Lobster roll - dry and flavorless also tons of shell.

We ordered at least 3 lobster rolls this trip. Each one of them, the lobster was overcooked, dry and lacked that sweet lobster flavor. Workers have suggested the lobster is frozen which explains the lack of fresh sweet flavor if true. Our next 2 lobster rolls came from The Pink Door and while smaller, it's a great value and was delicious - sweet, tons of whole recognizable pieces, perfectly cooked and very lightly dressed. Exactly how a lobster roll should be.

Not much on ambiance so the food must be killer, right? Well.... Oysters @ $4/ were OK - a couple were so tiny they probably shouldn't have been harvested. Monstah Lobster rolls @ $48/. OK, probably twice the meat of a regular roll, but no side included; no butter or other topping offered; fresh, but unseasoned lobster meat; and served on a stale bun? Service was friendly, but they seemed short-handed. Add on an hour wait for a table and I think we're one and done with Raw Bar.

Well, a friend told me about this place so I decided to give it a try. I was after one thing and one thing only, the "monster lobster roll"!. This is a small, quaint bar and restaurant inside with a good sized area outside. I was able to watch them make these rolls one after the other, these are a big hit! The use a 12 oz soup cup and pack it with lobster meat which makes every one consistent! They then put it in a grinder roll and press it in! Was nice to watch them make these! Anyway back at the condo I added some pasta salad and I will say this was delicious!

This place is one where the average review is right on. I wish that I could give it 3 and 1/2 stars. Its not a 3 but it is definitely not a 4. Its a definite 3 1/2. Look, I like lobster. I dare say that I like lobster as much as the next guy. Maybe more. Especially if the next guy doesn't really like lobster. But as much as me and that guy may like lobster, does a lobster roll really warrant a $30 price tag? Thirty dollars? For a sandwich? Really? Yeah, I know its as big as my head. I was there. I ordered it. I measured it against my head. But its a sandwich. And there really is only so much cold lobster and mayo one man can eat. And I can eat. A lot. Anyway, if you do decide to get this thing (and I advise that you share. Maybe with some chowder. Or the chili), definitely squirt some cocktail sauce on it. Helps to cut the richness of the lobster a bit. The food here is good. If you like seafood. If you don't like seafood? Well, your options are a LOT more limited. I would definitely suggest going somewhere else if you are looking for anything other than seafood. Or a hotdog. The oysters are good. The lobster roll is, well, we covered that above. The chowder is tasty. But this place is not cheap. There's no other way to say it. Don't go here without expecting to throw down some cash. And if you go in season? Yeah, expect a wait. We actually went yesterday. Outside of season. It was still crowded for dinner. And that's a problem. Because there was only one poor waitress handling the whole outside seating area. Which was not good. It wasn't fair to her and definitely nor fair to the patrons. Who were all pretty good sports about the fact that it took an incredibly long time to get drinks. Or food. Or napkins. Im not sure if the owners read these reviews but for heaven's sake, put more staff on for a Friday night in September. It will turn your tables a LOT faster!!! So. To summarize. Giant expensive lobster rolls. Tasty, but overwhelming after a while. Decent other food. Understaffed and overworked employees. Like I said, a meal worth 3 1/2 stars.

Good ambiance and friendly staff. One staff member shucking oysters and making lobster rolls. I ordered the same drink twice, it was different the second time. Kitchen wise - what you see (from the bar) is what you get. Limited equipment, multiple microwaves; all food served on paper. Parking isn't great; pretty sure I l made my own spot in the woods 3 stars because overall I enjoyed myself but not sure if I'd go back.

I stand corrected. We all have different preferences for lobster rolls, some like chilled, others hot, some like mayo, others plain, some like a lot of add-ins. On my previous visit I was disappointed that there was no seasoning or mayo on my supersized lobster roll. I returned to the Raw Bar for their Sunday lobster special and I enjoyed twin lobsters with corn on the cob and hot butter for $23. Cup of Chowder was delicious and reasonable at $6. They are still limited by microwaving rather than a full kitchen for wings, etc. but drinks are cheap at $10 for wine and you can't beat the Sunday lobster special. It is fun to sit in the lively bar or at a picnic table in the back yard. Service was very attentive.

