We went last summer and had such a lovely time on the outside patio I recommended to other people. This time we were completely underwhelmed. Menu still seemed great, but food was sort of mediocre. My daughter said her chicken and waffles tasted like the waffle had come out of a package. My eggs tasted fine, but weren't what I ordered. But after waiting 50 minutes for food, I wasn't waiting for the right ones. Heard other tables also questioning when food would arrive. Server seemed put out when I asked for more coffee. Super disappointed because I really had liked this place. Don't think I'd go back again. read more

Now opened under new management/owners. Came for lunch. Clam chowder was very flavorful but a little thin. (Served without crackers or accompaniment; Add more cream!). French onion soup looked tasty. I will try that next time. Buffalo cauliflower appetizer was well received as was the philly steak and cheese spring roll. Hamburger was good but asked for cooked medium but served well done +. One of my dislikes: DON'T serve iced tea or soda in a small mixed drink glass!!!! It looks cheap and is totally dependent on an attentive wait staff for refills. We had to ask! Great atmosphere. Worst evening at a restaurant Arrived last night with our party of 5 for our 8:00 reservation. Was told that they had given our table away- no excuse. We objected as to why offer reservations if they will not be honored. Finally we got a table in the back and were told that we have the best waitress they had to make up for the mix up. Turns out she less about the menu than we did and knew nothing about the wine list of which we had been assured she excelled with. Service was terrible, parts of order forgotten, drinks not filled in a timely fashion The only saving grace about the evening was the band - Charisma - they were great Oh the food- salad was bland snd came with no dressing, forgot one of our starters and one persons entree- disappointing to say the least It turned out to be one of the worst experiences - shall not return Would not recommend read more

Stopped in for dinner on a beautiful Tuesday night and sat outside. Service was prompt. We started with nachos as an app and they were so unique and delicious! AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. Made a reservation for 2; when we arrived there was no hostess. The hostess desk sign stated "Go in the dining room and someone will help you." Stood in the dining room for several minutes. No one attended to us. Finally stopped a server and said we had a reservation. Was told "You cld sit out there (the patio) or in the bar if you want." There were essentially no tables; why make a reservation if it is not going to be honored? Finally found a small 2 top in the bar. Service was TERRIBLE..took 10 minutes to get a bar order. Came here with my family for Easter brunch. I had been spoiled last year finding a great restaurant with tons of choices and a spread. This year my sister chose Redding Roadhouse and what a total disappointment. Their selection was super limited - a few chafing dishes, some soggy waffles and 2 sad looking salads. For the price was not impressed at all. On top of it their mimosas were awful. How can you screw up a mimosa? Well it's basically some cheap OJ with a splash of awful brut (not saying this is what they did but it's what it tasted like). Crossing this place off for future visits. read more

I went to the Roadhouse this evening with my Mother-in-law & was so excited as it used to be a favorite before she moved away. Unfortunately, it was NOT good....not even close. I had a house salad that had unripe tomatoes on it followed by Chicken Milinase that was mediocre at best. My Mother-in-law had the Salmon that supposedly had Spanish Rice which was bland w/ no taste & the veg were basic squash, broccoli & carrots, however the salmon was fairly tasty. Stick with burgers and bar food. Invariably the person taking the carry out order will mess up the order as she did mine more than once. If the menu is in transition she will invariably be clueless whether that which is on the menu is actually being served. read more

I enjoyed a nice casual dinner on the patio last night. It is worth a drive as the atmosphere is perfect for a warm summer night. The outside space is open, light and people are friendly. The menu is more limited than before, but the food is good. During our current COVID times, many restaurants are trying to work in a more stripped down format. Manager informed of Bug in food and she DID NOT address us until I asked for her. We moved to Redding 2 years ago and first went to the Roadhouse when it was under the previous management. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service. However since it has reopened under new ownership, I have been less then impressed. The fait accompli occurred this evening. We were dining outside on a rather temperate evening. My sister ordered a salad and when she was nearly finished, she found a live worm in the salad. We informed the waitress who was sympathetic, yet the restaurant offered no formal acknowledgement or recompense. When I spoke with the manager after our meal, she informed me that she was aware but essentially it was my risk sitting outside. (Despite our table being completely covered by umbrellas). She apologized for not speaking with us despite a half empty restaurant. In addition the portions were child size despite the adult pricing. It is a sad end to a community staple. read more

