We have come here many times over the years as it has seen a few different owners. I really like what they have done with this version. It seems cleaner and bit more refined. They added a built in very large table that looks like you can fit 10 people at. They also have a few other large tables. The menu has many things to choose The cheesesteak egg rolls were really good. They were a hit with the kids as well. The burgers were varied. The turkey burger looked good but my daughter got the hunter which is a bison burger with sautéed onions, lettuce, tomatoes and chipotle mayo. It was so juicy and she loved it. Warning it was a little messy. The fries were excellent -crispy on the outside with the skin still on and perfectly salted. I had one of my "normal" dishes. The chicken Milanese was very well done. The chicken was thinly pounded breaded and crispy. The arugula salad was great with a light dressing, carrots and pickled onions. Everything was so good we HAD to check out the desserts. HOLD ON! They have milk shakes on the dessert menu. Perhaps they should advertise those on the earlier menu. (This is a summer item only) A stack of chocolate chip cookies and a strawberry mild shake sounds like a plan. The stack of cookies was impressive. They are full size and fresh. Love coming here. The staff is friendly and the food is amazing. I would recommend sitting on the outdoor patio and listening to live music or eating here for Sunday brunch. It's hard to pick a favorite food but I would definitely try their wings, pretzel, steak or desserts. read more

Arrived on Sunday after they opened at noon. Sat down in the bar area and were completely ignored for 30 minutes while other tables orders were taken and food brought out to tables. Eventually walked out due to terrible service. Been here several times and never an issue before this. Completely disappointed and will not be back anytime soon. read more

I would like to say that this place was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Everything from the grounds, to the details inside. I was so impressed by everything that I forgot to take pictures. I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked the food. I had a quick snack before my flight but the flavors and textures were in perfect harmony. The cheese steak egg rolls -5***** It was an interesting concept, executed flawlessly The bison burger-5***** Cooked to perfection and that's saying a lot I enjoyed the milk shake but I asked for no whip cream and the server forgot, but I don't like to send food back so I drank the shake. Midway through the meal the server was extremely genuine and apologetic about forgetting the no whip, that the server offered to make another but it was unnecessary. The gesture and genuine attitude was enough to keep the 5 stars in the review. Service-5***** Food quality-5***** Ambience-5***** I came for the food, and it surpassed all expectations. Really want to like this place. It's local and has great potential as far as good staff and ambience. Repeated visits only reinforces the mediocre and poorly thought menu. My initial visit burger was very good, the following burger on a future visit was nowhere as good. The fish & chips was extremely subpar, specially for a New England bar. Its basically couple pieces of Trader Joes frozen fish, and I'm not kidding, looks exactly like it. Place has good ambiance if in area which I am but I no longer go there for a meal. Terrible experience tonight. 3 of us went for dinner ordered 3 different things and none were even acceptable, and we're not difficult or picky people. It was the octoberfest menu. One Cobb salad, the chicken was cold and not fresh, Weinerschnitzel, veal was slimy and tough, the red cabbage had way too much vinegar. Steak frites, ordered medium rare, it came out medium rare, but it was cold. So cold that the room temp glob of butter on top of it didn't melt - at all. Salad Olives were sweet, like candy sweet. Our waitress was really nice about everything, so no complaints about the service. The food took about 35 minutes to come out, but that's the kitchen's fault. Stopped at the roadhouse for something different. Sat by the wonderful fire for a couple of house cocktails. The wings were very good, crispy and flavorful. The Cobb salad was excellent. The service was also terrific. They told us they are closing Monday and Tuesday nights due to the drop in business as corona fears take hold. Carry disinfectant wipes, wipe down table top and chair rails. Use paper towels to open doors and sink faucets but still get out and support our wonderful local businesses like the roadhouse. read more