Came here on the recommendation of a friend who spent their summers at the cape. The Raw Bar was her only must go to recommendation. It didn't disappoint. We got the lobster roll and an assortment of of things and it was soooooo good. The following weekend I went to Maine and of course got a lobster roll there and I preferred the raw bars roll to the one I'm Maine. Next cape visit I'll be coming back. The atmosphere was very nice also. Live music, shops and an ice cream.

A bit expensive for a lobster roll at almost $40 each, but they can serve at least two people - they're huge! The lobster is fresh, not too much mayo and lightly seasoned to perfection. I bring everyone here when they come to visit for the best lobster roll in the area. All the seating is outside so be prepared if the weather isn't great. Also make sure to grab food there, the size is a bit smaller if you order the roll to go. The clam chowder is good too but the lobster roll is really what we keep coming back for. note: the portion of the $2.50 coleslaw is small (and not worth it).

*2020 pandemic* so me and the family were craving lobster rolls and it was really hard to find some but we had heard amazing things about this little shop only serving lobster rolls, so we said screw it let's take the drive. Getting there was tricky, GPS just kind of puts you in a random spot. The the raw bar is inside of the "center" where you'll see the ice cream place and some clothing stores. We ordered online so we just went up to the window and said our name and our rolls were ready We were starving at this point and looking for somewhere to eat so we drove to the nearest beach. Now the lobster roll its self. Huge. Lots of meat. Bun was not toasted. This was a cold lobster roll. I don't know if they do a warm one but we got the cold one. After about 3 bites it tasted very bland, they didn't come with lemons. S&P. Nothing. I ended up giving the rest to my dog. For $31 dollars a pop I was hoping to be satisfied. But this lobster roll was very bland. It doesn't matter if its 2lbs of lobster meat, if the lobster meat isn't seasoned

Went here on a recommendation from our kayak guide at Rideaway Adventures and really glad he did. The lobster roll here was the best one I've had so far and one of the cheapest for $31. If it was just that, this place is 4.5 stars. I appreciated the extra seating they set up in the parking lot, though it crimps on the parking, and trying to keep the distance. Our server was very, very nice, but (this is why I dropped back to 3) her section was very shortstaffed so it took a while to get our drinks and food, along with paying the bill and leaving to the point that I had to walk my check over. Since I had the family, we weren't looking to linger that much. Again, they lobster roll here was incredible and would still go back here again when I visit. read more

I came here with the family yesterday and this place is just as good as I remember. I was surprised to hear their is a newish owner (like 3 years) as Bob owned the place for years. The quality of the Lobster Rolls is the same and added seating under the tent was great. I also love the fact they play Reggae music. read more

Ahhhhhmazzing. I have NEVER had such a good lobstah roll in my life. I am on the west coast for the summer and am having such an incredible craving for the Popponesset's Raw Bar Lobster Roll... I could almost die. The amount of lobster meat you get in each sandwich is unbelievable - easily 1.25 lbs. Almost no mayonaise. This is one thing I look forward to most - summer on the cape with a lobster roll from the Raw Bar. The only downside is they have limited hours -- seasonal. read more

After a thorough search of New England and a hankering for lobster. It all came down to Raw Bar. New England's best, or maybe just Boston. Hard to say. But it was in the Cape and that was a good sign. The drive was horrendous, but we were determined by the end reward. Arrival: This nice little niche is tucked away in the back of a small beach themed shopping center. Very dog friendly. Ambience: The actual Raw bar has an outside patio, the inside is literally a small bar, but they extend out to another restaurant Bob's, right down the pathway. They serve the same food and everything. More ample seating and outside benches. Food: This place had really good reviews. The lobster roll is pricy, but they give you a lot; about a pound. They have stuffed quahog, fish and chips, and sandwiches. Obviously you come for one thing. Food was quick, and the quahog was seasoned nicely. Very decent amount of food. The fish and chips are really good. The flavor is astonishing; so fresh. Straight from the sea. Loved it. The lobster roll; bun was not toasted, no fillers in the salad. Just straight mayo and lobster. Very basic. Seasoning was neutral. The lobster is fresh though. In the end, their lobster roll wasn't for me, but I'll try others. If I return, fish and chips all the way. Service was good and friendly and there are tons of shops to walk by and look. Not to mention dogs everywhere. I'm sure it's a decent outing when visiting the Cape. read more

