. Real appetizing to get a burger with hot mayo. I didn't even take a bite, i just shook my head at the waitress. I just wanted out of this place but the manager woman came over and dutifully apologized. She said the dumbest thing, "people love our burgers". Starting to get pissed I replied, I bet they would be good if you cooked them rather than microwaved them. She then uped her service game saying she'd take the two diners off the bill. Like I was going to pay for that slopfest you dingus. Never, ever again! Our to go order was expected to be ready an hour after we placed it (it's Saturday so that is definitely reasonable) we arrived on time only to wait 35 minutes for our order to finally be given to us. I was fine with it since they were busy and excited for fresh food...our food was far from hot and fresh. The fries and calamari were greasy and oily and cold, burger was wayyyyy over done, macaroni and cheese was cold and congealed. Not one item of our order was prepared well. I really don't get this place. The beer selection is ok. The cocktails look good. But the food is just weird. Past meals were incredibly inconsistent when it goes to quality and temperature. The deviled eggs I ordered cam with three halves. What are they doing with the other half an egg? The filling in the deviled egg was almost liquid and had way too much Dijon mustard in it. The place looks rustic. Has Cornhole tournaments. But serves beer in a glass with a stem. Just use normal glasses. This isn't hard. Why isn't the holy Grail open on Mondays.... read more

We came here on a family recommendation and LOVED IT!! The food was lights out incredible, as well as the service. We shared the roasted cauliflower, lobster cakes and grilled cantaloupe salad. All three dishes were such incredible blends of flavors and textures. Awesome. For dinner I had lobster mac n cheese which is everything you would want in a comfort food. My husband had the lobster roll which didn't disappoint - it was wonderful. To top it all off - our waiter was the perfect amount of attentiveness.