One of our fave spots in Redding. Warm, cozy, welcoming atmosphere at any time of year -- fireplaces going in the winter, gorgeous patio open in the summer -- and with a really excellent menu from the no-longer-that-new management. While we didn't eat at every iteration of the Roadhouse through the years, we have eaten under 3 owners now, and this is definitely the most modern, compelling, interesting and just straight-up tasty menu we have seen yet. It's so nice to see a restaurant going beyond the boring New England pub fare that's so common in this part of CT, and doing it well, while still having those comfort food offerings, too! Strong recommends for the short rib sliders, the French onion soup, the chowder, the burgers, the Yard Bird chicken sandwich, and all of the more formal entrees we have tried have been hits with us and our guests. In fact, just this weekend we brought our favorite very discriminating out-of-town carnivore to the Roadhouse and he was thrilled with his beef ribs and sides! Meanwhile his vegetarian wife couldn't stop raving about the sweet potato soup and her pumpkin ravioli! We love the brunch menu, and the Oktoberfest special additions were very welcome - my husband often travels to Germany for work and found the Roadhouse's spaetzel to be even better than what he's had there! Good for kids - my picky eaters like the good food AND the fun old fashioned games to play with while they're waiting. Hurrah, a place they have no interest in screens! Love the beer options there, they're always having great drink specials and bringing in independent and local labels. And maybe best of all, the Roadhouse team is deeply committed to this town! The food was inedible, we were actually scared we may get sick from what we tried. I know they've switched owners. Used to be so good back in the day. First time here last Saturday. Table of 6 total. Nachos were a good appetizer. There was one wine drinker and the waiter kept getting it wrong. Food took almost an hour to come out. Mine and my sons burger that we ordered med rare both were practically raw. My son are just the edges of his. My sister had the fish tacos and they were okay Our waiter had zero personality and the wait for food was too long. Will give it another try and hope it's better. read more

We came here years ago and had awesome meals. Lately the food hasn't been to our liking. The cheesesteak egg rolls were awfully oily. The wings have the soft mushy skin. The shrimp and grits were subpar for us as they were "spiced up" somehow rather than letting grits bWe love the ambiance and the service is good. We would definitely come again for drinks but why frequent a restaurant if you don't like the food? We'll probably try again after some time has gone by to see if the food has improved. UPDATE ... Came back for a happy hour. The service is still great. We made a point to ask for the wings to be a little crispier. They accommodated and they were very good. Please hear me - I love so many things about Redding Roadhouse - the owners have worked hard to establish a good reputation - from the creative outdoor dining experience to the various speciality menus that reflect certain holidays. Today, I am giving them 2 stars for the disappointing takeout service we experienced this January. We ordered burgers, fries, wings. Fries and wings were burnt - fries so hard, we just tossed them. One burger we ordered left out the advertised items, the others had bits and pieces of tomato and lettuce like an afterthought. This was our one take out this month. Most of the food got tossed. When I PM'd the owner, I got no reply. Just be careful to double check your take outs before paying and leaving. read more

The food was so wonderful - especially Asian chicken salad, sweet potato fries and the Yard Bird sandwich. Our server Peter was so kind and sweet with the children - making sure their order was correct and even bringing them to the candy "general store" in the back for gummy bears. Just hosted a 40-50 person event (surprise 50th birthday party for my husband). I am detail oriented and picky when I am the host of anything. I was extra nervous particularly because I had actually never been to / or eaten at this restaurant prior to the party (fairly new to the area). I chose it based upon the charm and aesthetic, and the space it allowed for especially during covid times. It was everything I had hoped for. It was beautiful, the food was excellent, and every service person and staff was friendly, competent, and accommodating. Kerem (manager) was easy to deal with, responsive, and very flexible meeting all of our needs and requests. I have nothing derogatory to say about our experience, only all positive!!! We stopped here on an early Friday evening in September. The bar was busy and loud, so we opted for the dining room. We got a nice table next to the fireplace. At 5:15PM, there were a couple of families with kids finishing up. By the time we left, it was half full with couples. I had the Sauerbraten, which is a special they have put on the menu for Octoberfest. The beef was melt in your mouth tender and tasty. The included red cabbage was house-made and mild, and the spaetzle (sp?) was heavenly. We were in a hurry, and they obliged with quick service. My partner had a Ranchouse burger with cheese, which was done perfectly. All in all, this one's worth a return visit. read more

