It's all about the food here, mainly the lobster roll - the size - the quality - and the Instagram worthy picture of said lobster roll. **Just a little disclaimer that you come here for the food - not for the service or spectacular views that other seafood places on Cape have to offer. *** This restaurant only has "views" of white fence walls that surround it's outside table area. With all this being said, if you ARE looking for a FRESH and HEFTY lobster roll this is the place to come. The lobster rolls have an enormous amount of meat and just the right amount of mayonnaise, however it comes at a price, $30 for ONE lobster roll. There are other less pricey options for food too if you aren't into a raging lobster roll; the clam chowder and corn on the cobb are other GREAT options. You also should know that most of the seating is outside and when I say seating I mean there are only about 9 tables - if your party is less than 4 people you should expect and be open to sitting with another group of people, sharing your table. read more

So the last time I was here was around 5 years ago. I guess that's right around when Barbados Bob sold the the restaurant. Back then, there was a wait to get in and the place was jam packed. I I remember physically not being able to enter the bar due to the number of people in there. I also remember the lobster roll being about the best one I've ever had. We had some great times here back then. Fast forward to tonight, we walked right in and it was about a third full. We got a lobster roll to split and some clam chowder. Although just as big as I remember, the lobster was dry and tasteless. The chowder was just meh. The mixed drink was pretty decent though. The raw bar was a big part of my younger days where it was the first stop when we got here and had a few rum punches and a lobster roll to start off our vacation. Some how you always leave this place with a bad taste in your mouth regardless of how good it could be. The food is great, drinks great, location and parking great, but year after year (five years running) the service is just atrocious. Doesn't matter if there are 3 people at the bar or 40 people on the patio, the service is just piss poor. Every year it's a different group of high school and college kids, but they are always terrible. A casual offshoot of the Popponesset Inn, The Lure provides dining with a view of the Atlantic Ocean whether outside on the deck or in the beach club. It is open to the public after 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday. I'm not sure about the weekend. The food is simple bar food with a seafood tilt. The lobster roll is beautiful and delicious though this is NOT the famous Raw Bar lobster roll in the Popponesset Marketplace. It is less sweet and you will get less meat for the money. The steamers are perfectly cooked. The mixed drinks are potent. There is live music after 7 pm. Bravo for combining a great view, al fresco dining, good food and good service. read more

We had the displeasure of choosing the raw bar for dinner last night First, where is the raw bar. The were no oysters, clams, or any other shell flsh items normally found at a "raw bar". Then we ordered draft beers from the bar and after our first sip we both felt that the beer was watered down, which i didn't think anyone did anymore. After our rather expensive entrees were served, we were disappointed by all meals. The fried whole belly clams were whole belly in name only. The lobster roll was lackluster, roll was not grilled, and it was basically tasteless. A friend had the fish and chips. One lousy little piece of cod that was overcooked. All I need to say is there isn't a better lobster roll to be found! We've tried lobster rolls at many places and this is the very best! Fresh lobster meat using knuckle and claws mostly and that is the sweetest part and a little mayonnaise on a large plain roll. They have a bar and you can eat inside or outside under the tent, and across from the bar they have a restaurant you order from and can also get fried seafood and other items from and there are tables inside and out and they just did a remodel. Well first off you have to serve yourself when it comes to water. Oysters are over $2 each and are VERY small, but the waitress will tell you "they're a pretty decent size!". $28 for a lobster roll? I've always heard raving reviews of the Raw Bar, so I was excited to check it out. I'd say I left disappointed. The bar was small, packed, and extremely hot. It's also littered with signs all over the place telling customers that cell phone use is not tolerated. Unfortunately, the message is not conveyed in an appropriate customer-friendly manner. The bottom of all the signs that say no cell phone use are finished with "That means you, IDIOT!" Who ever thought it was a good idea to refer to paying customers as idiots?! Within 5 minutes of being there we saw a waitress go around the outdoor space and tell everyone on cell phones (texting, not talking) that they had to put them away. I can understand not wanting people to be talking on the phone, but the anti-texting stance I just don't understand! What if people are texting friends to show up to the Raw Bar? Or posting a picture on Facebook raving about their current bar experience? Or are researching an item on the menu with their phone? We got two stuffed quahogs... Mine was OK, but my brother's was overcooked... The whole thing was rock hard. Never knew you could overcook a stuffed quahog... Disappointing. I was looking forward to trying their $25 lobster roll prior to this visit... but I will venture elsewhere for a lobster roll after this experience! read more