They really should do something about the kitchen. Food is way below good: bulky portions of poorly cooked "pub" fare (I guess that's what they try for ... pub grub) but I don't think there's a trained cook anywhere nearby. Had to wait over 35 minutes for food that was inedible. I ordered the fried chicken, and everyone knows that is a 1/2 chicken... breast, wing and leg. Well... I got 2 legs and a strange side dish that had some kind of croutons that were hard as a rock- not fries or anything like that... but a strange crouton mix. Then the manager made some kind of ridiculous excuse about the chef presentation where I had to laugh, and she failed to realize what fried chicken actually IS! Skip this place. So we went to have dinner.. ordered crab dip.. it should have been crab soup. You needed to eat with a spoon it was so runny.. for $14.00 not much crab and half full . Then I had a Cobb Salad.... they forgot the blue cheese, beets and bacon...( as was described in menu). When I showed the bar tender the salad he did 'fix' to menu description. Was very happy to see the Roadhouse open again, after a couple of subpar years. However, after 4 months this place still has a ways to go. My wife and I dropped $75 in there on drinks and burgers. Burger #1 was ordered as PLAIN with no trimmings. It arrived with lettuce, tomato and onion. Burger #2 was ordered medium cooked with bacon, mayo, onion & lettuce. It arrived well-done with tomato, lettuce, onion but NO bacon or mayo. While the meat had the potential for great taste, these smallish botched burgers missed the mark. This is not McDonalds. This should not happen at these prices. We drove 45 minutes each way and we'd have been better off driving 5 minutes to Outback for steaks, desserts and drinks for the same price. read more

Mother's Day Brunch was an overpriced triumph of quantity over quality. Lots of food in steam tables included soggy Eggs Benedict, heavy Pancakes, tasteless chicken and pasty desserts. Service was slow, pricing was high, and to add insult to injury there was an added 20% service charge for an expensive buffet meal. I won't be going there again. read more

Dinner with our 8 yr old daughter and got there before the sat night crowd a while back. Was seated at table in front of fireplace that was just cleaned. Soot from fireplace cleaning all over chair and ruined my pants. No manager showed and they questioned it even though it was all over the area. Seated at another table and ordered chicken pot pie that had way too much vinegar or some spice as it was horrible. Mentioned the flavor and was told thats how they make it. Never tasted like any pot pie I've ever had so perhaps they should mention that on menu to set expectations. Still no manager. We stayed for rest of meal and dessert regardless. Had to give name/number to server to give to manager to call to discuss issue with soot even though i requested a manager(Someone actually found the paper with my name on it on a road in bethel a month later and actually called to tell me lol). I called several times - no manager called back, wife called several times - same result. No manager or owner. We were always polite during and after. Finally gave up and took the loss on the pants with no idea whether or not this place actually has managers. read more

This place has been through a few changes in ownership recently and although I liked the previous owner's menu better, I have to say that The Redding Roadhouse is better-than-average tavern food. The description says "Diners" but that couldn't be further from the truth. Think more like upscale country tavern. Very good food and drink. read more

Just when you think you've seen it all, some dimwit will prove you wrong. It's a shame, as most of the bar staff there are lovely. We've always got on so well with Danielle, Lindsey, Steve and Dana but said 'dimwit' barman proved he had no idea of how business works. Far from 'the customer always being right' this guy thinks it's all about him. In all my years of going to bars, never have I been asked 'Would you like to leave now ?' when asking for a beer to be topped up, as I don't like a large head on a pint. Staggered, I told him what I thought of him at which point he grabbed my pint (which we had already paid for) and poured it down the sink. You see what this dimwit obviously doesn't understand is that the 25 cents it would have cost to top up the pint is going to be pretty inconsequential compared to the $40/50 my friend and I have spent every week at the bar for the last several months, which the bar will no longer receive. I wonder whether the owners are aware of the dimwit's idea of how bar staff's main aim should be to keep customers happy. Apparently the 25 years of experience this guy crows about haven't taught him much about the principal point of his job. This place has gone out of business several times over the last few years and this sort of behavior makes me think that it won't be too long before that happens again. read more

Went for brunch today, and was met with a buffet of very well selected and well-prepared dishes. Nothing was "run of the mill." And instead of overkill, there was just a lot of good food on offer. The chefs didn't miss a single beat; the Ceasar dressing was a highlight, as well as the pan-fried chicken cutlets. read more

What's going on? It was never a "fine dining" place, but had a truly awful meal there last few visits. And I KNOW my vodka and what they served me was NOT it! Even though they charged me for my brand.... And although there are a few fantastic long-term servers there, they have some extremely unhelpful people, especially answering the, "like", phone.... get a mature person who knows your menu please! Years ago RR was a reliably comfy, cozy, decent, predictable place. We we there for lunch. First their beer menu didn't have half the beers listed. We had two young kids with us but we're never given kids menus, we had to ask. We ordered apps and soup plus meals. It took an hour and 15 minutes to get them, and they were wrong. Another 1( to get them right. There were only maybe 9 other parties in the whole place. Then they searched the food finally, not giving us any condiments for the burgers. The ribs were over cooked. It was horrible. The bill was 70.00 for two adults and two kids. For lunch. We have the waitress 100 and she brought us back 60.00 in change. We explained that she gave us back too much money and it was another 20 minutes to get it right. Never again. read more

We went to the Mother's Day brunch--what a disaster! Slow service (waited an hour for drinks) poor organization (had to walk outside around cords&puddles for our food--good thing it wasn't raining) and the food was lack-luster. Cold eggs and oily meats. I think management got greedy--too cramped for comfort! Clearly they were unprepared for the number of guests. Also for a buffet, there was a 20% tip included in the bill! It felt more like a hotel continental breakfast than a Mother's Day brunch. Not to mention the server spilt drinks on me and didn't comp us for it...