The atmosphere is great, and as far as I could tell it looks the same as it used to before opening under new ownership. My meal was average, my date said he liked his burger and his fries were delicious. I had the portobello appetizer with mozzarella and tomatoes and brussel sprouts. Both lacked flavor.l and the portobello skewers were small, though our very nice waiter warmed me about that. But worst of all is I had 3 drinks, one was a double, and I still felt almost sober - usually I can feel it after one drink. Total lightweight!! Def need to work on the drinks. read more

Was anxiously awaiting the reopening and I was not disappointed! THE COMPANY I KEPT: a very handsome man who I was on my 4th or 5th date with. THE SETTING:at the bar, which was full and lively and where the friendly customers gave their seats readily when they were ready to go. THE SERVICE: the bartender was attentive and friendly. THE DRINKS: I had a gin and tonic, was great. My date had a few glasses of very nice red wine (Cabernet). THE FOOD: delicious! I had the mussels, my date had the Irish sandwich. Very disappointing. Was there years ago and enjoyed it. We were in the area and decided to go. Not worth the money and the service was terrible. The food had potential but very limited menu and no much of a choice. I ordered a salad ($16) and added grilled chicken (addl $6) total $22 it was the size of a side salad. I complained about the size of the salad and said I was disappointed- the waiter just said "that's the salad". No manager nothing . We were going to order a soup and they ran out - it was 5:30. Oh Redding Roadhouse.. ever since I moved to the area I kept hearing people talk about this place and how they used to go there all the time. As it's fairly close to where I live I really wanted it to be a gem of a spot with great food and a fun atmosphere. The atmosphere is a fun one and the back patio is a nice spot to hang out but the food is a constant miss. I've tried quite a few of the dishes and have always been disappointed. Out of the 6 times I've been 4 of them were unenjoyable and had us saying we wouldn't be back. The other two times we had wings and beer and were quite happy so I think that's the secret for this place. If you want wings and beer this is a good spot but if you are going for dinner perhaps think twice. Also, not offering wine by the glass is super limiting and forces people to either buy more wine then they want or go without. Unfortunately the wine they offer (so I've been told by my guests) is not very good and being forced to buy more than just a glass is off-putting. Not sure what changed here since the days people talk off when it was such a great spot but perhaps they'll figure it out and get back to what drew people there originally. read more

OMG! Please go somewhere else's. I waited an hour and 1/2 for dinner. Finally got it - and it was beyond cold. Then they served us the same food again but it looked like coal you would put in Santa's stocking. I asked for veggies instead of French fries. They don't serve veggies....are you kidding me. Also, they serve warm water. We have now been here 1 hour and 145 minutes and my husband still hasn't been delivered any food. I never went to eat at a resteraunt and went home hungry. I need to go home and eat - $100.00 Later. On a good note the wine was good, the waitress was nice but all and all unless you want a burger and fries. Go eat elsewhere. I wouldn't give 1 star but you have no option or you can't review. Go to the barn door in ridgefield. It is wonderful and less the. 10 Minutes away. read more

I've given them 3 chances and each time I have eaten at the Roadhouse since new ownership took over a few years ago, I have said I would never go back. But I'd did again tonight, based on recommendations from my sister and a friend who said that their food had gotten better. This was the Worst meal I have had in as long as I can remember. We are in the midst of a food renaissance with people everywhere experimenting, bringing in the best ingredients, fresh food, fresh ideas. And then there's the Redding Roadhouse with its unimaginative menu of burgers and wings. Since they were celebrating Octoberfest, I thought we would be safe with one of the specials for the month - a grilled assortment of sausages. Bland would be a kind description of the sausages - they were more like something that had been sitting in a school cafeteria steam table for hours. And the wine. No wine by the glass. Only half and full bottles and for those of us who just want one nice glass of wine with dinner, the selection of half bottles of wine was poor. I would so very much like to support a local establishment but I cannot recommend the Roadhouse. And I was in the food business in California in their early days of Chez Panisse, so I know my stuff. The only reason I gave one star was for the great service offered by our waiter. read more