Easily my favorite meal on Cape Cod. This is literally one of the reasons we were attracted to the area and bought property within near walking distance. It is a must visit whenever we have guests and now after 5 years we have regular guests who all want to go to the Raw Bar at least once during their visit. I'm assuming most of you have functioning eyes so you can see the pictures of these lobster rolls, which basically have 3-4 lobsters' worth of meat in 'em and no fillers (light on the mayo, too). My quandry: I *HATE* mayonaise. But these are New England's best lobster rolls. So what's a girl to do? Give the roll a shot, of course. Even for someone who loathes mayo, there's still enough lobster in here and hardly any mayo to make it worth a try. But were I to come back here, which I very well might, I'd just got the Sunday lobster special - $15 for a lobster/corn/slaw. I'd rather wrestle with my meat a bit and get less for half the price than have it covered in goo. But that's me. My colleague described their lobster rolls as "so good" that "you'll need to fly down to Florida just to punch your [infant] nephew in the face, they're that good." So yah - from a lobster roll enthusiast, there's your recommendation. From a lobster fan but not obsessor and a straight-up mayo hater, I say get the straight lobster. But I get that I'm the weird one here. Be prepared: they're slammed so service can come off a little brash but you can tell they're all on their toes working hard - I certainly didn't mind. Also, the mudslides were a bit too strong for me, but if you're a bigger drinker than me (and you probably are), then you'll likely just think it tastes like boozy ice cream. The Raw Bar is in the Popponesset Marketplace, across the street from the Popponesset Inn. The lobster roll is justly famous. At $23, it's expensive but large enough for two people. The only lobster roll I've found comparable is at the Chart Room in West Falmouth. In late summer and fall, this one can be ordered with huge slices of beefsteak tomato instead of the usual Portuguese sweetbread. In recent years, the Raw Bar has offered reduced price twin boiled lobster on Wednesday nights, an even better reason to visit. Owner Barbados Bob has responded to the extreme popularity of his lobster roll by offering it at his wine bar, a more refined, less garrulous establishment across the crushed quahog shell path from the bar. read more

But I want to emphasize as a result of bad reviews, that this very hidden haunt is a great time, met some lovely Popponset neighbors and he was kind enough to give us the low-down. Grabbed a seat at the bar and had the quintessential of Cape Cod nights, with Sam summer, oysters and a split lobster roll. Make sure you have GPS and some patience, but it is well worth the effort. read more

Went here the Saturday after 4th of July weekend with a group of 8 people. As you might assume, it was PACKED and the seating is super limited. We arrived around 8 p.m. hoping it would be easier to get a table off peak time. It still took about 45 minutes, but it was WORTH IT! I got the snow crab cake as an appetizer, which was delicious. You could definitely taste the crab, not just bread crumbs. Then I split the famous lobster roll. This is not for the faint of heart. It's HUGE and full of lobster, as just about everyone else here said. Definitely worth the $25 price tag, especially since you're getting two meals out of it. The area around here is great too, lots of shops and they had a summer concert series while we were there. Definitely enough to keep you enteratined while you and your group wait to pounce on a table. read more

"Amaze-balls!" We literally drove over an hour, just to come here. The shops surrounding this place are very "cape cod" and super cute. The lobster roll is huge! The littlenecks on the halfshell were definitely over priced, but the for the amount of lobster you get on this roll, it is definitely worth the 25 dollars. It was a little confusing to navigate the restaurant, but they have large picnic tables in the back and you basically join other people at a table wherever there's room- so if your shy (like myself) it might be slightly uncomfortable to just walk up to a table and sit down. Luckily, there was an empty table, so I was able to avoid the awkwardness. The service was quick, there were signs everywhere to not use your cell phone- but I was googling some things on my phone and no one stopped me, so I don't really know how strict that rule is. Overall, would definitely come here again. read more

Don't be confused between the original Raw Bar at the Popponeset Marketplace and "The Lure Raw Bar" on the beach. They have nothing to do with each other. The original Raw Bar is famous for its expensive but "best in New England" lobster roll, the Wednesday night Lobster special and other seafood treats. You eat off picnic tables in a fenced off enclosure. It's a Raw Bar after all. The owner's sister restaurant across the path serves mostly fried seafood and is fine with you buying from either place and eating together. He even has no objection if the kids prefer pizza from yet another place in the marketplace. The Lure is a bar on the beach, has music on weekends, poor food (from a very limited menu) but a killer location. read more

