Horrible!!!! The only reason they even get one star is because you have to give a star rating in order to post a review (perhaps the one star can be for the beer on tap) ... Stopped in after a long drive from Galveston and super disappointed. Menu boast things they don't deliver.... We ordered the filet Mignon pizza which was on the menu described as: Basil Pesto, Bacon, Mozzarella, Gorgonzola, Caramelized Onion, Sautéed Beef Tenderloin, and a Balsamic Drizzle. In stead we got a pizza with steak on only one side with a few stray pieces of steak on the other half and the entire pizza had only a tiny bit of "caramelized" onions which were not actually caramelized.... but clear translucent cooked with no evidence of caramelization and limited cheese on the steak-less half. Our starter arrived after our pizza arrived because she forgot to put the order in but that wasn't the bad part (mistakes happen). The bad part was that the oysters were described as pan fried when in actuality they were deep fried in old deep frying oil (there is NO mistaking that taste. It tastes just like it smells ). Beer on tap was good- no complaints. The lemon Martini was made with bottled lemon juice... #Fail We went because we looked at review....which looked good... maybe we ordered the wrong things, on the wrong day, with the wrong cook ‍ If it were just one thing then we'd try again but 'eh..... not going again. We kind of love this place. It's just a small downtown pub-like restaurant but everything about it is very good. We've been a dozen times and tried half the menu and never been disappointed. The service is prompt, friendly, and well informed. Favorites include the French onion soup (although I wish they'd spread the cheese over the soup like most places, not just on the bread), the pulled pork sandwich, and the burger sliders. It's a fun venue in downtown Conroe. There was a live band on a Tuesday night, election night. So a lot of electricity in the air. I Ordered the pork enchilada.They were nicely presented but lacked in taste. The side of black beans was rather lack luster. The enchiladas came highly recommended by the waitress but tasted a bit salty and had an all day cooked pot roast consistency. The Hatch green chili sauce wasn't green, more of a brown look, and wasn't that fresh tasting. I'd come back because it's a unique place, but would try a different food item. read more

I almost want to keep this place a secret, but a gift like this should be shared! There are very few restaurants in downtown Conroe and none except Red Brick even come close to being trendy. Thus, Red Brick Tavern is one of a kind. The menu is awesome from top to bottom! Appetizers to try: Thai Sweet Chili Wings, a great spin on classic wings; sweet with a hint of spice and the sesame seeds really bring the flavor home. Also, if you have a hungry group, try the Pulled Pork Nachos! The chips and cheese are pretty basic, but it's a huge serving and the Pulled Pork with their tomato salsa is divine. They have great soup and salads if you're looking for a quick and fresh Lunch. Try the wedge salad or the Drunken French Onion Soup! If you're there for dinner or dining with friends, I recommend sharing a Bob Marley pizza, complete with jerk bbq pork and pineapple salsa!! This restaurant also hosts live high quality muscians. The location is nice, but a bit small. We've been twice. Once for dinner, and my husband and I loved it. It was perfect for a quick date night, with a live band (though I didn't go for that). This was an unplanned visit, after seeing a play at Creighton Theatre with my former girlfriend. I REALLY, enjoyed my visit. They had a guitarist playing on the small stage area; He was fantastic! We arrived as the kitchen was closing but the bartender offered pizza, if we wanted. We did and the pizza was very good. We both remarked how good it was. The place proudly and prominently informs guests that the place is "A listening & whisper room." We left when the performer did and again we both remarked that it was an above average experience. Why not five stars? The place is Very Small. I imagine that it will be very difficult to get a seat as we did. I gather that they sell tickets for seats... Not sure. read more

We took a long weekend out of town for my birthday. For my birthday dinner, we were looking for somewhere fun and delish to go! Yelp searches showed us that this tavern might just be the place to go! It was hopping when we got there, but we were lucky to get a tall table next to the bar. We started with the Drunken French Onion Soup made with dark beer and topped with a ciabatta crouton and smoked gouda cheese. This was really good soup. It's definitely something to warm you up on a cold night! I ordered Bobby's Shepherds Pie braised leg of lamb with vegetables topped with a horseradish cheddar potato crust. I was excited to try this considering it's actually made with lamb, but I was filled with disappointed when I did... It was super greasy which made it more like a soup! It has all the potential to be good; however, it missed the mark for sure! The boy ordered the Filet Mignon Pizza with basil pesto, bacon, mozzarella, smoked gouda, caramelized onion, sautéed beef tenderloin, and a balsamic Drizzle. I wish I had ordered this! This is a really good idea for a pizza! Adding the gouda in place of the gorgonzola just added to the flavor! This hit the mark for sure. The server brought us a Birthday Cheesecake with Strawberry sauce to celebrate! I had taken a quick break and it magically appeared when I got back lol! It was a huge slice that was thick and good! If we lived in the area, we probably wouldn't be back. The prices are pretty high... $16 for the greasy shepherd's pie and $6.50 for the small crock of soup seemed a steep. Used to be a top spot in Conroe. Haven't been in there in a while. I don't know who's running it now but holy moly. Ordered the steak off their online menu., just like I did last week. (You know, just a handful of days ago) This time it takes forever to get here, with the door dash girl texting me the whole time. It's cold and I'm missing half of my food. No salad that I paid extra for, and