We were recommended here for thanksgiving dinner from hub and spoke. The menu was enticing, upon arrival they had ran out of the second course item. The waitress was worn out and sick of helping people, I will give her a pass because it's thanksgiving, but the sides to the other courses were missing items as well. Everyone got broccoli rabb which is a bitter pairing. The fried sage was actually spinach, and they only had a limited beer selection upstairs. The waitress had no clue what the beers were and there was no beer or wine list. Kind of weird for a place boasting a wide craft beer selection. The tvs were playing entertainment tonight on mute with no subtitles which really killed the environment and was almost as distracting as the bus boys slamming plates while we tried to have conversation. We've been coming here since they reopened and it just sucks every time; Although, this last time we went there for dinner, they made us wait for LITERALLY an hour and half for salmon (which I asked w no orange glaze sauce) and a pork chop!! The manager came by with horrible attitude three times, yelling at us because she said they were stressed due to a private event, and assured us that our food was on its way which clearly was not true! Great service, although seating us past 11:00 (opening time) and telling us to wait until they were 'ready' to approach the buffet was a bit off putting. Fresh seafood and cheese offering, great brisket and nice salad, but for me it ended there. Chicken marsala and all desserts I tried with the exception of the carrot cake were completely void of flavor and seasoning. It was really weird and unfortunate as it left half of the buffet inedible. I am willing to give it one more try due to all of the glowing reviews here...maybe it was an off day. read more

Sat by the fire! Waitstaff was excellent! Shrimp and scallop jezebel had an old bay spice with a Thai spicy sauce to die for. The bone in rib eye was cooked perfect! Vegetable of the day was brussels sprouts with pancetta need I say more lol. My boyfriend ordered pork chop with a port wine Demi-glaze which he says is one of the best he has ever had! We came here last night with a party of 6 to sit in the bar area for dinner/drinks. Upon arrival, there was a nice big table in the bar that was perfect so we snagged that and ordered drinks/food. The service was okay at first, a bit slow but progressively got slower over the course of the evening. The food was okay, we got the appetizer of the buffalo cauliflower which was good, however my friend ordered the rancher black bean burger which had absolutely no flavor what so ever. The rest of our meals were adequate, nothing really great. Around 9 PM (we had been there for an hour and fifteen minutes or so) the band came in to start setting up. They were very clearly going to be setting up in the corner where we were sitting, so it was clear that we probably needed to get the check because our table was going to have to be moved. Our waitress was nowhere to be found, and a different woman came over to say if we were staying she should move our table or we could get the check. We made it clear that we were gonna leave and wanted the check, however it took another 15 minutes before we could flag down our waitress to do so. At this point, we were basically being set up on top of and it was very uncomfortable, all of us just wanted to leave. I asked the waitress if we could split the check anyway, and she rudely said no, that there was no way which I find hard to believe. That said, it took another 5/10 minutes to get the check back to sign and at this point we had to get up and they started to move the chairs and table out of the room. Overall, while the atmosphere of the restaurant/bar is great, the service was absolutely awful and I'm in disbelief that we were made to feel so uncomfortable. This latest reincarnation felt good at first despite the VERY limited menu but after five visits and having tried the only main courses on the menu, we're not going back. I think it works better as a bar because the food is unacceptable. The salmon was raw in the middle. I love sushi but not in the center of cooked salmon. My husband's French Dip sandwich --- the waitress looked at it, said that is not good and scurried away with it. The fish and chips have a very heavy breaded coating that stands away from the fish burying any flavor. It must be frozen. And the chips -- sometimes good, sometimes soggy from having been made 8 hours ago. Even the 'chilled' white wine was warm. I really wanted to like this restaurant. We've been going to the Roadhouse for many years across several iterations, but unfortunately this newest version is a complete disappointment. I expected a full dinner menu, but what they offer is only pub food - burgers, salads, sandwiches and some soups/appetizers. And it is one of the most boring, unimaginative pub menus I've ever come across. There are only five entrees offered, none of which are very appealing. I ordered the roast chicken, which was ok, but a bit dry and on the small side. The fries came out cold and had clearly been sitting around for awhile (though they did replace them for me). My wife had the Asian chicken salad, which she remarked was like something you'd get at a Ruby Tuesday's. Cocktails were a short pour, weak, and poorly made for $12 (who shakes a Manhattan)? I really hope they make some changes and get their act together, or I don't see how this place survives. There are much better pubs nearby if that is the type of food you are looking for. read more