Very crowded when we visited. The service was a bit sporadic, but our servers were very nice. Unfortunately the food was not great. We had raw clams, oysters, and a bucket of steamers ($30!). The clams were okay, but the oysters were really not very good. The meat was kinda mangled on the half shell. You can tell whoever opened the oysters didn't do a good job of shucking. The outside of the oysters was also a bit grimy. I know it's only the outside of the shell, but you do still put your mouth on it to eat the oyster, and I think a quick scrub is pretty standard practice in restaurants, at least all the ones I've been to in New England. Then comes the steamers. At $30 for 2 lb, it's not particularly cheap, but it's a vacation spot, so whatever. Firstly, you can tell some of the clams had broken shells (like, shattered in pieces). If the shells were broken before they were cook, there's a fair chance that the clams were dead on arrival. Not taking my chances on those. Secondly, these were ridiculously sandy. I've cooked and eaten steamers before. I know they live in the sand, and are quite sandy as a result, but this is ridiculous. I think each clam probably had a solid gram of sand in there. No amount of broth dipping (which, by the way, was also sandy in of itself) could get rid of the grits. Upon inquiry, I found out the steamers weren't allowed to spit out the sand in clean water overnight, which in my experience is absolutely necessary for these guys. Thankfully, our waitress was very kind to take the steamers off our bill. For that, I give the establishment 2 stars instead of 1. read more

The Raw Bar at Popponesset Marketplace (a group of shops, restaurants near the Popponesset Inn) is everything you may have heard: excellent lobster roll ($28 in 2016), crowded on weekends, sometimes so noisy you won't hear your reservation being called, pretty good service otherwise. The price of the Raw Bar's lobster roll is about twice what others charge and you get twice as much lobster meet. It's a dish for two. Loved it. You have to come to grips with the fact that you can pay a lot for very good food in a most casual setting. You may wind up seated with another family at the outdoor tables, which is a chance to chat up someone else about the Cape. read more

Went back to the Raw Bar after a great experience last summer. I was a little bit hesitant after reading some of the reviews about the staff and owners. The service was pleasant and we did not experience any issues. The big disappointment was that the $28 lobster rolls seemed considerably smaller than last summer. That being said, they were quite tasty. Also, they have added a hot buttered lobster roll in addition to the mayo laced one. This was a welcome addition, but the roll should have been buttered and grilled or toasted before the meat was put in. Overall, not a bad experience. My dining partner said that for $28 per person she would have preferred table service at a nice restaurant. read more

Well, even though I wasn't a lobster fan, I was for this. This was crazy. This was my first lobster roll, and it did literally ruin the other ones I had on our trip. It's down this small road south of Mashpee; I thought I took the wrong turn because we were heading down what looked to be a private subdivision. But we knew we were in the right place because there was all of a sudden a crowded parking lot in the middle of a small town shopping plaza. Ambiance: whatever, it's a bar. It was way too crowded, so we actually took it back to the place we stayed at. We could have sat somewhere, but the weather was turning cool already so that's ok. They are pretty much known for their gigantic lobster roll. Now, I didn't know what gigantic was, but literally it was like someone overfilled a french roll to the gills with probably 2/3 chunks of lobster, 1/3 pieces (so probably not lobster) and some tasty mayo-sauce. When we took it back, I decided to push the overflowing lobster onto some bread we had already; that took up another two slices of bread. But yeah that was good. Tasty and filling. Lobster pieces were all good, nothing weird or crunchy or anything odd. You aren't going to find anything like that in CA, on the west coast, or probably anywhere outside of New England. A little pricey ($25) but that's ok. That was pretty sweet. read more

Went here twice in the past week while on a vacation. First time I would've given 5 stars, while the second was more deserving of 3 stars purely on a service standpoint. The first time was mid week at about 2 pm, so as may be expected it was a little dead. Service was great either way. The second visit was yesterday and they were went on a wait while we were dining. Food speed was about what you would expect for a raw bar. Drinks and end service were lacking. We had a difficult time getting our waitress a few times. The biggest issue was when some of the oyster juices were spilled on the seat directly next to one of us. The waitress quickly apologized but made no effort to clean the mess and disappeared quickly. It was extremely rude overall. Food quality was decent. All of the raw food and streamers were good. The famous lobster roll got mixed reviews from the group. I have been going to the Raw Bar for over 40 years! A wonderful treat! The lobster rolls WERE spectacular! This is absolutely no longer the case. They are now filled with finely shredded, tasteless lobster (no tail meat at all) and also filled with spongey chopped lobster claw. No lobster pieces...just fine shreds. The picture of the lobster roll on the website IS A LIE!!!! This is such disrespect to Bob who owned the Raw Bar for decades and its devoted patrons. Huge disappointment and false advertising. NOT friendly at all. the 2 bouncers outside were the happiest employees there. did I mention it's hot in there? and really crowded once it fills with 10-15 people. so, claustrophobic too. $15.75 for half dozen little necks?! and, they came warm. and I was told that the place my kids were dining in-a cafe directly across from the bar-had the cocktail sauce. after waiting nearly 30 minutes for what i was told would be "it'll be ready in a few!" thanks! We got 2 lobster rolls on recommendation from a friend and, as promised, they were huge! Each was $35. They did not have much flavor, unfortunately, since it was pure lobster (maybe with some mayo?).
