PROS: Nice Ambiance Farm to Table produce CONS: ~Wobbly tables. We had 2 tables pushed together for a group and both tables were wobbly/uneven and WE kept trying to put things under the legs to stable them. ~Ordered a "hot" coffee drink and it came slightly warm, more on the cold side. Also, asked for whipped cream to be on the coffee drink and was told the restaurant doesn't have whipped cream (what full service restaurant does not have whipped cream? Odd)! ~Children ordered sprites and when they came they were very watered down because the sprite comes from the gun at the bar. They do not carry any canned soda. Beware any sodas ordered will be watery. ~Switched children's drinks to Shirley Temples so they would be a bit more "flavorful". They got 3 Shirley Temples. When asked for re-fills, we were told they had run out of grenadine. So, on a Saturday night, they had enough grenadine on hand for 3 drinks?! ~Food server was friendly and gave a good effort, although, she was inexperienced and under trained. She did not have a a good grasp on the menu or menu items. It was a real struggle when asking her questions about ingredients. We were also her only table (11 people) yet was hard to find her at times. ~We had 6 children. The restaurant has some items for them to play with (etch-a-scetch, crayons, books, tic-tac-toe, etc.), Hostess & Food Server never offered these items to them when they were seated. One of the adults of our group got up and went and got the items for them herself. ~One of the adults of our party has food restrictions. Food server and her went back and forth about making her a salad she could eat. She asked if they had iceberg or romaine lettuce. They did not. Finally, she just asked food server for a bowl of raw veggies and to leave out the mesculin. Food server returned and said, "we have baby kale" and she said okay to the baby kale thinking it would be the baby kale and the raw veggies. When the salad arrived, it was baby kale and a hard boiled egg! No raw veggies? She was also concerned it may not have even been baby kale at this point and was concerned to eat it due to the food restrictions. She told food server she didn't want the salad. We just assumed the $15 bowl of kale and 1 egg would be taken off the bill. It was not. Instead, the manager came over to explain it was in fact baby kale and that was about the extent of the conversation. So, basically, she paid $15 for a hard boiled egg, because that was all she ate. ~One of the children wanted the chicken wings. Options were "Spicy or BBQ." He chose BBQ. When it came, he had a hard time eating them because he mouth was burning....the BBQ sauce is spicy, but the way it is on the menu it seems like the BBQ is the non-spicy option. ~One person ordered the "Vegetable Pot Pie." It was very bland. She looked for salt/pepper and there was none on our table. She looked at other unseated tables behind us to see if she could just grab it from there since food server was not around, but they did not have salt/pepper either. Isn't it just standard to have salt/pepper on tables in a restaurant? ~Another one of the children ordered the "kids mac-n-cheese." It comes with bacon on top and the bacon was burnt. ~Another person from our party ordered the burger. It comes with a Brioche bun. She asked for any other bread besides brioche. When it arrived, it was brioche. She sent it back. ~Lastly, the MENU IS VERY LIMITED. For dinner, there was alot of sandwiches. As far as entrees, there were no pasta dishes, 1 vegetarian option, 1 fish option, 1 steak option (that comes with fries). They could definitely add some more dinner entrees and higher end options. I literally kept turning the menu over thinking I was only seeing only 1/2 the menu, but that was not the case. ~Children were never given "kids menus". Again, hostess did not give them (or us) kids menus. We had to ask food server for them. ~The children were not given straws with their drinks. When we couldn't find food server, adult went to bar to get the straws herself. Bartender was slightly unhelpful and adult had to just lean over and get the straws herself and take back to children! Unfortunately, from beginning to end, it was a terrible experience. To summarize, the hostess should have given children toys and kids menus. Whoever put tables together should have noticed they were wobbly and missing salt/pepper. Bartender/Owners need to be aware that the coffee is not hot and make sure stock is available (grenadine and whipped cream). Owners need to expand the menu and take off items when people are unhappy with food and not charge someone $15 for a hard boiled egg. Food servers need to be more knowledgeable about the menu and the food ingredients and not have to keep leaving and asking someone else for the answers. Basic items like salt/pepper & straws should not be something patrons are searching for on their own. read more