Tourist trap. Lobster rolls are big but roll is cold and dry. $40 for steamers?? wtf...no more than $20 any where else on the cape. Felt sick the next morning. Service was good. I won't be back. read more

The menu is limited but if you enjoy a huge lobster roll or some shrimp cocktail... this place is for you!! We know lobster rolls... we had them at all of the most renowned popular must eat places on the Cape. The search was over for the best when we found the Raw Bar! Excellent drinks and mountain of lobster meat... you can't beat it! Also the Shrimp Cocktail, a little pricey at $4 bucks a piece but when our server brought them to our table you saw where that $4 was going... the were ginormous!!!! Took at least 4 bites to eat each one! The one downside is the kids options... just a hotdog. But if they aren't a big fan you can go right next the and order food and they will come and deliver it right to your table! read more

So disappointed, this place came highly recommended. Claim Chowder was ok. Crab cake was not good and even worse than that was their lobster roll. The bun was stale and the lobster had no flavor. Their bloody Mary's lacked any flavor whatsoever. Not sure why anyone is going here. We will not be going back read more

Nope! Definitely bummed we tried this. Oysters on the 1/2 shell were warm. The stuffed qouhog was burned black when delivered and looked gross. We still tried it and wish we didn't. The lobster roll was the biggest we've ever had but it was kind of bland. Much better at 100's of other places. They also charge for soda refills. We definitely won't be back or recommending this place. read more

I am a local and I go to raw bar regularly even though prices have gone from way too expensive to astronomical. Lobster rolls are huge but at the current price no longer will I be getting it , little neck clams are phenomenal ( if they clean the sand out) ! Oysters freshest.. and best part is the tiny poponesset marketplace atmosphere that gets crowded in summer but never gets old. read more

This is what I think of when I think of Cape Cod summer seafood. It's seat yourself in the back (which can get quite hot in the sun - there's a white fence that effectively blocks out all breeze), and the waiter will come out to serve you. We came here because we were eyeing the MASSIVE lobster rolls as we were walking by. They are definitely pricey ($30/roll) but you get a TON of lobster. It's sandwiched in a soft hotdog bun which is pretty good. There isn't a ton of flavor to it, but the seafood is quality. I'd say a decent lobster roll. Also got some oysters which weren't all that great (kind of warm). read more

Bigger is not always better. A heap of bland lobster on a dry (untoasted) bun is not what's gonna get folks to wait in line again. So disappointing. We won't be back. Take a few minutes to grill a bun and make your lobster have some taste and they'll be lining up again. Read your reviews. Oh... the fried clams are good though. read more

Very disappointed. This place has gone way downhill. Ordered a colossal lobster roll plus fish and chips and my dad couldn't eat the fish bc it was so dry. The lobster roll cost a whopping $48 and was barely larger than a typical lobster roll. They used to be huge. It also was very dry. We felt really ripped off. Won't be returning. read more

Did you ever think you'd spend almost $30 on a single lobster roll? Well you don't have to... Sort of! These beasts are actually perfect for two people. So split 'em unless you're starved. Packed with the meat of prob 4 lobsters, you can eat enough lobster meat to hold you over for a year. I typically favor a toasted, buttery bun, but these were big and soft and fresh and managed to hold the mass of lobster in quite well. It's actually so jam-packed with meat that they supply you with a fork to eat the top layer without risking losing some to the floor or your lap while you eat. The clam chowder was also great and not served too hot so as to burn your tongue. Our order came out to us as we opted for a seat outside in the courtyard. Options for anti-seafood folks are on the menu as well. My brother had a hot dog, my mom had a Qoahog and some chower, and my dad and I shared a lobster roll with fries. Definitely a lovely spot to check out and do some shopping before or after you eat. Sadly it's not the best lobster roll I've ever had, but it's the biggest by far! read more