no potatoes. Oh, and 4 little stalks of asparagus. When I call I get someone that courteously tells me, "Well we don't even have steak on the menu I had them make that special just for you" As if I'm supposed to be grateful because I ordered something off the advertised menu on the world wide internet's? Just like I did last week? Did y'all take potatoes and salad off the menu, too? I ask to speak to the manager and she claims she is the manager. I'm thinking 'you're the manager and you don't know you have an online menu? Alrighty then. I'm begging to see root of the problem' That's a cool trick to charge somebody something, then tell them they're actually lucky to get anything at all when they call to see what happened. A better idea is pick up the phone and tell the customer you don't sell steaks in your restaurant anymore. And you might want to revise the menu that you're advertising and charging people's credit card with. I'm fairly certain if I treated my customers like this I wouldn't be in business long. But I guess I should just feel lucky to even get a cold steak and 4 pieces of asparagus. Then above all else, the manager tells me no biggie just complain to door dash and get them to refund my money. That's kind of not the point, for one. We always tend to eat at the same places, so we decided to try something new tonight. With a 3 year old, it's sometimes hard to find places with food a toddler is willing to eat, and we saw Red Tavern is family friendly. The wait staff was good - we were greeted promptly and drink orders were taken right away. Entertainment was good and our toddler really enjoyed watching the Citrus Duo. The atmosphere was very relaxed prior to the entertainment. Nothing was very exciting, and it was a place like any another. The food was okay.. There was not a kids menu, so we did have to purchase an adult meal for our toddler. We got chicken strips which were pretty good. My husband got shredded chicken tacos and I got the Tejano Burger. The Red Brick Tavern is located in historic downtown Conroe. Downtown Conroe has that small-town feel people look for on a weekend getaway or a short trip to Texas. The Red Brick Tavern is the best of both worlds - small-town feel with big city tastes! The Red Brick Tavern has a casual feel from the moment you walk through the door! They house awesome live music so the stage is to the left. The art and photography that embrace the walls alone is worth the stop. My hat is tipped to the brilliant decorator. Everyone we had met here in Conroe had recommended The Red Brick Tavern as one of the top spots to visit. When we got there, I could tell why, right away. In Houston and other major cities, there are a number of competitors for the type of cuisine and atmosphere you get here. But in Conroe? This place is as unique as it gets. Gotta love it! We saddle on up to the bar and order a couple of craft beers. By recommendation, we tried a Stash IPA, which was very similar to the West Coast IPAs I have grown to love. Very clean finish with mad hops! I will take another please... We ordered some unique starters. Listen to this... Bacon Fried Oysters. Yessir, Fresh, Pan-Fried Gulf Oysters, served with Horseradish Dijon. I could sit here and enjoy these oysters and drink craft beer all night. Literally. We also sampled the Thai Sweet Chili Wings: delectable wings tossed with Thai Sweet Chili Sauce and Sesame Seeds. Sweet and spicy wings cooked to perfection - just too good to pass up! This is obviously another perfect match with a number of craft beers served here. I suggest you ask the server or bartender for the perfect beer to pair. The entrees arrived and the table was filling up real quick. We went with a nice selection to get a good feel of the place and, of course, try everything that sounded interesting. The Zydeko Burger, a large burger with Cheddar, Andouille Sausage, Fried Oysters, Onion Strings, and Remoulade, was definitely a unique spin on a Cajun burger. Different is an understatement. I know some folks just want a traditional burger and I love those too, but this is not that. Ha! If it sounds good to you, then you will be happy! We decided to pair our pizza with another craft beer. Do we see a trend here? We decided on a Stash IPA, a Top Texas Craft Beer based out of Austin (Independence Brewing). I can't wait to pay them a visit as their beer is tops on my list. A great choice if you can get it on tap. Now for the pizza, my favorite of the night! The Pizza Mignon was built with Basil Pesto, bacon, mozzarella, Gorgonzola, caramelized onion, sautéed beef tenderloin, and a Balsamic Drizzle. Each flavor served its purpose and they all worked together for a rich, yet delicate, result. Pizza and beer... two of my favorite words! I enjoyed the Stash IPA so much that I decided to go with another Independence Brewing Co favorite - the Convict Hill. It's funny how yummy this Oatmeal Stout tastes when you drop a couple of scoops of Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream in it. Convict Hill is the perfect dessert by itself, but with a bit of homemade vanilla ice cream... it becomes just criminal! Needless to say, I found a new home away from home. I can't see myself visiting Conroe without a stop at the Red Brick Tavern to enjoy some delicious craft beers along with an array of good eats. I finally had the collard greens my buddy had been suggesting I try here for awhile. Before I tried them I had no idea how he could be so excited over greens. Then I tried them. HOLY HOLY!! A religious experience. Noises were emanating from my mouth involuntarily. The greens were not soggy as I have encountered before. They had texture and bite. The broth was a salty, bacony thing of beauty. I asked Chris at the bar if they had crusty bread and he toasted me some thin Chibata. Perfect! I'm hooked. It was a cold day and I asked Chris if they had hot chocolate so I could take my wife some when I picked her up from Conroe ISD where she was taking a class. His response says all you need to know about this place. He thought about for a second and replied "we have brownies." I see where he was going with that but I didn't take him up on it.