This is a review of the bar. Food is good but they do not know how to manage a bar for any sort of business. Bartenders barely looked up, being far more concerned with the service bar aspect. It literally took 15-20 minutes to get a drink, and that was before it got really busy. Basically gave up and didn't bother even trying to get another drink. Went to the Redding Roadhouse after its re-opening on 1/31/2018. Nice atmosphere.... We had 5 glasses of wine and asked the waitress if we could get the bottle price for the extra glass. She checked with her manager for approval and she came back and said you would've had to purchased the bottle up front. Sorry. SERIOUSLY... Atmosphere and Service a 5. Our meal consisted of buffalo cauliflower, which had no taste, boring nachos, something that was supposed to be bean chili, and flank steak, which was very salty. Today Saturday 6:00 was the worst- will not come back again. Bar is full of babies first of all- as far as I know not allowed in bars in CT. Apparently this place was closed for a long time and just reopened...the decor is colonial in nature, warm and homey...there was a very light crowd and the service staff was very attentive...I had the French onion soup which was rich and delicious, with plenty of cheese, followed by the baby back ribs...they were good but not something that made me gobble then down. A Saturday night before Easter and the place was only half filled. Second visit since the change of ownership. For a change of pace I ordered the chicken pot pie. Very large fluffy crust but hardly any filling, maybe half a cup at the most. Ended up leaving about 2/3's of the crust because there wasn't enough gravy or ingredients to go around. My wife had the scallops over risotto. Nice large scallops but coated with a very salty crust. I ended up eating some of them because she wouldn't and I wasn't anywhere near full. The other couple's french fries and sweet potato fries were also heavily salted. Service was friendly and efficient, but at those prices I'd have to think twice about returning. read more

We were so delighted with Sunday night BBQ! We tried a number of mains and sides and ordered enough for meals during the week. We shared the prime rib meal. Prime rib was excellent quality, tender, good seasoning, came with au jus and horseradish sauce, with two sides. Red potatoes generous amount and side salad is extra fresh baby spinach from Holbrook Farms and excellent pickled red onion. Harvest salad also included apples, walnuts, feta and tomatoes. I like the vinaigrette. Greens so fresh I served salad again the next day. Coleslaw was crisp and freshly made, not too sweet. Fresh to serve the next day too. We also ordered pulled pork, beef brisket and a whole chicken to serve during week. My husband loves all the seasoning and he isn't usually a BBQ fan. The pulled pork is juicy with crispy bits. The brisket is beef candy- I love it! It's tender and sweet. Whole chicken came cut up which is a help and it's tender and juicy. I plan to order every Sunday night! read more

So happy that this place has reopened. Grew up nearby, lived/live nearby and has always been a good go-to for last minute "where are we going tonight" outings. Went for lunch for first time in years shortly after they reopened this spring and had a great lunch. Went back with family for late dinner last week and sat outside. Was excellent. Server was a little loopy but that didn't bother us as all. Outside patio area is great. All the things that needed updating have been and the stuff that should change hasn't (the train!). I almost canceled our reservation when I read some of these reviews, and I'm glad I didn't. We were a party of seven this past Saturday and the hostess and servers were very friendly, the food was very good and the drinks were terrific. There were two very large private parties going on while we were there, but our service never suffered. Our server warned us that our cocktails might be slow due to high volume, but they came quicker than most restaurants send them out on a slow night, and they were really good! We thoroughly enjoyed our night and I was back there today to pick up the debit card that my husband left, and it's a really nice bar area. I will definitely return , not just for dinner, but also to have a drink at the bar. read more

very disappointing. first of all, I tried 3 days in a row to make a reservation at various times during the day. Finally I got someone. We were seated right away and the waitress came for our drink order before we barely sat down or saw a drink menu. We ordered the skillet cornbread for an appetizer and the mac and cheese (for my grandson). The cornbread was a tiny slice so forget sharing it at the table. even for one person it was small. The mac and cheese didn't come out until dinner - with the waitress saying the computer screwed up and put it in as an entree and she didn't know why. It was just ok. The burgers were good and everyone at the table said the fries were over salted. Dessert was an indian pudding - basically spice cake with whipped cream. I will say the drinks were very good, but honestly, I wouldn't go there again. The dinner menu doesn't have a lot of selections. very disappointing. This was the worst dining experience we have had in a very long time! I have owned and operated several restaurants, and my husband travels throughout U.S. regularly for business, having many restaurant experiences weekly. We both ordered Chicken and Dumplings, for $23 per meal. Obviously, over priced to begin with. The dinner entree was appetizer portion, at best. Ultimately, that was a good thing because the taste of stale walk in refrigerator permeated the gnocchi dumplings. The leg meat chicken was obviously old and reheated, with the foul taste of leftover fowl. How this was allowed to leave the kitchen is beyond my understanding. Furthermore, in addition to burgers, there where only 5 or 6 dinner entrees on the menu, so how could the failure be this bad? All around failure on every level. Sorry to have to say this, but this level of bad is not by mistake. It indicates a lack of attention to your business. read more