This review is for my visit during 2020 pandemic. As soon as I entered the place, a middle aged man in the kitchen NOT wearing a mask himself screamed at me "NO MASK NO ENTRY!". He was right as I did not have a mask but I had my scarf on my face. I found his attitude very rude. Being a LOBSTA expert...self taught of course through 1000's of pounds LOBSTA...this was one of the worst. Quantity and $38 for tasteless, dried out tails & claws, dry roll does not constitute great or even good. Do NOT waste your money...drive to Maine and go to Red's...Worth the drive and the money...wait...maybe these guys should go and learn what a great roll actually is... read more

Highway robbery for the lobster roll. Nobody else charges $50 per roll; that is not "market price." Yes, there's a lot of meat, but some of it was overcooked and they don't even grill the bun. read more

I came here in the summer of 07 and dear lord, the lobstah roll was the best I have ever had. At least 2 pounds of meat - HUGE - no fillers and so fresh. I forced myself to eat the whole thing it was so damn good. This place was ridicuously hard to find, but thankfully I didn't give up or I would have missed the best lobster roll of my life. read more

Huge lobster rolls!! The lobster rolls this year were $30. They are pricey but there is no filler like lettuce, just the roll, lobster and a little mayo. They went up in price from last year, but still are amazing and you get a lot of lobster. The bar is always crowded but there is an outside area with seating. When we went this time there was an awning to cover were you sit. This place was on Phantom Gourmet a few years ago for the lobster roll. read more

Our group of 6 came on Friday night at 9pm on memorial wknd. Since it was late already we had no wait. You walk to the back where there are a few picnic tables under the tent. We had lobster rolls, clam chowder and steamers. The lobster roll is huge! Filled w tons of meat. And the chowder is pretty tasty. However- we probably wouldn't want to wait more than 15-20 mins for it thought. Theres a cafe right across from it where u can get the same lobster roll and chowder that raw bar serves--- Incase the wait is really long. read more

Went to The Raw Bar in Mashpee last night. With wall to wall people, the seating was pretty chaotic, but we found two empty seats at the bar after waiting a few minutes. The bartenders were good, not overly friendly. We ordered clam chowder, raw oysters, and hard cider. The chowder was ultra hot and burned even 20 min into our stay. the oysters were ok, nothing to write home about. Usually raw oysters are served over ice to keep them cool, as they are RAW. Not here, the raw oysters were served in paper "French Fry" trays without ice. So all in all, I've definitely been to better raw bars, The a Raw Bar in Mashpee, Ma is a seafood version of Dicks Last resort or even McDonalds. But forwhat we ordered the price wasn't bad. read more

Worst lobster roll I have ever tasted. You do get a heaping amount but the lobster meat was so dry. So tasteless. The roll itself was just as bland and stale. I can't believe we paid $72 for this! Don't be fooled by the pics. Not worth your time. I'll stick to RI for my lobster rolls. So disappointed! read more

Lobster roll was giant, $36 per roll, cold roll with very light Mayo, only issue was the bits of shell every other bite. My wife had shell every bite. Really disappointing for the price, can find a better roll elsewhere for sure. For me, didn't really like the crowd, just a ton of people drinking and yelling, couldn't wait to leave. Wait staff very understaffed. Definitely won't be back. read more

Very cute spot - although it was incredibly difficult to find. Great service - comfortable outdoor and indoor seating. Nice space for families and couples - and the most generous lobster roll I've ever encountered! We could barely finish one of them together. The rum punch was good, but it was 1/4 liquid, 3/4 ice. The strawberry daquiri was pretty underwhelming as the well rum being used in it was such low quality that I found myself barely able to consume it (yuck). Chowder was delicious, and crab cakes were spot on. If you're looking for a fresh ice cold beer and the best most generous huge lobster roll on the cape - this is your spot! read more