This review is for the reopening under new ownership. TL;DR - A relaunch of what was there, only with higher prices, lower quality, a smaller menu, nearly the same interior, with clunky service. Full Review: Arrival: Upon arriving I was hoping to see that with the months of the business being closed that they would take advantage of giving the place a facelift, specifically the parking lot. It has always been terrible, unpaved, pot holes everywhere, and icy when wet / snowing in the winter. To my disappointment the lot has not changed at all, it is still the terrible parking lot, with pot holes in the dirt everywhere, icy when wet in the cold / snowing and is asking for someone to slip and fall when getting hurt. They also got rid of the outside tent they had setup for covered outdoor seating. Since I went there in the winter, while it was snowing it is hard to tell what if anything they plan to do with it but there was nothing outside other than the existing patio. Entering the Redding Roadhouse: Entering the Redding Roadhouse is the same familiar awkward entrance where you have to go through an off set double doors making it impossible to share the entrance / exit with people trying to get in or out. Either they wait or you wait and need to clear the way to get in our out. It has always been somewhat of a problem as the bar crowd spills out into the entrance area and people are always coming in and out to smoke plus the normal traffic of people coming and going from the restaurant. Again with the downtime you would think this would have been addressed but it wasn't. Once you get inside you stand blocking the doors, the bathroom, the entry and exit areas to the dining room and bar until the hostess can seat you. Our hostess was polite and prompt but didn't quite greet us how you would expect someone to greet you coming to spend money at their establishment, nor did she say anything when she left the table just put the menu down and walked away. I personally feel that you would be very welcoming to someone who is coming to spend money and make them feel very welcomed. Interior: The interior is nearly identical to the old restaurant, they put in some new tables, refinished a few things, an odd new wallpaper with bugs on it, and took lamp shades off the lamps and put in antique looking bulbs alone. It just feels all over the place of what they were trying to attempt to do. Again with all the downtime I would have expected more. Service: The service was overall poor, slow, clunky and felt uncoordinated. There seemed to only be 2 servers covering the dining room but nearly a half dozen bus boys standing around not really knowing what to do. The bus boys came to our table with silverware (which I think should be placed before you get there) and were reaching over everyone to lay them on the table instead of walking around the table. They brought a bottle of water that was room temp and no ice in the glass for cold water. We did say thank you several times but they would just ignore us and were rude. Several times our table would get cluttered with plates and empty drink glasses that needed to be removed but they would just look over walk by and keep going. They clearly were not trained properly and really didn't have a desire to work. You can also tell our server was having a hard time keeping up not to mention she had to keep directing the bus boys to go to tables and clean up. There was no management in the restaurant directing people what to do, it was quite clear of that and unfortunate. It was slow to get a drink order put in and it took over 15-20 minutes to get our drinks from the bar. The food was just as slow, it took over 30 minutes to put in a food order, another 20+ minutes to get appetizers, though our dinner did come out timely after the appetizers. We were going to order desserts but because everything took so long we ran out of time and needed to leave to see a show, which again was disappointing since we gave 2 hours for dinner for 4 people. The food: We had gotten the wings and Philly cheesesteak rolls as appetizers, both of which were quite tasty, though I must say the size, quantity and presentation of the rolls could be much better for the money. For dinner 3 of us ordered the flank steak and one person ordered the fish. All of our steaks were over cooked (ordered medium rare, got medium well) and our dishes were warm but not hot. You can tell they were sitting under the warmers because even our salad on the plate was warm. It was suppose to come with chimichurri sauce but none of ours came with it and the fish was cooked well but more breading than fish. Leaving: When leaving we passed a few employees walking and all of them expected us to move to the side in halls instead of waiting for the customers to come through.