My favorite restaurant!! Im a picky eater and everything I've ordered has been cooked correctly and tastes amazing. I love the atmosphere and all the history that comes with this place. Theres a tap room, dining room, patio bar, and upstairs with a pool table and bar to rent out for private parties. Theres also an outdoor area with a nice fire pit and benches. They have a bocce court thats open in the summer to play. The bathrooms are clean and the staff is friendly. The roadhouse has never disappointed me! read more

"Identity crisis" seems to be the most distinct way I can describe it. I've been to the Roadhouse a handful of times over many years, so have seen some of the changes over time. It was always cozy, family-friendly to eat, and then a decent bar scene. However, I think they've lost a lot of that charm now in favor of trying to turn into a trendy place. First of all, the menu looks like a decent range of options, more than your standard bar fare. So we were excited about that. But then the ids menu sticks to the run of the mill "chicken fingers, hamburger, plain pasta...". So we opted for a few apps to try a few things. While tasty, they were incredibly TINY portions for the amount they were charging. When you want to charge 12/14 bucks for an app, you better give some substance. The grilled octopus was nice but probably amounted to a single cut up tentacle. The bacon and farm eggs for 12 bucks was a half a slice of slab bacon with a single egg over a hash brown. The meatballs, which we got for the kids, were the tiny finger meatballs you see at super bowl parties. I was shocked how flippant they were about charging what they did for so little food. And while it was different, and ok, it did not know my socks off (expectations of what you pay for play a LARGE role in tastebuds). Then for meals, we had a couple of the dinner salads, which for 17 bucks I believe, my chinese chicken salad amounted to some shredded cabbage and a little pulled chicken. Completely plain, underseasoned chicken, and the only thing "chinese" about it was the dressing. Service was ok, about average, but didn't make up for the poor overall experience. So the bar scene may still be good, and maybe enough to grab a burger with a beer, but I would 1) not come back here with my kids, and 2) not come back here for a nice dinner with my wife. They are missing the demographic on both ends. You can get a better meal, better value, in a family atmosphere around here; AND you can also get a much better night-out type of dinner with just you and your significant other. Just be what you are and stop trying to pander to what is "in" right now. You're the Roadhouse, so do it well. read more

Went last night with Family. Had high hopes as the place was busy but found the menu to be pretty standard fare. The calamari was soggy. Fish and Chips was over-battered and over greasy. My son rated rated his burger a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. There are 3 to 4 other local places that he rates higher...and are a better price! Are the new owners simply unaware of the local great menus they are trying to compete with? Without improving the ho-hum menu and mediocre quality, I fear the underlying economics of the rent and other costs will lead to "deja vu all over again". read more

After 40 years of going to the Redding Road house for Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter as well as various times of the year, we were overwhelmed by our recent dinner for my wife's birthday. After being seated, unfortunately not where we requested in our reservation. We were given a menu on paper that didn't meet the recommendations that were on the website. We asked our hostess about the discrepancies between the website and their menu. The reply was that it was expensive and difficult to make updates. In any even we ordered and were happy with our meals. They were tasty and abundant. After our re guest for dessert the manageress came to the table and said we caused the waitperson duress sufficient to cause tears. This shocked us as we actually had thanked her beforehand for bringing us her dessert order with a candle in it. Unfortunately this restaurant is now off our list. We had hoped that this landmark had been resuscitated but not so. On our way home we passed the Lombardo's, Black Cat, the Barn Door and the Little Pub, all of which were packed full unlike the three or four cars at Redding Road House. Too bad. read more

I have been here over 20 times and every time it is wonderful. The new owners, staff, and chef are amazing. The steaks are always cooked perfectly, and the bernaise sauce is perfection. I definitely recommend making a reservation as they get packed on the weekends. The upstairs has been converted into an inviting lounge with a fireplace, leather chairs, and a pool table. I have had almost everything on the menu and my favorites are the cuban cigars, the charcuterie plate which tastes like it's sliced to order and all the steaks. Seriously, I haven't had a single experience that wasn't wonderful or a meal that I didn't love. Although it's under the same roof as the previous owners, everything is better, and nothing is the same. Great to impress a date or to relax at with close friends. read more