Delicious raw bar lobster with a lot of meat, very fresh. They told me that the classic one is smaller and usually for one person. The raw bar lobster ($30.00) was split between three people and it was enough plus fries ($5.00). I'll definitely be back! read more

I love my food and more than anything I Iove to travel for it. For well over a decade I've been making the TREK to a little place called the #rawbar in #popponessetvillage for their amazing lobster rolls. for years I would rate this place 4 plus stars, that was until today. I get my bill. $30 - Lobster Roll - I don't blink, I'm used to it. $12 - Non-Alcoholic Pina Colada for my 4-year olf son $9 - RUM PUNCH I ask the waitress about the price for my son's drink and she says I don't make the prices talk to the manager. The owner Bob Weekes has crossed the line in my book. You want to charge $30 for a great lobster roll fine, but $12 for a Non-Alcoholic Pina Colada for a 4-year-old is just outrageous. Definitely stop here! While visiting the Cape for a friend's wedding we were directed here to try the lobster roll. On our way through New Seabury we were worried our casual attire would not fit in but to our surprise this was a beachy/Boardwalk type shop with a cute little bar. The manager (Kate?) was phenomenal- super nice and recommended places for us to visit during our stay. We could of hung out there all day - I had a white wine and my fiancé had the Mayflower IPA which paired so well with the huge lobster roll! We absolutely loved it. I was a bit skeptical about the lobster in mayo on a hot dog bun but I am convinced I could have one almost every day. The lobster roll here was massive with a ton of lobster, no filler. read more

It has retained its iconic "Best in Cape Cod" Lobster Roll from The Raw Bar next door, and improved the dining and bar menu. The food was quite good. The bar side deck was renovated to allow service directly from the bar with counter seating. A triangular sail cover now stretches over the cleaned up deck, a visible improvement. They still retain counter-style service with flagged numbers for servers to run out and find the customers but the layout of the restaurant seemed to make it difficult for the runner that day. I would like to see the traditional table service offered at The Raw Bar at least on one side of the restaurant if tips are being asked for at the counter.

Not really the best. Not a pick up place. If you go here for the singles scene, I found it lacking. Mostly the patrons are the trashier versions of WASP family types or yuppie Nantucket Red wearing couples. Not attractive. Also, I have to rate the wait staff here as not easy on the eyes. You will need your sunglasses if you go. Once you get over the disappointment over the lack of yummy men, you will most likely divert your attention to the environment. Essentially this is a shack. There is an indoor shack with a bar, then a fenced in area, kind of like what you might pen a dog in, this is the outdoor seating area. Posted around the fence are these neon pink laminated paper signs that read, "NO CELL PHONE USE OR TEXTING. THIS MEANS YOU IDIOT." Décor like this speaks to the level of class in this establishment. (And I made a point to take a photo of it with my cell phone.) Tables consist of sticky gray picnic tables where separate parties are encouraged to sit together. Not too appealing unless you can make a persuasive move to initiate some fun activities with your new dining companions for later that evening. But given the attractiveness of the clientele here, I don't think you'd be into that. The main reason people go here is for the lobster roll. Extolled as the greatest lobster roll on the Cape, this is a bunch of crustacean flesh, yet it is a lot, enough to share between two, but it is served in such a cheap and crass way that I don't consider it worth it. The bun for the lobster roll is like what you get at the dollar store for hot dog buns. They also do not give you real silverware here; they prefer the environmentally friendly disposable plastic forks and paper hot dog plate. If you're looking for the best lobster roll on the Cape, head on over to D'Angelo's. I assure you it will be tastier, cheaper, the dining accommodations classier and the servers more pleasant. read more

Seriously, we were sitting at the picnic table when everyone on the other side jumped up to look under their tables because a resident mother skunk Who had been shooed away from the "free water area" left her Baby skunk in the dining area! Waitress, bouncers, etc. all said, "oh, they live here!" AND continued to seat people with NO WARNING! We asked for the mgr, but he was not available because he was "busy with the skunks"! So ticked, went here for our anniversary and service was terrible. Husband used to work here and owner is a coke head. After a large tab we were given a hard time for looking at our cell phone.