I never write reviews about restaurants because I rarely have bad experiences but because this was one of those rare experience, I needed to. I took my daughter to the Redding Roadhouse for Thanksgiving. It was just the two of us because my mom was in the hospital and we promised we'd bring her leftovers when we went to visit her that evening. My daughter was home for college and hadn't eaten a good meal in some time by the looks of her so I decided to take her for, what it thought, would be a nice turkey dinner. We had all gone out last year to the Cobbs Mill Inn and enjoyed the most delicious Thanksgiving dinner and would have gone back for sure but it closed! Anyway after waiting almost 45 mins for a reserved 6:00 seating, we were sat at a nice table for two but waited an additional 15 mins to be waited on for water and other drinks. Those came after quite some time as well. When it was time to order we each picked a different entre and appetizer. She got the pumpkin ravioli and the soup and I got a salad and a Bri pastry thing. It was terrible. There were so many uncomplimentary flavors- it was overwhelming and not tasty. My salad was good and so were my daughter's soup and raviolis. Then our entres came out. Wow what a disappointment. We were expecting fluffy mashed potatoes and stuffing and ham for her and turkey for me. Well first of all, there was not enough potatoes or stuffing and the stuffing had a nasty spice in it- barely edible. My turkey had the same nasty spice on it and it was very dark and tough. The gravy wasn't tasty either. Then my daughter's ham had the sweetest taste. It was clearly pineapple but it wasn't simply a hint of pineapple. It tasted as if the entire pineapple was cooked on top of it and it was coated with a dark syrupy sauce. It was not edible. When the waiter came to clear our table, he didn't even ask us if we wanted to take it home. We clearly didn't eat it. Now I'm a single mom and can't always afford to go out and spend over a $100 on dinners, but I made it possible for this special night but should have gone to Boston Market. We decided because of this poor experience, we will always stay in for a holiday and cook ourselves or take out and eat in. We would enjoy a better meal and save a ton of money at that! Stopped in for lunch at noon recently along with two companions. The large dining area was empty except for two other tables--and it remained that way the ENTIRE time we were there. We are not the type to linger and take up space when there is a line at the door or during a rush, and all three of us are always nothing but courteous and respectful toward restaurant staff. Since it was dead quiet we took our time relaxing and chatting a bit after the plates were cleared, but the hostess/manager clearly did not like this for some reason and made us all very uncomfortable by making it blatantly obvious she wanted us to hit the road. We had not been there a full two hours when she stomped loudly past our table a couple of times, pausing to glare at us. Very peculiar behavior especially for a place under new ownership/management. The food was nothing remarkable. The Chef salad's greens were not fresh, and had an odd combination including olives and raspberry vinaigrette. The shredded cheese was obviously out of a bag and was dry from cellulose. Waitstaff did not check up on us or offer dessert or coffee. We still left a tip despite the overall unpleasant experience and left quietly. It was our first and last visit under this management. read more

Today was our first (and likely last ) time at Redding Roadhouse. We heard it changed Ownership and saw good reviews - so we went. Also, we had a gift certificate that we got at a local Charity Silent Auction. the place was nice and cozy - but not busy at all. The service was polite, but very slow. Our appetizers (Lobster Bisque, Beef Tips and Shredded pork tortillas were ok, but quite bland). My husband had the 10oz filet, which was good and I had the 3 piece Charcuterie & Fromage with Prosciutto (Dry), Sopressata (weird taste - old?) and the Machego (good) - overall ok'ish experience with the ambiance minus quality and taste of the food (definitely overpriced for what you get) - for a date night (we have a 1 year old - so date night doesn't happen a lot to begin with...) When it was time for the check, we handed in our gift certificate. The waitress came back with it after 1 min and said the owners would not honor it b/c 4 months ago ownership has changed - what??! We were taken aback and confused: The store name did not change and the new owner is providing the same services that the old owner did. Wouldn't the new owner assume the liabilities of a business as well as acquiring its assets? No apologies, the manager did not show - weird and passive way of dealing with a situation like this. Will put in a call with BBB to see if there's any re-course and certainly will NOT recommend this place! read more

Very good food, nice atmosphere inside and out. Only bad was other customer's unruly kids running and screaming all over the place. Apparently these customers are regulars and use the restaurant as their personal play park, about 8 kids running wild disturbing everyone else, parents refused to intervene. Staff tried to quiet the kids to no avail. I'd like to go again but sans brats and inconsiderate regulars. read more
